Came here around 7am on a weekday and they were not busy at all, they had fully stocked donuts of all kinds and the employees were super friendly and eager to help and assist. With COVID came crazy chocolate and candy cravings...and one day I said forget let's go get some donuts. Thankfully, this large donut shop was open and had a variety of donuts and drinks to choose from. I was in sugar but not gluten free heaven. (Please offer gluten free donuts!) Their apple fritters I thought we're better than the ones available at Apple hill-omg!! Unfortunately though I was only able to try it once because the second time I went was later in the evening and they were out of it. My suggestion maybe call first to see if they have what you want before making the long drive over. No, another donut type is not a substitute for apple fritter. read more

That was actually my last visit here, got some milk and your favorite Maple Bar, like around 8 o'clock or 9 ish, perfect timing. But again, very good. Big variety, friendly service, but the donuts were not very fresh. The chocolate cake with chocolate frosting donut, the one I was looking forward to the most, had absorbed some flavor from another donut and ruined the experience. All of the cake donuts were a little stale. Those that we didn't eat on the same day went into the garbage. The original glazed donut was fresh and tasty, but the cake ones were a disappointment. Visit date: 7/15/20 Time: 8:30 pst I was greeted warmly by an older Asian gentleman as my fiance and I entered the establishment. The customer service was great, very welcoming. The inside was tidy and well kept. I did not eat there so I didn't pay close attention to the tables. There was a large variety of delicious looking donuts to choose from. All of which looked fresh. A Regular half dozen was about $5. We bought an apple fritter (pictured below), glaze twist, regular glazed (pictured below), and a plain old fashioned donut. The total was about $5.25. Excellent prices! All and all I was a happy camper. When I got home, we realized all of the donuts (including the friter) was cold like it was in a refrigerator all day. :-( I heated my donut for about 10 seconds. The middle was fluffy but not airy. It was probably fluffier when it was fresh. The glaze was just right, though it was a bit sweet for my liking. It had a nice taste but was slightly oily. I think this is due to me re-heating it. The fritter was heavy and much oilier. You can actually see the oil in the picture below. Again, may be because it was refrigerated and had to be re-heated. It actually tasted pretty good, inspite of the oily finish. I wish the donuts could have been fresh. I will definitly try again but probably in the morning next time. read more

This is my favorite local donut place. I always get the French cruller and the plain cake donut. I've tried the Apple fritters, ham and cheese croissant, and muffins. Apple fritters are delicious. The croissants and muffins are just ok. The donuts are the superstar! The cream puffs are amazing! I always get a dozen. The customer service is unmatched. I've  lived in Citrus Heights for about 2 years,even though I haven't been here for a long time, I almost only go to Donut King to get some quick and easy food while I'm bike riding.  It is close to where I live and their donuts are  delicious! The first time I ever went there was my first few days as a resident of Citrus Heights. Coming in I didn't expect much, but a few average donuts and some coffee. Although the store gave you a warm and relaxing vibe, the item that caught me off guard was their "thai tea"; as a native from San Jose, Ca, a few stores that sell any ice tea/boba were no further than a mile. After moving to Citrus heights, I didn't really see any stores that sold iced tea, but Donut King was the first store I saw that sold ice tea in my area and was walking distance from my house and really close to my school.    I usually come here twice or three times a week for their delicious  ham and cheese croissant and the refreshing Thai tea. Sometimes I even go during my lunch break while at school. They have a wide variety of selections from their menu that are somewhat unique in their own way, and will never get boring. This business is good for any age looking for a quick and some yummy donuts, but also something like their smoothies or many more from their beverage selection. Every now and then, I develop a sweet tooth and these sugary pastries sometimes hit the spot at any given time of day. And considering this place is open 24/7, that's even more reason to check this place out. Located directly on Greenback Lane and San Juan Ave., "Donut King" has been here as far back as I remembered. And ever since moving to the Citrus Heights area in April 2016, I have been exploring a whole new world of businesses that I never previously frequented. I came here with my lovely lady on a warm Sunday morning in July as our tummies are both craving these delectable high-carb treats. The inside is inviting and has several tables to sit down in case you wish to dine in. It is definitely old school (think 1970's/80's decor) as it's a traditional donut shop that looks like it hasn't gone through any renovations since it opened its doors. However, the glass case containing the plethora of sweets is enough to send chills to your taste buds. When we went, business was moderate. But the gentleman working was very friendly as his level of customer service was definitely above average. You will find just about anything and everything here; traditional, old fashioned, glazed, bear claws, cream puffs, cinnamon rolls, scones, fritters, fruit bars, eclairs, and croissants. Additionally, if donuts isn't your thing, this place also offers traditional breakfast items such as a ham and cheese croissant. You will also find a lot of coffee drinks including regular house coffee, espressos, lattes, and mochas. And for the kids, they offer hot cocoa and milk. My advice to all is that you come here in between the hours of 5-10am. The only reason is because that is when they are continuously replenishing new donuts assuring the freshest ones that are on display. Many Yelpers have complained of the donuts being dry; my response to that is that if you come here, say at 7pm, it might have been sitting there since the morning. And donuts do not have a very long shelf life as they get stale very quickly. Now the reason for the four star rating.. These donuts are sweet! And that's not in a good way! I had the opportunity of trying their plain donut (without any icing, sprinkles, etc.) and that tasted good. But I also had a maple old fashioned and the entire thing was screaming sugar. I haven't had the opportunity to try anything else but from my observation from just eating the two donuts I ate, it can definitely vary from one food item to the next. Overall, this is a legit little place that is good if you happen to have that sweet tooth craving. And since its only a 5 minute drive from our house (and open 24 hours), I'll definitely be coming back here again! read more

The best donut shop in north Sac. I've loved this place for years, and the donuts are still as good as ever. I don't have a specific favorite, as all the standbys are great (glazed, sugar, buttermilk, chocolate logs, bavarian cream filled, etc.). The spot stays open 24 hours a day, which is another plus. We were the only people in the shop around 10:30 am employees seem to care less that we were there.
