Donut Drop is a hidden gem tucked away in an old strip mall along Algonquin Rd. It's a family owned business that churns out super quality donuts at honestly a really reasonable price. I usually just place a pre-order the day before, and it's always a quick and easy process to pick up the next day. It's best to order ahead or go early because it's slim pickins by 10am. They have a lot of different varieties of donuts, and it could be hard to choose which ones to get. While a lot of their yeast donuts look pretty with the different toppings and icings, I personally think their best donuts are the plain glazed cake donuts. At first I gravitated toward unique flavors like mud pie, Nutella smores, fruity pebbles, maple bacon, etc., but I thought their yeast donuts were just ok. The real sleepers are the glazed cake varieties. They may look ordinary, but the glazed cake donuts have that perfectly light crisp on the outside and just a moist, dense, crumbly texture inside. The richness and balanced sweetness of the donut are absolutely perfect. I would have no problem getting and entire dozen of just glazed buttermilk and glazed old fashioned donuts. Those two are hands down my favorite donuts at Donut Drop. Somehow they don't dry out even by the 2nd or 3rd day, and maintain that amazing flavor. Outside of those two, one of the main reasons Donut Drop even got on my radar was because they are one of the few places that offer Ube donuts. A lot of times Ube flavored things look great from that deep purple color, but they sometimes don't actually pack that Ube flavored punch that I'm looking for. After taking my first bite of the Ube donuts at Donut Drop, I paused in disbelief because they totally nailed the flavor. It had a more intense Ube flavor than Gurnee Donuts and actually maintained that flavor over a few days. The Ube donuts are considered a specialty donut and you have to order a dozen at a time if you're trying to make a pre-order in the off-season. You can't just order a single Ube donut along with a regular dozen (apparently you can in the summer though). Otherwise, you can take your chances and hope they have a few extras just sitting on the racks and just order when you get there. They have glazed, toasted coconut, and ice variations. Surprisingly the regular glazed Ube is my favorite of the three because it has that pure unfiltered ube flavor with no distractions. Overall, Donut drop is definitely worth the trip, and I actually like it better than some of the more popular spots like Stan's. When it comes to Ube donuts, they're far superior than Gurnee Donuts and way closer too. read more

Soft, fresh, airy, and light. This is the best way to describe the delectable donuts from Donut Drop. It is located in a quite unassuming area, but don't overlook this shop. It makes some of the best donuts around! We got a dozen donuts so we could sample a lot of their different flavors. When we arrived on Saturday morning, the donuts were pretty much wiped out. That's how you know this place is good. We were able to snag apple cider, gingerbread (seasonal?), original glazed, red velvet, lemon, mud pie (salty and sweet), boston creme, coconut, fruity pebbles, maple bacon, and smores nutella. Definitely recommend the smores nutella as it was easily the best bite of the day. Torched marshmallow was pooled on top of a nutella filled donut. The torched marshmallow really added a nice smoky flavor to the donut that I thoroughly enjoyed. These donuts are extremely soft and fluffy. They are light to eat and not too sweet. The dough itself is nice and buttery, which gave it a different taste and its soft texture. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you want quality donuts for a low price. I was told that the owners start making and rolling the dough at 2 AM to make their donuts the way they are. That is commitment and I am happy to support this local business! read more

We ordered the Croissant stuffed with Cream Cheese Icing, Strawberry Sprinkles, Chocolate Sprinkles, Lemon, Old Fashioned Blueberry Cake (2), Old Fashioned Red Velvet and Donut stuffed Banana Pudding. Unfortunately, as others have mentioned -- the donuts aren't labeled so it is a little difficult to provide captions after the fact. The good news it that every donut I've tried is good, so you're really not taking much of a risk with anything you try. I like how everything here is kept simple -- just clear divisions between cake donuts and yeast donuts. Each with a clear theme and great textures that match their respective categories. The donuts are a bit on the pricier side (in-line with Spunky Dunkers), but the quality justifies a slightly higher price (if you look at the satisfaction value per dollar, this is in fact cheaper than some other chain donut shops). Other than no labeling, the only other major flaw is that there is some inconsistency in the size and sometimes shape of each donut. But both of these issues are not big enough to detract from the fact that they make great donuts here. Definitely give this place a visit if you're around the area (they're only open 8 am - 2 pm on weekends and only till 4 pm on weekdays so you may have to wake up a little early one of these mornings). You'll definitely taste the freshness and extra care put into these smaller batches of donuts. read more

We go out of our way for these donuts. Yes they sell out fast, because THEY ARE GOOD. Get there early! If they are closed the sold out. This place is clean, friendly, and amazing. I am a big fan of freshly made Donuts. I remember back in the day watching the commercial of the man saying 'time to make the donuts.' Nowadays we see donuts delivered as a frozen product which is then iced at the location. How is that quality and fresh? That is why I enjoy this Donut Drop. What you see is what they have. So if there is something you like, I would suggest get there early, otherwise it's slim pick'ns near closing time (That's a Good Thing). My favorite is the Strawberry glaze donut. The donut is light and fluffy with the glaze not too overly sweet. It's a nice small quaint place that has several tables for you to enjoy your donut and your choice of beverage. They old fashion is melt in your mouth delicious but I've also never had a bad donut here! Plus, it's cheaper than Dunkin and about 10,000 times better. Im a donut snob, and pretty much hate all donuts. I was blown away today. This donut shop was highly recommend to me by a fellow Yelper (thanks Justine!). I drive past Donut Drop everyday as I leave Harper College and head to work, today was the day I decided to give Donut Drop a shot. When I walked in today at 9:05am it was totally dead, aside from the lady working I was the only one in the shop. I was kind of surprised no one was in shopping for donuts early in the morning. I explained to the lady working there that it was my first time and I wanted a dozen donuts. She kindly made suggestions and helped me make difficult decisions. Everyone at the office loved my donuts, it was a hit, including myself. I loved the chocolate donut I had. It was thick, cake-like and chocolaty. I will return for more office treats! We stopped in twice as to try different donuts in the selection lineup they have. It's a nice little shop and the owners are very friendly. The raised donuts are very good. The filled donuts we had on both occasions didn't have much filling. While the fillings, cream and custard are delicious, they need to increase the filling as they are charging $1.50 per donut and not worth it. The cake donuts need improvement as they are too small and the flavoring of the blueberry through the donut tasted like the filling used for the filled donuts leaving them a little gummy. Glaze and chocolate topping are really good and applied nicely. The toasted coconut donut at other shops have the coconut encompass the entire donut. At this shop it's only on the top. Old fashioned glazed donuts were ok but were a little dry. Kudos as none of the donuts were oily or left any greasy residue in the box. This is a nice shop and with improvements and tweaks could be a real winner! read more
