First off, shoutout to Sabi/Savi; he provides excellent customer service and great recommendations! Baby! Doomie's has some of thee best, not just vegan TexMex/Mexican food, but vegan food, in general. Their plant-based proteins are spot on! I ordered the nachos(chips) and 1 chicken/pollo flauta. The nachos were a large portion, lots of toppings, lots of flavor! I added carnitas which took it to the next level! And the flauta, oh my goodness, more deliciousness. My friend was laughing at me because of my reactions while eating, so I guess it was visible and audible how much I enjoyed my food. My friend is not vegan and really enjoyed her tacos and what she had of my nachos. Doomie's NextMex is definitely a must for whenever I visit Los Angeles! Hello World! This seems like very good place to come when you're high because of the heavy, savory nature of the food and the colorful vibes of the decorations. All of their meats are soy based except for the carnitas that is mushroom (delicious btw) I got the 3 taco plate w rice and beans! My taco choices were carnitas and Korean bulgogi. $21 total w/ tip after I added guacamole. You order on a mobile screen here and they'll text you when it's done. When I opened the taco box, I was bit taken aback because in the there was nothing added except the "meat" and guacamole. From their pictures, it seems like there was extras like onions, sauce, garnish, etc When I asked Devon about this, he was understanding and willingly remade the taco for me. Shoutout Devon! Overall the tacos were good flavor wise, but a little "meat" heavy. Perhaps it felt that way bc I'm used to typical meat that lies to ur body about being full If I were to come again, I'd probably go for something lighter like the chicken tenders and fries. If you are looking for healthy vegan food, this isn't it. If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this also isn't it. But if you are looking for scrumptious craveworthy Mexican style delicacies, this is it! I hadn't been here in a while, but found myself down the street craving it and I love how they are open late! Even better, they have a giant parking lot with free parking, which often feels like a rarity in Hollywood! When I arrived, it was nearly empty, but I wasn't surprised as it was rain storming in LA! I ordered the crunch wrap which I did not regret! Despite the name, it actually was more soft and warm and gooey. There was a fantastic queso sauce that was spread generously in the tortilla and oozed out when I cut into it. The beans were well seasoned and hearty! Their carnitas are probably my favorite carnitas from anywhere. The flautas are good as long as they dont have a ton of sauce that makes them soggy. I usually just go for the carnitas tacos though yum. If you want them spicy make sure to take something to spicen then up. read more

A trip to Hollywood does wonders for the hungry. We've been here at NextMex plenty of times. We love how this little vegan restaurant offers a menu of wonderful Mexican food. Yes, you read that...vegan. Step inside and you entered an over the border Tijuana style decor. Navigate the kiosk for making selections that make your taco or burrito or nachos an over the top experience. My half and half fries/Chips with Chicken and easy additions of cheese and tomato and cilantro was a definite Nachos winner. The lovely missus took advantage of an order of the Vegan Chicks chicken wings with Korean sauce and it comes with a slice of bread with pickles and some fries. Perla of next door Doomie's Home Cookin helped us get the order to the kitchen where a good natured hard working chef did his magic. He brought our orders in containers with napkins and utensils. It was a yummy feast and my snack at NextMex was really a bountiful abundance of great mix of unique and tasteful gathering of vegan cornucopia of ingredients. Tonight, I went to go pick up my order, and got yelled at by the angry middle aged man (wearing all black) in the kitchen. He didn't hear me say the first name of the order. I read off my order which matched the receipt attached to the bag. He asked me for a name, and I said the last name of the order this time instead of the first name. He yelled "No,no,no,no, that's not what you said!" I told him that's exactly what I said, and he got super mad. He then explained that he doesn't type out the last name on the receipt. Somehow it was my fault that this restaurant doesn't put last names on pick order receipts. He would be a lot less angry if he was more professionally detailed. The bar for customer service is so low, it's in Hell. I understand why most of the restaurants in the strip mall NextMex is located in are closed down, if the customer service was as bad in the closed restaurants, as what I experienced tonight at NextMex. I apologized to him, just so he could cool down. If he was as passionate about his food as he was