Wow! What an experience! We have always wanted to try Donatello--it's a historical, legendary institution. Be sure to look at the photos of the celebrity guests like Drake and Frankie Valli. Reservations: We took my mom for Mother's Day and booked an online reservation with ease. Parking: We valet-parked, no problem. Service: We were greeted with water and a delicious bread basket, and our drink orders were taken immediately. Food: The menu is very upscale Italian, as is the restaurant itself. I ordered the chicken Milanese, and my husband had the tortellini. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert, but the cappuccinos were lovely.

We visited Donatello for the first time and were immediately impressed by the service. The host gave us a very warm welcome and seemed to know many of the guests, which made it feel like a place with lots of regulars. The atmosphere is romantic, perfect for a date night. I ordered the Piccata al Limone, and it was delicious. The food and drinks were both excellent, and everything felt professionally prepared. The service was outstanding. The only downside is the price most entrees are around $40, which feels a bit high. Still, that's a small drawback compared to the overall great experience.

Very romantic restaurant with a live pianist and moody red lighting that creates an intimate atmosphere. The host was exceptionally friendly and even handed out roses to guests. We ordered the veal piccata and the cannelloni, both of which were tasty. Parking is limited, but valet service is available. While the food and ambiance were nice, I felt the restaurant was overpriced for the overall value.

Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday after reading the glowing Yelp reviews. Upon entering, we were greeted like regulars and seated. Perfect venue for special occasions, service is impeccable and the food is excellent. My caprice salad was very tasty ( $25) and my linguine (homemade) bolenese was excellent- large portion with plenty of flavor. My wife had the grouper special which was exceptional. Our wine was a generous pour. After waiving a white flag to surrender, they sang Happy Birthday and presented us with a wonderful chocolate cake and a rose(nice touch) Expensive but again- nice for special occasions in an upscale ambiance. My family brought me here for my birthday celebration and we were all so impressed with the many intricate details this restaurant makes to provide the ultimate dining experience. Excellent ambiance, food and service! When you walk in you immediately feel elegance and authentic Italian culture with gorgeous paintings and ceiling murals. High points and recommendations: Expresso martinis are a must before you begin looking at the Extensive wine menu. We all had pasta and steaks. Can not recommend this highly enough!

Donatello is a very upscale, classy Italian dining experience in Tampa, Florida. From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by the owner and quickly taken to your seat. You can expect a very intimate setting. The aura is filled with garlic and amazing smells! Our waiter gave us a great recommendation for a Sauvignon Blanc wine and kept our glasses full. The service was exceptional! We started with lumache (escargot) and salad and it was perfect. They split our two entrees of pasta and steak in half and it was so nice. I celebrated a family birthday and they brought dessert and sang, as well. All the portions were extremely big and made for great leftovers. Valet parking is your option and it's quick and reliable. The prices are very fair for an upscale restaurant and it was a great meal!

Loved this restaurant ! It was very nice to experience this place and the amazing food. The service was amazing and friendly. The pasta I ordered was amazing and I loved that I was able to modify it. I ordered the crab linguini pasta and asked for their truffle cream sauce and it was delicious. If I come here again I will order a pasta with fettuccini because those noodles were amazing that I tried off my bfs plate. The tiramisu was also delicious, one of the best !

This restaurant gives old school Italian vibes. It's very dimly lit, lots of candles and still has booths. We went for my birthday and the staff acknowledged my birthday several times, which was nice! Not pictured, the tomato caprese was amazing! The entrée portions were HUGE! I think the food, especially entrées were definitely overpriced. The food was good, but I think there are better Italian places in the area.

This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. We decided to attend the Mardi Gras event, and upon arrival, we were greeted and offered Mardi Gras face masks, which was a nice touch. However, the experience quickly went downhill. After being seated, the first thing our waiter asked was if we wanted a drink, but I wasn't given a wine list or drink menu--I had to ask for it. That should have been the first red flag. When I finally saw the selection, I was disappointed with the available cabernets and chose not to order any wine. For appetizers, we ordered the tortellini soup and mussels in red sauce. Instead, we were served two orders of mussels in white sauce. I had to send them back. When the correct appetizers finally arrived, I was shocked by what was placed in front of us. The tortellini soup was essentially salt water with five tortellini floating in it--completely underwhelming. The mussels, fortunately, were good, but the server attempted to take my plate away twice, making me feel rushed. For our entrées, we ordered linguini with clams in white wine sauce and the cannelloni Donatello. The cannelloni came out looking more like enchiladas than an Italian dish. My linguini, at least, was decent. As for the entertainment, I thought it was enjoyable--live music and performers going around added to the atmosphere. However, the overall dining experience was subpar. Between the service mishaps, disappointing food, and rushed atmosphere, I won't be returning.

