While visiting Milwaukee, we thought we'd try Don's TV & Repair before heading out for the evening. The exterior of the building definitely indicates a repair shop and restaurant. Once inside, the friendly host staff will ask you for the password. Heck, if I can figure it out, anyone can. Then we were shown to the table. The ambiance is certainly 80's feeling with the music and the relics of the era. Even though the menu is limited, the restaurant still offers great options. Riley, server, had greet us shortly after arriving. My friend order an Old Fashion (when you're in WI...) and I had ordered the Shamrock Shake with a shot of whiskey (we visited Milwaukee near St. Paddy's Day). Both of us ordered the Fish Fry. The drinks were delivered within a few minutes. The Shamrock Shake was certainly well worth it. Then few more minutes, the entrees were delivered. The three pieces of fish were very meaty and great crust. The well seasoned fries were very tasty. Riley had checked in couple of times with us. Great service, great food and great 80's music. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I saw this in a Weird Wisconsin book and it looked fun and right up our alley. I did see that you needed a reservation especially on the weekend. We got a 1pm time slot for lunch on Saturday. We waited in the small crowded lobby once we checked in. Once our time came up we gave the password (I must have missed this part but I googled it while we waited) and were led inside. The concept was fun as was the decor but I thought it would be even more kitschy than it was. Our waiter was enthusiastic. The food menu is small but the milkshake and the boozy milkshake menu is big and interesting. The salted caramel milkshake was very good. I got their smash burger basket with the fries. I don't order smash burgers often and this was a reminder why. It was overcooked and dry. The fries though were excellent. My wife got a breakfast meal and she thought it was solid. The prices were reasonable but be warned they automatically tack on a 20% service charge. I was not surprised since I saw this in reviews. If it was on the menu I missed it. They even had a movie playing on one of the TVs. Our server was great all night and she was very attentive. We got drinks and food. For the food the burger was actually very good. It tasted like it had the perfect amount of greasiness. The "sauce" they put on though doesn't really add flavor. The fries are good and have a certain seasoning that's perfect. It reminds me of lawrys seasoning but slightly different. What a truly unique experience. The dining area is not very big so I would suggest making a reservation beforehand (no deposits needed for holding but there are service charges) the menu has a wide variety to explore and an additional menu for brunch. We did not have a reservation but they kindly allowed us to sit at the bar just to get some milkshakes (so cannot officially speak on their food just yet). Would recommend making a reservation in advance as there can be long wait times. Their boozy Shamrocked mint shake was so amazing and a hefty serving too! Also came with a full sugar cookie topper. We went on a Wednesday which is a $.99 hamburger day however there is a catch for each $.99 hamburger you had to have a at least five dollar or more drink per hamburger. Cool 80s themed speakeasy! Beware: you need to know the password to get in (not telling you here but check the website). They serve up some really great boozy ice cream cocktails, in addition to some good ol classic diner grub. On Wednesdays they do $.99 smash burgers. Yes, you heard right, a burger for $.99. You can double it up for $1.50, and add a few additional toppings. I went with the works (tomato, onion, pickle) which was $1.50, bringing my grand total to $2.50 for a really great burger! To qualify for the offer you only have to get a drink. They have all the drinks, and some fun ones like a Wookie Bloody or my fav: The Opposite Of A Shower Beer: 20 ounces of Plain O' Jane Mimosa served in a bathtub with cool whip "bubbles" & a rubber duck. This was a fun outing! We made a reservation for a Saturday night, and we're glad we did because two people walked in after us without one and were told the wait would be 2.5 hours. While we were waiting for our table, the front area/waiting room had some arcade games to play. It sounds like staff sometimes give quarters out to people waiting to play these games, but we didn't receive any. In any case, once your table is ready, staff ask you for the password, you say it, and then your group is brought into their dining area. The dining area felt like an 80s retro diner that was dimly lit, well decorated, small, and tight. Once seated, they describe that a 20% service charge will be added to your final bill, which is also