To say the Dorr Street Cafe is a hole in a wall would be an understatement. Tucked away in a relatively unattractive strip mall, you'd have no idea a bar & grill would exist. But exist it does. We stopped in today for a noon brunch, and the front of the house was packed with old bikers. The bar was full, and the bartender was pounding shots with the patrons. There was a bit of a wild west saloon vibe going on. The dining room was empty, and we were promptly served by our lovely waitress Raquel. I asked her what she would order if she was me. I gave her the options of the french dip, the philly or the reuben. She said the roast beef with gravy was in fact her favorite but that they were known for the reubens. I went with her suggestion. My wife ordered the rainbow chicken salad, and we also chose the enormous fried appetizer platter. Good lord I overdid it. The app was perfectly greasy, and just what you'd expect. The roast beef... holy smokes. It was one of those time travel dishes. First bite in, with the brown gravy soaking into the white bread underneath the meat... I was back in third grade, mid 1980's school lunch. It was perfectly generically awesome. It tasted exactly as brown gravy should taste. The potatos? Totally out of a box, but perfectly paired with the soggy white bread and out of the jar sauce. The roast beef was thinly cut and melt in my mouth tender. My wife was surprised by the size and freshness of her salad. It was really huge, and the veggies all seemed top quality. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes singing "I've Had The Time of My Life" in the background, the mid 80's decor and the flavor profile of my lunch really put me in a wonderful time capsule. I have no idea how the place changes throughout the week. A different crowd and music would have a lot of impact, but I can tell you the Dorr Street Cafe does a solid job of pushing out extremely generic american pub food. As a side note, yes I am giving a restaurant that serves dehydrated potatoes 4 stars. And this review shouldn't be compared to a 4 star review of a fine dining establishment. They earn 4 stars because they are doing a solid job at what they are doing. read more

Yep. Im reviewing after 1 visit which I usually don't do. So based on the reviews I was expecting to walk in to a biker bar on a lazy Saturday. Walked into contemporary jazz and how bout 3 good looking men turning around to take a look at u?! Well let me sit down I live here but I don't. My job keeps me on the road 10 months of every year pretty much so I don't get alot of time to peruse spots here. I did not want to leave but I had a damn date meeting me at black frog brewery at 4.!! I had to turn to down a free drink from this good looking muscle bound man.. OK let me stop. I woke up today wanting a Reuben. So I googled it. And the first thing that popped up was Dorr street cafe. Okay, firstly I didn't even know there was such a thing as Dorr street cafe because I live off Dorr street not far from here. Secondly, the chef here is amazing! He caramelized the sauerkraut. Every bite I have taken is amazing and warm. There's not a single cool/cold spot on the sandwich. Now let's go on to the waffle fries... I'm not a huge potato person like fries and the sort. But decided to get the waffle fries they have. They are firm and seasoned to perfection. Like I'm seriously in fat girl heaven eating lunch today. Okay and now for our waitress. She was super friendly and on it. I order a Bloody Mary. I'm guessing the bartender has never had one or is new. Which both of those are no faults of her own. She just needs a little more experience with them. But it was very basic. Vodka and tomato juice. Now if I had a hangover I would've just sucked it down. But I just couldn't. So the waitress brought me a couple things to doctor it but it just wasn't right. So.... She must've seen the looks on my face when I would take a drink because she bright me one that she made. OH EMM GEEE! It was delicious. I'm so glad I came in here. And I think I might just make this my new spot to get lunch with the little sister and have a moment to ourselves. I've come here a few times since it's nearby and a good spot to watch a game. Their food is okay, it's nothing special. For what you get I personally think it's a little overpriced. Most of the things I've ordered I've thought to myself, "I could make exactly this for 1/3 the price." I expected more from the reuben's, considering they pride themselves on it. The bread is pretty weak. Most of their ingredients seem like they come from your run-of-the mill grocery store so nothing feels authentic. Beer selection isn't great. It's okay, but for as large as the bar section is you'd think they would have more. They do have some good drink specials here and there. Service has been poor every time I've been in. Most of the time I sit ignored for 10+ minutes even when there are 2-5 other people sitting at the bar/in the restaurant. I generally have to ask for a menu, which isn't a big deal, but I've always been taught in service to greet, sit, and get a menu and water out as soon as possible. Overall, pretty disappointed. Was hoping for more with the positive reviews, but I've come to expect as much from the Toledo food scene. I will continue looking for a good sports bar around here, this place wasn't up to snuff for me. read more

Great place, great bar. However, if you sit in the "restaurant" portion, pray that you don't get Shannon as your waitress. We sat, without service, for long periods of time. I had to get up and go find her. When I found her she was standing in the service area looking at her tablet. This happened 3 times over the course of one meal. The food is standard but done well. Coming from Wisconsin, I am used to a larger beer selection, but they make up with an incredible staff that is inviting and fun to hang out with. read more

My husband , a friend of ours, and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch today at the Cafe'. From the start, our server,Jen, was attentive and was always willing to go the extra mile. Our friend ordered the "soup of the day" (potato) and was delighted. She also ordered a fish entree and side salad. She had high compliments for both. She and I each had a glass of wine which was an unexpected generous amount .. a pleasant surprise. My husband ordered wings and chili. He is a chili aficionado and he was delighted. For dessert we shared a generous slice of creamy chocolate peanut butter pie. Jen made a fresh pot of decaf to accompany our dessert. What more could we ask for? Great experience! We'll be back again to try some other items from their extensive menu. read more

Yikes. Took 15 mins to be greet envy our server with no apology. Appetizer had obviously been ready for awhile bc it was just room temp. Food took a long time and it was awful. I have never had bad prime rib and this place apparently serves bad prime rib to unsuspecting regulars all day long. Gross. The love music kept my mood in check but our bad service and subpar food will not result in a return visit. Still on the hunt for a decent casual place to eat in Toledo. read more

Went to visit this place since it was close by options on the menu sounded appetizing, got the reuben by the menu price and low class decor i was expecting a large sandwich with a plethora of french fries, what i actually received was a small sandwich with stale potato chips. The taste of the sandwich was good but nothing unique and i left the restaurant hungry and unfullfilled. read more

Really good food served in a throwback bar atmosphere, much like the family oriented bars of rural America. A good find.

We enjoy the Dorr St Café. They are know for great food and usually deliver. I have only had one substandard meal there over several visits. It was a Caesar Salad I had in early December of 2014. Lesson to be learn: stick to what they are know for - sandwiches. read more
