    Chrysanthemum Salad
    Emily L.

Don Angie gets a lot of love and I wanted to love it too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The West Village room is lovely, the service is warm, and the concept is genuinely fun: nostalgic Italian-American with a creative twist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But after all the hype, the Michelin buzz, and the impossible reservation, I left feeling like something was missing. The chrysanthemum salad is the real deal. Buried under a mountain of parmesan with a punchy dressing, it is bright and textural and honestly the best thing we ordered. Get it without question. The crudo was also a highlight: fresh, delicate, well-balanced. My only complaint is that it was gone in about four bites. The garlic flatbread, which is supposed to be a crowd-pleaser, came out genuinely soggy in the middle. Not in a good way. The edges delivered but the center just didn't hold up. And then there's the lasagna, the dish everyone tells you to order. The pinwheel presentation is adorable and I get why it photographs so well. But ours was sausage-forward to a fault, light on cheese, and swimming in a sauce that just didn't have much to say. For the restaurant's signature dish, it felt like a letdown. Don Angie is perfectly good. It is not a bad meal. But for the effort it takes to get a table, I expected more than a few memorable moments scattered across an otherwise forgettable spread.

There are few things that are sacrilegious in Italian households like eating lasagna that didn't come from your own or a family member's kitchen and eating meatballs that you or a family member didn't hand roll themselves. This is the first time in my 36 years of life that I had meatballs and lasagna at a restaurant. Both were excellent. For appetizers we ordered: - Pinwheel lasagna - we felt that we had to try this and we are so glad that we did. It was gooey and delicious. The Robiolina cheese was a wonderful in this dish. The super thin pasta was tender. - Chrysanthemum salad - How have I never known that chrysanthemum salad could be so delicious? Someone else described the dressed as "bright" and I cannot think of a better way to describe the fresh taste. - Stuffed garlic flatbread - Reminiscent of artichoke dip baked in bread; good, but our least favorite item. - BBQ calamari - tender and flavorful For our main courses: - Sorpresine & Smoked Mussels - So much flavor on this "surprise" pasta. The combination of flavors was slightly unexpected, but everything worked beautifully together. The mussels were tender and added the perfect amount of smokiness to this dish. - Garganelli Giganti - The sauce and meatballs were perfection. I am very picky with sauce and this was really tasty. - Chicken Scarpariello - Veal "da Pepi" - This was the star (for me at least). I didn't know what to expect with speck, horseraddish, and banana peppers, but WOW. The veal cutlet was thin and tender. The breading was extremely crisp. Veal is very easy to dry out especially when this thin. - side of Charred Broccolini We all were able to share all of our items amongst the four of us which made it a great way to try so many different items on the menu. I also had a "Two Yoots" to drink. I was initially tickled by the My Cousin Vinny reference, but then felt I needed to try prosciutto washed rum. The rum mixed with min and cantaloupe very just as refreshing as I had hoped it to be. I wanted to try Nonna's nip, but I wanted to make sure I had enough room for all the food. My husband, parents, and I came in for lunch on a Sunday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This restaurant is tiny and it was packed, but service was excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't love the Open Table reservation situation, but that is about the only negative thing I have to say about our experience with Don Angie. San Sabino (their sister restaurant) is up next on our list!

Don Angie is worth every effort it takes to get a reservation. The lasagna is an absolute must -- one of the best things I've eaten in the city. The cocktails are seriously underrated and deserve just as much attention as the food. Staff was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere is vibey in a way that makes you want to linger.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Difficult to get into, easy to fall in love with.

What an amazing culinary experience!!! Everything our table had was delicious. Highlights: the chrysanthemum salad is amazing. Hands down the best caesar interrpretation I've ever had. Veal Da Pepi shined with the horseradish and speck. Unexpected delight- Buffalo Milk Caramelle. Sweet and savory all at once. Our table of course ordered their signature, Lasagna for two which was very good. And yes, we tried all three desserts on the menu. Table favorite= Fior Di Latte Mochi. I can see why it's so hard to secure a reservation here. I hope I get to come again!!! PS- we are still talking about that salad BTW. Perfection.

Yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype. My goodness was the food fantastic here. Yes it's a bit difficult to get a reservation, I have to make sure you are quick with the mouse, but totally worth it. I was able to snag a reservation for a Monday night, probably the way to go if you're not having luck getting one. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was of course still packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But the service was top-notch as expected. Food, dessert and drinks lived up to the hype. I would absolutely come back here again, one of the few restaurants I've been to that actually was worth all the commotion I have heard about it.

