Definitely some of the most delicious donuts in Austin! These donuts are 1000% better than Shipleys donuts, don't fight me! The good: - A large variety of donut flavors and sandwiches and tacos The bag: - Quantities are limited for donuts so even if you arrive by 9am you will likely not get your first pick! I have only been here twice and came specifically for donuts. Each time I've come there has been a bit of a line to order so that tells me they have delicious offerings. However, the staff is not the friendliest in my opinion, and they seem to be focused on efficiency, which is fine, but doesn't make me want to rush back! I stopped by the other day wanting a coffee. They only offer coffee and cappuccinos. The cappuccino machine was out of order, so I ended up ordering food. When I first entered the store, I didn't think much of it, there wasn't a lot of seating, but I wasn't planning on dining in. While talking to the person behind the counter, I glanced behind me, and a line had formed. That should let you know that it is a very popular place. They don't do apple pay so I was lucky I had the physical card on me. I looked at everything and had questions about the kolaches and got the mini one instead. You would not be disappointed with it either. I then got the Bavarian cream donut holes; I wanted maybe 2 or 3 but they are only sold in half dozen/dozen so 6 it was. I think it's most people's weekend tradition because a lot of locals go there. They almost always sell out before they close. They are open everyday same time and consistent. During our vacation to Austin, we came here in search of the famous "Hook 'em Horns" doughnut, but to no avail. Apparently, the donut shop stopped making them years ago, probably due to the lawsuit brought upon them by the University of Texas to cease using the longhorn image that they had trademarked. So what else does this small, modest donut shop have? Well, other donuts of course. When we arrived on a Monday morning at 11AM, there were still plenty of donuts left with most of the flavors still being produced. The donut shop was pretty quiet with just a few customers and a few tables for people to sit down at. We ended up ordering the maple bacon donut and a lavender donut along with some munchkins/donut holes. I know it's not really a great enough sample size to give my full opinion of the donut shop, but the donuts were solid. We got two kolaches (pepperoni and sausage), two tacos, and an apple fritter. While the kolaches had savory flavor, there was little meat in them and they were a lot drier than we were expecting/hoping. The tacos were the best part but nothing really special, sausage, and sausage potato. The apple fritter was the most disappointing. It was quite large and dense but very dry and had little to no apple in it. Breakfast tacos and donuts are a Texas or maybe an Austin staple? After a night of partying I need something a little heavier than my usual breakfast staple of egg whites and oatmeal. My husband and I came here and we were quite overwhelmed by the selection of tacos. For $1.69 I could choose from about 10 different breakfast taco combinations. I ended up with a sausage and egg taco and a maple bacon donut. I loved the breakfast taco and the sauce. The eggs were fluffy and sausage was flavorful. The maple bacon donut was fresh and the bacon was crispy and smokey. My husband and I took two donuts to go to try later. It was a no shame day in the food arena. We shared an apple fritter and a long john (filled with yellow chiz). The apple fritter was disappointing and I have not found a good once since living in this area. They tend to be too dry and just overall lack. The long john was very good and filled with delicious amount of cream. This place was quite busy for a Sunday morning and I can see why. I have a better idea on what I would want to try next time so I will be back. read more

So, I had been watching...and waiting...for this place to open ever since I saw the sign go up....Donut Taco Palace?!? craziest name and ALSO the best idea EVER! who doesn't want a little bite of something sweet after devouring a scrumptious breakfast taco?? I got the egg, potato and cheese taco...and their salsa is the shit! I am a salsa snob..and this stuff was seriously tasty...the tacos were like my grandma made them right before they were served up...delicious! I also got some of the plain glazed donuts for the coworkers (and so I could taste them) and they are probably my favorite donuts in austin so far...good to know that there is such an awesome breakfast place right down the street from me that is seriously cheap! So this a bit of a hard one to write... The people have always been nice. We enjoy that they have breakfast options that we like and donuts. It would all be good except.. The thing we can't get past... That the food tastes like the cleaning product they use in the store. One time it was so strong the breakfast sandwich I got tasted nothing but cleaning perfume smell, with a small taste of egg and sausage. This time I got tacos bc they haven't been as bad. Yet again that taste is there but not as bad. Husband is really disappointed today bc the ham and cheese croissant he enjoys tasted strongly of the cleaner smell. He just said to me 'I wish they'd quit using whatever cleaning product they use'. Honestly it tastes terrible simply bc of this. Really hoping they read this.
