Don's TV & Repair is a long time favorite for me, even as it has changed over the years. The drinks are unique and the decor is amazing- no matter where you look or what generation you're from, you will find something that you love. The drink and food specials are what always draw me in, although I've taken people on a whim to just show how cool it is, since some have thought the building is actually a TV & Repair shop! Both bar staff and servers are friendly, food & drinks come out quickly. Still on my list to try someday is the crockpot old fashioned- because nothing says Wisconsin like throwing an old fashioned in a crockpot! Lol A fun place to visit for a night out on the town or if you're looking for an epic deal on food & drinks when they offer specials, which is frequent. Reservations are an option online but I've walked in without & have been able to get in so if you don't want to chance it, make a reservation!
While visiting Milwaukee, we thought we'd try Don's TV & Repair before heading out for the evening. The exterior of the building definitely indicates a repair shop and restaurant. Once inside, the friendly host staff will ask you for the password. Heck, if I can figure it out, anyone can. Then we were shown to the table. The ambiance is certainly 80's feeling with the music and the relics of the era. Even though the menu is limited, the restaurant still offers great options. Riley, server, had greet us shortly after arriving. My friend order an Old Fashion (when you're in WI...) and I had ordered the Shamrock Shake with a shot of whiskey (we visited Milwaukee near St. Paddy's Day). Both of us ordered the Fish Fry. The drinks were delivered within a few minutes. The Shamrock Shake was certainly well worth it. Then few more minutes, the entrees were delivered. The three pieces of fish were very meaty and great crust. The well seasoned fries were very tasty. Riley had checked in couple of times with us. Great service, great food and great 80's music. Enjoy!!
Ambiance was SO COOL! Food was perfect after our long drive from Indiana. The whole concept is awesome and I'd love to bring friends!
Dons TV and Repair is a speakeasy restaurant. We had a reservation and they give you a secret passcode to get in. Inside its very retro nerdy diner. This is definitely a vibes kind of joint. They even had a movie playing on one of the TVs. Our server was great all night and she was very attentive. We got drinks and food. For the food the burger was actually very good. It tasted like it had the perfect amount of greasiness. The "sauce" they put on though doesn't really add flavor. The fries are good and have a certain seasoning that's perfect. It reminds me of lawrys seasoning but slightly different. One of our friends got the crockpot drink and it was a Wisconsin old fashioned and sad it was on the sweeter side but they put a lot of ice so that helped.
Finally made it to Don's TV and repair on a Wed night and it did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation but they kindly allowed us to sit at the bar just to get some milkshakes (so cannot officially speak on their food just yet). Would recommend making a reservation in advance as there can be long wait times. Their boozy Shamrocked mint shake was so amazing and a hefty serving too! Also came with a full sugar cookie topper. My bf enjoyed the game boy milkshake and his Wed dollar burger too. I for sure would like to come back to try more of their food menu and, of course, other milkshake flavors.
Kinda sorta speakeasy with fun burger choices, great milkshake options, and crock pots full of old fashioned mix. What else could you want? It has a sort of 80s tv and movie behind the hidden door in the lobby. There is stuff everywhere, so always something new to look at. Our server was friendly and efficient. Absolutely no complaints. The menu is not huge, so if you aren't into burgers or chicken, This may not be your spot. They do offer a veggie burger and a Friday fish fry, but definitely a burger and fries kinda spot. The tots were awesome. Also 7up stuff everywhere! Fun for a collector for sure.
What a truly unique experience. The dining area is not very big so I would suggest making a reservation beforehand (no deposits needed for holding but there are service charges) the menu has a wide variety to explore and an additional menu for brunch. The food came out in a decent time and our server was very attentive. I personally loved all the old tv memorabilia and nostalgia Knick knacks.
Cool 80s themed speakeasy! Beware: you need to know the password to get in (not telling you here but check the website). They serve up some really great boozy ice cream cocktails, in addition to some good ol classic diner grub. On Wednesdays they do $.99 smash burgers. Yes, you heard right, a burger for $.99. You can double it up for $1.50, and add a few additional toppings. I went with the works (tomato, onion, pickle) which was $1.50, bringing my grand total to $2.50 for a really great burger! To qualify for the offer you only have to get a drink. They have all the drinks, and some fun ones like a Wookie Bloody or my fav: The Opposite Of A Shower Beer: 20 ounces of Plain O' Jane Mimosa served in a bathtub with cool whip "bubbles" & a rubber duck. They also do $.10 martinis on Thursdays! Dons is a great place to take out-of-towners, or for a casual hang with some friends for food and drinks. Solid food, great drinks and a really fun atmosphere!
