I will never go back there again. I realize with 4.5 stars that my review may be overlooked and that's fine. I noticed this misaligned front hood and hoped they would honor their so-called "Lifetime Warranty". However, before I brought it in, I called to make sure I was not wasting the trip because on a previous occasion, their adjuster, "Collin", was a jerk to me. The receptionist was polite, reminded me of the warranty and even agreed to e-mail me the 2017 repair records so I could give it to another shop that I have since given business to (in Daly City) and they are great! When I showed up, Collin, whipped out a camera and WITHOUT even asking me for permission, took many photos of my car! He then quickly dismissed my request to them to honor their 'lifetime warranty'. First he said: "The repair was three years ago". When I reminded him of their "lifetime warranty" on their work then he said "You came here several times and were not satisfied. This is within spec and we will not help you." No measurements were taken. Just a brief and unprofessional F-you, and a waste of a trip too. I've never had such a positive experience as I did at this auto body shop. I have a hard time trusting any type of car dealership or shop, because I don't know much about cars and they always have a bad reputation. This place restored my faith in humanity. I came in after a piece of the molding on the side of my car got peeled off in a parking garage. I only needed a couple clips to snap it back into place. At this autobody shop, they recycled parts, so they had extra clips ready to go. They replaced the clips, snapped my molding back into place, and sent me on my way without any charge. I tried to pay them 20 bucks at least for their effort, but they wouldn't even take it. The nice lady that works the front desk even cleaned old paint off the bumper of my car! They were so nice! I will only be returning to the shop for repairs in the future. read more

One of the top things I'm thankful for in 2017 is definitely the quality of the craftsmanship at Don's auto body. Angela and Collin were extremely respectful and helped guide me through the process of getting my car from claim to repair. From the first day the damage occurred, they promptly responded to my phone call with guidance on the process and the next steps. They made me confident that my car was in good hands. The car returned two days earlier than expected and looked as spiffy as it had before. I would definitely recommend their services if you want a shop that is transparent with the cost of their repair work, quick with their submission to insurance, and provides a high quality of care. In short, Don's auto body is a fantastic body repair shop. Not only is the work top quality but the people are very attentive and helpful. For insurance work they're tops and part of the AAA network so no issues there. I've had my car broken into, vandalized and one major accidents (not my fault) over the last 6 years of living in SF. I found Don's on Yelp 6 years ago and have continued to bring my car to them because of their exceptional work and service. One thing to note is that they back their work with a lifetime warranty. After a couple years of one repair, i noticed a minor problem. When I brought the car in for a completely unrelated repair, they fixed the old problem without question. In fact they were upset the original repair wasn't done properly and apologized for the inconvenience--which it wasn't. What a great attitude and dedication to backing their work. I was referred to Don's by SF Honda for a windshield replacement. I am also a little confused by the disparity in reviews for this place, but my experience was good so I'm reviewing accordingly. I made an appt. for 7 a.m. I was there, the shop was open and people were moving around (at that hour not always the case in other places), and I was handled promptly when I arrived. Jerry is the glass guy, he spoke to me about the work to be done, and said it would be no problem. He offered to have the car back by lunch time, which was a problem for me because I need the car for work. He said "no problem, I'll have it ready in an hour and a half", and he did. When I came back an hour and a half later it was there waiting with a factory windshield, good as new. I realize not everyone's experience may have been as good as mine, I'm just glad mine was good and hopefully I won't be back in an auto body shop again anytime soon. read more

