The bisque soup had no seafood flavor, just potatoes and pepper taste. Don's Dock is a legendary seafood carry out store in Des Plaines. I've eaten here all of my life. Although the store has evolved over the years, always being upgraded into a more refined version of itself, the constant has been the quality of the seafood. It's my number one choice in the country to get fried shrimp dinners. Growing up, my family would come here and buy a couple pounds of shrimp and fries and have an ocean feast at home. The side dishes such as the Cole slaw are quite tasty as well. I've had some of the other fish selections and while they're good, nothing quite comes up to the level of the shrimp. New to the area have driven past it many rimes, finally stoped and got a carry out. This had nothing to do with it being a carry out, we ordered a lobster roll that was on one piece of white bread. The roll/ white bread was ok, had good lobster but little taste. Also had two orders of lobster bisque soup, no taste and very very little lobster. It's lobster month, so we had to come here for some lobster. We ordered a lobster roll, macaroni and cheese with lobster, and clam strips. The employees are very friendly and provide a helping hand with ordering food. We wanted to sit outside due to how cold it was inside, but there's no seats outside.We got our food pretty quickly, and my wife was shivering while she was eating. I have heard great things about this place for years but had never been, so I finally decided to give it a go! The location was about 10 minutes away from my house and easy to spot. They have very few outdoor tables and a fair amount of parking surrounding the building but I can see parking being a challenge on a busy day. All of the seafood here is delicious and fresh and the staff are very friendly. The inside is decked out to a Door County theme and even has some pictures of Don himself as well as his family. I went with a cup of clam chowder and the Maryland crab cake sandwich. Both were perfection! I've been recommending this to my family and friends ever since and will definitely return. read more

Our first time here so We got the clam strips, fried shrimp, hush puppies and lobster roll. (See pictures) the menu is huge it was hard to decide. The fried shrimp was good, hush puppies okay could give Alittle more flavor, clam strips good and the lobster roll not worth the 18.50 it really felt like I was eating lobster Cole slaw, there was way too much Mayonnaise and it was shredder lobster except for a few small chunks on top. I was here on 8/15 for dinner with a friend. It has been 7 years since I had been there, sorry it took so long to come back. We both had the Sea Breeze Citrus Lobster Salad which was delicious. The Johnson family has been fishing commercially on Lake Michigan since the 30's. They've been in the retail seafood business since 1951, and I'm sure happy about that. Located on US Highway 14, in Des Plaines, IL (NW suburban Chicago), the combination market/cafe is open seven days from 9 AM. There used to be a restaurant in my hometown whose slogan was "If it swims, we have it," and while it may not have been precisely true about that place, it sure is apt here. Freshwater and saltwater fish, shellfish, mollusks, and accompaniments are all available, to take home and prepare yourself, or to have the little swimming things cooked in-house and served to you as an entree or snack. I had a hankering for catfish and me mate was craving a genuine New England style lobster roll. We both scored, the cat came with fries and slaw, the toasted roll with chips. Both were excellent in terms of quality, preparation and value. It's a bit of a hike for me, or I'd go more often, and I'd certainly stop by on occasion to pick up some fish or shrimp to take home. If you're visiting in the area, Don's is easy to get to by auto, or on the UP-NW Metra train from downtown Chicago, it's less than 30 minutes and then a four-minute walk from the Des Plaines station. read more

He told me what the most popular item on the menu was, fried shrimp (what a surprise, NOT) Don's Dock is a small seafood restaurant with about 30 seats and a nice sized selection of fried and grilled seafood meals. You can order seafood ala cart or meals. There is also a small selection of fresh seafood you can purchase, take home & cook. It can be very overwhelming making the selection as I love seafood and I wanted everything on the menu. But alas I was limited by my pocketbook so I ended up ordering a lobster roll. After placing your order you grab a seat and wait for your food. While I was waiting I was looking around at their menu board, the variety of sauces, fresh and cooked seafood. The lobster roll was very tasty, but rather small and at almost $18 w/tax a bit too much for the quantity. The lobster roll also came with a bag of chips & Cole slaw in a tiny plastic container.
