Childhood memories oh my, the donuts here are so fresh, simple, and delicious. I try to get em' early in the morning around when I think they'll be warm 8am. My faves are the crumb cakes, blueberry, and old fashion... besides the amazing little donut holes. I remember when a dozen was $3.25 the last time I got back it was over $7. Felt so hot after cherry picking, my friend recommended this place on our way back for some snow ice. I would definitely no guess that a place called "Donut Wheel" would have such good ice dessert, but this is really surprised me!!!--Their "snow miracle" is just too good to believe. Unlike more of the shaved ice that tastes like ice and then water with different artificial syrup flavor, this one the flavor is actually in the ice, and shaved in a particular way that tastes really really soft, nicely flavored and not too sweet, simply PERFECT! Even though we've been eating non-stop the whole day, we still had 4 bowls of ice. Just could not stop eating...really feels like snow in the summer, totally refreshing! Flavors we like the most: white peach, green apple, and coconut!!!!! People working there are super friendly and helpful, not to mention they open 24 hours! Stopped here for a treat after a wedding nearby. We shared: the red velvet and the crumb. I didn't realize the red velvet was so popular, since we didn't read reviews before coming here. Crumb cake donuts are my favorite, and this one was delicious. I liked the red velvet, but the hubby wasn't a fan. If I lived nearby, I'd definitely return. Divey little donut shop opens 24 hours with beyond friendly staff. And they have cronuts! I haven't been able to bring myself to eat another donut since the invention of the cronut and theirs are grade A! Their Hawaiian shaved ice is pretty good too. Apple fritters are dried and stale EVERY time I get one--this time I'll remember to never get it again. :) Last week I visited Donut Wheel. The lady behind the counter, aka cashier, just stared at me when I walked in. It's ok, I thought. Not everyone is friendly to strangers. And when I was trying to decide what to get, she wasn't very helpful--just stared at me while I tried to make polite conversation about the yummy offerings. But, when the next customer walked in behind me, the cashier immediately smiled and greeted her and kindly took her order. I mean, I actually flinched when I realized that the cashier DID have a voice, and could be prompted to make friendly conversation with a stranger--imagine that. She wasn't very nice to me, which would have been ok, if she also wasn't nice to the next customer. What's up with that? A 1 -2 to start donut place forsure. I have been here twice and neither time has been very good. The donuts are consumable. The place looks like it's about to fall apart. Their ceiling fan that looks like it is going to fly off of its hinges and today one of their Ultra visit lights who was flickering a bit. The staff was not at all polite without so much as a hello or a thank you either time. The place just had bad energy and attract people who are the same. If you want donuts here in Livermore, I would highly suggest the donut place off of railroad and Marietta right acorss from the Nob Hill in that shopping center. read more

