We enjoy CFG- been going to this restaurant since 2022 when I first became aware of it in LA County area. Glad to have a location in Simi Valley! The food is okay- I wouldn't say it's out of this world amazing, but it's okay, and although sometimes tastes very salty, it's usually a good deal for the fish (in terms of the price and the amount you get). I appreciate the coupons they sometimes run in the app and also the sauces- it's nice to be able to get good sauces with your food. Couple things would be- the lobster nachos were completely not worth their whopping $28 plus tax price tag. I was looking forward to eating them so much just to try them and be extremely disappointed.. the chips were burnt and the flavor was severely lacking. For such a high price tag, I was let down. Another thing to mention is that this location made our online order incorrectly recently- we ordered one thing and they made another item, totally different. We complained and were told by management that a gift card would be mailed to us, but we never received it ? I believe my husband did ask management about this but we never received another response. So based on these things, I'd say CFG is a backup option for us, not the first thing we think of, but it is good to have them around. Downloaded their app and got my dinner for the cost of just a drink. That and the Cajun shrimp in the bowl were great. Will be back soonish to try a full shrimp plate again. Also the house made cocktail sauce was excellent. The white rice, beans, white fish, chicken, and smoked salmon were OK. The tartar sauce was absolutely terrible and will mean I won't be buying anything fried there. It tasted just like plain mayo. Lastly, their fountain selection was just bleh. Make some real lemonade or at least iced tea. read more

You really can't go wrong with California Fish Grill! I found out they were officially opening today (1/15/26) and since I happened to be in the area with my parents, we decided to stop by for lunch. We ordered: Salmon & Swai Combo with Teriyaki Sauce Branzino (Sea Bass) with Teriyaki Sauce Shrimp Skewers Atlantic Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce We also shared a great variety of sides: Rice Kaleslaw Sweet Potato fries Seasoned Tomato & Feta Balsamic Glazed Brussels Sprouts. Despite being pretty busy, ordering was quick and easy. The only downsides were that the salmon was a little too peppery for my mother's taste and the seating situation inside could definitely be improved; hopefully something they can work out over time. Parking was a breeze since it's located in an outdoor shopping center with a large lot. While I may not return to this location just because of location, I will keep going to the ones closer to me. I thought i left a review from opening night and i didn't! It was 5 stars then and it's 5 stars now!! Last time i got the grilled fish plate with rice and kale slaw. Service was top notch. This time was no different. I had the new Mediterranean salad with shrimp. It had feta, olives, croutons and a really good lime vinaigrette with a cream sauce. I hope they keep it. It was super fresh and filling. My spouse got the everything protein bowl and said it was excellent! Don't sleep on this place. Y'all wanted healthy options in Simi so support it. After a negative first experience, we were contacted by management and were offered a gift card. We tried again today, and didn't get the order, I placed. I ordered the Calamari and battered fish and ended up with calamari and fried shrimp! Everything tasted greasy. Ordered a side of flour tortillas and the top tortilla had green on it....maybe avacado? We were fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to attend the soft opening of California Fish Grill. While the line was out the door and the dining room was at capacity the line moved along quickly. We ordered a variety of dishes from the combination plate, bowl, to salad along with a side of Brussels sprouts. The ordering process was straightforward with a good user experience. I think the dining room layout was nice and clean. The food was made relatively quickly. Out of all of the dishes I would say the Brussels sprouts were a bit. My Braviano was good but lacked a little flavor. The shrimp salad was okay but felt a little lite. The bowl was hearty and filling while the salmon plate was also very good. All in all, they did a fantastic job considering how many people were in line. I think once they get dialed in they will be great! read more

Unfortunately, for as much i was rooting for this place, it just didnt cut it.... Here's why: 1. Portions are very measured. Fish portions specifically (filets are thin). I've been to quite a few locations and Unfortunately they are all the same. 2. Prices are up there for what you get. Not used to this. I've been to quite a few fish grill places and I've had better (hooked fish grill in Northridge. Their portions are bigger and prices are better). Ordered the fried catfish takeout with a side of french fries and the brussels sprouts. They had the food ready very quickly very short wait. It's a good value for what you get. The piece of catfish I had was gigantic and the breading was so good nice and crisp and perfectly seasoned. Brussels sprouts were in a balsamic and they were delicious and the french fries they were OK nothing special but they do have lots of dipping sauce options and I like the garlic butter they have for dipping your fries or just putting some malt vinegar on them spruces them up. I'm so glad we have this here. I'll be visiting more often and trying some of the healthier options. read more

Worked late and didn't have anything thawed for dinner. I thought let's try this new establishment. I usually try to wait 3 months to let the restaurant work out their kinks. I ordered online and it said order would be ready in 15 minutes. I finished up and headed over there. It's in a strip center so lots of parking. I arrive and the place is packed. You order online the right side of the restaurant. The customers were 8 parties waiting to order. On the left hand side is a shelf for delivery service and online orders. I head over there and my order isn't ready. At this point I figure strap in cuz this is going to be a long wait. To my surprise I waited under 5 minutes. From the promised time to the time I had my food was 4 minutes. Drive home and unpack. First off the order is correct and all items are there. The fish and chips, everyone loved the fries, great flavor. The fish was 3 giant pieces, fried golden brown with a great crunch. The fish was seasoned perfectly and the tartar sauce was good. The dynamite shrimp bowl was spicy shrimp served over rice and cabbage. The shrimp were cooked well, not over cooked and rubbery. The rice had flavor. It was just steamed white rice. The dynamite sauce had a good amount of heat. 2 fish tacos ala carte. The fish was crispy, the cabbage was good. The lobster roll was a grilled bread with lobster meat, I thought this dish was okay but it was my so son's favorite. Overall a really solid meal and the customer service was on point. read more

