Amazing donut/ice cream shop just off of the Duck boardwalk! The service is the best I've ever experienced! The family that owns is SO SWEET and friendly! The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity that you get. In my opinion, they carry the best ice cream in the area. It's Hershey's, but it's nice and fresh! Been coming to the outer banks for over 10 years. Never been to this place before... my cousin and I rode our bikes over there to get a nice milkshake. Our expectations were blown out of the water by these guys and girls. Our shakes were amazing, I got the mint Oreo and he got peach. The prices all seemed reasonable and they had many other ice cream, shakes, and other speciality items. A girl in front of us got a banana split and it looked heavenly. We tried it for the first time. We went in around 10am and were lucky enough to get gluten free. I tried calling a bunch of times over the span of 2 days to order ahead of time but no one ever answered. I'm not sure how you can preorder via phone if they never answer. There were a couple of people ahead of me and the line moved slow. The older guy behind the counter was very short and snippy with the people in front of me when they asked about the vegan donuts. I got to the counter and he announced that he was going to fill an order. Didn't look at me at all or say "someone will be right with you." I was a bit confused about the situation. Was he trying to avoid me? I stood there for a good amount before anyone acknowledged us or took our order. The donuts were ok but I do not understand the stick. The donuts fall right off. -2 stars because the donuts didn't cause a celiac reaction and are better than the frozen GF ones. -Minus 3 stars for the negative environment and poor customer service. read more

We found our new favorite dessert place in the outer banks. The donut concoctions are amazing. Our personal favorite is the donut sundae! There are so many different donut and ice cream flavors to choose from. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place for you. Our only complaint is that they are closed on Sunday AND Monday! Came for gluten free donutz for my wife & 4 little ones. As others have noted, it is best to order these ahead of time which we did. Although I am not really a donut fan myself I couldn't help but get a couple 'regular' donuts for myself when I picked up the gluten free. The staff was very pleasant both on the phone & in person, and the donuts were delicious. The process for gluten free donuts is a little unclear (they come in from a different facility later in the morning, your best bet is to preorder to make sure you get what you want) but the wait is worth it! Really delicious and unique, cake like donuts. read more

I've been coming here for years for vegan donuts. In past years, I've been able to call ahead and reserve an allergen-friendly donut. After calling for a day and sending a message through Instagram and their website, and receiving no response to any of my attempts, we drove over to pick one up. There is indeed a sign on the door stating that employees may not be wearing masks. Long line of customers, half with masks under their noses and some with chin guards. Ridiculous. This business is not COVID compliant - I'm not sure how they're advertising curbside pickup when they don't seem to be taking orders over the phone. Take your business elsewhere. read more

The website made it clear we had to order them ahead of time as I believe they're made in a different facility, a bit of a nuisance but was glad they take the proper precautions against contamination. I was a little worried about covid regulations in store based on other reviews, but when I went everyone (customers and employees) were masked up and appeared to be safe. I tried to call to place the order like 8 times and they never picked up nor did they take messages. So my dad and I decided we had to just go in to place the order. When we went in the guy taking our order told us they weren't allowed to pick up the phone while there was a line.... so they never picked up the phone. Seems like a silly rule but not the end of the world. We placed our order for the dozen gf donuts and selected a time to pick them up when they would be ready in 2 days. While we were there we decided to pick up some of the regular donuts for the non celiacs of the crowd to try and ordered two different types. The regular donuts seem to be made fresh on site (much like duck donuts) and topped to order. We thought we had ordered two donuts but I guess bc the whole "donutz on a stick thing" two orders meant 4 donuts, 2 of each kind sharing a stick. So when we got the order total of almost $50 for 16 donuts we kinda thought that my ordering a dozen donuts we had actually ordered 2 dozen. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) that was not the case and the donuts were just a bit pricey. They were really good and enjoyed by all but they should definitely post their prices in a more clear way. We were encouraged to try Donutz On A Stick by a friendly neighbor, but my family and I were disappointed with the outcome. We walked up to the storefront to be met by a mass of people, mostly without masks and no social distancing anywhere. The situation did not change once we made it into the store. There were no markings on the floor and no signs anywhere encouraging, or even acknowledging, social distancing guidelines. Many other businesses in the area have maximum occupancy signs posted at their doors, but there was no such thing at Donutz on a Stick (and I would guess there were more people in the store than there should've been - there were about 20 customers in there the whole time were were inside). About half of the employees either had no masks on or had them pulled down under their chin to make speaking easier. The store also has a "cash discount" policy, so your total cost is higher if you pay with a credit card. This policy is in complete opposition to the public health recommendations against using cash, as it cannot be cleaned. As for the ice cream: it was fine, but nothing special. Definitely not worth the 45-minute wait. They put stickers over the Hershey's label on the ice cream canisters, so it seemed like they were trying to pass off a store-bought product as a homemade one. The two positives I can offer from this experience were that the employees moved quickly to fulfill orders, and they offered a wide variety of treats to choose from (including ice cream and doughnut flavors). Perhaps you shouldn't expect great ice cream from a donut shop that also misspells the name of their product, but our group had pretty low opinion of the ice cream here. I've now gone 39 years before knowing ice cream could be bad. The person in our group who ordered peach ice cream kept asking "is this peach?" I wanted something with fruit, but the Pineapple sundae was more of a pineapple syrup sundae on pretty flavorless ice cream. I had trouble finding where the ice cream ended and the styrofoam bowl started. My wife ordered"moose tracks ", which was surprisingly flavorless as well. Might better termed "like eating the vacuum of space but colder." The "flavored milk" they advertise sounded unique and interesting too, but from what we could tell the only flavors they have and "plain" and "chocolate." Hey, they could boast about this at my elementary school cafeteria too! All joking aside, the milk shakes we ordered were good, the staff were very friendly, the store is cute and has lots of Knick-knacks and toys. Our group did have a lot of fun joking about the ice cream though, after tossing some of it half-eaten into the trash. Went here twice on my recent trip to Duck. Very friendly and fast service considering the lack of workforce in Duck and the fact that they make the donuts to order! Unfortunately i was not able to try the donuts because I am gluten free- you need to order about a week in advance for vegan/gf donuts. I did, however have two small soft serve twists on a gluten free cone that were awesome! Their scooped ice cream is clearly labeled gluten free. They serve up a very healthy portion size- the small cone was enough for this ice cream lover! read more

Those with allergies beware! Our family visited on a busy night to grab ice cream and pre-order our egg free, gluten free donuts, for our son with allergies. An ingredients list was not available due to a 'proprietary recipe' but we were assured that our allergies would be addressed. We were never asked to list all our allergies, which generally include eggs, wheat and assorted nuts. Soy and dairy are not allergens for our family. All gluten free / vegan donuts are pre-paid, so we ordered ice cream (sorbet for those with allergies) and paid up front for donuts (minimum of 6, so $20) and planned to pick them up at 10:30 am, the time they are first available the next morning. At time of pick up, with no line and more time, we arrived to discover that, at a minimum, cooking sprays and cross contamination prevented us from being able to eat the donuts advertised as gluten free and egg free (vegan). The ingredient list is still unknown, but through conversation with the available staff, it showed that they were not knowledgeable about food allergies. I would strongly caution anyone with allergies from eating their donuts. Refunds are not available. This is my first review I've written online, but felt compelled to share our experience with others. Update after receiving Owners Response: Lecithin is a product that is known to potentially contain egg proteins. By including this in your 'egg free' donuts, you are exposing the product to those with allergies.
