School released early today due to a winter advisory so we decided to grab lunch at Don Pollo. The restaurant was empty with the exception of two parties dinning in and 2 other couples that walked in behind us. The cashier was friendly and helpful. The food order came out quickly and the chicken, including the breast section was well cooked and moist. This is one of the better Don Pollo shops in my opinion. Even the portion sizes of the sauce cups were rather large and unlike other franchise locations. The slaw was also very well made and I don't even like slaw but my fellas love it as a side, along with the fries. Parking was easy for us but I do know the area so parking on days with nice weather will be more challenging. I will return and I will also recommend them to others. I like the convenience of this place, but they should wear hair nets. The chicken is usually good, but sometimes dried out. The worst thing here are the undercooked french fries; we get carry out and always have to finish baking the fries when we get home. Management, please take note! read more

Went here for lunch with a co-worker today and we absolutely loved the food and the staff. The cashiers and the food prep employees were very nice and smiling the whole time we were there. I got the 1/2 chicken with two sides. The cucumber salad and plantains were delicious and the chicken was outstanding. I took the rest home to eat for dinner. I was very excited to have a Don Pollo so close to home, since this area is really lacking in decent take out. My son LOVES their garlicky mashed potatoes. However, since opening this location has really gone downhill. The last two times we've ordered take out the chicken was REALLY dry and the mashed potatoes were super salty and over whipped to a gummy consistency. They gave us attitude and began speaking about us in Spanish to each other saying how we were being so difficult when we gave them heads up about the separate checks. Don Pollo forgets that many people speak Spanish so they should think before they trash paying customers. Also, why is it so hard to get extra sauce? We were on our way out of DC and craving some Peruvian food- so glad we found Don Pollo! They have the typical pollo a la brasa and sides, as well as Peruvian specialties such as lomo saltado, drinks including chicha morada, and desserts including alfajores. My husband and I shared a half chicken with yucca and plantains as well as arroz chaufa con mariscos. The chicken (we got dark meat) was juicy and flavorful, accompanied by great sauces, and the arroz chaufa was delicious- I could taste soy sauce and sesame oil as well as other flavors, and it had a generous amount of seafood. The staff was friendly and helpful, interior was clean and attractive, bathrooms clean, and the outdoor seating under umbrellas was lovely for a warm, breezy day. Prices were reasonable. Really good Peruvian chicken. Flavorful and moist. I crave their mild and spicy sauces. Sides such as plantains, black beans and rice, and chaufa (Chinese fried rice) are excellent. Great atmosphere for a fast, casual establishment. We recently hosted a party for 26 people here and the manager and staff couldn't be more helpful. They don't take reservations, but 5 pm on a Saturday is not a busy time and we had no trouble claiming a few tables including the 22 seat middle table. Staff suggested a few 8 person fiesta meals and allowed us to put drinks on a tab to pay at the end. Much better and inexpensive food compared to some of the private rooms we were looking at. read more

Previously I had great results at Don Pollo when I ordered the meal for 4 deal. On this visit I asked if a half chicken with two sides would be enough for 2 people and the woman at the counter said that some people ate that themselves so I ordered a whole chicken and two sides. The sides were big enough that no normal person could eat a half chicken and 2 sides and the whole chicken was way too much food. The woman calling the numbers was calling them in Spanish, good thing I can speak that much Spanish but not the best idea I thought. Finally, when I went to get a carry out container and a bag, the woman at the counter asked me what I wanted and kind of scowled at me. The beans and rice had 3 cups of rice with 3 tablespoons of beans, usually there is a much better ratio of rice to beans, this was a lot rice with a splash of beans. The manager needs to get involved on the Sunday operation. read more

