Delicious donuts! My favorites are the vanilla bean, brown butter and chocolate sprinkle. I'm not brave enough to try the avocado or the bacon maple but I hear they are darn good too! These donuts are fun, creative, colorful and scrumptious. Bring them to a party, have one for breakfast, share with a friend or take to the office! We came here the morning we left Maui, and I wish we had gone sooner! I love donuts, and I can be picky -- I don't like anything greasy or too sweet -- and these donuts are wonderful. These are raised donuts, and I tried the Molokai Sweet Potato Poi, Brown Butter, and Cinnamon Toasty Crunchy. All of them were fantastic. It's worth going early so that you get the best selection of flavors! FYI, there isn't any seating at this location, and there are only a few parking spots out front. read more

By far my favorite donut shop! Everyone is super friendly which matters especially at 7am on a Monday! I've tried so many creations but my number one go to is the Mexican chocolate donut. We showed up at 8:15 am on a Wednesday with our kids. Unfortunately that's too late to get much of a selection of donuts. There were five flavors left so we got one of each. The bacon maple was my fav. Chopped bacon on it instead of strips which is exactly how it should be. The cinnamon sticky bun was my daughter's favorite and one of mine as well. The coconut cream was my wife's fav and it was very good. The cream was super smooth and not over sweet. The lilikoi cream was good but very tart and not really sweet. The sugar on the outside of the donut helped offset it but the cream was so tart the kids wouldn't eat it. The Oh'reo was just ok. There was a to. Of other donuts on the daily menu but alas, we were too late. If we go back we'll call ahead TIP: they post the daily menu online at around 7am. Seriously, these are the best donuts I have ever experienced. My wife and I went in this morning and the girl running the joint gave us the low down on the profile of each donut. Her knowledge and passion for her food is awesome and got us stoked to try the creative flavor profiles. We ended up getting the miso honey (my favorite), the mango poi, brown butter, and samoa. We are still saving the Samoa and brown butter for dessert, but the two we had this morning were phenomenal. The dough was a brioche dough, which I have never experienced as a doughnut base before. It was flipping great. We have a bunch of foodie donut places popping up all over SoCal right now, but nothing like this. They are trendy places plopping funky toppings on basic donuts. On a recent Saturday, we decided to try as many malasadas as we could while on Maui. While all the malasadas we had were good (I mean, what's not to like?), the lilikoi malasada at Donut Dynamite was easily the best malasada we've had in all of Hawaii, or anywhere. The brioche bread was light and airy, but still sturdy enough to handle the filling. And about that filling: perfectly balanced - a little bit sweet, with a hint of tartness, just like lilikoi should taste. Also, you know how sometimes, you get a filled donut and you have to go searching for the filling, and when you find it, it seems like there's maybe a teaspoon of it? Not with this malasada. The proportion of filling to bread was A+++. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than most other malasadas, but it's worth every penny. read more

3.5 stars! I heard a lot of good things about the donuts here, from the time they were sold at the Swap Meet until they got their own business in Wailuku. After discovering their business on L. Main Street, in the building the manapua shop used to be at, I figured I had to try them out. The first visit, which was about a week after they opened, everyday I passed, the 4 or 5 parking stalls out front were always filled and after actually finding parking and going in, was told they had sold out and there was a half hour wait for fresh donuts. Not to be deterred, I left, but vowed to be back! I did try to call to order their malasadas, which I've heard was delicious, but my call was answered by a voicemail and my call was never returned. Bummer! Really wanted to try them! About 2 weeks after their opening, though, I noticed the crowd had somewhat subsided and I stopped in to see what they had. Luckily, they had a couple of trays of donuts on the shelf, stored out in the open air without their lids on. Although they were behind the counter, I wondered if that was their normal way of storing their product. Anywho, I decided to try one each of 3 different types of donuts: - Vanilla bean - Gimme S'more - Brown butter At $4.00 each, the very pleasant owner grabbed a huge box to place them in for me. I appreciated the gesture, as she could have easily placed them in a brown package and I would not have complained! But, figuring I didn't want the 3 donuts to be lonely in there, I asked her to make it 2 of each instead. So I left with 6 donuts in a half sheet cake sized box, which made passersby jealous, I'm sure, for $24 plus tax. I shared these artisan delights with my co-workers, who seemed to like them, but they did not quite finish the whole donut. When I tried it, although it was much better than the donuts from Zombie Coffee and Donuts (see my previous review) in Washington D.C., it wasn't for me, sorry. The donut was slightly dry and the toppings too sweet. Kind of bummed, since I had 2 of each and didn't know what to do with the rest. I did taste the other 2 flavors, but believe it or not, did not finish them all. First time that I haven't actually finished a donut when it was staring me in the face! They weren't horrible, but they weren't for me. Maybe I'm more the Krispy Kreme type guy, who enjoys a moist, not overly sweet donut, but I have to say I must pass on Donut Dynamite. Regarding their business, I like how they write on their store windows to alert passersby if they are open or if they have sold out. I do vow to be back for their malasadas one day and will write an update when I do! read more