his attitude, maybe the food wouldn't be bland. The portions are big. The food looks fantastic, but once you bit into it, there's a reason they give you a lot of hot sauce. It's very deceptive. There are so many other good restaurants on Vine Street that serve similar food. They call it NextMex, because you should say Next, and order from an actually good restaurant. Massive portions for a great price. Sheesh! Every time I visit LA, I always try to visit at least 1 new spot I haven't visited before. Doomie's popped up while searching for restaurants in the Hollywood area. A fully vegan taqueria that specializes in the hefty & hearty? Let's go! I brought my friend here who is a a huge foodie but hasn't tried much vegan food. You order either online or through the touch screen POS systems and then take a seat and wait for your order. The interior is a little bare-boned with just a few tables and booths, but the ceiling is lined with pinatas, making it colorful. We both landed on the same item - the fully loaded wet-style chimichanga with chicken. This thing is an absolute unit of a burrito! Fork & knife are definitely needed. I was only able to eat 1/3 and my friend took down 2/3. Perfect for two meals! I liked the texture of the chicken as it shredded nicely. Everything is so saucy and savory, this is definitely a comfort meal that will fill you up so come hungry. The only thing I didn't like is that the food is served in styrofoam containers. It's not sustainable, but also is so flimsy that when you cut into your food with the plastic fork & knife (which are also the cheaper/flimsier kind), you risk cutting a big hole in the bottom and making a huge mess. I wish you could choose 'dine-in' as an option and get it served on real plates with cutlery. However, in the end if you want tons of food that is filling and comforting for a good price, Doomie's is the place to go. Their sister restaurant is right next door and specializes in more fatty comfort vegan food such as fried chicken & burgers. Yum! That will be on my list for next time. read more

I'm a chef , and I'm vegan . I expect good quality , great tasting dishes when i decide to eat out . Well this week i bet a 100$ on this place , and honestly people must not know how to cook , or don't have quality taste bu I was excited. Hungry. Hopeful. But what I got? Straight-up disappointment in takeout form. Let's start with the fried chicken--bland, weird texture, no crunch, no flavor. Just a sad, flavorless sponge. I was hyped for it too total letdown. Then came the quesadilla. Looking at the menu, it looked and sounded like the star of the show. I was like, "Okay, this one might slap." But nope. That was a bold-faced LIE. It tasted exactly like soggy cardboard. And I mean exactly. Like that weird, wet cardboard smell? That's the flavor. I gagged and spit it out immediately. Mac and cheese? Don't even get me started. It was hyped up as some updated "to die for" recipe. Well, I nearly died from the taste--liquid smoke overload and cheap vegan cheese that clings to your tongue like regret. Now, the tacos and the shrimp? Okay fine, they were decent. The "shrimp" had a good firm bite and tasted fresh. That's literally the only reason this place isn't getting zero stars (if that were possible). As for the vegan chicken--who approved this? I've had incredible vegan chicken before, the kind with crevices, seasoning, a crispy edge, and sauce for days. This one? A bland square. No flavor, no texture, no soul. I ordered the carne asada burritto wet style. They have tables inside and outside plus free parking. Once my order was ready I could not wait to make my food disappear. I simply love that they take Mexican cuisine and reintroduce it as vegan. Get your pallets ready and culture your tastebuds. The food was great, I am not a vegan and found the carnitas taco really good once I added some lime. The chicken flauta was beautiful and so crispy! The "chicken" was a good light texture. The ambiance was minimal, it's a cute place but there was no music and my friend and I talking seemed to echo in the place. I also would have been waaaay happier if there was some hot sauce and salsa around. There was one guy handing out orders and you had to wait for him to help you if you want anything "extra" at all like napkins or salsa or lime so it was a little annoying and I went without because he kept saying one minute so he could help others. We used to order doomies and their next mex location almost weekly and now, for the past year our choice to order from here diminished. Something changed because every order turned out have a problem. I always ordered a burrito and everytime now, the item is made incorrectly. They litterlly have check boxes on what you want removed if anything and they seem to ignore it. This mean I have to pick out what is marked to remove and I am sick of it. This place was love at