I'm really impressed with the service I received at Don's Auto Body. My insurance company referred me after my car had been stolen and damaged. Collin did a great job communicating everything through the whole process, and Sam even knew me by name when I called. At one point, we had some misunderstandings (prior damage I thought was a result of theft, but wasn't), and they went out of their way to make sure the car was safe and I was happy. I have been here 3 times now, and there is a reason I am loyal. First, they are some of the NICEST people I've encountered in a small business. Second, they do what they say, when they say they will. Their estimates are in line with the competition. Third, and most recent: They actually helped me out FOR FREE yesterday, with no appointment. I had dislodged my bumper, went in to see what a repair or replacement would cost, and instead, they dropped what they were doing and spent 15 minutes trying to attach my bumper on the spot. They succeeded, also gave me an estimate for when/if I decided to replace the bumper at a future date...but man oh man....who does that in the city anymore? I drove out of there with my bumper saved, at no cost to me, and at THEIR cost of time and inconvenience. I can't say enough about these guys. Took my car here per the recommendation of my insurance company's adjuster. A drunk driver had plowed into it while it was parked and done substantial damage to the hood, front passenger-side quarter panel, and passenger door frame. These guys were out of sight -- probably deserve more than five stars. They were friendly, responsive to both e-mails and phone calls, and even sent me digital photos of the car's progress. Excellent quality of work. Very, very strong communicators, and worked with a couple special requests to have only OEM parts applied. They received a hard to get part, but it had a very small scratch on it. They notified me, allowed me to make the choice if I'd like to keep the part or request a new one. A car scrapped my car while trying to parallel park and I was really worried it was going to cost me major $$$ to get it fixed. I called on a Monday and they were able to take my car in on a Tuesday. Cynthia mentioned that they'd take a look at the car and call me to let me know what needed to be done and how much it would be. I came back to pick up my car at the end of the day and my car looked spotless. Cynthia said the scratches were minor and they were able to get all off but one. She ordered paint directly from the dealership for the final scratch. The kicker? All of this was free. Yes FREE. I was so impressed with their kindness, honesty, and attitude about the whole thing. I can't speak on their work because I didn't end up getting anything done. I just needed a fender realigned, some scratches buffed out and a small amount of touch up paint. They first quoted me $3,200. I called to ask why and they had a long list of parts they were going to remove, repaint, repair etc for just a few scratches. I told them not to worry about a few of the tasks and only do the major ones. They also gave me a "discount" on labor. The new estimate was $1,850 and they had to schedule it out a month and said I would have to leave the car there for over a week. When I called to talk about it and, again, tell them to remove some of the unnecessary tasks, I was basically told that it wouldn't be worth it to them and I should go somewhere else. So I did, I was charged only $250 at the other shop right down the street. They did everything I wanted and it looks great. And they did it the same day in only a few hours. Don's wants to add a lot of unnecessary work and they'll tell you the hard, expensive, time consuming way is the only option so they can charge you more. This is the typical body shop that you worry about being ripped off by and they will. read more

After getting hit in a parking lot by a large commercial truck, I found Don's Auto Body. Since I had never been through anything like this and dealing with insurance companies, the service I got at Don's was a lifesaver. From the moment I stepped into the office I was welcomed and helped. The ladies called the rental car place and found me a 7 passenger car that was a must for my family and held it until we could get through to the insurance company and then arranged for me to get picked up and shuttled to the rental car location. Jeff handled my case and kept me in close communication to let me know what was going on with the estimate and what feedback he was getting from the insurance. He was easy to work with and kept me in the loop. In the end, my car looks as good as new and they did a great job detailing it so it looked way better than when I brought it in. They handled the rental car pick up and all the paper work. I am so pleased with Jeff and his team at Don's and would definitely recommend them to friends and family! read more