Let's start with the good - very cool atmosphere, loved the speakeasy vibes. It had a fun feel with the music and decor. The milkshake was amazing & the donut appetizer was yummy. For the things which could improve, we had a reservation for 7:00 and did not get seated until almost 7:25 which would be completely understandable but we were rushed to get our orders in before the kitchen closed. The service staff was stretched thin so were rushing table to table, because of that refills took almost 15 minutes to get to our table. Once again, not the service staffs fault but definitely affected our experience. Burger was okay, nice that they had a gluten free bun option for my fiancé. Overall, the atmosphere & prices were very reasonable but just could use some improvement in the service!
This was a fun outing! We made a reservation for a Saturday night, and we're glad we did because two people walked in after us without one and were told the wait would be 2.5 hours. While we were waiting for our table, the front area/waiting room had some arcade games to play. It sounds like staff sometimes give quarters out to people waiting to play these games, but we didn't receive any. In any case, once your table is ready, staff ask you for the password, you say it, and then your group is brought into their dining area. The dining area felt like an 80s retro diner that was dimly lit, well decorated, small, and tight. Once seated, they describe that a 20% service charge will be added to your final bill, which is also explained on their website. Our food and drinks came out quickly (probably aided by the limited menu). We ordered the crockpot old fashioned to share, which tasted really sweet and not very boozy. The burgers and chicken sandwiches were tasty, but they were a little small. Overall, I think this place is fun to visit, though it feels more catered towards the experience vs. the food/drink itself.
This is a fun and unexpected spot. The retro TV-themed vibe gives the place a playful, nostalgic atmosphere that makes it feel unique. I want to highlight the chicken sandwich -- easily one of the best surprises of the visit. Crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. It's the kind of sandwich you order once and think about getting again. Our service was friendly and the overall experience was great. I'm giving it 4 stars because it is busy at peak times and we felt rushed (we were only there for 45 minutes).
Such a fun experience. Walked in and had a reservation, arrived a few minutes late and asked to wait 5-10 minutes which I was okay with since it did seem quite busy. They do online to go orders plus the dining in experience. I loved all of the decor very nostalgic and fun! The wait for the food was reasonable and well worth the wait. In total we had an oreo shake, salted caramel shake, donut hole basket, cheese curds, bacon burger and a butter burger. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. Definitely have to come back and try a super shake and other items on the menu. I especially enjoyed the cheese curds, they were well seasoned too. I added a few to the burger and I felt like a genius, they paired so well together.
I'm a lifelong Milwaukee native and I'm semi-embarrassed to say that 2025 was the first time I ever experienced Don's TV & Repair. My in-laws were in town and we decided to take them somewhere iconic. I'll vaguely say that upon entry into the place, it's somewhat similar to another iconic Milwaukee experience -- where you have to work your way in with a little knowledge/password action. We got in. The decor is super cool. Old game systems and old TVs everywhere. It's a fun, retro look that's a hoot. We all had a good experience. Food was good in that classic breakfast diner model. I had the breakfast burrito. They did wind up messing up one of my family's order and it took quite awhile for it to come out. I did appreciate how attentive our server was about it though -- he repeatedly kept going back to see what the issue was. Overall, am glad I finally made it to experience this one-of-a-kind experience.