I enjoy seafood but I'm starting to realize that most orders are saturated in oil. I had a very disappointing experience at Fish Grill. The fish and chips were heavily breaded and completely saturated with oil or lard, as if they had been taken straight from the fryer and placed directly onto the plate without draining. The excess grease soaked into the fries, pooled at the bottom of the plate, and even seeped into the side salad. Instead of enjoying my meal, I spent most of the time blotting oil with stacks of napkins just to make it somewhat edible. As for the lobster nachos, the meat did not taste like lobster tail. It seemed more like claw meat, with a flavor and texture closer to crab than lobster, which was unexpected and underwhelming. Overall, the quality and preparation fell short. A simple step like allowing the fried fish to properly drain before plating would make a significant difference. Otherwise, it may be worth reconsidering to remove fish and chips from the menu altogether. Based on this experience, I would not recommend ordering these platters --or at similar fish grill establishments--until improvements are made. read more

To be fair it was most likely what I ordered which I should know better. The Lobster Nachos- you could not even taste the lobster what so ever, the plate had corn kernels in it, the lobster was cut so small it was actually smaller then the corn kernels, and not very much at that!. I will try it again & order another seafood dish, fish or shrimp to be fair!. The flavor was there on the Lobster Nacho's but again, you would never know there was lobster in it. The food is delicious I've ordered the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl substituted the rice for salad, they give a good amount of shrimp, very rare these days lol. Food prices are reasonable for what you're getting. The food tastes fresh! The fish and chips are also very yum, biig pieces of fish!! I ordered their brussel sprouts and dynamite fries, it's a must. Walked in to order take out tonight. Both Kiosks were being used with an employee assisting them. I was quickly greeted by a young man at the register. He was very courteous and patient with me as it was my first time visiting the restaurant. He knew the menu well and helped me make my selections. They were a little backed up and some customers in the dining room looked impatient. They were slammed with Doordash and Grubhub orders it seemed. They were doing the best that they could. I got the order home and my husband was very pleased. We had the Cajun Chicken Tacos, Cajun fish tacos, zucchini and brown rice. The sides were a little on the small side. The line was fine; it just opened and people were figuring out the menu, so it makes sense. The food was made quick enough. I asked for a minor change of the tortilla type on my order and I feel like that pushed my order back for some reason. Not a change that should've pushed the order back to be honest. The tacos were good. I thought they would have some spice due to the icon on the menu but they weren't spicy at all. The fish itself was kinda lukewarm which was a bit on the downside for me. Would've liked it to be hotter and not something that was sitting in a tub. They were good though. 7/10. The tomato and feta salad was good, but it was a bit small. Seeing some of the other sides that were much larger, I probably won't choose this one again. They also should use other tomatoes as tomato slices just make it awkward to eat and don't look nice. 7/10 The Zucchini was bad. It was mushy and didn't taste good. I ate it first to get it out of the way since I don't like wasting food. 0/10 I got dirty silverware with my food and had to go back and ask for clean ones. Not checking the silverware when prepping the plates is a big no for me. It makes me question the cleanliness of the entire place. It's that serious because the small details matter, they show how much attention is shown. If come back to try other items, as they did look good. I'll probably just get it to go though. Overall a 5/10 for me, mainly due to the silverware and zucchini. read more

I'm going to give 3 stars because I know the food is good at other locations. We weren't able to eat at this location. The restaurant was hotter inside, than it was outside and smelled of rotten eggs. I asked the people in the front if something was wrong with the AC? And If they were aware that it smelled like rotten eggs? They kind of stared at me and just shrugged. My son said there was no way he wanted to sit inside and eat. We attempted to order our food to go through the kiosk. I had a question about a modification, and the girl kindly said to go ahead and complete my order & she would let the kitchen know of my request. The other person in the front quickly jumped in and said "no modifications!". And at that point, we decided to leave. I am a regular customer at the other locations and have nothing but great things to say about the service & quality of the food. Maybe we'll try back after they get things fixed. read more

I attended the opening ceremony and was already amazed by the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food. Gabbi, the store manager is super sweet, professional and always goes beyond to make sure everyone is happy. The food if always fresh and a much healthier option than traditional fast food. They have a great variety of fresh fish - either grilled or fried. They also serve a variety of cream soda flavors - which is a bonus IMO and a great escape from traditional soda fountains. The store is very clean (at the time of writing this review, the store just recently opened), there's both inside and outside seatings available. Overall, this is a great place for a quick meal that's clean and healthy. read more

Nope, no way. Not even opening weekend am I going to stand for avocado missing from the avocado shrimp salad. I can sort of get the two missing sides, but wow, no avocado. Also, bring cashless will make it less likely I come back. Edit: I have now dined at CFG Simi three times. All three times there has been a missing item. The most recent was two items. Nothing quite as egregious as the missing avocado but come on already. I recommend you unpack your to go orders prior to leaving to confirm everything is there. read more

We love food and service at this location. We were waiting in line and Kiosk was a mess on Sat., 02/21. and server Nephi walked out to the front and took our order right away. He was so great and made sure we got silverware, source. Source for fried shrimp is better than the other locations that I have been. While waiting it was very pleasant that place was cozy and relaxing. This is our 2nd time in a week. We will definitely come again. We tried almost everything and we like this location much more than t.o. And Northridge. We ordered lobster roll, fried shrimp, clam chowder and other fish dinner meals the other day, 5 days ago. Server Namn (I'm not sure spell of his name). Because server was fantastic, we came back. He helped us what to order and we changed our order 3 times and he was very kind about it. It was supreme.
