Tried this joint for the first time in a very, very long time. I can't remember what I thought last time. But, my impression this time was very positive. Started out with the fried calamari and it was a hit. It was light & fresh and with a squeeze of lemon, it was heaven on a plate. The spicy dipping sauce enhanced the flavor and I think I like it or than the standard marinara sauce. I opted for a calzone and it was excellent--hot, crunchy and gooey. It was decadent. I have celiac and was very excited to see so many gluten free options (besides salad) that I could eat! EVERYTHING we ordered is already GF and didn't have to be modified! We ordered online, to go, since it had been a long day and we didn't want to eat out. The restaurant called to confirm the gluten free items and to let me know that the fries are fried in oil that may have had other gluten items fried in it. I truly appreciate that because it shows they read the order slip! **Celiac is an autoimmune disorder, everyone's reactions are different, as are their sensitivity levels. For me, I can eat fries fried in oil that may have fried other gluten containing things, as long as the fries themselves are not coated with flour or something. But someone else may not be able to have that level of cross contamination at all... and I knew someone with celiac who could eat a slice of bread without getting sick, but any more, they would get sick. ‍) What we ordered: Fried artichoke (Carciofi Fritti) - SO good! Highly recommend if you like artichokes! Truffle Fries - good and A LOT of fries! Since we ordered to go, they were cold and not very crispy by the time the food got home... I'm sure they're amazing fresh! Pear (Pera) arugula salad - I love a good arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette!! Vegan/GF ravioli - The ravioli did not have cheese (obviously) but the filling was soft and "creamy" with an asparagus filling. The dough of the ravioli was a little too thick, but overall was nice to have ravioli! I'd order it again, but probably wouldn't be at the top of my list. Eggplant Parmesan (Melanzane Parmigiana) - this has always been a favorite dish for me, but I haven't been able to have it in FOREVER. It did not disappoint!! My friend and I went to Doppio Zero for late night dinner on a weekday. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The place was packed, and we didn't have a reservation, but we were seated right away. We got there 40 minutes before the closing time, and their service was fast. We ordered- 1. Delizia pasta 2. Fettuccine short ribs pasta 3. Salsiccia red pizza 4. Tiramisu The Salsiccia pizza was good, but all the dressings wouldn't stick to the bread. The tiramisu was okay. The chocolate syrup drizzle on top was a bit too much. The portion size was pretty big. I wish the short ribs pasta had more meat. I don't know why, but it tasted better when I had it as a leftover meal. Delizia pasta with chicken was petty good, too. Their menu doesn't have a lot of non seafood pasta options. read more

Stopped by for a date night recently and had a pretty good time here! The drinks and apps were great too. I'll admit, I'm not a fan of mushroom by ANY means but when I tried the Fungo pizza I almost changed my mind. The texture of the crust was so soft and fluffy, it was soo good. It reminded me of naan. Everything about this pizza was great!! The bottom might have been a bit too charred for my taste but it didn't take away from the experience. Next time, I might pass on the mushroom/asparagus ravioli tho. It tasted like it was missing some seasoning and I wasn't too impressed with that one. They are known for their pizza though so next time we'll stick to the pies. Great spot for neapolitan pizza! On our recent trip we got the diavola and doppio zero pizzas and both were great! I loved the crust which is thin, airy and light and the toppings were nicely balanced. The patio is great for a sunny day and the apps/small plates are worth getting to share. Definitely try the polpettine (meals with a mix of veal, beef, and pork) in a spicy tomato sauce. read more

We ordered the Signature Doppio Zero Pizza. It tastes good. The base is soft and crispy at the same time, the topping ham and cheese are delicious. Their house chili oil is very tasty, and it goes well with the pizza. The Fried Calamari and Shrimps are not bad. They're crispy on the outside while tender and juicy on the inside.The Truffle French Fries tastes okay, but each of the potato chips is very small in size, it's so short and thin, which is a little bit annoying. We have some vegetarian friends together. They confirmed several times with the waitress that their order is meat free, but unfortunately they still got Prosciutto E Burrata and Margherita Pizza with anchovies. SO Doppio Zero has been on our radar for a while and we finally made it to see what the fuss was about. It met expectations and were it not for an errant