My now husband and I had our cake made here for our wedding this past saturday as they are the prefered vendor for cakes through Giorgio's Catering. Now let me tell you, I'm the person who takes one bite of wedding cake and calls it quits because it's either too sweet or too dry. Our cake was neither. It was so moist and delicious and the fresh strawberries and blueberries in chantilly were so full of flavor and brightness. They nailed the design of our cake and the color of it and even made a miniature vegan version for our guests as well. We were a little put off by the presentation of their cake tasting (there was only 2 small pieces of the two cake flavors we picked to sample the 6 toppings with). And when I called up to finalize the order, after going over it all with one of the girls at our tasting, the girl on the other end told me my cake was a buttercream cake and not a fondant cake (which was incorrect as the girl helping us at the tasting had checked with the manager and was told it would need fondant for the design we wanted). However, I was put at ease when I went in person and the original girl who had helped us out was there and my cake order was placed correctly. I ordered a chocolate mousse cake as shown in their web site a beautifully decorated, gourmet treat. What I received was NOTHING like the cake in the web site! Although it may have had the same ingredients it certainly did NOT have the WOW presentation I expected from a cake costing almost $30. I looked like any cake I could have purchased in the bakery section of any supermarket for $11.99. However, what really made me angry was the elderly lady there was trying to convince me that the cake they sold me and the one on the website was the same cake, despite the fact that I purchased the cake exactly like the one in the web site before. Purchased chocolate ganache cake (3/31/18), which had a bad after taste, very apparent after 1st/2nd bite, to four different people ranging from ages 14 to 87. I tried so hard not to write this review and gave the bakery WAY too many chances to make things right and I have just been disregarded and treated like I don't matter. I placed an order for a cake but decided to cancel my order before the event. I paid in full when I ordered it in March. It is now MAY and I still haven't gotten my refund. When I cancelled it I was told only the manager issues the returns and she will do it when she gets in the next day. Well, she didn't. She also didn't return my numerous phone calls, she disregarded my 2 visits where I came in to follow up on my return and my emails to the CEO and the owner still haven't resolved my issue. I asked several times what the total would be and each time it was $29.99. I was shocked when I received my credit card statement for $54.43. I dont leave reviews often,I am a drug rep so my job is to get food for offices. I have used this bakery numerous times. the past 6 times that I have used it my order was wrong. Last time I ordered 50 cupcakes and a Oreo cheesecake. When I showed up they gave me the Oreo cake and didn't have any cupcakes. Tried to give me Italian cookies instead when I told them refund my money they told me it couldn't be done until owner came in which was two days. To make matters worse when I gave the cheesecake to my office it wasn't cheesecake it was a vanilla cake with an oreo on top. Another time I ordered chocolate covered strawberry for an office only to bite into one and the strawberrry was moldy. I called up right away to speak with manager they told me he would call me back right away. I didn't hear anything from him I called again only to get ignored so I went to the bakery to speak with him the made me wait 45 mins then I saw the owner try to drive out away so I went outside to ask why he wouldn't see me after speaking with him for 30 minutes to go absolutely no where he gave me a $20 gift card. When I used the card my for the order I got a coconut cake with no lemon and red velvet cake the writing wasn't on either and they didn't have anyone to put the writing on. I know this is going to sound cliché but I have never written a negative review on Yelp until today. In short, my dissatisfaction with this bakery is about service and poor attitude. I am a returning customer whose family has purchased multiple cakes from this bakery. I ordered a cake for my dad surprise 60th birthday which I was extremely excited about. After confirming the spelling of my name on the cake (3 times) when placing the order AND confirming again (4th time) while picking up the cake (which they showed upside so we had to verbally confirm the spelling) we noticed after bringing the cake home (30 minutes away) that indeed the spelling was incorrect. Mistakes happen (I get it) however when they do happen (especially when dealing with a local business) you expect to be acknowledged, accommodated and apologized to. This bakery in fact did the complete opposite; Wondering why we were "annoyed" we had to leave in the middle of the party to drop off the cake to be "fixed". No one offered to pick the cake up from us Nor did they offer to provide any type of discount for the inconvenience they caused. To top it all off, the owner never called me when I specifically asked for a call from him. Instead, after going back and forth with the bakery for over a week (waste of my time) - they offered me 10% off my NEXT purchase. The idea that they think I would ever spend more money (especially at their price point) in their bakery or deli next door after the way they handled an unhappy customer beats me. We ordered our wedding cake from La Bonne Boulangerie after my parents used them for our wedding shower. When we met with Daniele he was over 30 minutes late and acted like he didn't have time for us. We showed him a picture of the cake we wanted and tried talking through flavors and suggestions, but he seemed annoyed and said "what, you're just designing the cake now?" and laughed sarcastically. Then we said, fine, just make it identical to the picture, with a rose gold bottom, shimmery ivory 2nd layer, rose gold 3rd layer with a thin ivory band, and a shimmery ivory top layer with loose-looking blush pink flowers on top. We also asked that the fondant layers not be rounded. Daniele scribbled the notes on a take-out order sheet and said I would get a copy of the order via email, but I insisted that he give me the carbon copy on the take-out order sheet. I'm glad I did, because he never emailed me a copy of the order. Also, he took my credit card information and by the time I got to my car I received an AMEX notification that my card had been charged over $100 more than he quoted us just minutes earlier. I called the bakery from the parking lot to find out why, but supposedly he had already left. I called again a few days later and asked for him to return my call, but it was never returned. A few days before our wedding day Daniele called me asking if his pastry chef could change the design of the cake adding quilting and bands. I said I wanted it to look modern like the picture we showed him when we met, without quilting and bands. He hesitantly said "ok" but I knew when I hung up the phone that our cake would look nothing like we had asked. And unfortunately, I was right. The gold wasn't a rose gold, but a tacky yellow gold, all the fondant edges were rounded and nearly every layer had quilting and pearls. The flowers on top tier were too small for the size of the cake and tightly bunched in the center. It was nothing like what we showed Daniele in our first meeting. The cake tasted good, but I will never order a specialty cake from them again. If you want a traditional-looking cake, then you may not be disappointed, but if you want something more current, I would look elsewhere. read more