So there was HAIR in my plate. When I informed them, instead of discarding the plate they proceeded to transfer the part of the plate where the hair hasn't touched to a new plate. I told them I wanted a new plate (because there was hair?!?!) The guy got angry and tossed the chicken angrily on the cutting plate then onto the floor then chopped off part of a whole chicken (again really angrily). Then they gave me wrong sides. I didn't feel like dealing with them so I just took the wrong sides. Nobody apologized for hair being included in my meal. Honestly, I was so excited to have Don Pollo in my neighborhood. I really enjoy Peruvian chicken, and I tried this place for the first time tonight. I was not disappointed at all! I got the 1/4 dark chicken with 2 sides (beans and rice and the cucumber salad). The chicken was so good. The cucumber salad was tart and the rice and beans were so flavorful. I'm also a huge sauce girl, so I got excited when they served both a mayo based sauce (kind of tangy) and a green jalapeño sauce (pretty spicy!) and both were really good. My friend got the yuca, and the yuca was so good too. Some other places that I've tried that I didn't like as much was because either the chicken was dry, their sauces didn't taste good or the yuca was really dry. Which, don Pollo doesn't fall into any of these categories! (Plus portions are so decent, I wasn't able to finish all my food.) They also serve horchata if you know what that is and enjoy it, then you'll be excited to find it here! There's outdoor seating (where we ate) and lots of parking. The ambience of the place seems homey and authentic. It's clean and the staff were so friendly :) will definitely be back for my fix of Peruvian chicken! read more

I came into this Don Pollo location happy because every location I have been I received great service from start to end. This was my second time here. I think the woman that assisted me with my order was the manager. She seemed like she was in a bad mood. I get it... We all have bad days but try to put it aside and serve service with a smile. When your employee is lost, help them instead of turning away. If a customer asks a simple question... even if it sounds repetitive... just answer it. Don't give a customers or your employee a dirty look. read more

I've been here many times as it's within a few miles of where I live/work. I like the chicken, sauces are OK. Potato salad is excellent. Coleslaw used to be excellent, but has changed - now tastes as though they added vanilla ice cream (?!). Yuck. But then when you who are Spanish like my self but of dark skin color. They look at you as though your going to put the whole store in your pocket! What is interesting is this particular location is much more high end that a lot of there other location maybe because of the location . I hope this location succeeds but it is in a very low traffic area ? Not sure why they didn't go in mall maybe too expensive . I would try the basic 1/4 chicken with two sides . We decided to try it, simply because it was there. The menu items are in Spanish with explanations of everything. Cute idea. I ordered the Chaufa con Carne (Peruvian Fried RIce with steak.) My wife ordered the Ceviche de Mariscos (cold, marinated (not cooked) mixed seafood with various vegetables and spices.) Good thing: There was plenty of food, served hot. Review of the food: The Chaufa con carne was acceptable. A few of the pieces of meat were all gristle, but otherwise okay. The rice was mixed with scallions, cilantro, and other spices. (I usually avoid hot spices, because of a medical condition, but this time, it was bland. In fact, it needed salt, which I added, sparingly.) In addition, the rice was topped with a large garnish of additional chopped scallions. (I simply moved them off the food.) There were two sauces. One was mayonnaise with some yellow spice added. It added nothing to the flavor. The other was a green sauce that had a surprising kick. (It was like the green sauce that you find in Tex/Mex restaurants. (I don't recall what it's called.) I stayed well away from that. I liked my food well enough to eat the entire plateful. Unfortunately, it was a different story for my wife. She ate one or two bites of the dish, and announced that she couldn't eat it. The so-called marinated seafood was slimy, which means it wasn't fresh. There were some things on top of it that she couldn't identify. She said that the flavor was awful. She immediately took it back and asked for the same thing I ordered. That satisfied her, somewhat. She agreed that the fried rice dish was acceptable. We are pleased that the manager replaced her food, but somewhat disappointed that he didn't refund the difference between the dishes. (The fried rice was about $12, and the seafood was about $15.) I'm sure that if the swap was the other way around, he would have not hesitated to ask for the difference in price. Our total tab was $32. That's a lot for lunch. read more

Disappointing. The chicken breast was undercooked and only lukewarm. The rice and beans on the other hand were over cooked and dry. The Peruvian spaghetti dish was ok -- had flavor but the beef was a bit dry. Irritated that the packager did not put the lid on the soup properly (this was a takeout order) and so the entire soup was in the bottom of the takeout bag! Finally, the Peruvian cookies don't come close to those at la limena. Won't go back again. Crisp and Juicy, while not quite as good as it once was, is still much better than don Pollo. I always enjoyed the food here, however, one Saturday night the customer service ruined my entire experience here. I ordered for pick up and they said it would be ready in 10 min. When I get there they tell me they ran out of chicken as they were closing shortly. I told them why did they take my order knowing they didn't have chicken to serve. I drove all the way over to pick up my order. The women working Saturday night was rude, had an attitude, and showed zero compassion that I drove 20 minutes. Just terrible. read more
