For appetizers, we tried the soul roll and the jerk chicken tacos, and we finished the meal with the banana pudding for dessert. Overall, everything was okay. Nothing we tried really stood out as a must-have, but nothing was bad either. The soul roll and jerk chicken tacos were a nice way to start the meal, and the banana pudding was a good way to end it. The atmosphere is still one of the highlights of the restaurant, but when it comes to the food, I'd say it's decent overall. This was not my first time at this restaurant, but unfortunately, it will be my last. The oxtails we received were miniature, with barely any meat on the bones. Since we ordered our food to go, we didn't realize how disappointing the portions were until we made the 50-minute drive back home. The oxtail plate was $50 with two sides, and even the sides were very minimal. We purchased two plates and spent almost $150, only to be extremely disappointed with the quality and portions. To make matters worse, when I tried to call the restaurant to express my concerns and give them an opportunity to address the issue, their mailbox was full and I was unable to speak with anyone or even leave a message. We genuinely try to support Black-owned businesses, which makes experiences like this even more disappointing. For the prices being charged, customers deserve quality food, reasonable portions, and accessible customer service. Right off the top our server introduced themselves with a lackadaisical attitude which leads me to believe the automatic 20% service fee for parties of 2 or more may be a deterrent for the intuitive tipper. The wait was more than I would have liked. 40 minutes feels more like an hour when you're hungry and in a rush. Advice for the potential patron: Plan ahead by getting a reservation, know what you'd like to order right away if you can help it. I just did not like it. I think the overall concept of the restaurant is nice, but I didn't like the food overall. My husband ordered the catfish and it was pretty good. I ordered the soul food eggrolls and the thanksgiving eggrolls. I think the soul food eggrolls were way too sweet, almost off putting. Our server was really nice but I could tell he was a bit overwhelmed. We waited at least 10-15 min before being acknowledged at our table. We ordered a couple of desserts to go, including the peach cobbler, banana pudding and the cake of the day. Banana pudding tasted very good, while the peach cobbler and the cake of the day were not impressive. To start off the food wasn't bad at all. It could have been better but it also could have been worse. I've had other southern comfort soul food places in Houston and I would probably choose them before Jordyn's. I will say the lamb chops were delicious. The customer service could be a lot better. It took 5+ mins just for me and my friend to get acknowledged and seated because the hostess wasn't in the front which was confusing because the place was pretty empty. Instead of ordering the Oxtails and Mac & Cheese, because even though I wanted it, who needs all that cheese right now, lol, I ordered the Oxtails entree and added a side of Collard Greens and Candied Yams and that did it for me. However, I was a little disappointed that the oxtails and the crab meat in the fried rice were salty. Such a shame. The atmosphere was booming in the best way. This place is "Mid" at best. The average reviews are in line with my experience. Food was reheated and side items still came out cold. Tastes like they have chef Mike (microwave) back there working hard. Baked chicken flavor was good, but over cooked and white meat was dry. Mac and cheese edible, but greasy/mushy. Short ribs were full of fat. Greens taste old/bitter. Just another over priced soul food spot hoping they can make it on the hype. Service was not bad, "mid" as well. I don't mind the auto 20% tip if you train your staff, but that is a lost skill. They have to add the tip because they wouldn't get it otherwise. Tip should be set at 15%, because it was average. If they open a bunch of locations across America, they'll be a Jor-Dynasty. Maybe they can also open in Dallas, and have the owner's son run the place, it can be called JR's. And one in med center, not sure where, but in the "General Hospital" location would be fine. Anyway, I'm not a fan. The food is fine, although my fave soul food places in Jackson MS and Montgomery AL and Charleston SC (and many others) are so much better (and infinitely cheaper) so I can't really honestly compare the food. By Houston soul food standards, it's fine, but most people aren't coming for the food. You can tell by the clouds of hookah smoke on the sidewalk when the door opens, by the insanely attractive hostesses and the really abrasive attitudes, and by the extremely long Valet line blocking off traffic in an already tricky neighborhood. Valet issues and clouds of hookah smoke are part of what puts me off here, but there's definitely a "bottle girl aesthetic" with the employees and if you're looking for that, and for long wait times, hookah, partying, Valet, then this is your place. Real cozy and elegant ambience. Our waitress came promptly and took our drink orders and patiently explained the menu and answered all of our questions. Now I'll start with the cons because there aren't many. 1. Parking. For the amount of money you're going to spend the $10 you have to pay for parking seems a bit much. 2. The pricing is a little high compared to other places with the same dishes. 