The closer I get to Thousand Oaks on my morning commute, the more frequently I glance at the clock on my car radio. Were the traffic gods working in my favour that day? Am I going to have those precious 4 extra minutes to pass by the Donut Depot? When I do make it, I almost always pick up a blueberry and cream cheese croissant. This is a croissant of the super greasy, somewhat doughy variety, so don't expect anything fancy at all. In fact, I love it because it's so not fancy and tastes so bad for you that it's delicious. They also have croissants with various combinations of ham, cheese, eggs and sausage in them, but I don't think I've tried any of those. The donuts don't disappoint. I always grab a dozen donut holes to share with my coworkers. For my own consumption, I lean towards the more cinnamon-y ones, like the coffee roll or the apple fritter. Oh, the apple fritter. Also so sweet and heavy that you know it can't be good for you. It usually takes me a few hours to get through one of those. They also have muffins which are quite good. The best part? You usually approach the counter thinking you got a ton of donuts which will cost a lot, but are always pleasantly surprised by how little you actually pay. I give this place a 3-star because they are open hours that your average shop is not and still have decently fresh doughnuts. Usually the cravings happen at times when places are closed, of course. Just sitting here, enjoying a dense, yeasty croissant and decided that I needed to give Donut Depot the credit it deserves. Being very picky about my food, and not a particular fan of donuts, this place is making me happy. Their goods are fresh, huge, and most importantly to me, not overly sweet. I love their croissants with ham and cheese, with chocolate chips, or plain to be loaded with tuna salad. They are substantial and delicious, and the owners could not be nicer. So happy that they have such a loyal customer base. OK, just finished the croissant and moved on to the cronut, yes CRONUT, a hybrid between a donut and a croissant and boy, this is addictively yummy!!! My experience with Donut Depot was extremely disappointing today. I bought donuts ($12.00) along with a large cup of coffee ($1.50). When I told the counterperson (female, possibly the owner) that I wanted decaf coffee, she said that she would have to charge me for it because I did not ask for decaf (she never asked if I wanted reg or decaf). Further, she told me that she would have taken the coffee back if I hadn't put cream in it because she could add it back into the pot of coffee. Talk about cheap and unprofessional. I think it is a health violation to do such!?!? So I gave back the donuts and got a refund ( I didn't open the donuts). The look on her face was classic! She lost the sale, prompted me to join Yelp to give a negative review, and the return business - for a CUP of coffee. Not business savvy. P.S. They charge .10 for the flavored creamers - EACH! Did I mention they are cheap? Eateries that are cheap cut corners (i.e. pouring served coffee back in the pot). If the owner/worker gets anything out of this review, it is - Don't tell customers you pour back served coffee! read more

Well I was on my way to work and all of a sudden had a donut craving.Ah man I was already at next to work and far down the road from my favorite donut shop on the Blvd. So since it is within walking distance to work I decided to try Donut Depot. At 10:28 on a Saturday they weren't as fresh as I could have gotten further down the street. I was surprised at their prices as I am used to a Cinnamon bun significantly larger than the one I saw before me. I normally pay 55 cents less for the larger one. The custard filled donut was also 55 more than what I would normally pay. I figured ok this is closer and ooooh they have Boba Smoothies here! Well smoothie is made with powder, I did not see any fruit.... I am sort of ok with that accept that it was overly sweet. The Boba was a great consistency. This is a really great donut shop! I started coming here because my coworkers were always coming back with Thai Teas. I started trying them and love it! They also have Boba but Ive never tried it - my coworkers love it. Also someone recommended the breakfast croissants--- so good! They have egg and cheese plus bacon or sausage or jalapeño. Its shaped like a pocket and big enough for breakfast. Also the donuts are great and always fresh. They even have cronuts!!! (Round donuts made of flaky croissant).