This meal was kind of unreal. We ended up paying about $63 per person, which felt more than fair for the quality of the food we tasted and the variety of dishes we were able to try. Their site says to set an alarm at 9am 7 days before you want to go, but luckily a snowstorm took care of any reservation concerns for us. First of all, one of the most hyped up items on the menu: the chrysanthemum salad. I really did not know what to expect and what chrysanthemum tastes like, but WOW did it live up to the high praise. The boatload of parmesan nearly covered the green entirely, but the garlic added some intrigue and crunch which really made it unique. It was probably the best salad I've ever had in my life. The stuffed garlic flatbread was also phenomenal - sooo cheesy but had just a bit of crisp. Warm, gooey, and savory. For mains, we split the garganelli giganti and the lasagna, and both were amazing - rich, saucy, and intensely flavorful. Definitely the move to share. They also bring bread, which we dipped into all the sauces left over from the mains - the texture and flavor combination was absolutely delectable. Finally, the star of the show (in my eyes - my friend had a different star, the lasagna) was the Japanese sweet potatoes. I've never tasted sweet potatoes like that before, but the combination of the sweet and the crunch of the skin was actually life changing, I had 3 potatoes and each one was memorable, I wanted to chew slower so that it could last longer... The broccolini was flavorful, but felt dim compared to the light of the other dishes. And the tiramisu was super unique - rich and creamy with a crispy feuilletine texture that made it stand out. Also slightly chaotic because it fully stained our napkins black, but worth it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beyond the food, the ambience is classy without feeling overbearing, and our waiter was incredibly nice, which made the whole experience even better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, one of those meals where every dish hits. So fun to share with a group and try a bit of everything.

Lives up to the hype! Might be my favorite Italian restaurant in New York City Must Try: - our Lasagna - Buffalo Milk Caramelle - Chysanthemum Salad Tried the Stuffed garlic flatbread but nothing too extraordinary. I could pass on this next time

I would fly to New York just to eat here. I am Italian and this was the best lasagna I've ever tasted. The noodles were so soft and the pasta tasted so light. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is so enchanting with a small lovely space feeling so intimate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food also came out so fast and was so hot and every single dish was so flavorful. This was a highlight dinner on my New York trip.

    Whole Roasted Lobster

Making reservations at Don Angie is challenging in that you have to be hovering over your keyboard when reservations open up. Once the nail biting reservation process is complete, it's deciding what you want and enjoying the wonderful food. Here's what we had: Scallop Crudo Chrysanthemum Salad Buffalo Milk Caramelle Garganelli Giganti - Broken Meatball Ragu, Guanciale, Pecorino Our Lasagne Whole Roasted Lobster (includes extra dishes) Japanese Sweet Potatoes Caramelized Pear Sorbetto and Black Cocoa Tiramisu Capuccino Very Dirty Martini While our party of 4 enjoyed all the dishes, we would be hesitant to order the whole roasted lobster again as it was just a whole roasted lobster with not much meat. With that said, the lobster did come with extra dishes that were special so I guess that is something to consider. All in all, a very special meal with the Black Cocoa Tiramisu for the Birthday Boy!

Our favorite dinner in NYC! Everything was so good and everyone was patient with us! We weren't able to get reservations but got on the waitlist! Can't wait to go back

This was one of my favorite meals during our visit to New York. Every dish was a hit. You absolutely have to order their famous pinwheel lasagna and the chrysanthemum salad. The pinwheel shape of the lasagna gives each bite that satisfying crispy edge. The fresh chrysanthemum leaves are topped with a mountain of parm, and the bright dressing just ties the whole dish together. The buffalo milk caramelle is a playful and memorable dish. Each candy-shaped pasta is coated with a sweet brown butter sauce and candied kumquats. I watched several videos on YouTube of their kitchen operations, and it is so impressive how they create each unique pattern on the pasta by hand. They were unfortunately sold out of the lobster by 7 pm, so we didn't get to try it. I would recommend booking an earlier dinner time to ensure that you get to order it if the lobster is a must. Other dishes were still phenomenal, including the Japanese sweet potatoes and the steak al limone, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Their take on a tiramisu was a delightful end to our meal. It had just the right amount of sweetness, and the crunchy wafer layers added a nice crispy texture. Reservations definitely require some planning since they open up seven days in advance. My husband and I set an alarm to log onto OpenTable. As soon as the clock struck 9 am EST, we clicked the slot we wanted. If you're quick, your slot will be held for about 10 minutes on OpenTable while you complete booking. When we refreshed the page, the reservations were gone within a matter of seconds/minutes. I think they do accept walk-ins, but expect to line up early or wait quite a while. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant space is warmly lit by candlelight at dinner, creating an intimate, cozy ambiance. Perfect for a date night or a special occasion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was stellar. As an avid cookbook collector, I was excited that I could purchase their cookbook, signed by chef Angie and chef Scott, at the restaurant. Best souvenir on this trip! I am excited to try recreating their recipes at home. I will definitely make it a priority to return to Don Angie and to check out their sister restaurant, San Sabino, the next time we are in Manhattan.

A true NYC icon. My friend scored a reservation and I was excited to see if it was worth the hype. It 10000% was worth it. What we tried- Stuffed Garlic Flatbread: What's not to love? Cheese, garlic, carb. Yummy and easy to share House Salami & Cheese: A nice appetizer to start. Loved the sweet honey with the savory pizzelles/salami Chrysanthemum Salad: Caesar-reminiscent. Pile o' parm on top. Good and I liked how dressed it was BBQ Calamari: This one surprised me. My table really wanted this even tho I wanted to skip it. Great smoky flavor, delicious! Our Lasagna For Two: The star herself. Wanted to write this off as overhype but it is truly delicious! Balanced, delicious sauce, not too heavy. Charred Broccolini: Okay but a bit too bitter for me Peach Sorbetto: Just okay Black Cocoa Tiramisu: Love their take on this! I wish I could've tasted more of the Marsala caramel but the crispy feuilletine was such a nice crunchy aspect! The mascarpone cream was incredible Restaurant is cozy, great for a date night or a group dinner. Good vibes. Service was good, we had a vegan in our party and they were accommodating. Can't wait to go back and also want to try their sister restaurant San Sabino as well!