TikTok made us do it, and we just had to get a reservation! I have never been to a speakeasy before, so needing a password and everything just to get inside was such a fun experience. Plus, a 1:30 pm brunch reservation is definitely my kind of brunch. The atmosphere inside is awesome, with old school TVs with built in VCRs lining the walls. Our server was very attentive and super helpful in showing us the new menu. He even promised satisfaction with our Hawaiian roll cinnamon bun or he would get us something different, which was so nice of him! We came specifically to try the Dad's 2 cents Weekend Brunch. That is right, 2 cents! What a deal for a can of Spotted Cow. Just a heads up for anyone going, don't forget that you have to buy an entree to qualify for the beer special! As for the rest of our order, my wife got the Salted Caramel shake. She said it was a little too sweet with loads of whip cream, but she really liked the Hawaiian roll cinnamon buns. We split the Fried Chicken & Old Fashioned Gravy Buns. It was good, not amazing, but the vibes and the drink specials totally make up for it. Someone else in our family got the brunch burger and it looked amazing! Bottom line: come for the atmosphere and drink specials, not necessarily the food, but we still enjoyed it lots. Next time I am definitely going to try a smasher, maybe on a 99 cents Wednesday smashburger special! read more
After wanting to try Don's for ages, I finally went for brunch with my spouse and some friends. People think of this place as a pure burger joint, but they do have a few notable vegetarian offerings, both sweet and savory. We knew the password since I read a lot, plus we made a reservation and they tell you if you do. We were the second table seated in the main dining area. We sat in the Gremlin section - the whole place is a nod to 80s pop culture, with memorabilia and big screen projections of stuff like Scooby Doo and the Power Rangers. Star Wars fans will also like it here. Our service was friendly, Isabel took good care of our group. I had a mimosa to start and it was good, but not huge. They have a 2 cent beer special at brunch where you can get up to 3 Spotted Cows with each entree purchased - a bargain for sure! They also have a martini special - go to the website for details. We started with the churro doughnut holes - decadent and so, so, soooo sweet, served with whipped cream with jimmies. They were good, but not for the sweet intolerant. I had the house vegetarian breakfast burrito with bespoke veggie sausage, It was huge and good, a comfort food for sure, but no one flavor stood out in it. It was sort of generic comfort, like a hug from an acquaintance. Spouse had a new dish to the menu - chilequilies with pulled pork. He really enjoyed the dish, finishing the whole generous portion pretty quickly. Our friends had variations on breakfast sandwiches - chicken with gravy and the big breakfast sandwich, which they seemed to enjoy quite a bit. They definitely wanted to return. I hear that the tots were good. I enjoyed the place and would certainly come back if there wasn't so much competition in the market. Everything was solid, just not as special as the locale promises. You won't be sad you ate here. And the theme is fun. read more
What a fun time! Service was great, and such fun nostalgic decor!!! Get the tots if you're a fan. Also, the cheese curds are to die for. I got the original chicken sammie w tots and the 2 cent beer special (came on a Sunday and you just can't beat getting a can of Spotted Cow for two cents!) Hubs and daughter split a smash cheeseburger and fries and my daughter liked it so much, she wanted another, all to herself. We got milkshakes to go for the kiddos. Fabulous. We went here for their 99 cent burger Wednesday! The vibe inside is a lot of fun. I felt like I was in the 80s and all of the servers were really great about keeping up with the secretiveness. The burger was definitely a "99 cent" burger (not super flavorful), but I am not complaining. The shakes were really good too. read more

A must see when you visit Milwaukee Fun experience and great wait staff A bit more spendy than I expected, but worth the visit for certain. Lots of fun things to look at and that's just getting in the door itself. If you are a 90's kinda gal. You won't want to miss this hidden gem. I had not been to Don's since before the pandemic. They have changed several things since then including you now need a "password" to get in. This was a big hit with my 10 year old nephew in town for the weekend. We were lucky enough to be there on 99 cent burger night - for less than a dollar you get a plain burger you can add toppings for a few bucks more. It made the evening very affordable. The burgers felt nostalgic, my sister said they tasted like the 90's and I can't tell you what that means precisely but I totally agree. The fries were tasty and our little one loved the chicken nuggets. Service is speedy - since there is a very limited menu they really have an efficient system to take orders and get you food quickly. The decor felt somewhat 50's diner with a 80's/90's movie & tv theme. It was a very fun place to be with kids. And of course the milkshakes are the show stoppers. You can get them boozy or just plain sweet. Either way they were a hit with both of older and younger members of our party. We'll be back, likely to celebrate kid birthdays as they loved everything about Don's! read more

