Used to go here weekly but my kids got older and fell out of the habit. Stopped by this morning to pick up kolaches and donuts. The couple that own the shop were just as friendly as ever. Courteous and efficient in packaging the donuts and warming the kolaches. The donuts were great. Perfect icing and glaze application. Careful packaging meant they arrived home in great condition. The owners are a husband and wife duo, where the wife works the counter and the husband primarily works in the back. Grand Donut truly cares about quality, and it's clear in everything they serve--whether it's their classic donuts, creative seasonal offerings, kolaches, breakfast tacos, or breakfast sandwiches. This is not your average donut shop, it's exceptional. The breading on their kolaches is perfect. While I'm a regular fan of the sausage and cheese kolaches, I like to treat myself to a Boudin Kolache every now and then. If you've never heard of or tried a Boudin Kolache, then you're probably not from Houston or Louisiana. So, what is Boudin? It's a spicy Cajun sausage made with rice and meat--and trust me, it tastes way better than it sounds! If you aren't so daring, it's okay. I LOVE this place. I've been coming here for years. Its a small, family owned shop that makes their products fresh every morning. I got hooked years ago because of their cinnamon rolls. I still remember the first time i had it. It was freshly baked and i had to wait for them to cool a bit before they hand frosted them!!! Now, the cinnamon rolls are made different; and while they're not as good as the original there's plenty here that's phenomenal. The donuts themselves fall lighter than shipleys but a tad heavier than krispy kreme. They're just these perfect pillows. And if you're smart you'll get a pillow filled with lemon filling. That's my favorite. Its perfection. Then there's their breakfast sandwiches and kolaches. Honestly, there is no best here. Pick any one and you'll be satisfied. TRY THEM ALL!!! Its not gluttony when its for research purposes and to support local businesses :) Just know, it can get busy here. Especially on the weekend. But the line goes very quickly. This family has efficiency down to a science without ever sacrificing customer service. They're always pleasant and even remember what you like. Or maybe its just that I've been here so much. Came here early morning to grab some donuts and breakfast tacos for a friend's bday! And they were open at 7AM on a Wednesday. I love mom and pop donut shops. I got a box of 6 donuts for the bday crew, half a dozen donut holes (the lovely folks threw in an extra one on the house) and two breakfast tacos for myself. I didn't get a chance to eat any of their donuts, so that was a miss...but I heard it was yummy. They have salsa on the side (that's more like thicc pico salsa) for you to grab and go, as well as napkins and other add-ons for those who order drinks like coffee. This review is for their vegetarian breakfast tacos. The tacos aren't Tacodeli, Veracruz or Torchy's status, but they're great if you're looking for something quick to eat and you're in a rush. The vegetarian bfast taco option has egg, cheese and papas. It was a good portion size for what you pay, but I would have liked the cheese to have been melted and the taco to be a bit warmer. I love supporting local shops that are run by friendly awesome folks. Been meaning to try this place for a while. Went at 5:30 (very early in general, especially for me lol). Was greeted when I walked in and the nice lady was smiling while I was ordering the whole time. Clean inside and organized case of goodies. I ordered a bunch of kolaches, apple fritter, blueberry donut, and donut holes. Everything was warm and fresh! Flavors on point and the kolache dough was so light and fluffy. Best kolache I've had in Austin. Donuts were amazing too. Apple fritter was warm, and slightly crispy which is perfect. Overall this is the best spot for your donut/kolache fix! If the donuts were any better, I must have died and gone to heaven. I could eat a half-dozen just on the 2 mile drive home. OhMahGawd they're so good! The staff is always amazing and the prices won't break the bank. I'm not sure what they put in the donuts to make them so melt in your mouth perfect, but I bet it has something to do with love. These are easily the best donuts I've ever had. We just were driving through and I looked up donut places and this place popped up with good reviews so we decided to check it out. We got 3 different strawberry donuts and just as we were finishing they brought out a fresh tray of them so I had to get one more. The already made ones were delicious but the fresh one was absolutely phenomenal. It melted in your mouth and had the best flavor. We also got a chocolate one that was delicious.
