One of the best fast casual Mexican meals I have ever had. Started out with the chips and salsa and I always ask for the spicy salsa. Their spicy salsa was on point. When I visit a Mexican restaurant, I always get a hard shell taco. I love the ability to compare a basic food item to other places. Theirs was very good - ample meat. For my main, I can't remember what it was called but it was a trio of meats - steak, chicken and shrimp - grilled, with mixed veggies. I asked for only grilled onions and they did not disappoint!! Excellent!! The server was very attentive throughout the meal then disappeared on us when we needed the check. But not bad. But the funny part, we sat there for a long while after we got the bill not realizing we were supposed to pay up front. lol. Highly recommend! read more

On a road trip to Virginia stopped off at this place. The people were really nice and welcoming, but the food just was not it. The shrimp was straight from my frozen bag and it was not tasty at all. It made my stomach hurt all night lol definitely will not come back here, but I don't have to. I also had the margaritas which tasted just straight sugar and juice. Definitely gave me lots of cramps from whatever the food had in there. It was definitely not traditional or authentic. read more

Good service and yummy food, what more could you want from a Mexican restaurant! A group of 9 were staying across the street and wanted a close place to grab dinner on a Saturday night. They took a reservation which was nice too! Service was friendly and accurate for our large group. Our server made sure everyone had water, drinks and refills. Chips and salsa were fresh and they even had the famous white sauce and it had really good flavor! Extensive menu with lots of good choices. Everyone liked their food and they were good portions. Been here a couple of times now on my trips up and down I95. Chester is a great place to stop and this Mexican restaurant is as good as they come. Quick service. Friendly staff. Delicious food. There are so many Mexican spots in this area of Chester and Don Pepe is super popular so we decided to give them a try. The menu is overwhelming but I finally ordered the salmon fajitas with lots of veggies and overall everything was good but I was disappointed with the quality of the salmon. The waiter and cook were extremely rude and made very unpleasant comments during our 45 minute visit. We ordered drinks, were not asked what size, we were brought the largest size (WHICH IS A $25 DRINK) with no explanation of price (no prices on menu). My sisters quesadilla had almost no cheese and it wasn't even melted, the child quesadilla is like a half lb of shredded chicken with no cheese. They tried putting our 2 year old in the middle of the service isle, while holding a hot sizzle tray above his head. To say I am displeased is an understatement. I went here in search for my holy grail in Richmond. Which is a decent Chile relleno. And I was disappointed again. This was definitely not the worst I've had but not the best and none have been "good". I feel it was the sauce there was something really off with it's after taste in it. My companion and I both thought so. Maybe it had been sitting in the fridge too long ? The rice and beans were nice but nothing amazing. Some of our chips were literally black but the non burnt ones were ok. The enchilada my companion said was ok but nothing amazing. I did like my Hawaiian tacos. I won't say they were amazing but they were good. The sauce really made them. Overall it feels about on par to all the other Tex mex places in chesterfield but prices were reasonable and staff was friendly. But I think I just set my hopes too high for my relleno. The weird sauce and burnt chips are why I gave a 2- otherwise I'd rate it a solid 3 maybe 3.5 for the nice Hawaiian tacos. Which to me is acceptable but nothing amazing. read more

Ordered from Don Pepe through Grub Hub. Ordered Vegetarian Fajita with Fried beans and the Hawaiian Quesadilla with Black Beans. The Grub Hub driver blocked the storm door so when i opened the door, the bags fell over. In the notes i ask the driver to place the delivery in the chairs on the porch. Frustrating. The Vegetarian Fajita had no fajita! It was just all the ingredients in a tin to go tray. The fried beans were a small portion and put in with the lettuce and tomato so it was cold. The medium chips were a good portion ordered as a side but the brown bag it was delivered in was doused with grease. Disappointing to say the least. The food was decent but we were really hungry so i think that tainted our taste buds. read more

