This cute Italian spot is located on Castro Street and is a nice spot if you want some yum Italian food. The ambiance here is cute and nice for a datenight or night out with the girls. This was good and 2 orders was enough to feed about 10 people with one slice each. The server did take away the leftover pieces without asking if anyone was going to eat it though. For the main dish, I got the Penne con Pollo. The dish was a bit bland in my opinion and was not really memorable. My dish was one of the last ones to come out and before it came out, a server had come around with a bowl of parmesan, offering it to those who already got my order. However, since I got my dish after, I never got the chance to ask for parmesan. For dessert, I got a slice of tiramisu, which I also thought was okay. There was uneven amounts of lady fingers (took a photo of the better side but the opposite side was mainly just cream). Probably could use a bit more dusting of cocoa powder as well. After waiting far too long, the bartender finally came over to ask what we wanted because no server seemed responsible for our table. I didn't love the food here, but it's a super cute family owned place with great vibes. They had someone (family member?) serenading the restaurant with Sinatra-era music, and it was a lot of fun. The owners were really nice and happy to make recommendations. They also did a great job of happily accommodating our larger group and request for separate checks, which can often be a challenge.. Personally, I'd probably just go back for drinks and appetizers. I wanted something light and had the capellini. It was just a touch too watery and not as flavorful as it could be. Gnocchi texture was a touch pasty. The pizza was better. Pizza crust was the more authentic Italian crust, not crunchy like (CPK) or thin like a slice of New York. Bread and ice tea were ok. Sometimes the food is excellent but today was okay. It feels like going to your neighborhood Italian restaurant where everyone knows you, and you are teleported to Europe. Staff is so friendly. We came here for a birthday dinner and told them so in the reservation but no mention of it or any special treat(ment) :-) for it. I think they must have changed ownership since we last came. Menu now has Mediterranean dishes as well as traditional Italian. I had the chicken parmigiana which came with spaghetti and veggies. It was good but nothing special and a bit pricey at $26. Service was marginal. They forgot the wine we ordered and really staff there just did the minimum of taking our order. They used to have live music here but not sure if they do anymore. It saddens me to downgrade this review, but I was really hurt by my last experience at this restaurant. My husband and I were comjng here for lunch, and the place was packed. We weren't sure if there was going to be a table, but the owner (or one of the owners) greeted us, grabbed a couple of menus, and asked us to follow him. A few seconds later, he turned back to us and said, "Did you read the sign?" Confused, we looked over to the front and saw that the restaurant was closed for an event. We normally enter through the back because it's closest to the parking garage, so we completely missed it. We apologized, and the owner "smiled" at us and put back the menus. What was an honest mistake turned out to be a very hurtful experience. He didn't have to make a show of it by greeting us and pretending to show us to a table. He could have just been professional and said, "Hi guys. Unfortunately, we're closed today for an event." The salmon, as with most places, was overcooked--not a fan. Their menu is very cream based, e.g. though true carbonara does not call for cream, their version has it. We had to hunt down the few items that were sans cream. The great thing is they were open to modifications and substitutions, which goes a long way in my book.
