The audacity Story time, Today I went to the original Round Rock location, downtown Round Rock, to buy my son's birthday donuts, It's tradition. Every year on his birthday he gets a dozen half glazed and half chocolate frosted donuts. Then I get a kolache and a dozen donut holes for myself. Well when I pulled up today the line was wrapped around all the way to Mays street. So I just followed the line of cars and got in line. You'd think that a line that long would take a long time but.... Round Rock donuts has this process down to a T. It took less than 10 minutes to get through that line and get my order. And those donuts came out hot and fresh. So did my kolache. Anywho, Don't let the lines scare you away, Just jump in and know they're going to move quickly. Also, If you're planning an office event or any type of event and you want donuts and coffee or kolaches donuts and coffee, Round Rock donuts offers a great menu for large orders and also they have a cake menu for custom cake orders. If you don't want to stay in line in your car you can also park wherever you can find a spot and go to the walk-up ordering window, It's shaded and there's plenty of space to hang out while your order is being made and brought out to you. Oh, Round Rock you had me at donuts. Round Rock Donuts has been around since 1926 and it's easy to understand why they remain a staple in the area. They're known for specific specialties such as the "Texas" donut which is as big as my butt. Ok well, maybe not but close. It's a 14" donut! The cinnamon rolls are just as ginormous. They have regular-sized donuts, donut holes, kolaches, and mini-donuts. Another specialty is their glazed yellow donut (color from fresh eggs). Yeast-risen donuts. The double chocolate (cake style) mini-donut is my favorite. The bakery offers walk-up window service as well as drive-thru. They get really busy and are open 4:30 am-6:30 pm. This place is legendary for a reason. I always recommend avoiding the drive-thru in favor of actually standing in line and going up to their walk up window because it'll save you minutes on the hour. A few things to knock out briefly: Their kolaches are pretty good, and I'm always getting at least one when I pull up. Their black coffee stands on its own. It's some peak donut shop coffee. Now the rest: Their donuts are so gas. They are bright orange, yeasty, and incredible. It's hard to explain what the difference really is between them and everywhere else, but if you try one of their glazed donuts fresh out the box, it's undeniable. Their cake ones are also fantastic. It's interesting to never see those get the praise that their glaze gets. As a whole, their donuts are still on par with most places' prices. They're not overcharging because they're popular. You gotta love it. I guess the only downside is there is no where nearby to sit and destroy them. You want me to drive home after getting my donuts. I want to sit and stare at the clouds while I make the donuts go Houdini. It's amazing being so close to them that I always go when my girlfriend is in town. At work, my team was gifted one of their Texas-Sized Donuts and that guy was incredible. I was cutting off bits all day. A volunteer at work always brings some Round Rock Donuts on the last Thursday of every month, and I always pig out. It's gotten to a point that he reminds me about him bringing them. I'm so helpless. Came here on Saturday and Sunday morning, during a Texas Cold front, and there was definitely a good line of donut-seeking customers! They have a nice display of donuts at the center of their window, with two ordering lines. I ordered the Glazed, Red Velvet, and Blueberry Donuts. The Red Velvet was good, the Blueberry was average, and the Glazed Donut was absolutely amazing! The Glazed Donut was warm, fluffy, and proportionately bigger than a typical donut. This time we tried several flavors of filled donuts (my favorite is the lemon) and the cinnamon rolls. We brought home a couple dozen glazed donuts for friends (even day old are better than not getting to have them for months on end) and one Texas Sized glazed for the bit. They have a good parking lot and drive in option which is what we opted for. We grabbed a regular and jalapeño kolaches, glazed and chocolate glazed donuts, a cinnamon roll, and a white chocolate raspberry latte. Here's our take: Regular kolache - pretty good kolache, definitely better than most places Jalapeño kolache - very good, took the regular and elevated it a few notches Regular glazed - good, a great way to get a taste for their donuts consistency for the first time Chocolate glazed - an out of body experience, easily the best chocolate glazed we've ever had Cinnamon roll - not good, maybe an off day but lacked that cinnamon flavor but glaze was good White chocolate raspberry latte - very good, sweet but not too much to overpower the coffee flavor If you are in the Austin area, or generally south of DFW just do yourself the favor and come down here, you won't regret it and you will probably write us a thank you letter.
