Went here in the mood for a burger. The staff and customer service was very friendly and polite. We let them know it was our first time and the young lady at the counter explained the specials. They share a space with a shaved ice company so inside seating is about 4 tables. Lots of outdoor tables. We had the burger on the Japanese milk bread and a double burger on their home made buns. Both were delicious, albeit a bit smaller than I anticipated for an a la cart burger for $18. Fries or tots are extra. $10 for a half and half combo. The pork and beans were absolutely amazing. Lots of pork sausage, bacon, a hot dog maybe and sweet beans. Fantastic. The bottle of coke was $5, but if you want water, you'll have to pour it into the smallest of paper cups from an igloo jug. For two people we were in it for $50. A little more than I expected for a burger lunch. Excellent flavors tho. read more

Really easy menu too so youre not thinking for too long. The flavors speak for themselves. We got the Velzy Burger and the Pattie Melts. Both were excellent. Cant say I could recommend one over the other as they were different. Just get both! We also got large fries to share and it was just right. It's definitely small inside. The burgers are a little on the pricier side, but everything is sourced locally I was told. Based on the online reviews, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, it came up short for me. Burger - what ruined it was the stale / dry bun. Especially since the burger itself is smaller, the bun has to be good, but it just wasn't. This is surprising since they claim to bake them onsite; maybe it was an old batch (Friday at 1 pm). They had no cane drinks; apparently was no good that day. Being generous with 4 stars because fries were solid (but could have been hotter), I like their innovative approach with local / healthier ingredients, and the service was friendly. They seem independently owned and trying to make it, and I wish them the best, and I would consider giving them another try in the future. read more

It is a good burger fo sho, but 5 stars is like... you need to go out of your way if you're in town to eat here...and I am not sure this burger is out of your way worthy. Although, do I think this burger is better than some of the more popular Maui burger recommendations? Yes. If you want an onion burger, this is probably a 5 Star place, but when I go out for a burger, I'm basically looking for three kinds of places. 1 - A fun, creative menu experience. Think Cool Cats, or Havens, or one of those freaky fun burger experiences that have glazed donuts for buns. Or a peanut butter and jelly burger with salted peanut butter, thinly sliced strawberries, and thick cut bacon. 2 - A classic, no nonsense traditional burger or smash burger, that knows what the basics are, and does them to perfection. Think Burger Boys, Fatburger, In 'n Out, Steak 'n Shake, etc. Peggy Sue's sometimes can do it right. 3 - A cheap eat. McDonald's Quarterpounder for the win. There are no condiments here! That's like, 30% of the burger! Crispy lettuce, Claussen pickles, tomatoes...chopped onions...these add texture and layers of flavors. Mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup... Every bite is a party in your mouth because all the condiments are invited. There's no options here. The onions are smashed into the meat...therefore the onions taste like the meat. Not a lot of variety in the bite. Yes, I know the onion burger is an Internet sensation. I made one myself the other day on a patty melt and it was pretty fantastic, but I used sourdough bread and mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup. There were way more flavors going on. I had to lick the sauce by itself...because I wasn't tasting anything other than meat and cheese. The bun was spectacular looking, and great. Fries are probably top five on the island for me. They're basically McDonald's style fries, which, as you know, are the best fries ever. Like I said in the beginning, it is great for what it is...But, when I'm dropping $25, it falls into the number two category. I need more flavor and texture and options if I'm going to be a repeat customer. If all the condiments were options... Then, yes... The owner there can tell you where everything comes from - the beef, the romaine, and you can see someone in the back rolling fresh dough for buns. Loved the onions on the smashburger, the buns were THE BEST, and the meat was so good! The fries were great - probably needed more for the 4 of us. It's pricey. BUT if it's fresh, real food - which this clearly is - that's what it costs and I am happy to pay it. Loved our lunch there. read more

