Should have been better. I'm so tired of excuses that it's busy cause it's Summer. This is what you are....a restaurant in a Summer location. It is what it is, train your staff better. It's Tuesday (July 4th is this Thursday) and already they're basket cases. Again, it is what it is. You do 90% of your business in July and August, staff up! Yes, the outside dining area is still nice as when it was Tutto years ago. And the food was good (not amazing, but still very nice). But the staff and lack of a warm welcome atmosphere from the staff just annoys me when I'm dropping $150-$200 without ordering much. I'm just so fed up with slacking staff that you need to ask 2-3 times non stop for water, or bread, or more water when your glass is sitting empty for 10 minutes. No thank you, no goodbye, no feeling that they could care less you even dined there. We'll stick with our favorite places like Almond and Bell & Anchor that never disappoint even when they're slammed which is always. read more

Very disappointing and snooty service with a high price tag. I went to Dopo on the morning of my intended dinner to make an in-person reservation (my phone kept getting a busy signal). The hostess told me she could make a reservation at 8 pm indoors. While we're still very much in the midst of Covid, the restaurant has fairly spread out tables in the dining room, so I said okay. When my boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant that evening, we were sat in a connected bar room, a few feet from the bar itself. Clearly a table for walk-ins rather than reservations. The waitress immediately came over for drink orders, but we said we needed a few minutes to read the menu, so she left. Soon, more and more patrons packed into the tiny bar area, crowding our area. It already wouldn't have been ideal if we weren't in the pandemic, as it was hot and poorly ventilated, but due to the current circumstances, we became more and more anxious. 20 minutes later, with no check-in from our waitress, I went to find the host to see if we could be moved to a table where we would be more comfortable. I was told that we were at a VIP table, but that they would do their best. No one followed up with us until our waitress finally returned to take our orders. She also said that there were no tables to move us to. My boyfriend went outside to speak to the hosts again, and he was rudely told that we should be happy we have a table at all. We promptly left the restaurant, after drinking water for 30 minutes with no help from the staff whatsoever. This was unacceptable behavior, particularly given the price point. read more

I was excited to try this place as I was a huge fan of Tutto and italian food in general. I was visiting my mom for the weekend and I thought Dopo would be the perfect place for a nice lunch. I was mistaken. The service was terrible. While we both speak perfect English, they assumed we didn't because of my mom's thick accent when she spoke to the hostess. We never saw a server. The wait staff decided to send the spanish speaking bus boy to take our entire order. That was a terrible idea because not only was it offensive, but he didn't know how to be a server. He took our drink order then came back 15 minutes later with our drinks and took our appetizer order. The appetizer eventually came out and he decided to come 30 minutes later for our entre order. We waited over 45 minutes between finishing our app and our entre. Our empty dishes sat there the entire time. We watched as the servers (clearly in a different uniform than the person serving us, who was the same person clearing the tables) were kind and attentive to the other 2 tables in the restaurant. It was highly offensive. I was so upset that I couldn't even enjoy my meal. Not only was the service horrible, but the food was subpar and pricey. The only thing I really enjoyed was the panacotta and the espresso. We also waited around 30 minutes after we finished our coffee and dessert for someone to walk by us to ask us if we'd like the check. I would understand this level of service if the restaurant had been packed. But we were 1 of 3 tables on a Sunday afternoon. We were completely ignored and looked on while other patrons enjoyed their time and I feel that it was because we don't look like the type of people who could afford that restaurant because of my mom's accent and the color of our skin. Well, we can afford that restaurant and we still left a nice tip just to prove that we can. I will never go back and I don't recommend it to any locals who expect to be treated properly. We've lived in East Hampton for over 20 years and never have we been treated that way at a restaurant. We truly felt like we didn't belong. My tip is to stick with what you know. Terrific dinner in Sag Harbor! First of all, the outdoor seating is beautiful and very spacious, with a remote-operated covering overhead in case of rain. Second, the food was delicious. Exactly nine years after meeting my wife in Sag Harbor, we returned to this quaint restaurant in Sag Harbor. Back then it was called "Tutto Il Giorno" (all day long"). Still under the same owner, it's now called "Dopo La Spiaggia" (after the beach). And we did come after the beach and were (actually "are" since we are still here as I'm typing) very satisfied. My wife, Simona, had the pasta with clams (trenette)... She is from Italy and is usually disappointed in the pasta with clams in the US. But here, she says is the best she has had in the states, and I tried it to confirm. It was fantastic! I had the trofie pasta with pesto. I was very happy with mine as well. The setting was peaceful and chic. The service was prompt and kind. The owner was friendly. They gave us no resistance to bring our dog with us. We are very happy with this choice!! read more

