Came on a Friday evening and was able to eat outside as the weather was very nice. Service was very attentive. We both ordered an aperol spritz and it was very refreshing. The focaccia bread and dipping sauce was very good to start. We also ordered the bruschetta trio. I hadn't read the menu clearly and they were large pieces of one with arugula, cherry tomatoes and an eggplant and onion bruschetta. I think if the bread was toasted better it would've been tastier. It is a bit difficult to eat as it is packed and wished the tomatoes were chopped up. I ordered the Carbonara Calabrese and never had carbonara with artichokes. It is a smaller portion for an Italian restaurant and unfortunately it was just okay. I really needed the crushed red pepper for more flavor. The guanciale had a bit too much fat for my liking. My friend had the gnocchi pomodoro and we thought the gnocchi was overcooked as it was quite mushy. The minestore (at $18) was colorless, flavorless, cut into chunks that were way too large and came a long hair in it. Gross. We met friends of ours who were driving down from the city, and chose this spot based on the reviews and the fact that it was approx half way for both of us. We were excited initially since the staff is Italian and I was expecting very good and authentic food. Sadly, that was not the case. Service was great and attentive, but the food was very disappointing. Everything from the appetizers to the risotto (too dry) and scallops (too fishy) was underwhelming. Tre Monti was a quick stop before I headed north to the City. It was quite tasty, between the Tre Monti salad with walnuts and gorgonzola, and the margarita pizza. The pizza was extremely thin in the center, and dropped quite a bit of oil when I picked it up. This might turn off some people, but it was fabulous for me. The chianti was lovely, the outdoor deck allowed me to pass the time while watching Los Altos stroll by, and the bread was excellent. The cannoli was not too bad, paired well with coffee. The setting is simple and a relaxing upscale restaurant. There is seating outside as well but not the best option on a cooler fall evening. We ordered the burrata and calamari appetizers (salads) for the table. The menu selection is mostly pizza and pasta. All except one opted for pasta in our party. It took a while for the entrees to be served and one pasta dish was the wrong one which needed to be returned to the kitchen and a new order was placed. The pastas were mostly ok, we had 3 carbonara, one seafood special, Cavatelli di Mare, and Spaghetti alla Bolognese. And a prosciutto mozzarella pizza. The first two carbonara pastas were floating in sauce!!! Nothing like they are supposed to be. The 3rd one which was served at the end (the wrong order) was prepared properly. The pasta sauces tasted good but nothing extraordinary. The restaurant was full by the time we finished with our entrees and the staff were very busy. The experience felt rushed as we were finishing our entrees, they rushed the birthday tiramisu within 5 min of the dinner to our table while one guest was still eating their pizza!! The tiramisu and cheesecake were heavenly and we loved them. We would have enjoyed the dining if it was more relaxed and not rushed. Had high hopes and it was just ok. I made a reservation for a Friday night because I thought it was going to be busy, but I got there and I didn't need one. Regardless, I prefer to sit at the bar, so I likely wouldn't have needed a reservation anyway, but I didn't know that. After being seated at the bar, which I requested, I ordered an aperol spritz, which was fine. This bar does not have liquor, just beer and wine. I ordered the cavatelli di mare and was a little confused when I got it. The description of the dish states "fresh clams, mussels, calamari, and prawns". I got my plate and noticed there were zero mussels. I asked and the response was as that they were out of them. Not sure why they didn't state that when I ordered the dish. They did offer to provide more clams, but I declined because I have never seen smaller clams in my life....they were TINY. The focaccia bread and herb/garlic oil was yummy, though some of the pieces of focaccia were rough like they were cut a day or two before. The cavatelli pasta was as also very good, but don't think I got or paid for what was on the menu... I love fresh and authentic Italian restaurants, but this one is missing the mark just a little. read more

Went for a date night with my husband. Reached late around 8:40 pm and the place was mostly empty. Peak time for them is between 5:30 to 7:30 pm and after that its quite open. There are quite a few options for vegetarians in Antipasti menu, fewer in the main course. I felt that the food lacked flavor. Spaghetti could have used more salt. Service was quick and all servers were nice and polite. The best of all was the tiramisu. Got to talk to the pastry chef and saw the Basque cheesecake come out. Once seated our group waited a bit for someone to come take our order until we flagged a waiter down. The food was fantastic, most things we tried were well-made and tasted great. I set up a dinner date at this restaurant with some friends I haven't seen for a while. It was six of us. I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. I love Italian food and go to a lot of Italian restaurants in the Bay Area, but there was just something off about this place. My wife had a salad with chicken and the