explained on their website. Our food and drinks came out quickly (probably aided by the limited menu). We ordered the crockpot old fashioned to share, which tasted really sweet and not very boozy. The burgers and chicken sandwiches were tasty, but they were a little small. Such a fun experience. Walked in and had a reservation, arrived a few minutes late and asked to wait 5-10 minutes which I was okay with since it did seem quite busy. I'm a lifelong Milwaukee native and I'm semi-embarrassed to say that 2025 was the first time I ever experienced Don's TV & Repair. My in-laws were in town and we decided to take them somewhere iconic. I'll vaguely say that upon entry into the place, it's somewhat similar to another iconic Milwaukee experience -- where you have to work your way in with a little knowledge/password action. We got in. The decor is super cool. Old game systems and old TVs everywhere. It's a fun, retro look that's a hoot. We all had a good experience. Food was good in that classic breakfast diner model. I had the breakfast burrito. They did wind up messing up one of my family's order and it took quite awhile for it to come out. I did appreciate how attentive our server was about it though -- he repeatedly kept going back to see what the issue was. Super fun, super cute, I could see myself coming back for sure (most likely for a brunch). Service was friendly and helpful and just downright delightful, the kind that feels comfortable, almost like when you meet your girlfriend's cousin and the cousin's soon to be husband, and everyone's like "hey, turns out we vibe" and you feel taken care of in the best way. Speaking of vibes, it's here in spades. The decor, the Power Rangers on the projector, the milkshake machine mixing away. It's a lovely little escape. Food was good. I can't and won't eat like this every day, but both the burger and chicken sandwich were devoured, fries were great, and one shake was more than enough for a cute, lovely couple. That said, the menu is minute, hence my eagerness to return for brunch. WARNING: No alcohol served in January I went to Don's with a group of six girls to kick off our annual brunch/day-drinking tradition. We were extremely surprised to discover that the entire menu was alcohol-free. At first, we thought it was a joke, but when we tried to order a Bloody Mary, we were told alcohol was not being served at all. I'm not sure whether this was a questionable business decision for a speakeasy or if they lost their liquor license, but either way, the lack of transparency was frustrating. This was not advertised anywhere prior to our visit. We checked the website and made a reservation, and at no point were we informed that alcohol would not be available. In fact, the website still advertised 10-cent martinis, and the online menu included alcoholic drinks. We debated leaving but decided to stay and give the food a chance. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was bland and lacking flavor. I had not been to Don's since before the pandemic. They have changed several things since then including you now need a "password" to get in. This was a big hit with my 10 year old nephew in town for the weekend. We were lucky enough to be there on 99 cent burger night - for less than a dollar you get a plain burger you can add toppings for a few bucks more. It made the evening very affordable. The burgers felt nostalgic, my sister said they tasted like the 90's and I can't tell you what that means precisely but I totally agree. The fries were tasty and our little one loved the chicken nuggets. Service is speedy - since there is a very limited menu they really have an efficient system to take orders and get you food quickly. The decor felt somewhat 50's diner with a 80's/90's movie & tv theme. It was a very fun place to be with kids. And of course the milkshakes are the show stoppers. You can get them boozy or just plain sweet. Either way they were a hit with both of older and younger members of our party. I've been wanting to try Don's since before we moved out of Milwaukee, but just weren't able to until recently when my friends and I were back in town for a wedding. We made reservations for brunch for seven of us and it was easy peasy! As a speakeasy, when you first walk in, it looks like a very small repair shop, but has some arcade games for you to play on while you wait for your table. After we checked in, there was a couple minutes of wait time and the staff gave us some quarters for the games, which was a nice touch! The inside definitely has speakeasy diner vibes. It's kitschy and a bit random, with many Star Wars artifacts. For our meal, my husband and I shared the Opposite of a Shower Beer, which is basically a mimosa in a plastic bathtub with a rubber ducky and cool whip topping. The mimosa was fairly