app, it would have easily made 5 stars Burrata: aka the app that went rouge. The burratta was rich and creamy, the bread was nice and fresh. So why the loss of a star? The truffle honey was way too much. It overpowered everything and it was hard to shake from the palate to taste anything else. Polpettine: Nice moist meatballs full of flavor in in a spicy tomato sauce. The sauce helped to balance the richness of the meatballs. Using the perfectly toasted bread in the sauce was heaven. If they offered it I would order just bread and sauce Salmone Alla Griglia: I did not taste it so it was not part of the review but its presentation was nice. My wife liked it but the salmon was perfectly cooked but on the small side. Little Gem: So basically a Caesar. The greens were fresh and the fermented anchovies was a nice addition (hard for me to resist). Aside from that for my palate I would have liked a bit more acid int he dressing but it was otherwise fine The Pizza: Salsiccia: Nice balance of meat with the spicy (or not so) adding a bit of a rich kick to the pie. The sauce was assertive enough to say "hi" but not overpower anything. The peppers and onion helped balance out the richness of the sausage. The crust was perfect. Diavola: Excellent pie. The crust and sauce were as before. The chorizo had a nice spicy kick to it and the fresh arugula not only added heat but perfectly played with the over the top richness. We have been to this place few months ago wanted to try thin pizza again so visited them last night We had Burrata for starters it was refreshing fresh cheese was fresh and paired very well with the baguette slice and honey. Then we tried the Margherita pizza The crust was cooked well airy and fluffy -very tasty . we also got the Spaghetti Pomodoro spicy and tang just the way we wanted. On an early Friday afternoon (per my phone record @2:17PM), I called the restaurant to talk to an actual "human being" to see if I can get a dinner rez for 6PM, party of 4, for that evening...I was told by the male person who had answered the phone that 6:30PM would be possible (so of course, I was thrilled!) and had given my name and number. When our friends arrived early at 6:15PM to check in, they were told that there was no rez under our name for 6:30PM. Our friends called us to double check on the name and phone number the rez was under...nothing. The worker at the front said perhaps I called another location. So I checked my phone and confirmed the number was indeed the MV location when I had made the reservation. They just simply said "sorry we can't help you...no record of a reservation under your name..." I've never had this happen to me. Lesson learned is I'd get the name of the person I make the rez over the phone in the future!!! Boyfriends birthday dinner celebrated at doppio zero! We had a reservation at 7:30pm and it was hopping! All the tables were filled, indoor and outdoor, and it was very very loud. I'll admit it was very hard to hear each other for the first hour we were there. It felt like there were a lot of people who came from work with their coworkers for happy hour and stayed a little longer. Although I don't have pictures, we started with the truffle french fries and beets. I love some good shoestring fries so I was a fan of the french fries, not too salty as well. The beets were also delicious, very fresh and bright. The beets were topped with balsamic olive oil and cheese which complemented the earthy flavor of the beets. For mains we ordered the chilean sea bass, marechiaro, spaghetti estivi, fettuccine short ribs, and spaghetti meatballs. However I can only speak for the spaghetti estivi as the other dishes I only had small bites of. I thought the spaghetti estivi was very good and I liked that it was so light. The garlic white wine sauce was flavorful and the tomatoes added some nice acidity to the dish. I thought overall the food was pretty good, although I wasn't necessarily blown away. But I am also aware that they are known for their pizza more than pasta so I will have to come back to try the pizza. And hopefully during a time where it is less loud. read more

Went out for a date night in Mountain View and wanted to go for a Michelin-Star restaurant. I never went out to a fine dining restaurant that mainly focuses on pizza, but there's a first time for everything. Of course, I didn't just get pizza. Fungo Pizza (5/5): I prefer white sauce on pizza so I was excited that they had a section of their menu dedicated to it. This pizza has wild mushrooms, goat cheese, fontina, thyme, truffle oil, and Italian. I loved the mushrooms and the truffle oil paired so well with it and the crust. The crust was very chewy and was balanced with the chewiness and crunch to perfection. Marechiaro (5/5): I love seafood and pasta, so I had to get this. The spaghetti was infused with squid ink which was very interesting. I loved the roasted garlic tomato sauce as it gave this steamy