Atmosphere - Great! This is a quintessential, Old World Italian restaurant. Having said this, if you don't like the color pink, it may not be for you. When you enter the restaurant you will be warmly greeted by two gentlemen who make you feel like a special guest. The only ding that prevents a 5 star rating is that the tables are a bit too tight and the room can be quite noisy. The servers as dressed to the "Nines" and they are very friendly, but professional. Service- Very Good. As mentioned above, the restaurant is staffed with high quality, professional servers. Food - Excellent! As my entree, I had Veal Scaloppini sautéed with prosciutto and fontina cheese. The veal was extremely tender and the combination of the prosciutto and cheese in the sautéed sauce was delicious. My wife and I shared the Zucchini Fritti, which also very good. The breading was light and it was deep fried perfectly. Overall Value - Very Good. This is , in my opinion, one of the best Italian restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area

We arrived early for our reservation so we could have a drink at the bar. The bar area is very nice and my lemon drop martini was a great size and was good. We were then taken into the dining room, which is huge. For a Sunday night, it was packed!!! The servers are all super efficient and everything moves along quickly, but you don't feel rushed. The menu is extensive. My husband and I shared the fried zucchini which is served with a marinara sauce. Although I took pictures, you can't really tell what they are because of the pink lights at the tables. The zucchini was a large portion and was great. For my entree I had the cannelloni which was stuffed with sausage and cheese. Again, good flavor. The best of all was that they heated the food right in the restaurant, so my food was piping hot, which I love. We had a wonderful evening and I would highly recommend coming here.

Lemon drop martini...made perfect! Complimentary bread/butter.

My boyfriend got the Penne Alla Vodka and added a chicken cutlet (which $15 to add a chicken cutlet is actually insane). The pasta could've used more sauce in both of our opinions. The service was a little on the slower side, which we wouldn't mind as much if the gnats outside weren't eating us alive. They have fans, but the one table we sat at was where the fan didn't reach. So this is definitely a reservation-indoor seating spot for us next time unless they add another outdoor fan. This dampened our experience a bit, especially because we were excited about the outdoor seating.

Service was ok - server was polite and professional. Took our drink and food order but really didn't check back in on us frequently. The valentine menu included a starter, a soup or salad, a main entrée and a dessert per person. I ordered the artichoke dip as my starter, tomato soup, the blackened mahi and for dessert, the chocolate mousse cake. Artichoke dip was the winner of the evening. It was very good and plentiful so we actually boxed and took home to enjoy. The tomato soup came out next and was so salty that it was not edible. The soup and the artichoke dip sat on the table for a while before the waitress came over to check in on us. When she did come over we advised we wanted the artichoke dip boxed, but the tomato soup was overly salty, like the container of salt fell into the soup. The individuals at the table next to us agreed that the soup was not able to be eaten due to the salt level, the server basically apologized and said there was nothing that they could do given it was a set menu, which was very disappointing that they did nothing to either resolve the issue or offer a salad in place of the soup give we could not eat the salad. Since the meal was prepaid, they should've done something to fix, but the messaging was basically like oh you're SOL. Like I took your money now deal with it. On to the mahi -- it was supposed to be served over coconut lime rice however it was more like a firm block of mushy porridge. Like the rice, maybe had been sitting in water or something all day not sure but it was gross and it had no flavor. The fish was also overcooked because it wasn't flaky and I think that it lacked flavor as well. I ended up boxing it and not even eating it whenever we got home. I think the trash can enjoyed it more than I did. We were full and basically over the experience so we got our desserts to go. Hubs ordered the poundcake and I ordered the chocolate mousse cake. Got home, put everything in the fridge except for the desserts, sat down on the couch to enjoy our desserts and mine was missing!! I had a takeout container that had the whipped cream and a little thing of chocolate mousse in it but no cake. WTHeck man!? It was icing on the cake or the cherry on top for the evening we experienced at this point. Let's just say that based on all the reviews for this place, we expected better and were quite disappointed. Especially for the cost of the prefix menu. I truly believe that a higher quality should've been had given this was one of the busiest days of the year to win people over.

Finally got to try Forbici this weekend and it did not disappoint! Saturday night was very busy and…read morethe wait was over an hour but thankfully they had a table for 2 that did not show up so we got right in!! The restaurant is loud and lively due to it being so busy! They have a a great cocktail menu with Italian spritz and rotating specials. For appetizers we did the buffalo chicken pizza which was so delicious!! They have a thin and thick crust pizzas, but this one only came in thick crust. For entrees we did the gnocchi and since they offer pasta half portions, I had the Cacio e Pepe and the rigatoni alla vodka! Both were delicious and that Cacio e Pepe was so creamy. Our server was nice and friendly. The cost for 2 honestly wasn't that bad. I loved all the food and will definitely be back!!

Forbici is a Tampa classic. I came for Saturday brunch after Barry's…read more The hostess wasn't very welcoming, but our server was friendly and helpful. We were originally seated outside, but it was too hot, so we asked to move inside. She was happy to accommodate us. I ordered the Eggs in Purgatory. The eggs weren't runny, which was disappointing, but the dish was still very tasty. The portion was smaller than I expected, so I left a little hungry. Overall, I recommend Forbici. The prices are hard to beat, especially compared to other restaurants in Hyde Park.
