Before entering, you see a couple of tables for outdoor dining which is a nice touch on a summers evening. As you enter, you get this old world tavern feel with wood planks on the ceiling, a beautiful beast where you can sit for a drink and food if you choose and then multiple rooms with tables. We sat at a table in the bar. For starters, they bring you a basket full of these most sliding garlic knots!!!! I could do some damage with that for sure! Kerry out waitress have is some great suggestions before ordering. I ordered the baked stuffed clams which were delicious and overstuffed. I could have used a little more juice on top of the clams. I was surprised that they were served in tinfoil clam shells.... But that didn't stop me from enjoying them. We also ordered the spinach salad which was a nice place of fresh greens with a warm bacon dressing and mushrooms. For dinner, I ordered the seafood pasta (Frutti di Mar) which was delicious however in being honest, it could've used more pasta. Basically I got 4 fork twirls . A little more pasta would've been very impressive. The calamari, shrimps mussels and clams were delicious as well. We also ordered the linguine carbonara which was creamy and delicious with that nice smoke flavor from the pancetta. My wife enjoyed the fettuccini Alfredo. All in all, everything was delicious. We had a large party of 15 for dinner and we were amazed by the quality of service provided by our server, Kelly. We have been coming here for a long time and we can honestly say that the service provided by her was exceptional. Had dinner with friends on Saturday. Excited to go because it's a long standing restaurant... famous. Wanted to see what all the talk was about... Firstly, it's cozy. My husband and I ate at this moderately priced Italian restaurant last night. It's got a homey vibe with linen covered tables in separate dining areas. Hanging from the ceiling are dozens of wrapped vintage wine bottles. Though somewhat fancy, it's casual enough to wear shorts and flip flops with a button down. The food though... seriously, we had our best meal at Sag there!!! The garlic knots were warm and super tasty. The gluten free bread also came out freshly baked and super buttery. Going gluten free is difficult but if this place was closer to us, my husband would be in heaven. I ordered the salmon which came with a unique brandy peppercorn sauce. It was unbelievably delicious. I ordered plain white rice with it and garlic sautéed spinach which complemented it perfectly. My husband ordered the veal scaloppini which had strips of prosciutto with it drenched in a Marsala sauce. His gluten free meal was outstanding! Our waitress Jessie G made several wise recommendations for food and drink choices. It was clear she knew the menu throughly, and after hearing our dietary restrictions, she flawlessly considered everything and pointed us in the right direction. Thought we would try Capuccino, was easy to get a table without a reservation. We knew the restaurant had been around for years and thought we would try it. The staff is nice, but seemed overworked. There was very little interaction with our wait staff. Dinner began with "garlic bread". Essentially garlic. So much garlic the bread was inedible. Next we split the baked clams. Mostly breadcrumbs, served in an aluminum foil clam shaped cup. Seems like it had been quite a long time since those clams had been anywhere near their shell. Main course was a mess. Eggplant parm was mushy and had a weird flavor. Assuming it was from the other items it was stored with in the freezer, clearly not made fresh. My spouse ordered flounder "limone". Flounder dipped in egg and flour, but served soft, mushy and tasteless. Again, clearly not made fresh. The place was busy. I've read other reviews. It's confusing. The food is horrible. This is a smallish high end Italian restaurant. I got a Caesar salad with shrimp and dressing on the side. No brown lettuce, all crisp, shrimp well cooked. Service was a little slow and it took forever to get our check--I was going to self-combust if they had not come. The garlic knots where delicious and made with great care--perfectly crisped exterior and the right amount of garlic and butter. The ambiance was cozy, not too noisy, almost comfy chairs, and table space a little tight. Lighting was a little dim. YUM! Hands down BEST garlic knots. Love that they give you a huge complimentary basket right when you sit down! It's what I look forward to the most. after visiting Italy, I have become wary of going to Italian restaurants. I was with a group and they wanted to try this restaurant so I relented. Big mistake. It looks nice inside. First thing that arrived was a basket of garlic knot/bread things. They were a wow. Crispy on the outside. Soft on the inside. Best I ever had. I should have