These guys have been in business for over 30 years, they are not here to scam anyone. I always received a great reception and great customer service when I bring my car in. They are a pretty big shop but their owner Cyndy always makes me feel like a guest and not just another customer. To me, these guys are trustworthy and dependable when it comes to body repairs. I am sure you run into some bad people when you are dealing with something as frustrating as auto body repair, but giving these guys 1 star and ridiculous claims is beyond disrespectful. I recommend going there and experiencing for yourself before you make judgments. At the very least, give them a call and ask any questions you have. These guys are great, and that's my 2 cents. 10 Stars out of 5!! This place is the BEST. I've gone there over the years for this and that. Don's is about quality AND customer service. I went in a few months ago when some yahoos jumped on the roof of my car and dented it in. Went to Don's. The guy looks at it and says "maybe one of my guys can push out the dent." 5 minutes later, I'm out. No charge. I gave a tip. Yesterday I go back after someone pulled out of parking place and scratched the passenger side of my car. I got a (big) estimate by my insurance company. I wanted some extra bumper work done so I talked to two shops, one in my neighborhood. I decided to get one more look. Cynthia at Don's looked closely at the scratches, had one of her guys get a rag and some rubbing compound. A few minutes of rubbing and the black "scratches" were gone. They were left by other driver's bumper! Minor real scratches, tiny dents weren't worth fixing on an SF car. NO CHARGE! She said, "if this was my car, here's what I would do." I agreed and left with big insurance check still in my pocket. She said "save it for bigger dents or mechanical work." Gift to her is on the way! read more

This is HUNTER, but I don't have a yelp account! Anyways! Dons auto body is absolutely fantastic. The staff is helpful, quick and HONEST, especially Cindy. After having gone to a couple repair shops that were going to charge me up the wazoo for a replacement part, Cindy told me it would be best just to reattach the bumper on the cheap and get the car detailed elsewhere. What a relief! I would recommend driving out from anywhere in the Bay to head to Dons for all your autonomy work. They are just GREAT people! read more

I'm writing this review because I feel deceived about the quality of work I received here. I purchased a new Acura and after someone hit my parked car, I took it here after reading the positive reviews. Since my car is high-maintenance black, I baby this thing. I know every ding, scratch, and swirl mark on my car...especially before I took it here. Let me start with the positive... -The damage to the bumper was fixed and no signs of an accident (paint match excluded) Now the negatives... -paint (not) matching is noticeable in sunlight, not in the dark garage when I picked it up. -after a year, the paint is starting to peel off (granted, Acura switched to water-based paint...but still, this shouldn't happen on this level for a fairly new car.) -I found scratches (not swirls) on my trunk as if someone wiped it down with a dirty cloth. -a large scratch was found on my roof that wasn't there before -a scratch was found on the chrome part of the grill. I even asked an employee to take a photo but no action was ever taken on their part. -They had washed my car and didn't completely dry my car before waxing, thus leaving water spots underneath a coat of wax. -service was delayed beyond the estimate but I had to follow up to get this information. No call on their part. -The windshield molding looks to be held down with double-sided tape -THE WORST PART: balancing was part of the package due to the type of accident. I noticed the steering was a bit loose after several months only to find out from another shop that a locking screw on the front axle wasn't tightened properly. Additional damage included excessive tire wear. After this, I don't think I'll ever take my car here for repair...and I cannot recommend this shop to others. read more

I am so angry with this place. Took the car in for some body work. (a scratch on the car and some previous damage to my door). Beside the fact that the car was there for 9 days and I had to keep calling to check the status, I brought the car home and my door is in worse shape than when I brought it in. Can barely lock the door and to top it off...I have a brand new dent on one of the doors. After telling this to them they of course are refusing to fix the dent. I could go on an on... read more

I would NEVER go here again. These guys are crooks. I came to get my car fixed and they offered me a "part allowance" where instead of fixing my bumper, they replace it with another one they get from some outside source (like a junk yard or pick-n-pull, I found out later). The paint started peeling within months and they told me that since I was willing to take the part, it was my risk and they wouldn't fix it. They used shoddy parts and then passed it off as acceptable. They also kept my car for over a month because they couldn't figure out how to get a dash light to turn off. I couldn't have been more disappointed at the service, communication and result of bringing my car to such unscrupulous mechanics. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! read more

