The Donut Wheel, while not my favorite place to go for donuts, still gets a shiny gold star in my book just for nostalgia. Every memory I associate with the Donut Wheel is a good one. My first memory of the Donut Wheel was when I was about five, sitting in one of the vinyl seats, my face at nose-level with the tabletop. I had a powdered jelly donut sitting on a napkin and a pint of chocolate milk. Across the table from me sat my dad, holding a Parliament between his fingers and turning his head slightly, so as not to blow the curls of smoke near me (Hey, it was the 80s, people smoked still.). I would hold the jelly donut up to my five-year-old lips like a misshapen, circular cigarette and blow, hoping to make the powdered sugar dance like my dad's smoke. Unfortunately, all I managed to do was spray saliva-soaked powdered sugar all over my father's shirt and shove my thumb through the jelly part of my donut, turning it purple and sticky. My dad no longer smokes, but even just driving by the Donut Wheel, I can still smell that mix of coffee growing stale on the burner, donuts frying up golden brown in sizzling canola oil and the years of cigarette smoke that had absorbed into the paint. That might sound pretty awful to some people, but for me, that's my favorite smell in the world. read more

What has happened to our beloved donut wheel? Three separate trips recently i didnt get any donuts because the display case was bare. And i`m not talking about after some morning rush either. Yesterday i went in at 6:30 am and found nothing but sprinkle cake and a few raised donuts. No french. No old fashion. No bars. Nothing. For a business that claims to be open 24 hours they sure don't act like it. Perhaps they should just consider closing and then opening at a time they consumers need donuts. I have family in Livermore so I've only been to this amazing place once - but wow, it made an impact on me!! The snow miracle is literally the best tasting icy dessert on the planet. ANY flavor - is amazing! The coconut ice is the best. So creamy and fluffy. Strawberry ice + kiwi syrup = awesome!...I agree with a previous poster about the PB ice + Choco syrup.... My sister and I couldn't get enough of this stuff and we think of it often since. We live thisclose to NYC and there's nothing there even close to this. :) I miss it so.... love Snow Miracle! The first time I heard of Donut Wheel was when I first moved to Livermore as a child, and a teacher was literally using it to approximate distances to us, as in "oh a mile is like.... From here to Donut Wheel", which should give you an idea of how famous it is in the community. I've tried donuts from all over and none of them even come close to Donut Wheel. Nothing can surpass the fluffy, sugary goodness of a donut from here. I know i know. This town is in love with this place, and even my wife thinks is super cool. For me, I only like Donut Wheel, when I really need a Donut. Because well, there are no other options close. I'm sure if there were the quality of the dough would be much better. The place is not clean, the staff is always rude, they are not current on any equipment, and the baking is nothing special. So, if you REALLY need a Donut right now and you live in Livermore, then, there you go. If you don't and have an alternative, stay away. I have to update my review. I bring my 4 year old son here about 1-2 times a month for "donut date". We come mid morning (9-10 ish) and the donuts are always good now and the service is very friendly. They do take cash only, which isn't a big deal if you are prepared for it. I hardly ever carry cash, so my 4 year old and I have a little change jar we save all of our coins for donut date day :) They have a lot of regular customers, we often see the same people here all the time, and I definitely like that small town vibe and friendly service :) ! read more

Glaze on donuts is hard and flakey. Service is less than acceptable. Taste of donuts are greasy. Packaging of cream cheese topped donut was rough and ruined the topping. And the place smells like sewage inside. Not a good impression. read more

I feel a little misled and totally out of the Donut Wheel loop because I didn't get the warm and fuzzies when I checked out this joint. Granted, it's the only non-fast foody dining establishment within a 15 mile radius of Pleasanton that's open past 9 pm on a weekday AND it forced me and my fiance to venture out of our Pleasanton bubble. However, I wasn't especially impressed. I must have come on an off night. Or maybe the Donut Wheel didn't rock my taste buds as I expected based on previous reviews because a donut is just a donut until proven otherwise. The place is run down, only accept cash, the cashier is grumpy sometimes, the coffee sucks, it always looks dirty in there. So why the 4 stars? Open 24 hours, donuts taste great, I love the cream filled donut holes....and they've been around forever. It used to be that if you were to go to the Donut Wheel at any give time of day or night within an hour you would run into someone you know. It looks a little skecth I will admit but they provide tasty donuts. I think much like anyone else in Livermore the donut wheel provided me with my first donut. Note that these were all purchased before 7:00 in the morning! Krispy Kreme tastes much better. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME going to this place for donuts unless you have not had food in your system for 48 hours and it's 3:00 in the morning with no other place in sight to purchase food (because apparently they're open 24 hours) -- only then would I say go to this place because I would never wish to see anyone suffer from starvation. read more

Was on my way to the central valley on business, and randomly pick this donut shop based on reviews and easy location to find. I just happen to order two old fashion, one plain and the other glazed. These are GOOD, the glazed is packed with vanilla taste and very light, moisted and not dry out like others I had before elsewhere. Very 1950'ish. read more

I have loved this shop since I was a kid in Livermore. But on national donut day my family and I went to visit, only to be rudely told "we are out of donuts! Only bear claw left". I asked how long and again rudely told "one hour". Thanks for making my two year old cry by the way. I'm sure she picked up on her rudeness. Two year olds just love to be told "No". And how do you run out of donuts on National Donut Day anyway?? Poor preparation and poor customer service = Zero Patronage. Easily The best Donuts in town. Open 24/7. Has been in Livermore forever. You need to get there early on the weekend otherwise the pickings can be slim. Doughnuts were old an stale tasting. Service was horrible, and the flies were relentless. The older women that served us had a major attitude, and questioned us about the change we were owed. So we convinced her to give us an extra doughnut (before we tried them of course) she physically threw the doughnut in the bag, and gave us a dirty look as if we had done something wrong by asking for our change. I came across this booth at the Halal Festival this past weekend and saw that there were FROZEN BANANAS. The guy selling it told me he thought this was one of the best frozen bananas around. I would have to agree. I've had the famous frozen bananas on Balboa Island for some reason, the frozen bananas here taste much more delicious. They're not as hard and the banana tastes more fresh. I don't know what chocolate they use but that tastes delicious too and easy to break--it doesn't just crack all over the place. Regular chocolate covered frozen bananas are $3 and if you want a topping like nuts or oreos, it's an extra $1. read more