We loved our experience at Don's!! We got onion rings, chicken tenders, and cheese curds to start - all were excellent and served piping hot. Four of us shared the crockpot old fashioned which was so fun. Everyone really enjoyed their burgers and the shakes were outstanding! The funky 90s atmosphere is so fun. We did not try the food, we did however have a drink at this super fun place!! Had no idea it was a secret entrance kind of thing when we walked in. The host asked if we knew the password and we were clueless. She gave us a great hint and we were on our way in!! The decor is so fun and very nostalgic if you're of that age group! Love the gremlins!!!! And all the old tvs! My boyfriend had the Fix Me Old Fashioned, which was great! I don't really like old fashion drinks but this was new and exciting. I tried "I'd just as soon Kiss A Wookie" which came in a cute glass and I slurped it up it so was yummy!! The vibe was so on point. The other people in the place were just as excited as we were to be there. This is a place everyone should give a shot! read more

I've been wanting to try Don's since before we moved out of Milwaukee, but just weren't able to until recently when my friends and I were back in town for a wedding. We made reservations for brunch for seven of us and it was easy peasy! As a speakeasy, when you first walk in, it looks like a very small repair shop, but has some arcade games for you to play on while you wait for your table. After we checked in, there was a couple minutes of wait time and the staff gave us some quarters for the games, which was a nice touch! The inside definitely has speakeasy diner vibes. It's kitschy and a bit random, with many Star Wars artifacts. For our meal, my husband and I shared the Opposite of a Shower Beer, which is basically a mimosa in a plastic bathtub with a rubber ducky and cool whip topping. The mimosa was fairly standard, but the presentation was so fun, everyone at our table got a kick out of it. We got the bourbon donut holes and the cheese curds for the table and both were a hit. My husband and I shared the fruity pebbles waffles and the veggie breakfast burrito. The burrito was excellent!!! Well made and delicious, I highly recommend. The waffles were also very good - not super overpowering with the fruity pebbles but enough to get the taste. Our server was great despite us being a large group. WARNING: No alcohol served in January I went to Don's with a group of six girls to kick off our annual brunch/day-drinking tradition. We were extremely surprised to discover that the entire menu was alcohol-free. At first, we thought it was a joke, but when we tried to order a Bloody Mary, we were told alcohol was not being served at all. I'm not sure whether this was a questionable business decision for a speakeasy or if they lost their liquor license, but either way, the lack of transparency was frustrating. This was not advertised anywhere prior to our visit. We checked the website and made a reservation, and at no point were we informed that alcohol would not be available. In fact, the website still advertised 10-cent martinis, and the online menu included alcoholic drinks. We debated leaving but decided to stay and give the food a chance. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was bland and lacking flavor. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to misleading information and underwhelming food. read more

Loved it! Quirky, funky, and quite tasty. Burgers, fries, and shakes. That is the basics... A few beers, boozy shakes, and some sides round out the menu. Burgers are old school diner style. I added tomatoes and pickles. So good... Cheese curds were great as were the fries. Ambiance is super fun. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Loved it! read more

Came here on a Wednesday night with no reservation. The waiting area was very busy starting at 7pm. We waited for 30 minutes before being sat at the bar. The ambiance was 80s retro with midwest dive charm. It was 99¢ burger night where you get a drink and you pay 50¢-$2 for additional toppings like pickles, cheese, etc. The milkshakes were $7.99 and we decided to not get the sprinkle and frosting rim but they do always come with that! Since we sat at the bar we got to chat with the bartender who was very nice & friendly even though it was very busy the Wednesday before thanksgiving. Yes, it's different. It starts the moment you walk in. They make you wait 10-15 minutes on purpose...it's supposed to be part of the charm. They have a few arcade games in their entryway and kindly give you a dollars with of quarters to play. My son and I dueled it out in a game of Mrs. Pac Man. When they're ready to seat you, they ask for the secret password. My wife overheard someone else give it while we were playing the game, otherwise some other hijinks would have ensued, I'm sure. The restaurant is small, and I was surprised by a lack of people on a Saturday. The main area where we sat featured tv's in back of us with a row of VHS cassettes that could be played. I popped in 'Trading Places' but the picture was so bad that it could have sent folks into epileptic fit. Food-wise, well..not the best. They have a handful of burgers, a couple chicken sandwiches, and several breakfast combos. None of those sounded tempting so I got a fancy caramel milkshake and some donuts as an app for all of us to share. In back of us was a bar which was Star Wars themed...very cool. The kids who work here are nice and try to keep things fun. Beyond the cheap thrills of the place though, I dare say a return trip would not be in the cards. One thing to watch out for, they automatically add a 'service fee' to your bill. THIS IS THE TIP, so be mindful not to give another 15%+ unless you really want to be crazy generous. Cheers. read more