3. And last, for them to have jusy opened a couple of hours before we arrived, they were out of the the first couple of things we wanted to order and a couple that we didn't. Now to the food.. a little over priced as it my it was worth EVERY penny. We started with the fried green tomatoes and pot roast empanadas. Tomatoes were meh.. but the empanadas were amazing. My oxtail pizza was amazing. I mean it was down right delicious. Oxtail were so tender and flavorful. Crust was thin and crispy just how I like it. Sauce was lite and super rich to overpower the flavor of the oxtail. There was meat in every bite and it was perfectly cheesy. My wife ordered the beef short ribs and they were fall-off-the-bone tender and full of flavor and the Mac great. My mother ordered the oxtail plate with yams and greens and our friend ordered the smothered chicken and both were equally pleased with there dishes. They are locate in a nice area close to the museum district. They do offer valet parking for $10. There is parking in the neighborhood but it's very limited. The greens were something like I have never tasted, wayy too sweet. And even after I sent the greens back barely touched, this item was still included on my bill. The blueberry lemonade was good! We both started with lemon drops--mine was passionfruit, his was mango. Sweet, tasty, and had just enough kick to remind you it's not juice. We started off with buffalo wings, and whew--they were JUICY, spicy, and came out hot. Only downside? It was supposed to be six wings, but one of them was just the little extra piece at the end that nobody counts as a real wing. Like... sir, that's wing confetti. Don't play with me. When I say he was licking his fingers and blowing on his food like it was lava? The man was fighting for his taste buds and still going back for more--he loved it. My steak had a bit too much fat for my liking, but the mashed potatoes? Chef's kiss. Seasoned just right. The broccolini was cooked like it graduated from culinary school--just how I like it. The vibe of the place was giving red, black, and gold glam with chandeliers everywhere--very cute date night energy. We loved our experience here. The food was excellent and served in huge portions, definitely enough to take some home. The drinks were on point and strong. There was a live DJ spinning great music. There was a photographer taking pictures, available for purchase; $20 included a nice frame as well. Overall, the atmosphere was fun and lively. The bar offered plenty of drink options, including festive Christmas specialties, and if you're into hookah, they've got that too. I visited Jordyns last Saturday, and I have to say--this place completely exceeded my expectations. From the outside, I wasn't sure what to expect since it's pretty low-key and doesn't really grab your attention. But once I stepped inside, it was a whole different story. The atmosphere was beautiful, the music was on point, and the overall vibe was just right. I asked the bartender what he recommended, and he confidently told me, "everything is good." That set the bar high--but they absolutely delivered. I ordered the jerk chicken with collard greens and rice, and the food was amazing. Flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. I honestly didn't want to leave. The service was quick and on point. Fabian, the bartender, took great care of me, and there was another woman named Jessica working with him who made an excellent Old Fashioned. They also made me a Hennessy sunrise-type drink that was top-tier. On top of that, the crowd and energy made the experience even better--I ended up meeting some really cool people visiting from out of town. Great food, great drinks, great service, and great vibes. 5 stars across the board. I'll definitely be back--and probably sooner than later. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND We decided to come here for lunch with friends, and the experience started off confusing. We walked past one entrance to what looked like the main door, but there was a sign telling us to use the other door. We tried that one--it was locked. So we went back to the first door we passed, and that ended up being the actual entrance. The hostess was sitting there watching us struggle with the doors. Once inside, the hostess was fairly friendly. The restaurant only had two occupied tables, so it was practically empty. Unfortunately, our waitress seemed completely uninterested in providing service. When we asked for recommendations, she simply pointed out some of the most expensive items on the menu and looked annoyed while doing so. One of my friends even got up to ask the hostess for suggestions. She mentioned that the items we were considering were "playing it safe" and encouraged us to try other options. When the waitress returned to take our order, she still had the same careless attitude. I asked how the dressing was, and she responded with a short "It's good," then just stared at me as if waiting for me to hurry up and finish ordering. There was no effort at customer service at all. I also noticed the hostess asking other guests if they wanted cornbread, but we were never offered any. We weren't asked if we wanted drinks or anything either. Later we found out it was happy hour by overhearing the hostess/bartender tell another guest. Let's get to the food: PLATE 1: Jerk Turkey Wings - The jerk seasoning sits on the surface, but the meat itself lacks flavor. The wings are also very overcooked, which makes them dry and unappealing. Cornbread Dressing - The texture is both mushy and gritty, and the only noticeable flavor is salt. I would not recommend this at all. Greens - The greens taste old, almost like they've been sitting in a metal pot too long, with an odd hint of sweetness. PLATE 2: Jerk (Salt) Chicken Wings - Extremely salty. The salt completely overpowers the jerk seasoning. Mac & Cheese - Very average. It's edible, but not something I'd go out of my way to have again. Greens - The greens taste old, almost as if they've been sitting in a metal pot too long, with a strange hint of sweetness. DESERT: I wouldn't dare order but my friend already had her eyes on the peach cobbler. The waitress didn't know the brand of ice cream that came with it. The peach cobbler came out cold as the ice cream at this point it's funny because this has to be a joke. She asked them to warm it up. Took the food to give to the homeless. Asked for the manager after paying, "Jill" said the manager's weren't available. read more