standard, but the presentation was so fun, everyone at our table got a kick out of it. We got the bourbon donut holes and the cheese curds for the table and both were a hit. The ambiance was 80s retro with midwest dive charm. It was 99¢ burger night where you get a drink and you pay 50¢-$2 for additional toppings like pickles, cheese, etc. The milkshakes were $7.99 and we decided to not get the sprinkle and frosting rim but they do always come with that! Yes, it's different. It starts the moment you walk in. They make you wait 10-15 minutes on purpose...it's supposed to be part of the charm. They have a few arcade games in their entryway and kindly give you a dollars with of quarters to play. My son and I dueled it out in a game of Mrs. Pac Man. When they're ready to seat you, they ask for the secret password. My wife overheard someone else give it while we were playing the game, otherwise some other hijinks would have ensued, I'm sure. The restaurant is small, and I was surprised by a lack of people on a Saturday. The main area where we sat featured tv's in back of us with a row of VHS cassettes that could be played. I popped in 'Trading Places' but the picture was so bad that it could have sent folks into epileptic fit. Food-wise, well..not the best. They have a handful of burgers, a couple chicken sandwiches, and several breakfast combos. None of those sounded tempting so I got a fancy caramel milkshake and some donuts as an app for all of us to share. In back of us was a bar which was Star Wars themed...very cool. The kids who work here are nice and try to keep things fun. Beyond the cheap thrills of the place though, I dare say a return trip would not be in the cards. One thing to watch out for, they automatically add a 'service fee' to your bill. THIS IS THE TIP, so be mindful not to give another 15%+ unless you really want to be crazy generous. Let's start with the good - very cool atmosphere, loved the speakeasy vibes. It had a fun feel with the music and decor. The milkshake was amazing & the donut appetizer was yummy. For the things which could improve, we had a reservation for 7:00 and did not get seated until almost 7:25 which would be completely understandable but we were rushed to get our orders in before the kitchen closed. The service staff was stretched thin so were rushing table to table, because of that refills took almost 15 minutes to get to our table. We took advantage of the free burger with any drink special, and ordered two orders of tots to share. Drinks were all over the place, from simple iced tea to a Game Boy and Yoshi's Cookie, to my Margarita in a cactus, and my husband's Old Fashioned in a small crock pot, just to name a few! We all opted for Naughty Angel burgers and modified them to our own particular tastes. We were celebrating a marriage and a small family reunion, and our server brought us complimentary baskets of donut holes with a delicious dipping sauce to help us celebrate....very sweet and appreciated! My friend and I shared the onion rings, which were nicely seasoned and had a good ratio of batter to onion. I ordered the Birria Breakfast Burrito and a side of horseradish potato pancakes. The burrito is stuffed with beef birria, scrambled eggs, caramelized onions, tater tots, and served with a beef broth and sour cream. It was delicious and massive! I ate half and enjoyed the other half for lunch the next day. The horseradish potato pancakes were well-balanced and cooked perfectly. They were also a great pairing for the the beef birria. Yes they have fun mimosas in a plastic tub and bloody Marys in a tiki glass but their breakfast is nothing to shout about. I got scrambled eggs with tater tots and toast. The tots were salt. What a fun little place with a great Nostalgic vibe this hidden spot is. One you enter you go into a waiting area that has arcade games and other nostalgic items which took me back to my childhood. When you are first walk in you have to use the secret password "ice cold 7up". Then you'll get to enter the secret door into the restaurant. There is also another area with a bar. Just outside of the room there is a tab pulling machine for purchasing if you wish. We ordered serval items off the menu to try: Hot Chicken Sammy my son added it needed extra ranch, Birria Breakfast Burrito was delicious perfect amount of all ingredients that made this item the best menu item we ordered, the Naughty Brunch Burger was tasty. In addition we ordered the Bourbon donuts I felt were ok ... my hubby said good. Last, we order the Browsers Brownie Shake. Our server was kind and knowledgeable. Our food came out fast and was hot. We were not told that the bill already includes the gratuity is included at 20%. If not looking at the bill you'd over tip. No difference in price of the shake with or without alcohol.
