Fried sampler basket is pretty serious!

To say the Dorr Street Cafe is a hole in a wall would be an understatement. Tucked away in a relatively unattractive strip mall, you'd have no idea a bar & grill would exist. But exist it does. We stopped in today for a noon brunch, and the front of the house was packed with old bikers. The bar was full, and the bartender was pounding shots with the patrons. There was a bit of a wild west saloon vibe going on. The dining room was empty, and we were promptly served by our lovely waitress Raquel. I asked her what she would order if she was me. I gave her the options of the french dip, the philly or the reuben. She said the roast beef with gravy was in fact her favorite but that they were known for the reubens. I went with her suggestion. My wife ordered the rainbow chicken salad, and we also chose the enormous fried appetizer platter. Good lord I overdid it. The app was perfectly greasy, and just what you'd expect. The roast beef... holy smokes. It was one of those time travel dishes. First bite in, with the brown gravy soaking into the white bread underneath the meat... I was back in third grade, mid 1980's school lunch. It was perfectly generically awesome. It tasted exactly as brown gravy should taste. The potatos? Totally out of a box, but perfectly paired with the soggy white bread and out of the jar sauce. The roast beef was thinly cut and melt in my mouth tender. My wife was surprised by the size and freshness of her salad. It was really huge, and the veggies all seemed top quality. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes singing "I've Had The Time of My Life" in the background, the mid 80's decor and the flavor profile of my lunch really put me in a wonderful time capsule. I have no idea how the place changes throughout the week. A different crowd and music would have a lot of impact, but I can tell you the Dorr Street Cafe does a solid job of pushing out extremely generic american pub food. As a side note, yes I am giving a restaurant that serves dehydrated potatoes 4 stars. And this review shouldn't be compared to a 4 star review of a fine dining establishment. They earn 4 stars because they are doing a solid job at what they are doing.

Really good food served in a throwback bar atmosphere, much like the family oriented bars of rural America. A good find.

And he said "you know what, just have it I'll make myself a new one." The chef offered me to try a piece first because it was off-menu, and it was the best thing I've eaten in Toledo. They charged me $10 flat and sent me on my way with the sandwich. Great Service, greater food.

YES!!!!! Finally,…read moreafter nearly 10 years living back in Toledo, this place has opened! Real NYC-style chicken and rice. If you ever lived in NYC you know what I'm talking about. This is the real deal. The guy who runs it used to run a deli in Brooklyn. Toledo has plenty of good Lebanese shawarma platters, but this is a different category. Nothing else scratches the itch. They upped their price to about $15, but when they did that they increased the portion size and included a drink and a bag of chips for free, so I think it's still a pretty good deal. Often they'll mix in some fries with the platter, too. As well as lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions and peppers. And they have Vernors, which you can't usually get at NYC halal trucks. So it's almost like NYC-Detroit fusion, the best of both worlds LOL! I haven't tried the rest of their menu much. I tried a lemon chicken sandwich once, and it was not on par with the ones that I've from the better delis in Harlem and The Bronx. It was kind of soggy and salty. I might try more of the subs at some point, but I really think of this as a one dish place for now, in spite of their long menu. I think it's hard to express just how happy I am to have this place a short drive from me. The cost to obtain one of my favorite foods from my home in Toledo went down from about $500 and several hours of travel (the price of a round-trip flight to LaGuardia plus one night in a hotel in Queens) down to about $15 and a 10 minute drive.

There were two people who came before us, and then a group of 14, and then my husband and me, followed by another bunch of people into a restaurant that was already packed. The waitresses did not even bat an eyelid. They were very polite and were busy doing their work. They were helping seat people as well as checking out people who had just eaten. We only waited about 15 - 20 mins. In the meantime, we chatted with the locals, who told us how often they came here just to eat the pies. When we got seated, the first thing we ordered and got started on were the AMAZING pies (chocolate PB for me and custard for my husband). Oh my God, they were out of the world yummy! We got to watch the ladies on the grill as they made the food. My husband ordered he Swiss steak and I had the double hamburger with all the fixings. The food is great but so are the people who work here --they are just so friendly, have worked here for years and truly care. You don't see this anymore. If I lived here, I would come here once a week to chitchat with them and eat PIE!! Make sure you come here. This place is a gem and has been here since 1948.

New local favorite unlocked!…read more My husband and I had a quick date night at the newly opened Voodoo Brewing Company in Canton, and we're already planning to go back this week! Tonight we shared the BLT with avocado and their skin-on fries (so good!). I had the Tropical Cherry Mule --absolutely delicious--and David tried the Hazy Vibes IPA. Yesterday he and his buddy sampled the Lacto Kooler Sour, loved it so much they bought a six-pack and a shirt before leaving! A huge shoutout to our bartenders, Sarah and Shana, who made us feel right at home. We also had the pleasure of meeting owner Carla, who is incredibly friendly and a fellow dog lover--always a bonus in my book! The artwork throughout the brewery is stunning, hand-painted by two tattoo artists from Old World Tattoo in Imlay City. The detail is incredible and really gives the place its own unique personality. And that logo? So cool! If you're looking for a great new spot with amazing drinks, tasty food, awesome people, and a fun vibe, definitely check them out. Canton, you've got a winner! We recently hosted a retirement party for my boss here, and from start to finish the experience was outstanding. Wayne and Amy were incredible to work with while planning everything--they helped coordinate the setup, worked with us on catering appetizers, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. They even accommodated us bringing in our own cake, which was a huge plus. They gave us a large dedicated section for our group, and everything ran seamlessly all night. The food and drinks were fantastic across the board--everyone in our party was raving. The pretzel bites with beer cheese were a big hit, and the pulled pork nacho bar for appetizers was next level. People kept going back for more and talking about it all night. But the real standout of the evening was our waitress, Karissa. She was an absolute rockstar. We had a large group with individual tabs for everyone, and she kept everything perfectly organized without missing a beat. Drinks were always full, food came out quickly, and no one was left waiting or confused. Whatever system she was running behind the scenes--it worked flawlessly. It's not easy to keep a big group happy, and she made it look effortless. Whether you're going for a casual dinner or planning a large event, this is a place that knows how to take care of people. Highly recommend.