first bite for me! Yes it's a bit daunting the thought of vegan tacos but believe me these are HEAVEN on a tortilla! I got the three taco combo: Al pastor, asada and carnitas. It came with rice and beans which were super delicious. The tortillas were fresh made and they didn't skimp on the filling. I also got the fried capirotada which was a HUGE piece (definitely shareable) and came with a side rub if whipped cream. I ate everything and was SO stuffed pretty much for the remainder of the day so even tho there was no meat, it was super filling. So many options & variety, love me an all vegan Mexican restaurant!! Yessssss!! Chili Verde is my favorite in taco form. I do think they could go crispier on the texture of their meats, they all are really soft and sort of mushy, but the flavors are incredible. The nachos rock and so do the taquitos! Try them with the Roja salsa. Although I do have to say their rice & beans are not the best IMO. The rice lacks flavor, while their smoky refried beans are really sour. read more

I'm not sure if the owner is aware of this but I would really love if he could fix this situation. Food: Yup! Delicious! For those who avoid soy, they have very limited soy-free options - but it is possible. Basically stick to carnitas (mushroom) and remove cheese and cream on the dishes. The beef taquitos are mushroom base, so they're soy-free too. The fried artichoke Baja style's batter contains soy, for an option w/ less soy. Loved everything I got & would order it again: The guac & chips, extra salsa verde, 3 taco combo with 2 carnitas and 1 fried artichoke, & beef taquitos. I gave it the benefit of the doubt thinking that perhaps it was just the dish I ordered one time--but I tried other items on other dates and the same result happened. I'm sick to my stomach as I type and feel incredibly nauseous. I don't know if it's because perhaps the food isn't fresh? Perhaps it's being stored too long and past the expiration date? The faux meat felt off, the sour cream old, and it's just bad... Makes me sick to think about it. I'm astonished this place has a single five-star review at all, to be honest. I highly suggest if you want a good and authentic vegan Mexican food experience, go to Cena Vegan. The chefs are and have been for about half a year hit or miss. Sometimes, all good, just what we want, proportions all right, yum. Sometimes, way way waaay too much salt. Next Mex got me feeling like a food lush in all the right ways.... Came in the other day on a sunny spring Sunday afternoon for "brunch." Bae (it's new so yes it's okay to use bae... stop judging me) and I had never been, but had just done Doomie's next door a few nights prior. Upon blowing in we noticed the A/C on perfect... a seat yourself, ordene aqui/order here and pick up here signs all placed perfectly... everything is self served... not even severs... just you a touch order pad and whatever your heart desires... a cool salsa bar, water dispenser and napkin/cutlery area/stations.... they don't accept cash, because there is no cashier... so have a card or android or apple pay. Hyping up the decor... I loved the mini pinatas and lights above the front half of the restaurant... as well as the giant faux next mex taco on the wall. The seating is a little funky being that most tables are alongside a long booth bench and/or connected which means you can make new friends when it's packed as they'll be dinning literally two feet away from you. We ordered our feast on the first touch screen and took our time... the guys behind us didn't seem in a rush, but there are two touch screens for anybody who might encounter a busy situation or line forming. I had to have the wet burrito and the nacho fries were and are a MUST, probably the show stealers, even though everything is great and we added a taco (carnitas) to have a full experience... oddly enough two other orders came out before us with the EXACT combination... though we got "pollo" in our wet burrito... so definitely try a variety and with friends or a date, in my case. Even though we didn't have much service the cooks and staff were very friendly handling our food and ask if we had any questions and pointed us in the direction of all the stations. Will have to come back soon for Doomie's Next Mex as well as Doomies. Fun fact is you can order at one and dine inside the other and use the Doomie's bathrooms since Next Mex doesn't have a public bathroom. Was super excited to reorder the artichoke tacos and they were teeeerrrible. They didn't hit like they did last time, didn't know why til I picked it apart and saw the artichoke was super burnt and almost non existent so it was almost 5 bucks for mostly batter...I ordered four of them . They packed the wrong sauce, the flauta was super soggy which honestly my bad for getting it delivered but if you know something isn't gonna hold up don't put it on your to go menu.