Oh well, much as i dont want to have to give these guys a big fat ZERO for customer service, quality of product and quality of workmanship. I posted my complaint a while ago, and am posting the results of their after care now. BIG FAIL. (you can see original post below.) After numerous visits, including with Don the owner, who accepted that the paint or workmanship was substandard, they said they could not find record of the work being completed as their records dont go back that far in a reliable way, and the guy that was hired in the shop and booked my job ran his own 'side business' - therefore may have not recorded things properly. I know I did the work there, they say they cant confirm, i think- due to their own poor admin systems. I could call my credit card company and get them to do a special check, but then what? Persuade reluctant auto shop to fulfill their own warranty pledges? I've heard stories of random and unexpected problems appearing at other garages while the car is in shops care and dont want to run that risk). From the beginning with the manager, they have tried to avoid any responsibility. Poor poor experience all round. ORIGINAL EXPERIENCE POST "before you consider using them heed this story... Nice helpful workers, did a good timely job...walk away happy. But thats not the end of the story people. What about the quality of the work over time? I came in and had my bumpers resprayed in August 2009. All looked good, however a year later strange bubble started appearing. Now, 3 yrs on its an eyesore. Bad workmanship? Cheap paint? Who knows so I drive in last week to see them. Often with service providers customer service is great before you spend your money, so far have been VERY unsatisfied with customer service when I've returned with a complaint. Here is a list of responses from the manager last week in a 5 min conversation; We dont have any record of doing the work for you - our files only go bk 2 years. Cant help you. The guy that did the work doesnt work here anymore, and I dont know if he ran the job thru the business or on the side (WTF?!) Cant help you. If there has been any kind of, even small, impact on the bumpers, it could cause the paint to fall off (joke or what?). Cant help you. Basically wanted me out of there asap. I insisted on having this escalated to the owner, and will email him today and post his response. The garage is on Laurel Village, where I work as a teacher for over 50 families - in fact the garage was recommended by one to me, when I did the work. I hope Dons Auto Body SF, the owners, wish to validate that positive recommendation, especially by upping the customer service attitude of the manager Leonard. Will keep ya posted. read more

Story of accident: Few years back, rainy day, traffic lights out, chick on cell fails to stop hits me in driver side. AAA recommends me to this place. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Find someone else! Cons: 1. Ordered wrong headlight bracket for my car, guess they realized it and instead of ordering the correct one they re-used the old slightly damaged one. 2. Fender gap to door/hood didn't line up correctly, instead of being an equal gap, looked like a "V", questioned about work, the service rep Shouted back "it's fine, it's supposed to be like that." Guess I was nitpicking too much and the rep got offended? 3. 1.5 ft scratch on newly replaced fender when I go pick up car, luckily it buffed right out, took like 10 mins...... Not sure why you would return it to me like this, maybe someone walked by and grazed it. 4. Replacement bumper said it was new, don't think so? Already wavy when I got it. I understand the stock bumper has a tendency to get wavy over time, but not 3-5 days after it gets painted... 5. 1-2 months later, someone bumper checks my bumper when parked, instead of leaving a mark, the paint splits. Like there was no adhesion to the bumper. Pros: 1. Kept all the damaged parts for me by request, good thing too got a free headlight bracket. AVOID, AVOID! It says 7 day service; took a day less than a month. Got the car with parts still to be installed in the trunk. The painted front bumper is crap, orange peel finish and thin clear coat. The service person assigned to me call 2 twice during the month, I had to call to find out what the heck was going on. The service person kept referring to the process on my car as a "cluster" not very professional and when I picked it up it was dirty and the check engine light was on, the Audi dealer had to reset it. read more

I've been to Don's 3 times over the last couple of years after getting into some small car accidents. They have always been so helpful and professional. They took care of everything for the other insurance companies and always kept me updated about everything. The best part is if you need a rental car, they arrange for you to be picked up from hertz and you can leave your rental car there when you pick up your car. It really doesn't get better. read more

My car was broken into and left shattered glass everywhere in the car. I wasn't able to drive it far, so my girlfriend called Don's to see if we could possibly use their Shop Vac as they were just a block away from us. Not only were they kind enough to say yes, but they also had the vac ready to go when we got there, and had a referral to a place that would work with my insurance.