left them. We had three appetizers. Baked clams: they were almost all breadcrumbs. Mozzarella with tomato and balsamic vinegar. Eh.. I went in August. Prime tomato season. You would think they would have perfectly ripe juicy local grown tomatoes. Nope. Lastly we had the steamed clams. Broth is supposed to be super garlicky and tasty. When it's good you want to drink it. I did not. For my main I had cavatelli with corn and crab meat and lemon . The first bite was actually disgusting. The crab did not taste fresh at all. Il Cappuccino is a Sag Harbor institution but every time we visit the restaurant the hostesses are very un-accommodating and make it feel like they are doing you some kind of favor to get a table. Last night, a chilly Friday February evening as a party of 3 we arrived at 7.45pm without a reservation and we interrupted both hostesses from scrolling on their social media on their phones to be told that there were no tables available and we would have a wait for at least 25 mins. We could clearly see that there were open tables and 2 tables left as we waited in the foyer. When I said ok we will go somewhere else, the hostesses said ok have a great night and allowed us to walk out the door. How does a restaurant with open tables just let its customers walk out the door ? I wouldnt ordinarily write a review but this is not an isolated incident at Il Capuccino and the terrible hostess service has become a standing joke amongst my friends. I know the answer is to make a resi and not to expect to be accommodated as a walk in, because this has been my experience multiple times at Il Capuccino I will no longer bother going there again. One of the best Italian meals I've ever had. I don't even want to post this great review for fear I will make the place get more crowded and miss out on a table next time. The atmosphere is absolutely adorable and cozy, the garlic knots were literally to die for. The best I've ever had on Long Island and everywhere. I'd fight someone for the last one if I had to. We visited on 1/24 for dinner before a show. We had made reservations for 2. When we arrived, there were two visible open tables for 2 people. One was by the kitchen, which is where they seated us. A couple who came in ten minutes later were seated at the better table. Not a great first impression, but we let it go. The ambience is nice and old world Italian. The basket of bread was great. At first, our waiter seemed friendly & professional. We exchanged pleasantries and asked for recommendations. Our food was very good. Once we were served, our waiter never came to the table again. Never to ask if we wanted another drink (we did), or anything else. Eventually, we gave up on getting more drinks, or cappuccinos & dessert, and just wanted our check so we weren't late for the show. Oddly, our waiter passed our table many times- we were seated right at the kitchen entrance- and despite my obvious attempts at getting his attention, he kept his head purposely turned away from us each time he passed. At first, we thought perhaps he was just very busy. Eventually, it seemed we were obviously being ignored. After 25 minutes of sitting with empty plates and glasses, getting him to acknowledge us was almost becoming a joke between us. When I was finally politely able to get his attention to ask for the check, he responded to me as though I was rude to ask. It still took time for the check to be given to us. I've been to this restaurant 3 times prior to joining Yelp and I can say this restaurant is consistent. I'll start by saying the staff is top notch. The service is amazing. Everyone plays an important part in making this restaurant sucessful and they should be commended for all there efforts and work ethics. Hubbie and I went on a Sunday night approximately 5:45 and the 3 outdoor tables were already taken which was disappointing since it was a perfect evening. We were immediately offered a table in the front dining area. This is our favorite part of the restaurant but it's always a little on the dark side. I would like to suggest you add another dimly lite hanging fixture to enhance the ambiance. Literally within a minute we were served delicious pipping hot garlic bread and a carafe of cold water. Shortly after we received very tasty cocktails. My husband ordered lasagna as usual and throughly enjoyed it. I ordered eggplant which comes with pasta. I selected the oil and garlic topping on penne pasta instead of sauce and really liked the flavor. The pasta was a little chewy but I keep that to myself. The eggplant was delicious but I would have preferred if it had more layers and was served on a plate instead of a chafing dish. There was absolutely zero presentation efforts with our meals because of the dishes there served in. Happy to report the temperature of the foodwas hot.