I wish I can give it a 4.5 stars! Don Angie is such a classic New York Italian spot, and even though I heard it lost its Michelin star, the food quality is still incredibly high. Everything my friend and I ordered tasted thoughtful, well-seasoned, and beautifully executed. We shared the Little Gem Salad, the garlic bread, the famous lasagna, and tiramisu -- and the total came out to around $80-90 for two people. It's definitely on the pricier side, but the flavors and portion sizes make it feel worth it for a special meal. We ended up sitting outside in December (only in New York!), and honestly it worked out perfectly because there was no wait. The heaters kept it comfortable, and it felt like a fun winter dining experience without the usual indoor crowd. The lasagna, of course, is a classic for a reason -- rich, layered, and beautifully presented. But surprisingly, my favorite dish of the night was the Little Gem Salad. I don't usually rave about salad, but this one is exceptional: crisp, refreshing, and seasoned so perfectly that I genuinely couldn't stop eating it. I'm already thinking about going back just for that. Overall, Don Angie remains a solid, reliable, and delicious Italian restaurant that still feels special. Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a memorable dinner in the city.

Is the lunch menu different than their dinner menu?

Yes. No buffalo milk caramelle or the lobster. Otherwise it's the same

    Do you have vegetarian options?

    Yes!

    Is there a dress code?

    it's casual .

Is the lunch menu the same as the dinner menu? Is the two person lasagna offered during lunch time?

Hi Kayla! Thanks for reaching out! The lunch menu is almost the same! We definitely serve the lasagna, however the lobster and pork are not served during lunch. We hope to see you soon!

Is the buffalo milk caramelle pasta still on the regular/special menu?

It was when I went last week but it's not a regular item.

Is there any way to get a reservation? I've tried SO many times, at 9 on the dot, and it's not happening. Reservations are "for sale" on AppointmentTrader, which is really disheartening.

Best thing to do is to go in person between 3:30-4:30pm and put your name on the waitlist, sure fire way to get a table!

    Are children allowed?

    Yes

How can i reservation?? There is no seat any days. I dont understand

Is there any way to get the lasagna with no pork in the sauce?

Do you have a vegetarian option for pasta or can the pasta dishes be done without meat? (One guest is vegetarian, the rest are not). Thank you

    What are you vegan options?

    Do you offer takeout?

I'm looking to dine at Don Angie 3/25. What's the best way to snag a ressy?

Do you have gluten free pasta? Any other gluten free options?

AT this location I did not see any, and they did not mention it. I would call first to ask. That would be the best opportunity.

Hi! Are your outdoor booths heated for the winter?

Yes, and they have heavy-duty curtains to close you in!

What meats are in the lasagna?

Hi there! We use a classic meat sauce of veal, beef and sweet italian sausage (Pork)!…

All I want for my birthday on 3/21 is to eat here but they're fully booked. Is there any hope of a walk in?

If you go right when they open, start at the bar, you may get a seat around 5:30pm or set something up. When we were there, a couple walked in right ahead of us. No reservation. They were offered a table at 10:30pm, an hour after our reservation. So…

Do you have any vegan menu options?

Hi Gretchen! We have a few vegan options, including a house made pasta!…

When do new reservation time slot become available?

The highlight was the complimentary sorbet they brought out for my friend's birthday. The vibes were classic Hogsalt with dim lighting, old-school jazz, and a cozy atmosphere (7/10).

The open, elegant dining room overlooking the sculpture garden created a peaceful atmosphere that made the entire experience feel special. What impressed me most was the exceptional service. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling overly formal. Every detail was handled with care, making the meal feel seamless from beginning to end. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an unforgettable dining experience in New York, The Modern is absolutely worth a visit.

They have to let you in. I didn't have a reservation, but was seated immediately. Win! I really should've asked questions instead of going rogue. My intention was to do the lunch prix fixe menu. The menu on the table was a la carte. This did however work out better for me as I had limited time since I was catching a broadway show. Started with the olives then followed with the hot dogs and closed with the gem lettuce. They did come at different times. This gave me the perfect time to nibble slowly. The olives paired perfectly with the salad. The hot dogs were my favorite. The whole meal was perfectly balanced for me. Just have to mention how amazing the service was. No table had anything waiting to be taken away because there was always someone walking around. At one point, one of the guys clocked I had just finished drinking my water and within seconds he was at my table refilling my glass. I mean c'mon. Will took great care of me. He even suggested the dessert I ended up getting which was the peach cruller. I'm gonna try to come back to do the lunch tasting before I go back home to LA.

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