It's been a while since I've eaten Mexican food out, but my soccer team had an early game and we wanted to eat together afterward. We normally go eat Italian or barbecue, but everyone was ready for something new. And with the weather, we knew margaritas were in order. We had a big group and were seated on the patio. The staff was super friendly, efficient and attentive. We were treated and had drinks within minutes. I ordered a margarita with patron, which was tasty and potent. Others had margaritas and beer. We ordered guacamole for the table and everyone placed their orders. I opted for chicken fajitas with a side of pico and jalapeño. The meal came with either beans or rice and a guacamole salad. My husband ordered tacos. Everything was tasty and the portions were large. Definitely adding this one to our soccer dinner rotation. read more

Was in town for the evening and decided to get food here for dinner before driving back home for the Sunday. When you arrive at your table, they place freshly made tortilla chips on the table with a small ramekin of salsa, along with one that they say is "spicy" but it looks creamy. Do not be fooled, it will sneak up on you as you continue to eat it. We ordered an appetizer of Chori queso, which is their chorizo mixed in with cheese dip. The chorizo is coarsely ground, and is a nice complement to the saltiness of the chips and cheese. I ordered the Burrito Macho, which is a burrito filled with rice, beans, chicken and chorizo covered with cheese. It is very large, good looking, and covered with plenty of cheese. It is a handful to eat, and I was hungry- I put it down pretty quickly. One thing to note- there is not one vegetable in the dish, besides the beans. No lettuce, tomato, onions. It was strange, and I was surprised. Besides the dinner I ordered a pineapple agua fresca, and it was refreshing for sure. Complemented my dinner and I was satisfied. Service was good, kitchen was pumping dishes out with the crowd it had- and I can't complain. Wish they had some hot sauce or something to offer with the meal. Maybe because of Covid they took all the sauces off. Would also have benefitted from extra napkins. Support small businesses. read more

After a long day of traveling from Texas to Richmond, my wife and I were getting "hangry" after just eating breakfast all day. It was around 5 PM and we checked out Yelp for options nearby and Don Pepe beckoned. Located by a Comfort Inn along W Hundred Road, the place looked like it had been there a while. Since it was before the busier dinner hours, the place was relatively empty and we were seated immediately. It took a while for us to decide and needed our server's feedback on which dish to choose. In the end, my wife opted for their Burrito Pablin with carnitas and smothered with white cheese. I was torn between Carne Asada and the Carnitas plate and our server recommended the carnitas and boy was I glad he did. The carnitas were so tender and flavorful, I couldn't stop eating it. It was quite possibly the best carnitas we've had since our last visit to Mexico many moons ago. It was that good. For food alone, we would give this place 5 stars. Service was attentive and friendly. The ambiance, however, isn't the best. If you don't care about the ambience, then this is a solid 5. Dinner for 2 came out to under $26 with tip. We'll have to come back and try other dishes...nah, maybe I'll stick with their carnitas. read more

We came here because of the 4.5 star rating but now I know those reviews were not done by true patrons or they just have never had good Mexican food. The service was good but the food was not up to par like the stars indicate. I had a margarita that lacked tequila and the enchilada sauce was like tomato sauce. Perhaps, some are good with that but the shredded chicken had no flavor so the pairing was not tasty. Some of the best food that I've had period. The place is spartan, but the food isn't. We stopped in about an hour before closing. We were shown to our seats by a nice young lady , had our drink orders taken, and given a chance to check out the menu. We were checked on several times, placed our order, and awaited our food. Son Pepe is my go to place when I have to grap a quick bit for lunch. As well at dinner time is perfect. Staff is always courteous, knowledgeable about their menu and customer service is alway prime. Ask for Christian and Eduardo these two gentlemen will indulge your experience. You need to remain resilient on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at dinner time. However, your wait will be worth it and your meal will come hot, tasty and prompt. This is not a fast food, this an exceptional family atmosphere. The reason why I give them four (4) starts, the decor needs an upgrade.
