Fresh, local, cheap, what's not to love? I always get the classics here: glaze donuts, sugar donuts and cake donuts with sprinkles. They definitely don't disappoint. I also have to mention their lunch special, which is a cheeseburger, soda and fries for $6. The fries are nice and crispy and the burgers have barbecue sauce on them. It's a nice touch! I don't understand why this place doesn't have complete 5 star ratings. As other reviews pointed out, it's a family owned business, it sells doughnuts, drinks, coffee, and lunch items from hot dogs, hamburgers, to fries and I think even a BLT during lunch time. Although the décor isn't what you call modern, it's a bit old fashioned but that's what makes it pretty awesome. There are patrons from daily's to those one timers who are interested in the food and drink items and want a place to sit down and read the news, or even play lottery. Drink fridges are well stocked with items, almost never empty, and the eating area is very well taken care of. There is a wide selection of doughnuts to choose from and don't tell anyone but my favorite doughnut of all time is the Buttermilk doughnut.... Wait I just told all of world what my favorite is...oops Regardless, it's a very welcoming doughnut shop, also very well kept, clean and a nice place to sit enjoy a drink, doughnut, and watch the type of patrons that come in and out, and how well the owners treat them. I agree with many of the other reviews here. Donut Time, though a tiny little hole-in-the-wall is such a sweet place. The Chinese family who own it are wonderfully kind and generous, and make lovely simple diner fare that's better, fresher, and cheaper than anything you'll get from any fast-food chain. I guess the real treat, besides the simple tried-and-true food they serve, is just being waited on by, and talking with, the owners themselves, who certainly deserve more business than the fleet of locals who make up their loyal customer base. Now, I know some people enjoy, say, Al's Big Burgers, but overall, as one of the reviewers mentioned here, I find Donut Time's fare much more enjoyable. Of course, they don't have a huge menu and this certainly isn't health food or anything close, but if you're jones-ing for a good burger and fries or a grilled sandwich, in a very friendly and homey atmosphere, this is a great place to go. Oh, and the donuts are pretty delicious, too! In fact, I'd rather take home their glazed donuts (and plenty of other types) than those at Kingpin even. read more

The burger was tasty and, as another reviewer mentioned, tasted much fresher than those from fast-food burger places. Best Donuts in the Bay Area!!! I am not just saying that because my family has been coming here for over 30+ years, the owner remembers me when I was in diapers. I say this because I am a fatty myself and like to indulge in a good donut every now and then, and I've been disappointed many times, but never when coming here. Also when I have to be in the office early I usually stop by and buy a few dozen for everybody and when I'm running late and can't make here I have gone to a few other places that are closer to my office and everyone notices the difference in freshness and quality. This place is just a stone's throw from my pad and thank goodness! They serve up some of the best donuts in the area. Their glazed raised donuts just melt in your mouth--literally and they are especially good, fresh, right after they open early in the morning. The folks who run the place are all super-nice, too. I've also heard that their burgers & other grill faire are just as tasty, but have not tried them yet. As for the place itself, the old school atmosphere is everything I would hope to find within a donut joint. Best doughnuts around. I have never had better doughnut holes anywhere else. They have a great selection except after about 6pm they've run out of some of the fan favorites depending on the day. Monday through Saturday they serve lunch from 11am-3pm. Pretty standard- - turkey sandwiches, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, egg salad sandwich, tossed salad, grilled cheese, french fries. All the food had specific instructions (no mayo on the sandwiches, extra mayo and ketchup on the burger) and even though they were really busy they got it exactly right. Donut Time is easy to miss when passing by, but man was it worth the try. I was working a summer internship at El Cerrito City Hall and took my lunch break over at this plaza. I decided to grab a donut so I walked in to Donut Time. They instantly welcomed me, and I saw they served meals. I decided to order a chicken burger with fries, no relish and mustard on the burger. The food was absolutely amazing, but the service was what lead me to always come back. I make it a tradition to come back almost every week , and I order the same meal everyday, to the point where I walk in and sit down and they already know what I'm here for. hi! i am the premiere female homer simpson of the east bay. also, being a delivery person in the past, i've eaten fresh donuts everywhere in the east bay. this is my favorite donut shop. honestly, the first time ive been here, was at about 7 in the evening, i was passing by on my way home from Marshall's, (another great place!) and i felt so sad that there were donuts that would soon be on their way to the trash, being the end of the day. so i saved a few raised donuts, and they were soft and pull apart on the inside, the outside was the perfect amount of tan shell exterior. they introduced me to my newest donut obsession- plain raised with no glaze or anything! they held up well the next day, too!