chicken had a weird texture, almost like rubber. I had the gnocchi and the sauce almost tastes like a sour cream. On top of that, they had the kitchen door open, so you could see people washing dishes while you eat. That was sort of a turn off. The waiters also seemed to be in a hurry. They stopped by our table every couple of minutes to clear our plates and ask us what else we need like they were expecting another party in need to clear us out, although the restaurant was half full. The only thing I really enjoyed was the dessert. The cheesecake was awesome. My wife had the tiramisu, and she thought that was pretty good as well. Overall, I don't know if I need to blame Yelp or the restaurant because this was rated as a four-star restaurant, and there's no way in hell this is a four-star restaurant. I give it about a 2.5 on my experienced opinion. Best of luck to them, but I definitely won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Very inconsistent, sometimes the Margarita pizza is really good and sometimes it tastes like grocery store microwaved pizza. The meat quality is very bad, tastes old. Fish is not fresh as all. Steak and chicken are too chewy and rubbery. Vegetable sides are way too oily. Deserts are very good. Service is only good if you're served by one of the 2 Italian guys or the lady, otherwise it's pretty bad; the other male server is always in a hurry and rude, he looks angry, he should not be a server, seems to hate it. Don't want to be served by an angry person, want to be able to relax while eating. There are much better Italian restaurants in the area for same price. Here is a mom and pop Italian in the south bay! I am definitely coming back here, after trying it once. I had the Pappardelle, super tasty, and friends got the seafood pasta and something else I forgot.. Tiramisu was also decent but not extraordinary. They have many wine selections, and they are kind enough to let us try before we decided which ones to get. Stopped by for lunch and had the place to ourselves for about 30 minutes, and then soon the place was almost full. I ordered the pappardelle. It comes with prosciutto, peas, and mushrooms. It was soooo yummy! I'm usually not a fan of peas, but I didn't mine them at all in this dish. The pappardelle was cooked perfectly!! I hate when pasta is too al dente. Didn't have that issue here. The sauce is rich and creamy. The mushrooms are delicious. There's nothing I don't love about this dish. We also tried the octopus and it was not my cup of tea. I came here for lunch with my friend on Thursday for the first time. I was telling someone that it had been getting harder to find a good Italian restaurant these days since lot of the ones I used to love closed. They recommended Tre Monti and wow what a gem!! First off, the atmosphere was very welcoming. Giovanni introduced himself to me and made recommendations. He mentioned that the meat lasagna just came out of the oven! Nice. Their pasta noodles are made in house and can be purchased separately. Delicious and authentic! My friend ordered the Carbonera Calabrese and she loved it. We also shared the fried calamari salad. It was delicious! The calamari was fried lightly and they gave us very good amount. The salad dressing and fruits were paired back nicely. I LOVED my dish..it was the Mezze Maniche Al Salmone. They were super flexible about me switching the noodle to spaghetti & with smoked salmon. I was over the moon because this was the exact type of dish I would order in the past. I'll be bringing my mom next time to try their Vongole. I'm sure it'll be amazing. To top it off, he brought out homemade cheesecake that his sister made and wow....I'm still thinking about it. My friend bakes a lot too and she was super impressed with the flavor and consistency. The whipped cream was delicious too. I like to go out to eat.,I do not want a dog chewing on a bone sitting next to me. If I wanted to eat sharing my space with a dog I go to the shelter and eat with them.. restaurants should not be forced to accept customers with dogs.. they can leave their dogs at home.. they do not have to force themselves to the manager and force other customers to east next to the dog. Lovely, cozy establishment in a convenient location with very friendly, knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed our time here, even if the food was lackluster. The menu is reminiscent of our trips to Italy, even Tyrolean in some sense, like the mushroom risotto (which makes sense given the restaurant's name). The menu really is fantastic, which is what drew us in. The fact that there is a specials menu is typically a good sign there will be fresh, creative, thoughtful dishes. Sadly, the quality of the food didn't match up to our expectations given the prices and obvious homage to amazing, traditional Italian cuisine. I'll take some of the blame: I don't think I'll ever get used to the uninteresting Californian variety of porcini (even though it's so fresh here) after eating so many wild fresh porcini dishes across Italia's mountainous areas. But that aside, the rice in the risotto was overdone (and not actually any of the varieties of rice I've ever seen in risotto before), it was way too cheesy (almost like a pizza!), and the flavors were notable only for how shockingly bland and uninspired they were. (I wanted to ask the bartender for a zest of lemon to season the risotto a bit.) A pasta dish we had wasn't much more flavorful or inspired, although the pasta itself was decent quality -- fresh and tender, perhaps handmade in house. For dessert, we had a scoop of what was pitched as gelato, but it clearly was not. It was neither high enough fat content nor dense enough to be considered gelato, and the flavor again, barely registering. Nice place, regardless. You should go and try it yourself, and maybe you'll have a better time with the food than we did. read more