taste that reminded me of eating by the waters. The seafood portion was very generous and a dub! I definitely recommend this place if you want something a bit fancy and craving pizza. A very "meh" overall experience. Since my specialty is pizza, let's start there. We got fungo pizza, and was fairly disappointed. Dough came out pretty good, crisp and good texture, as would be expected with a neopolitan style pizza. The toppings themselves were complimentary of each other, which helped. However, that's where the good ends. The cheese, sauce, and toppings were not spread throughout the diameter, meaning that some slices were like 40% crust. As good as a crust is, you can't have like 2 or 3 bites of the pizza "body", and then the rest is crust. That's some bad pizza building. On top of that, a quarter of the pizza was burnt pretty bad. I understand some areas might get some char from the oven with a thin dough, but...you can't have a pizza be burned enough where customers need to pick off the burnt parts. Not great. We also got the burrata, a daily special pasta with salmon and clam, and the panna cotta. The burrata was good and simple, as it should be. The nuts and honey was a great flavor to add. The pasta was reeeeally mid. It smelled incredibly fishy, that it was a little off-putting. However once it's in your mouth, it tasted pretty good. But the smell really brings it down. The best part of the whole meal has to be the panna cotta. Really well presented and the berry flavor complimented it so well. If I was to come back, it would just to order the panna cotta for takeout if they do that. Everything else.....yeah not worth. read more

The only downside was that the crust was too thin so the middle of the pizza concaved with all the toppings and would sometimes be soggy and hard to pick up. The Mortadella Pizza and Fettucine Wild Boar were delicious! The pizza was perfectly charred and the dough had a slight chew. It wasn't overly salty nor heavy. The pasta was al dente and the meat added a great umami taste to the dish with the tomato sauce adding a hint of freshness. The service was great. Staff were nice. The only complaint I have is that it was so loud in the restaurant. Almost a sensory overload with the loud club-like music and people talking loudly trying to hear each other. I could barely hear my partner from across me. The good thing is that there is plenty of outdoor seating. Doppio Zero was ranked the 15th best pizzeria by 50 Top Pizza, and since it is literally in my neighborhood, I couldn't resist checking it out. It was a nice December afternoon, and so we opted to dine outside (thank you City of Mountain View for keeping the outdoor dining set up on Castro St!). My friends and I already had eaten a lot in the days leading up to this meal, so we shared their Lasagna and Smoky white pizza. The pancetta on the Smoky pizza was rich in flavor, and the pizza overall was not overly oily. I'm personally a fan of not overly doughy pizza, and the dough was thin enough to enjoy but thick enough to hold the toppings in place. The lasagna too was also delicious, packed full with meat and cheese and the pasta sheets almost melting into your mouth. Glad we were able to check this Bay Area exclusive pizza place out! I had high hopes for Doppio, but after two tries, I think I'm done. The first attempt was with the whole family. It was a Monday at 5 pm, the restaurant was maybe 15% full, but we were told we couldn't be seated without a reservation. That was disappointing, but I figured we'd give them another chance. So, round two: Pizza Sunday with my daughter. She ordered the Rapini pizza, and I got a calzone. The waiter took our order without much interest - no suggestions, no clarifications. When the food arrived, things fell apart quickly. The pizza dough looked undercooked, but the broccoli on top was charred. Somehow they managed to get both wrong at once. The chili peppers barely mentioned on the menu, completely dominated on pizza. My daughter (bravely) was caught off guard, suffered through her first slice, then gave up and just removed the toppings. I tried a piece myself and immediately felt like I was in Dumb and Dumber - tears in my eyes, sweating, mouth on fire. Bitter burnt broccoli did not help. My calzone was ok but nothing memorable (or helpful at this point), so I offered it to her instead. The waiter finally came by. I told him, "The pizza is hot as hell and the broccoli is really bitter." His response: "Sorry you didn't like it." !!!!!!!! That was the moment I realized Pizza Sunday was a complete disaster. No care, no effort to make it right - just a brush-off. And then the finale: the busser came by and started clearing plates while my daughter was still eating. He literally reached for a dish right under her nose. It felt rushed and careless. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect at least a little hospitality/care. Like in pops places.