Big Kahuna Burger: 7/10 Great concept poor execution burger looks fantastic. The cook on the burger look great but was dry. Bun was also dry but homemade. I think need a bit more refinement and it'll be a stud. Onion Rings: 9.5/10 Would've been perfect, but just a tad bit on the oily side Ambiance: 7/10 Environment was cool. Outdoor seating, nice breeze, but if you go there anytime between 2pm-4pm Monday through Friday. It's just filled with kids from the high school across the street making a lot of noise. I didn't let this affect my review in any type of way. Just wanna give a little bit of a heads up. Service: 10/10 Service was fantastic! Absolutely unexpected and unreal. Hidden gem of the century!!! Velzy burger - WOW. The construction of this burger delivers the most phenomenal flavor unlike any other! Two smashed patties (100% grass fed and local beef!) create caramelized crispy edges but with a tender flavorful center. The sauce is magical with pieces of pickle, mixing with the cheese and sweet onions. Also I NEVER like American cheese but this burger transforms it into something incredible! And that housemade bun is soft and slightly sweet and so so perfect. My husband's favorite burger of all time. 5++++++ stars!!!! Kauai Shrimp Caesar Salad - Featuring the most perfect shrimp I've ever had, this dish transports you to a fine dining restaurant. Everything you want and more from a caesar salad. 5+++ stars! Cute little burger counter in the same space as Ululani's Wailuku location. Everything is clean, there's some nice merch for sale and even a fridge full of sugar cane stalks for their fresh pressed sugar cane juice. We got a couple Velzy burgers as well as fries and Cheesy Patties. The fries weren't great but the burger and cheesy patties were pretty good. Good flavor to the burgers, nice dipping sauce for the cheesy patties and great buns! It even looked like they make the burger buns there! Service was fast and friendly. Like others have said, they take pride in their product. Prices were a little high for a takeout burger spot, but props for making quality food. read more

I am not sure HOW long this hidden gem has been here next to Ululani Shave ice but YUMMMM. I had just noticed it when we went to pick up shave ice in the afternoon (but was waiting in the car with dog so i didn't go outside to scope it out) and was like, wow, when did that open!? Fast forward a couple hours later. My coworker calls me about something and then proceeds to tell me he is picking up food from Velzyland and i was like "No way!! I JUST saw that place today!!! Like 2 hours ago!!!". So he tells me he has been there before and it's good and sends me a picture of the menu. Well, i l do love me some smash burgers so guess what? That's where we ended up getting dinner! I ended up getting the double up (it was only 3 bucks more than the regular), my son got the Velzyland, and my husband got the beef stew. I am usually a lettuce wrap type of burger girl but let me tell you, the bun on the burger was SOOOO good!!!! Next time i might have to get 2 singles just so i can have more bread! No photo as I inhaled what appeared to be a super delicious hamburger. I got the velzy triple which I thought was going to be super huge and at the end of my meal I would feel like a mummy. So not the case. These are three local beef patties smashed perfectly into the most tastiest hamburger ever. I ate that with my tater tots and it does make a difference in using beef tallow to cook your tots. They are way more flavorful. My husband got what was like a patty melt also so good. Service was awesome as the owner was very personable. It is located inside same building as where the best shave ice ever(Ululani) is made. Don't snooze on the cane juice either it was also delicious. And they sell tallow skin care which I personally use at home and can verify works wonders. read more

We're both senior citizens and have eaten a LOT of burgers but this little place, only here a year now, is hands down the BEST burger we've ever had! It's hand formed grass and macadamia nut fed angus beef mixed with wagu beef from Japan which is aged 24 days before cooking. Ian is the chef and explained the process after we complimented him on how amazing our meal was. Even the fresh cut French fries were fried to perfection with a light coating of seasoning that was incredible. Very sorry we didn't take a picture before we ate it. After this incredible meal, walk to the other side of the same room for some Ululanis Hawaiian Shave ice. You won't be disappointed! read more

The house made buns are perfectly soft with a lightly sweet crust that pairs well with the smashburger. Fries made in beef tallow have the crunch and flavor that reminds you of what a classic burger fry combo should be. Paired with a coke bottled in Mexico, it's the ultimate meal. Howzit All! I had the Velzy Burger with three patties and a side of fries. All I can say is wow!!! This was what I imagined a smash burger would taste like. I've tried several other "smash" burgers but this one blew them away. Flavor of the grass fed beef was top notch, the bun was homemade and fresh. Even the fries were crisp and flavorful. I had to sit outside because there were only two tables inside in the AC. Service was friendly. Food was delivered quickly. The chef even came out to give me the download on the meal and the name of the restaurant. Velzy is a surf spot on O'ahu!? I didn't like the fries from here either, I thought they had a funny taste. Service was quick though. I'm not sure what else there is to say. *first timer* I got the chicken Caesar salad + small french fries and it was a 10/10. Crisp and crunchy lettuce, clear in-house made dressing AND croutons. Every piece of lettuce was generously covered with the delicious and perfectly seasoned dressing. And the french fries are my new favorite. It has a very nostalgic taste (due to using actual beef tallow) and I am completely obsessed. Can't wait to try more items :) read more
