Amazing. Tried it on a whim. It's a bodega with a restaurant in the back. Very authentic and fresh. I had the tamales and the portion was generous. My daughter always gets beans and insists they were the best ever. The churros were also delightful. read more

My favorite to get here is definitely carnitas tacos but they always add so much meat and filling in my carne asada torta as well. I'm so glad I ventured in to try this place! I've already been back twice now lol. I ordered their green enchiladas (chicken). There is a generous portion of shredded chicken-nicely seasoned and moist-you get three of them. All the flavors combine nicely. Rice and beans are good as well. My guy likes their pollo asada-he said it tastes fresh and clean-had that nice flamed taste. Have also tried their carne asada tacos-meat is tender and flavorful. I can't wait to try some of their other menu items! It seemed like a lot of the patrons ordered their soups-I'll have to check it out! Staff/I'm assuming owners have always been friendly. read more

Stopped by the Dept of Licensing and the smell of something delicious turned my head. Just down from the DoL is this Mexican market with a restaurant tucked in the rear of the market. It's not fancy, but it's a good space with plenty of tables. Curiosity was piqued and I decided to try a couple of their carne beef tacos. They were grilling it in the kitchen and I looked at their expansive menu to see quite a range of different items. It didn't take long before the tacos came out and there was even a side of grilled onions and grilled jalapeno on my plate. They grilled the beef as well and that made everything taste so much better than most other Mexican restaurants. I added the salsa verde and the tacos were gone too soon. I was convinced this was a hidden gem for Mexican cuisine! Now I was ready to really eat. Ordered up a carne beef burrito and my wife got their birria beef soup. Wow!! Good sized portions and to top it off, it was incredibly delicious! My wife was astounded for how much better everything tasted compared with Aceitunos. Price is about what you would find at other places for tacos, burritos, and other traditional Mexican food. The difference is in the taste! People working here are friendly and took care of us. When we want high-end Mexican food and steaks, we'll go to the nearby Asadero Sinaloa. For traditional Mexican food with a wide selection, the restaurant inside of Don Chanos Tienda is now our new local go-to place. Give them a try and be pleasantly surprised! read more

Good, authentic mexican restaurants are hard to come by around here. A friend that lives nearby recommended it and boy am I happy to have tried it out. I'm from Southern California and I've come to realize that I was spoiled with good mexican food. I has pretty much been hard to find a restaurant that meets my expectations taste-wise. This place is now my #1 mexican food spot in the area. It's inside a small grocery store and to the back. It's a Sunday afternoon and it's busy. I had a menudo that included two tortillas and all the menudo fixings to the side (dry chile, oregano,onion, cilantro, lemon). The menudo on it's own was amazing but I like my food really spicy so I added their red salsa to it and BOMB, period. The plate is big, enough to feed 2 ppl in my opinion. My boyfriend helped me finish it. I took a pic of it just before I let him devour the rest of it. My friends had carne asada burritos and tamales. I also tried their food and it was good! We can't wait to come back to try the birria. read more

Ate here once a week while working a 6 month stint in Kent. The soups are hearty and home made, the pupusas are generous and cheap, the curtido delicious, and the Tienda offers many veggie options. Lots of drink options, including cerveza. Very convenient to have the restaurant located in a grocery store. read more