I've been going to the Donut Wheel since I was a wee lass, and although I moved out of Livermore 10 years ago it is still, hands down, my favorite donut shop of all time. They have filled (raspberry and custard) donut holes, people. I have NEVER seen filled donut holes anywhere else, ever! They are the best. I've written sonnets to their custard. It's that good. I read the reviews before I went here because I had been craving a donut for a few weeks. Boy, did I make a mistake? I see that they are CASH only, so I walk around the corner to the local bank ATM. When I return, the employee on duty is on a personal call and does not even acknowledge me standing at the counter. She finishes up her call within 3 mins and comes over to see what I want to order. I decide to go with a maple bar and an old fashioned buttermilk donut. I had my niece and nephew with me. They each chose an old fashioned buttermilk donut as well. One kid went with regular milk and the other chose chocolate milk. It was 9am. The maple bar already tasted stale. I took a few bites and could not continue eating the rest. I moved on to the old fashioned buttermilk donut. It tasted like a very THICK, poorly made bundt cake. It probably should have been friend longer. It felt like it was baked. I took a few bites and had to toss it in the garbage. According to my niece and nephew, the regular milk was fine, but the chocolate milk tasted like it was expired. First doughnut I had here...I felt the muscles in my mouth contracting, I was confused at first, every bite I would take made my mouth.. happy, it became apparent to me that I was having a mouthgasm. Glazed doughnuts here will do that so becareful. I couldn't talk straight for a week. If it's not the doughnuts here that leaves you satisified the staff is very enegeric and happy, which is incredible for the amount of people who come in after hours with incredibly low IQ's and reaking of the smell of alcohol (Those brave souls, no idea how they do it.) After a 75 mile bike ride and some good mexican food and beer, donuts were the cherry on the top! We rolled in about 6pm and there were so many fresh donuts it was crazy. I started off with a maple bar that was sooo soft and warm it nearly melted in my hand before I could get it in my mouth. A friend order a chocolate cake donut with nuts and coconut and shared with us...awesome. Then as we were about to leave, with a baker's dozen of donut holes, they brought out and old fashioned looking cake things.There were plain, chocolate and glazed. We picked the glazed and it was so warm and so delicious, when it hit my lips it tasted so good...i nearly wet myself with glee. I will dream of this place until I once again return. Our last stop from our food adventure with Dishcrawl. This was our dessert stop. This donut shop I guess is a staple in Livermore that has been around for ages. Its a 24 hour donut shop and caters to the 5am construction worker; the mom and child strolling downtown during noon and the party goers until 3am in the morning. We had several samplings to choose from glaze, maple, old fashion chocolate to cherry, blueberry and donut holes. Didn't know how long the donuts have been made but it was about 9:45pm and my hubby and I wanted to try something different that we never had a donut shop. I also didn't think their glazed donuts could even compare to Stan's Donut Shop in Santa Clara. So we sampled the cherry and blueberry donut. It was good and very different. You really taste the cherry and the blueberry flavors and thought it was quite unique. The donut holes tasted like any donut holes that you can get at any donut shop. Supposedly they have a red velvet donut with cream cheese frosting but this was not part of our Dishcrawl sampling and I wished I had a choice to sample that as well. This donut shop sells a variety of other things such as ice desserts and shave ice. I give this spot a 3.5 stars for being 24 hours and carrying a variety of sweets. read more

I stopped in one evening while talking a walk with my fiance downtown. We were initially drawn in by the smell of the freshly made donuts. I ordered a chocolate old fashioned doughnut and a maple old fashioned doughnut. My fiance ordered a glazed old fashioned doughnut and a chocolate doughnut. They were delicious! I know the Donut Wheel has been in Livermore forever but there are so many better choices for donuts in Livermore. My favorite donut is the chocolate old fashioned and I didn't even finish the donut. I love the donuts and drink selection here. My only 2 complaints: - I was completely out of cash and their ATM was down. I had to drive to the bank and back to get cash, they NEED a debit machine. - The cashier was taking her sweet time and lolly gagging and wasn't too friendly. I personally don't like being given dirty looks by cashiers. I will return just for the food, but they make so much business that it wouldn't hurt them to have a debit machine, because the ATM machine isn't always reliable. read more

This is my first five star review and this place earned it!! We have now gone there three times while visiting my cousins in Livermore, and holy cow! Thank God there isn't one in Sacramento, I would weigh a thousand pounds, from eating them every day!! I know everyone has their favorite donut, but please just try the Glazed Doughnut, it's amazing!!! It smells like vanilla and funnel cake, and holy cow, it is the BEST! People that don't love the decor need to respect history! This building is straight out of WW2! It is a Quonset hut (Google it) and was originally a Safeway. Anyway, the two best items here are the cream-filled donut holes and the "strawberry" donut. I use parentheses because my whole life I thought the pink, fruity donut I was eating was strawberry-flavored. Went in the other day and asked for half a dozen. Lady looked at me confused and asked me "How many?" OK. Never mind. Six. I want six. It was 8:30am and the selection was already pretty picked over. I tried to get an assortment for my co workers but the way she shoved them all in one bag I decided to forgo getting one with nuts on top because I didn't want it to cross contaminate onto my sprinkles.
