Good basic TexMex. Very reasonably priced. Nice facility with a good crowd and friendly staff.

I've tried two locations now. The food is Tex Mex at its best. Everything is greasy and tastes great. I plan on returning as often as I can!

The food is exceptional, the service a 10 & the vibe CHECK passes. We've had the pleasure of meeting the owner one dinner night and he was extremely personable and joined us for dinner while discussing what brought us to the area & after learning we drove in JUST to dine there he was pleased. He ordered The Old Same Place drink (old fashioned spinoff), and I got the Broadmoor Norteño. Both were good; mine was spicier than anticipated--made me drink a lot of water with it, which is good for me lol. I got the calamari special. It was good, not the best I've had but good. I also ordered the halibut special. It was buttery and nutty and amazing and the Brussels sprouts were perfectly salty and the potato puree and carrots made me more excited for Thanksgiving coming up! Hubby ordered the dry aged salmon special, which he also thoroughly enjoyed. He will be back during lunch sometime to try the fish and chips to see if they compare to his experience in the UK. He is dubious yet hopeful. Overall, great date night place!

What a surprise to find such a romantic, exclusive and fusion Latin Cuisine experience in Tyler,…read moreTexas. Set on a hill, this beautiful property is definitely eye catching from the intersection. I call it fusion Latin cuisine because their shrimp ceviche was definitely not your typical one. Surprised with the sweet and not expected pineapple pieces, I couldn't help myself from enjoying and eating all of it. And the plate presentation of this appetizer is on point! Well done! Love the M letter drawing, the 'tartar' set up and dollop of guacamole to hold the chip deco! I believe the chips are home made. Service was wonderful! Attentive. Was recommended the blue coconut jalapeño mojito and it was also different. I would have personally liked a classic mojito better. Coconut and jalapeño didn't rock my boat, but the presentation was lovely. For the entrees we went off the card and chose from their specials menu. The Osso Buco pork shank was juicy, fall off the bone, and deliciously flavorful! Bold in flavors. The tasty saucy beans balanced the bland cilantro lime rice. It was a large portion, couldn't finish the quantity but it was well-loved. The surf and turf dish was beautifully set up. The filet mignon steak was on top of chimichurri fries, and the overcooked lobster found its way on fajita vegetables. The steak that was cut in was more of a medium and not medium rare but still tasty and finished. This place is apparently popular amongst prom goers. Quite a few prom groups with photographers were taking pictures in and around the building earlier that evening. Aside from the food, service and ambience. Villa Montez could still improve with the welcoming hostess, and by cleaning up the construction materials in the back and by the parking lot.

I ordered the surf & turf (Carne Asada + Lobster) and it came with beans, rice & mixed vegetables. The surf & turf was delicious. The Carne Asada was so tender and juicy, the lobster was yummy and the sides were so, so good. The mixed vegetables were seasoned to perfection, the rice was good and the beans were excellent. For dessert, we had chocolate cake. It was moist and the icing was so fresh and sweet. I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant.

Guacamole show was delicious and came with a variety of fresh salsas to try. Really appreciated the small, focused menu and attention to quality. My favorite bite hands down was the Gringas Al Pastor tacos. The grilled pineapple on it was just *chefs kiss*. The Biste tacos were okay. Also tried the Camaron and although the shrimp was great I think they were overshadowed by the ratio of mixed greens. Another highlight was the wonderful speed and professional service by our waiter Fordham, very impressed. Clean bathroom. Was a little less impressed when I asked to be seated not 2 feet away from a family with several fussy children and was met with a kind of a scowl and "I'll see if that can work" on an empty patio otherwise. Just wanted a peaceful atmosphere and more of a choice of where we were seated would've been nice. But overall great experience and will return.

From the moment we walked in, this place felt warm, welcoming, and real -- not trendy, not flashy, just genuinely good. The food was the star of the show. The pupusas were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft, cheesy, and flavorful on the inside, served with bright, tangy curtido that tied everything together beautifully. The rice and beans were simple in the best way -- seasoned like someone's grandma was back in the kitchen -- and the plantains were caramelized, buttery, and impossible to stop eating. You could tell everything was made with care, patience, and pride, not rushed or reheated. Portions were generous, prices were fair, and the service was friendly without hovering. If you love bold, comforting, homemade flavors, this is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be back -- and soon.
