I know, I know... why go to a Voodoo Doughnut location when I live in the Pacific Northwest and with out too much work get to a Voodoo Doughnuts location with relative ease. Why am I going to one in Austin? Well, it's because I am a completeist and I try to go to as many Voodoo Doughnut locations as I can. Austin has two locations but Steve was only willing to tolerate going to one location so we went here. The doughnuts are going to be about the same as any other location however I did come across one that I haven't seen before. I am not sure if it was limited edition or what but I liked it. It was kind of take on a Black Forest Cake but it wasn't cherries that were on top of the doughnut and cream. It was more like blueberries. It was good and I am glad I tried it! I was really hoping to see the Ring of Fire Doughnut as it's my favorite but I didn't see it here. I got more of a powdered doughnut too as I do like their more basic doughnuts too. Steve got something that almost was like a Dubai-esque Chocolate Doughnut. It had pistachios on it and was a chocolate cake. That one was good too! Atmosphere is weird and quirky like all of their locations try to be which I can appreciate. So if you are addicted to Voodoo Doughnuts or have been wanting to try them but don't plan any PNW trips then definitely swing by the Texas locations. This location is awesome! Tons of seating and there is bathrooms for customers! I loved the cute flag and all the decorations. The tables were also very cool and the napkins were custom which is also very fun! The actual donuts are really good too! If you like maple bars then you will love the maple bar here! Voodoo Doughnuts is known for their crazy doughnuts with toppings. They have a lot of options. We got the cinnamon sugar cake and dirt doughnuts. We wanted to get the old dirty bastard, but they were apparently out on a Sunday morning. I thought the cinnamon doughnut would be good, but it was not. It was dry and didn't have a good flavour. The dirt doughnut had generic Oreo pieces on it, and it was okay. I felt like the doughnuts looked better than they tasted, but it was still a good experience to go to their 6th street location. I forgot to check in, but see photo for proof we actually got donuts! We actually didn't finish all of them because we picked them up right before dinner. There was a blueberry donut, a mango filling one, banana, these flavors stood out and was what I remember to be good. I'm usually a plain glazed donut or maybe an old fashioned donut kinda person. But these were pretty good for a change, and the donut itself is also good by itself. Many of the fancy donuts I've had, the donut itself can be dry and texture or taste isn't great on its own. A good size and not a weak donut. I did a fancy chocolate cake donut of the Butterfinger kind. A fantastic blend of a good chocolate cake and the touch of peanut from the crisp. A good combo of about 50/50 share of flavor. Focusing on the cake donut resulted in a favorable chocolate cake donut. Freshness is key. Lastly was a buttermilk bar. Good, just good. We tried the Portland Cream, and it did not disappoint--everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the flavor was amazing. The cream filling was a custard, which made it even more delicious. Now I can say "I've been there." Heard about this place & decided to check it out in this Weds Am. It's kinda cool, kinda muggy. Locals say it's cool, this Californian says, It's Whew Hot. Walked here from my Hotel, it's a quick walk & decided I was going to be a donut Queen of the day. Wow plenty of choices. They are big & just full of sugar. I decided to get The Homer & a Cinnamon Cake. I opted for a water since it's pretty warm. Delicious & Wow super sweet. This place is cute, big, with plenty of seating. There's a large banquette and plenty of chairs. There's a stage & a cute Photo Booth. Service was quick as it was 10am & the early morning crowds had died down. Dare I say it was pretty Dead. My first time visiting the Austin location, but I've been to the Portland, Oregon spot a few times. The vibe here still has that same fun and quirky energy that makes VooDoo Doughnut stand out. I tried the Pop Tart donut with the strawberry filling and it was really good. The donut was fresh and the strawberry center added the right touch. I'm starting to feel like I run into a Voodoo everywhere I go, but I get why: the donuts are creative and tasty. They are slightly pricey, but as an occasional splurge, it's not unreasonable. Also, especially the bigger (and more expensive) ones are reasonable to share -- and you'd probably be better off doing so. This particular location has some cool decor like the donut trees and flag. While these donuts are definitely on the more expensive side, they are so good! My friends and I decided to get a couple of them and split them amongst all us so we could try a couple of flavors. The donuts themselves are really big and perfect for sharing (or not sharing haha) I especially if you just want a little sweet treat. We got the Old Dirty Bastard and the Mango Tango. The Old Dirty Bastard is your standard chocolate and peanut butter. It's great if you want a more classic flavor. The Mango Tango was easily the favorite of the two in our group. Not only is it just different from other donut flavors that you can typically find, it is also so delicious! The mango isn't too sweet while also being so flavorful. Couple of things to mention... I went at like 11:30pm on Halloween weekend so the line was LONG and barely moving. Thankfully someone else stepped in to help out. Playlist is fire and interior is cute. I tried the portland cream pie, the voodoo doll and the hibiscus one. The hibiscus one was the best to me because it was tart and not overly sweet. It doesn't really taste like hibiscus to me, more like a berry of some kind. Voodoo doll is cute but the chocolate layer on top is THICK so it's pretty sweet. The cream pie one was horrible; the cream inside tastes so artificial it tastes like one of those plastic food toys. It was very difficult to eat and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Knocking off a star because of the location, but otherwise a great donut spot! I'm someone who does not like sweets. But, I love an apple cider donut, and Voodoo's cinnamon sugar donut is pretty similar (just no apple cider flavor, of course)! Always hits the spot. There is only ever 1-2 employees working outside of the kitchen (not sure about in the kitchen, because you can see inside too much), and they are always friendly! Nevertheless, this spot is only convenient if you are traveling through town and feel brave enough to go