Menu is definitely on the bargain side. Beef was a little fatty but flavorful. Rice is great. The simple salads of iceberg lettuce, tomato and avocado slices are always fresh. The fried chili relleno with ground beef is awesome -- so good that it's kinda keeping me from exploring the rest of the menu. I had plans to eat at another place (a food truck) prior to going to the airport to catch my departing flight out of Austin but they were not there as they were catering an event. I searched Yelp to find something close by and quick and found Don Juan. Don Juan has its own parking lot and upon entry we were quickly seated. Don Juan has its own custom furniture made for the dining room that happen to be crafted in Arandas, Jalisco (a town that I have relatives in) which I found interesting. Complimentary salsa and warm chips were served. I ordered the Don Juan Burrito lunch special and was able to choose the protein. I chose al pastor. It wasn't long before food arrived at the table. The portions were very generous, a large, cheese-smothered burrito accompanied by refried beans and rice. I ate my entire meal but was not completely satisfied as the pork in my burrito was somewhat charred. I didn't say anything to wait staff because my time was limited and I needed to get food in my stomach. Overall, if I am in Austin again, I would probably choose a different restaurant to eat at if I am looking for Mexican food and trust me, there are dozens to choose from. read more

We've been returning to Don Juan's for several years. At first we stopped there because it was conveniently close to were we could meet for lunch. Now, it's a destination we choose. We were pleased as always by the food quality, quantity, staff, and price, but overwhelmingly, and why I'm reviewing, is because of the delightful investment in all new dining room furniture and a new hand crafted bar. The restaurateur had all the tables, chairs, booths, bar, and even the baby chairs hand crafted with embroidery and hand painted traditional scenes. A must visit/see. read more

The pork chop and egg meal was great! The pancakes were just pancakes nothing fancy but Mexican food and pancakes is a killer combo. I came back a few days later and go the Mexican flag enchiladas .. totally awesome. You could tell they were made fresh to order and the sauces were killer. The breakfast here is better than dinner in my opinion -FYI. We have been here a couple of times for breakfast and it's been good each time. You can get a Mexican style breakfast or just eggs and bacon and pancakes. We recently stopped in here for dinner. I ordered the chicken nachos. The chips here are not my favorite so I probably should have ordered something different. The toppings were good though. My husband got the chimichanga and he said was just ok too. I asked to add a torta but they were out. BUMMER! I got green sauce on my enchiladas, they were very good and spicy! The beef skirt was tender unlike most which is chewy if not cooked right. This place used to be La Tapatila and was pretty good. I noticed that they changed name/owners so I decided to try it for lunch. The menu had quite a variety so I took a few minutes to look it over. I ordered a water and the waitress came back with a glass of water and some chips and salsa. The water was just tap water, which wouldn't have been so bad, but they didn't have any ice. The chips were stale. From where I was sitting, I could see behind the counter and they had a big bin of chips sitting underneath a stainless steel table out in the open. Who knows how long the chips have been sitting. I ordered the combination plate and chose beef fajita and al pastor. When the food came out, they forgot the tortillas.