I try to eat gluten-free, but when it comes to donuts, I can be easily swayed. My friends rave about these donuts and I've always wanted to try one, so after running a 5K with said friends yesterday, we decided to reward ourselves with some sweet treats. These donuts; they're the real deal. We drove to their little shop in Wailuku, and went inside. There was a constant flow of customers the entire time we were there and that just speaks volumes about the delicious goodness they're putting out into this world! Donuts are $4 each which is a little pricey, but they're worth it. We ended up ordering 8 donuts between us, which was $32. When I went to the register to pay, the cashier explained that for $1 more, I could get a full dozen, so OF COURSE I bought a full dozen! We ordered the Lilikoi malasada, Miso Honey, S'mores, Samoa, Vanilla Bean, Brown Butter, Maple Bacon, Salted Caramel and a cinnamon apple toast crunch (can't remember the actual name for that one). ***The Lilikoi malasada was a bit much; it had almost too much filling in it, but here's a tip: take some of that filling, spread a little bit on top of the vanilla bean donut and HEAR THE ANGELS SING. The closing time written doesn't necessarily mean that's when they're closing. They close when they sell out,so it could be earlier. It's definitely a place you don't want to go to when you're hungry because you will want 1 of everything. I don't really have a favorite as they have all been really good. Staff is very helpful & patient as I always have a hard time deciding which ones I want. I'm sure I'm not the only one with that problem. The only thing is parking, you definitely have to make sure you are going with the traffic as you turn in otherwise it can be a bit difficult to turn as it is a somewhat busy road. read more

Few prepare an artisanal dough mix of Dynamite's quality. Fewer still top their raised with chocolate or vanilla sauce made from scratch in house. None to my knowledge, aside from Dynamite, top their donuts with house made rainbow sprinkles and real vanilla bean. Had you asked me before hand, I would have said all of this obsessive extra effort lavished upon a humble donut, was so much over the top, over kill, showmanship... And I would have been as wrong as wrong could be. Dynamite's effort comes across in every bite and for me establishes a new standard. They change the game: Lilikoi Malasada sounds like the name of that girl the old man has been pining over since he shipped out of the Pacific in 1947. Well, the locals had better hope the tourist rabble (like me) don't catch on to what's cooking up on Lower Main, two minutes from the beach and harbor, a stone's throw from the mouth of the famous Iao Valley. If you are anywhere on this island, you need to get to know Donut Dynamite as soon as possible. First tried these scrumptious creations at the Doc Yogi Competition and since have been on the hunt for these beauties. I finally got my hands on some today. Not only is the topping upon these donuts flavored but so is the dough.....amazing!! The Lilikoi Malasada was perfectly made and the filling was just the right amount of tart. Like the donuts, the dough from the Malasada had hints of citrus which made them absolutely delicious. These donuts are created from the bottom up. The dough is flavored to the finished product which set them apart from every other donut out there! No generic dough with different flavored toppings here...Donut Dynamite is just that.....DYNAMITE!! Too bad flavors vary daily and I live on Oahu. I tried the maple bacon , oh!oreo , salted caramel , strawberry rose ,Molokai sweet potatoe poi ,very berry rosemary ,calamansi ginger mint , and mango poi . The best flavor I tried was the calamansi ginger mint. Bright citrus flavor from the calamansi and ginger and mint in the background to balance it out . Although I have to give the best creative award for the rosemary one! The rosemary gave it a savory component to a usually sweet dessert . As for the dough itself , it's a brioche style donut per cashier . It's a bit dryer than the yeast style donut . I'm no donut expert but I just know if I eat something yummy I like it ! There's not as much chew on these donuts because of the style of dough . I like em bouncy ! The donuts were surprisingly not too sweet , glaze had just the right amount of sweetness. Some lacked in advertised flavor but forgivable since it's hard to capture flavors of poi , and mango .