We discovered this place yesterday because we were in downtown Los Altos. The food was fantastic but the restaurant is tiny and lacks atmosphere. We had to sit outside in the cold because we were walk-ins (hint - make a reservation!). The service was average and nothing at all exemplary. The server didn't make any conversation , didn't offer any recommendations , just took the order and moved on. I have to give this place 4 stars because the food was awesome but the ambiance and service was 2 stars at best. Here is what we ordered: - Appetizer - Ordered the Artichoke with lemon vinaigrette and salad. It was delicious (couldn't take pics fast enough before it got eaten). I saw the table next door get the Burrata for the apps. It looked so good , we will get it next time. MAINS - Pasta Bolognese - this was outstanding. My younger son and I had this and it was flavorful and they used the perfect spaghetti noodles and the meat sauce was fresh. - Spaghetti Primavera - My wife got this and she said it was great and would get it again. I'm an Northeasterner and require Italian food every so often. Saw this place pop up on my maps search, and then came to see these Yelp reviews and photos... DoorDash understandably has a limited menu for this restaurant, but I'm so happy it's even an option. Literally processed the app order at 6:07pm and got my food at 6:51pm! My daughter really wanted some pasta, and we had heard Tre Monti was actually Italian owned, so we came in for a quick Saturday lunch. It wasn't particularly busy, so we were able to get a table easily. Since we had the kids with us, we just focused on carbs: - Cavatelli alla Calabrisella: with pork shoulder and sausage ragu. The kids loved this pasta. It had a rich tomato sauce, and the pasta texture was good. For the adults, I liked it with some extra chili oil, which they provided - Spaghetti con Vongole: house made spaghetti with a flavorful sauce that was velvety but light, and it had good clam flavor. This was the clear winner of the lunch, and we used bread to soak up all of the remaining sauce - Margherita pizza: the crust was just ok, and it was missing the basil, but that worked out since my toddlers are not into anything with herbs these days Service was very friendly, and food came pretty quickly. Forewarning, I started this review after visiting about this time last year and it sat in my drafts. I don't know if he still owns/runs the place, but I met a guy who was working at Italico (in Palo Alto) pre-covid who told me he was opening a new place called "Tre Monti" in Los Altos. I finally got to check it out (last year, mind you). Disappointing. I went at lunch on a Monday, but I don't think that's an excuse. The tables inside are way worn from years of water damage and sun. It felt like being in Italy, where restaurants are typically family owned with excellent food that isn't flashy but is perfectly prepared (homestyle Italian cooking - the osso bucco and risotto tasted exactly like how my Italian grandparents made it). We hadn't had authentic Italian for god knows how long, and all this time the poor renditions of Americanised Italian food (with bland tomatoes and cheap cheese) really had left a sour taste in the mouth. However, we were very hungry so decided to take a stab anyway knowing that this place was in Los Altos; and it did not disappoint. Everything, from the homemade pasta, the softest pizza dough, melt-in-mouth ravioli and Italian couscous with seafood was made with the freshest of ingredients. The service was par excellence, and rounded off with on-the-house limoncello liquor. Shout out to the ambience as well, given we could sit comfortably with our dog and 2 year old infant who normally gives us a hard time, but loved the food here. It's wonderful that these small Italian restaurants are here in the South Bay Area. Much more accessible than driving up to San Francisco for dinner. Tre Monti is a 3.5 star and can get to 4 stars pretty easily. I was part of a party of three that went there Christmas Eve and were greeted by the owners, first impression was this is a cozy and quaint place, more on the casual side. The menu looked great, but prices were a little on the high side for a casual restaurant like this...but this is Los Altos so I am sure the leases here aren't cheap. The prices don't vary for lunch or dinner so unless you crave a Panini (for lunch) might as well come here for dinner. Our waiter, food runners, and bus staff were their employees and this is the only area that needs work. We felt rushed and there was little conversation between the staff and patrons. As soon as one person finished, their plate would be taken away leaving the others to finish their meal...I think you get the picture. The owners were more focused on chatting it up with their regulars, which is ok but train your staff to be equally entertaining with your patrons or else you'll need to spread yourselves thin to engage with the diners. Suggest having the head chef come out for a round once in a while. Regarding