    Maple Bar MAR2025
    Franklin M.

It was around 8pm when I went in to check out the selection and they still had a good amount of sweet treats to chose from. I picked out the maple bar and they threw in a donut hole for free. I didn't eat the donut until morning and it was still good and fresh despite the sweet maple sticking mostly to the paper bag it came in.

The case of the Monday blues quickly faded away when I walked into the kitchen at work and saw a box of donuts. I was even happier that one of my favorites was available - a chocolate buttermilk bar. I took a bite and relished the taste. It was fresh, with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. The chocolate glaze added the perfect amount of sweetness. My co-worker also enjoyed her selection. If I happen to be in the area I would stop by this shop and try out some of their other tasty delights.

Chocolate buttermilk donut - got a little squished but soo good.

NOT LIKE THE REST! Stopped at this quaint little shop this morning after craving a croissant and saw they had more than just your plain croissant and ham + cheese croissant as options. I don't eat ham so this shop was the perfect choice. They have such a good variety of SAVORY croissants; turkey & cheese, cheese, potato & chicken (Halal), spinach & cheese, ham & cheese, & a few more. I picked up a cheese croissant, a potato & chicken croissant, & chocolate buttermilk donut. EVERYTHING IS DELISH! The buttermilk donut was perfect, not too dense. It had a crispy outside that gave way to a nice fluffy inside. And the chocolate glaze, yum. The croissants were perfect. The cheese is filled with the same cheese they would use in a ham & cheese croissant. You could even pair the potato chicken with a salad and it would be a yummy meal.

Inside the breakfast croissant sandwich - egg, bacon, cheese. I love this sandwich it's so good! $5.99 as of Nov 2023

This place is so tasty!!! We came to fill up some jugs of water and found GOLD! $0.30 per gallon of purified water But the real treasures are the baked goods (WOW) Classic donuts, croissants, puff pastries! You name it, they are all so good! Texture, sweet level, each bite is perfect! Customer service is quick! Lots of seating and open all day from the early morning time till night. Lots of love goes into this place so definitely stop in and get a few boxes for yourself, friends and family

Donut King is located in the same strip mall as Mayura. I only looked inside and didn't see any sugar and gluten free donuts and didn't purchase anything. This shop sells: fresh fruit cups, sandwiches, coffees, iced matcha and bakery goods. Lady behind the counter had a face mask, gloves and was cordial helpful. This shop open daily at 05:00, definitely note worthy.

Stopped in here for a quick snack with my brother after visiting a near by store. The selection wasn't huge but the donuts they did have, were great flavours and cheap. The donuts we purchased were cheap and very tasty (not too sweet). And the blended iced coffee was the same. Cheap and delicious. Happy to have stopped in here on a whim - much better than some expensive places I have been to.

PARKING We lucked out with street parking right in front. It's limited, and I can see it getting tight on weekends, but doable with patience. PASTRIES & CAKES PRINCESS CAKE - $6.50 I ordered this slice for my birthday, and it absolutely delivered. Alternating layers of airy sponge cake, vanilla custard, and house-made raspberry jam, topped with a dome of whipped cream and finished in light green almond paste. Every bite was balanced--rich but never cloying. Perfect texture, perfect sweetness. Rating: 5/5 RASPBERRY LEMON MOUSSE CAKE - $6.50 An indulgent combination of fresh raspberries and mousse layered with feather-light sponge cake brushed in lemon syrup. Finished with bits of raspberry-infused Valrhona chocolate, this cake hits that ideal sweet-tart balance. Bright, elegant, and not overly sweet--exactly how dessert should be. Rating: 5/5 SPANDAUER - $3.50 Understated and refined. Almond paste, custard, and crunchy almond flakes come together beautifully. Soft meets crisp in all the right ways. Rating: 4/5 KRINGLE - $3.50 A flaky pastry filled with almond paste and custard, topped with sugar and almond flakes. Simple, comforting, and executed perfectly. Excellent with coffee. Rating: 4.5/5 OVERALL Warm, friendly service paired with exceptional pastries and cakes. This place nails balance, flavor, and texture without relying on excess sweetness. I'll be back again and again.

My first time- with the high, beam-exposed ceiling and layout, has Joan's on Third vibes. No seating inside but plenty outdoors, although the closer to the entrance, you need to talk loudly above the music. I went late (to meet a friend) at 1pm. Few choices in the pastry section though it looked like they would replenish, which they barely did an hour later. Here's what I got: FRENCH SILK PIE - OMG, the chocolate mousse like filling was butter. Thick but light. The crust was dry and too thick but I could smother myself with the filling. PEANUT BUTTER HONEY RICE KRISPY - Very large, cereal was too compressed and dense. The pb flavor was fresh and natural but I did not taste honey. The marshmallow fluff on top was unnecessary but the few blobs inside the krispy was a nice textural difference. Both were $6 each. I can see why they can't sustain their business. Maybe because they're closing the bakery, they didn't want to bake excessively. But the middle tables have cute but overpriced novelties. There was a big table of just old fashioned Helms truck tins, filled with cookies for a mere $50. The prepackaged food might be good but was expensive. $12 for a small egg salad sandwich. The cured ham sandwich I noticed had deli meat ham. It's also inconvenient to wait in a separate line for coffee. That's where you can get soft serve btw. Sad to see Helms Bakery close. The parking lot with the painted mural and trick of the eye shading is so nostalgic. I will come back to finally try Pasta Sisters which is also in Helm's District. Best of luck to the owner and hope to see the bakery back in another form, maybe a food truck?

I was sooo bummed that I had already grabbed breakfast, but did that stop me? Nope. The pastry counter is my weakness, and this one is incredible. The pastries stretch the entire length of the counter, and everything looked amazing. The space itself is on the smaller side and gets busy, so I recommend grabbing your order to go. Both the pastries and drinks are fantastic. I've also tried their bagels, which I really enjoy. My only wish is that they had at least one sweet bagel option, like chocolate chip or cinnamon sugar. The staff are friendly, and they move quickly, which I always appreciate. This might be my new favorite neighborhood spot. Sinners & Saints Desserts offers a splurge for a luscious dessert, yet scrumptious for those that need gluten-free treats. Be mindful that their kitchen is not a dedicated gluten-free one, but precautions are taken to minimize cross contamination. I used to work in the area & came across this bakery, but never got around to trying them out. Since my daughter's birthday was coming up, I thought about trying them out since their desserts were beautifully displayed... they should taste good, right? I ordered the current favorite flavor: red velvet, & asked if they could decorate it with pink flowers & birthday message in red. The cake looks plain with just 3 pink roses, but the birthday cursive was pretty good; however, for the price, it wasn't worth eating a super dry cake. Our family of 4 barely ate 1/3, & tried giving it away to our neighbors, who were also unimpressed. The Smack Pie was supposedly a decadent chocolate lover's sinful treat. It was meh... the ganache wasn't silky-smooth but did taste fudgy, the caramel was hard, & the peanuts were stale. We did enjoy the Banana Cream & Lemon Blueberry Tarts to offset the very dry birthday cake. Luckily, I bought these to compensate for the cake so the birthday girl was happy in the end. Sinners & Saints Desserts sounds like a deliciously tempting bakery but some of their goods miss the mark. I don't think I'll be purposely sinning here much. Recommended: Lemon Blueberry & Banana Cream Tarts.