A bunch of girlfriends and I came on a Sat night in July at 7pm and despite the 'no reservations' policy were able to be seated straight away at a beautiful table inside. It was busy but not totally full. The food and cocktails were unbelievably amazing!!! The server was fine - attentive and answered all our questions, though could have been a little warmer. Our food/drinks came out at a good pace and up until this point we were having an amazing time and it was going to be a 5 Star review, then this happened... It was 8:15pm and we had just ordered another round of cocktails and desserts. Our server came over and quietly spoke to my friend at the end of the table to say there was a reservation at 8:20pm and we had to leave straight away. What the!!! Who has a reservation at 8:20pm??? Such a weird time, plus they don't take reservations??? When she came back with the check I questioned how it was possible since they had a 'no reservation' policy. She said it was a VIP reservation and they needed a table for 6 people (there were other tables, but they only seated 4). I then said why were we not told when we were seated. All she said was 'sorry I'll let the hostess know'. Our drinks and desserts came which we finished quickly feeling very upset about what had happened - it completely ruined our happy evening. We left the table at 8:30pm. A few of us then joined the bathroom line (there's only 1 toilet for all guests). There were already about 5 people in the line in front of us and then a few people joined behind us. Our server then said to us and only us 'you can use the public bathroom across the road if you don't want to wait'. Maybe if we hadn't just been kicked off our table we would have thought she was just trying to be helpful, but now we felt like we were being kicked out of the restaurant as they didn't want us to see the table. Why only tell us? I was the last one of our group to leave the restaurant at 8:50pm (30 mins after the supposed reservation). Our table was set up for 3 people (not 6) and was empty. We left with our dinner ruined and feeling very unhappy. I was telling a friend (who was not there on the night) about our experience and she said had they offered to move us to the bar and shouted us a glass of wine/sparkling each or taken a discount off the bill we would have left so much happier, which is extremely true. I get it, it's Sag Harbor and if a VIP calls to say they're coming for dinner everyone jumps and they want to give them the best table. However they shouldn't treat the rest of their guests like dirt in the process. I highly recommend they review their VIP procedures!!!!! read more

we had dinner on a gorgeous Sunday evening July 29th. We sat outside and had such a wonderful dinner, nice bottle of wine and listened to a selection of fantastic, very cool music. Eric, the maitre d was so warm and wonderful while we waiting for our table as was the hostess, Stephania. With the "backdrop" of the harbor and the yachts and little fireflies flickering above, being here was MAGICAL. A table for six on a Wednesday at 7:30. Inside was not crowded in the least, in spite of the rainy forecast which closed the patio. I should have been suspicious. Overpriced, mediocre food served by indifferent waitstaff Sadly, this great space, formerly "The Laundry" (for many years an East Hampton restaurant institution), has become just another sub-standard restaurant that I would be surprised if it lasted another season or two. With prices for pasta nearly $30 or more a plate, one might expect thoughtful, well-executed dishes. The night we went, we had a barely-average bolognese, a clam "sauce" that had no sauce (and clams that were not local eastern Long Island clams, but rather, imported cockles), and lackluster salads. My neighborhood Brooklyn Italian restaurant has better food than this at one-half the price. Throw in waitstaff that barely appeared, and acted as if they had better places to be when they did. They probably could have sold us another bottle of wine had they bothered to ask. read more