the food, like other reviewers, the food is quite good. We focused on the appetizers and the pastas which are made in-house. Portions were on the generous side and that eased the concern about price. Here are the grades: Pera Salad (B+) Tasty, good mix of blue cheese, thinly sliced pears, and candied walnuts. Could have used more walnuts. Tre Monti Salad (A-) very good balance with the apples, gorgonzola, and roasted candied walnuts, butter lettuce was fresh. Burrata with Prosciutto (A) this one's a good one, just missing some bread to go with it. Note, if you order more bread than the complimentary first basket, they will charge you for the second basket. Order this, it's great. Polpo (B-) the octopus was tasty but they provide it sliced so it doesn't seem like you get as much as competing restaurants Cavatelli Alla Calabrisella (A) is a homemade cavatelli with pork shoulder and sausage, this was very good, nice balance of pasta and protein, and was very flavorful. Spaghetti Alla Bolognese (A+) wonderful beef and veal ragu, al dente pasta, just a really nice dish as everyone has stated. Tartufo Al Cioccolato (B-) it's chocolate gelato on chocolate zabaione, good but not great. Italians like their chocolate on chocolate, but I think Americans like a little more starch (cake or cookie crumbles) to balance it out. This one is a good one to share amongst 3 people instead of one person trying to take it all. Affogato Al Caffe (A) served in a dish, wonderful presentation and taste If they were to magically amp the staff to make the experience more engaging and knock $5-$6 off every dish (without lowering quality and quantity) they would be swarmed. I gave this place 5 stars a year ago but have been back 3 times recently and we were disappointed each time. The portions appear to be smaller and prices higher. The ragu, bolognese, and cavatelli di mare sauces don't have the same great flavor as a year ago, not sure why. We've given them enough chances and will not be going back. read more

i brought my dear friend here for her birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! reservations were easy, i used opentable.com and booked a table for sat evening @ 1730. upon arrival, it was not busy, only a couple of other guests, and we were able to have an outdoor table with a heat lamp. we started with waters, and my friend had a glass of white for her special day. we were given a basket of warm bread to start, and let me tell you this looked like it came fresh out of the oven, still warm with just a bit of charred markings. i believe the dip was olive oil, garlic and lemon juice? it was the perfect complement to the warm sourdough bread. since everything looked good, it wasn't easy to choose and we also had many questions. while our waiter was very sweet, he spoke little english so i'm grateful to the manager/owner for taking the time to answer our questions. we settled on the tre monti ($13.95) tender butter lettuce, roasted walnuts, organic fuji apple, crumbled gorgonzola and champagne-vinegar dressing. this was beautifully presented and delightful on my tongue! perfectly crisp lettuce, crunchy walnuts and apple, and a lite dressing, simply perfect for a warm summer evening. for our mains, i ordered spaghetti primavera ($23.95) home made spaghetti with mixed seasonal vegetables, basil, pesto genovese, zucchini mash sauce and parmigiano reggiano. i also ordered a side of fire roasted salmon ($11) for some protein. this was a lovely blend of fresh, seasonal veggies, finely chopped, and tossed with jsut the perfect al dente pasta and pesto sauce. i could taste the homemade texture with every bite of pasta! i probably should have stopped halfway (since i was a little full from sourdough bread and salad) but i ate the whole thing b/c it was just so good! the salmon was perfectly grilled with some nice seasonings was a generous portion. my friend ordered the special of the day, home made spaghetti with octopus and mixed veggies ($25.95). this was blended well, and while i did not try, my friend enjoyed every bite, complimenting the flavours along the way! while we were very stuffed, we knew we had to have dessert to cap off this special celebration. we already saw other customers ordering dessert and our mouths were watering at the thought of something sweet to end the evening. after some deliberation (again), we ended up choosing the burnt basque cheesecake ($10) a crustless cheesecake with a burnt exterior crust with notes of caramel. they told us this was actually gluten-free! we asked for a scoop of french vanilla gelato to accompany this rich dessert, and were also given a dollop of whipped cream. even though i was very full, i could not stop eating this cheesecake, it was just soo good! but it wasn't overly sweet at all, in fact, more tart. the french vanilla gelato was the right flavour to accompany the caramel tones of the cake, and the whipped cream was just a delicate little added touch! i was already very satisfied with this meal, and then they brought out two complimentary glasses of moscato. tasted just like honey and what a great way to end this scrumptious meal. my friend was extremely pleased with this meal, belly full and we had a nice stroll around downtown los altos after...in an effort to work off some of the calories consumed! my gratitude to the owner, the staff and chef for this amazing, unforgettable meal. i hope to be back for my next special occasion dinner! read more