to 6th, or if you are an undergrad already going out on dirty 6th street. And when I say dirty, I mean literally very very dirty. Think rats, feces, and vomit. Sadly, when I went to Voodoo this weekend (my friends and I were walking through downtown Austin for some F1 events, so we were in the area) there was a massive splash of vomit right outside the doors of Voodoo. Not even memorable--except for how universally disliked they were by every single member of the family. The one saving grace? The staff. Friendly, fast, and deserving of the tip I happily left. Yum yummy for our tummy. We stopped in here at 1am and the donuts still looked fresh. We decided to grab breakfast for the next morning and sweet treat for a night cap. Venue was nicely decorated. Wednesday 7/24/2024 I got the dirt (cookies n cream) $4, strawberry go-tart $4, and apple fritter $4.50. - The dirt (cookies & cream) was alright but was a bit dry and tasted stale rather than fresh (especially the cookie toppings). - The strawberry go tart was solid but only the ends had the strawberry filling while the middle had nothing so it would've been a lot better if it was filled throughout the entire donut. - The apple fritter was my favorite of the 3 and tasted a lot better when warmed up. Overall, this was an alright donut spot and could've been better if the donuts were fresher and made a better but it's not bad by any means. I gotta admit, I love sweets but since my metabolism doesn't agree with my age I stay away from them as much as possible. However, when I lived in Kansas City back in 2017 I remember watching some food/travel network show and this place from Seattle called Voodoo Donuts was featured. I thought to myself, boy that's one cool place and I'd love to see it, but I'm not traveling cross country for a donut; after all, I'm not Homer Simpson. Fast forward to 2024 and living in Austin, which now has a Voodoo Donuts, I decided I have a few calories to spare so I'm gonna spike my sugar levels to a near death experience, of which only "voodoo" can bring me back. Located in a relatively safe part of town on Pecan St, I found parking at 9pm on Friday was fairly easy. That said I've been anticipating my trip for some time so I brought my hunger and sweet tooth through the hallowed doors. The ambiance is low key almost as if everything was thrown together with the last pennies from the owners' pants pockets, yet it works. Chandeliers of brass next to one's created from tree branches, an American flag of lights, brick walls of mismatched colors and basic tables with yard sale chairs. Yet I felt comfortable. The menus are hard to see but they have cases of donuts with cards so crisis averted! Actually I'm a sociable person so I wanted to strike up a conversation anyways. The cashier was knowledgeable and simply a joy to talk to as she was enthusiastic about her product and my presence. With all the fun and interesting combinations, the coffee needs a series upgrade to compliment the rest of the food. My coffee was the most boring part of my visit and honestly my home coffee is better. After you get the coffee, you have a couple creamers and some sweeteners for self-serve. No crazy lattes or mochas here just the most basic brown caffeinated liquid is offered. Ok, enough of the supporting cast lets get into the A list stars of this show. My first donut was the maple old fashioned. A great little concoction of cake dough with a strong maple frosting. Next was their flagship pastry the "Voodoo Doll." This is a BIG tour de sugar force and is a meal in and of itself. Tons of chocolate icing hides the seed-free raspberry jelly filled figure that looks like Beetlejuice on a bad day with a pretzel through his evil heart. It's really good but I literally felt sleepy after eating it with all the sugar coursing through my veins. The Strawberry Go-Tart is an interesting creation trying to simulate a pop-tart and while it didn't nail the flavor exactly it's a darn tasty pastry. The Homer is a normal donut dipped in strawberry frosting and sprinkles on it, ala what Homer Simpson eats. It was decent but not exactly memorable. I saved my favorite for last, the Portland Cream. This is another one of those HUGE undertakings as I tried to eat it after the voodoo. It's a great big yeast beast stuffed with a wonderful Bavarian cream that will make you slap your mommy and thank your dog. I'm a prisoner of what I like so this was my favorite, bar none. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong at Voodoo and I didn't even scratch the surface of many of their offerings. Once my kids see I went, I'm sure they'll want to come with me and get anything with bacon on it (I'm not big on swine). While I was disappointed with the coffee I think of it like going to a Metallica concert and complaining about the opening act. The food ROCKS. I felt quite bad because there was only one girl working and she was working up a sweaaaat but she was lovely and efficient :) $14 for 4 donuts + tip is not a bad deal! We got the diablos rex, chocolate coconut, maple glaze, raised glaze & homers. My partner said the latter three were incredible, and I loved the two chocolate ones! My sister and I each placed an order online for pick up at 10:45pm on a Tuesday night. It said they would be ready in 15-20 minutes. The location was about 15 minutes from the hotel, so that was fine. I got my son a regular glazed. I got a blueberry cake one and a maple old fashioned. I also got an ice coffee with mocha and oak milk. We arrived at 10:58pm. The inside area is decent in size but above average for a doughnut shop. With a stage, I assume that have live music at times. I enjoyed the pink decor and the artwork. There was a family in front of us. When it was our time, our order was boxed and ready but our coffee wasn't. The staff proceeded to make our coffees. The box is pink and appealing. When the coffee was ready, I did not like mine at all. It was nasty. I exchanged it for what my sister got (ice latte with caramel and oak milk). The remake tasted much better! I add the blueberry cake doughnut and it was as suspected but smaller. My son's glazed was huge! I ate the maple old fashioned the next day for breakfast. It was good. I'll note that with the wait time, I thought they made them fresh with each order. They were already made an on tray. Surprised my out of town bestie by taking her to Voodoo Doughnuts on 6th Street. Such a great vibrant donut spot. Midmorning on a Monday afternoon so plenty of parking. I like my coffee piping hot, we asked for a fresh cup when the first cup was served warm. They immediately took action and made two new freshly brewed coffees, still not HOT.