Tonight was our 2nd time in one week eating at DOPO. When we came last week we had to wait about 15 minutes for an outside table on a great night out. The maitre d' (Eric) sat us and we had a great dinner. When ever I see Black Squid Pasta on a menu I usually order it. Well that dish was just about the best black squid pasta I have ever eaten. I truly have never written a review before but after tonight I feel I must. I have eaten at Dopo a few times throughout the years, the food has always been great but the service has always been terrible. This time it was worse than ever. The owner sat us at 5pm and at 6:45 my table was done with our meal and enjoying our last cocktail for the evening. At this time the owner came to the table asking us to order our meal because of Covid, we stated we had already finished our meal and are having our last cocktail. Which we found very confusing and slightly odd seeing as he sat us 1 hour and 45 minutes prior. He said "oh wrong information" and left but at this point, between the terrible service and now the owners request for us ordering food after we had already finished our meal we just felt pushed to leave and unwanted. We confronted the owner as we were leaving with our discomfort in the evening and he had nothing to say aside from "my mistake". Honestly such an uncomfortable time and am so disappointed my friends and I did not have a remotely good experience at this restaurant. Very upset with the restaurant. I asked for a simple change to a pasta dish and they would not accommodate it. It's seem that the chef is too arrogant here to allow a guest to add grilled chicken to a pasta dish ?? Server said people ask all the time but chef won't do it. Well I think the chef should get off his high horse and take care of his customers. Not like your a bargain. Overpriced. Got the steak instead which was average for 40 bucks. We left hungry and unfulfilled .. seafood stew was small, fishy smelling and tasting and loaded with empty shells (prawn and clam) there were 2 chunks of some barely edible white fish, one shrimp and 3 or 4 calamari rings - thats its. there was a very pretty fried flatbread sculpture on top - we don't eat gluten or fried food so we didn't try that. Dopo La Spiaggia is by far the best Italian restaurant in the Hamptons. The pasta's are cooked perfectly, the salads are fresh, the burrata is amazing - I could go on and on. The service here is impeccable from start to finish. The maitre d' Eric has a way of making everyone feel important and the waitstaff does the same. They are attentive and mindful in making the dining experience like no other. I love that the waitstaff has been there for years - it feels like family whenever I walk in. I've been wanting to try this restaurant since last summer. Never had the opportunity, since it's so busy during the summer season. This weekend we finally had the opportunity. Unfortunately we were disappointed. First the hostess and our waitress were definitely not the friendliest. The waitress had no personality and had a bit of an attitude. Oh well. If I loved our food I would of just ignored them and not wrote this review. But!! My daughter ordered the burrata for an appetizer. This is something we have had many times. Burrata is a soft cheese when cut open. That's what makes it so good. Well this was hard as if it was a little frozen. My daughter ate it anyway, although I wish I would of said something. My pasta was good and my husbands fish was just ok and my little one had chicken fingers that were descent. I guess I am annoyed that a restaurant that I wanted to try for so long , was not worth the wait! Do you not have your best employees working in February? We won't be back. 6:30pm reservation on Saturday night. My husband and I are a reserved, attractive, well dressed, polite married couple in our fifties. We ordered on a timely basis and ate at a normal pace. However, waiter and other server tried to take my appetizer plate away at least 3-4 several times when I was clearly not finished. The same thing happened with the main course, where they once again, they tried to take my plate away 3-4 times, while I was still eating my meal (I am not a slow eater!). The food was so-so and was fairly expensive for what it was. The waiter brought the check at the same time that he brought dessert, my husband paid the bill when they came back for it a few minutes later. They then tried to take the half finished bowl of gelato away when I was still working on it. At this point we had been there for a little more than an hour, when the waiter came over and told us that he had to leave, since they needed the table. I checked when I left and there were plenty of open tables for two and there was no one waiting to be seated.