I was recommended to use La Bonne Boulangerie By the Fifth Season Restaurant in Port Jefferson for my daughters' engagement luncheon last year. I was so impressed with the cake, everyone loved it, So beautiful and very fresh and delicious. I decided to use them again for the wedding cake. Oct. 21.2017 was the Wedding day at the Bailey Arboretum in Lattingtown. We used the East Norwich Location, due to its proximity to Lattingtown. The cake was talked about for days. They were such a pleasure to work with. We went for a taste testing and were given so many delicious choices that we could not make up our minds which flavor we liked the best. They were all SO GOOD. We had it down to 3, and still did not know what to do. I asked if we could have all 3. 3 Tier cake. A different flavor for each tier. They said no problem and there it was, a decision. Top tier was carrot cake and cream cheese, middle tier was Red Velvet and chocolate mousse, bottom tier was vanilla cake with fresh berries in a chantilly cream. Oh My, SOOOOOO GOOD. I've had it with this place. Customer service is non existent. The confections are ruined by the time you pick them off the counter because the extra effort to box them appropriately would be too much exertion for this crew. Even when you make a request for the confection to be properly wrapped it isn't -- and each and every time the items have been ruined; smudged, smashed, toppled over, dented. I gave them another shot after they ruined my specialty cake by making it incorrectly and then did NOT even adjust the price. Lesson learned. Even the owner having contacted me was confused as to why I could possibly be upset for having to pay for something I didn't order having said "its just a cake"!!!! We booked La Bonne Boulangerie for our wedding in May because we have ordered cakes from this bakery for other occasions and they have always been beautiful and delicious. Unfortunately, the account manager/owner Daniele Messina was very difficult to work with because he was often unresponsive to emails and didn't fully listen to our requests for the flower cascade on our wedding cake. We verbally asked and emailed for a color scheme of blush pink, lavender, and cream to match our center pieces. The lavender roses were lovely but the other flowers looked like large orangey clams. In the end the flowers looked nothing like the pictures we had provided, and it was very frustrating trying to get in touch with Daniele. However, the base of the case looked exactly like the catalog picture and the cake tasted absolutely delicious, like all of the other confections we have ordered from here. My advice if you're booking this vendor is to choose a cake from their selection and don't ask for any modifications. At least it will taste great! read more

I'm very disappointed with the custom special occasion cake I had purchased for my cousins baby shower back in December. I had written specific details on the order form, the young girl I dealt with understood exactly what I was talking about. About a week later I received a call from their so called manager, Melissa in regards to my requests. I had mentioned I wanted a vanilla cake with a chocolate raspberry mousse, with the cake saying "Twinkle twinkle little star, do you know how loved you are?" Written in baby blue. The cake was suppose to have stars and a moon.. When I picked up the cake the day of the party I admit I didn't look at it like I should have. I took the cake to the party location to have my family members look it over, i was missing my moon and the extra stars, and they completely left out the "d" in the word loved. I needed to take the cake back, the girl fixed it and wrote the D in a different color blue! They also put the moon over the writing! They apologized and I just asked to have a manager call me and no one did. I was even more disappointed when I took a bite into a piece of cake, this so called vanilla cake tasted like lemon, and the filling was a raspberry preserve that when I cut pieces for everyone the cake fell apart... My family has done so much business with Corey for so long, my grandpa was a regular there until he passed away.. I will go there for already made cakes but I will not be spending money on a custom cake. read more

My husband has celiac and needs to be Gluten-Free (GF). One of our biggest concerns in planning our wedding was figuring out our wedding cake. When we attended the cake tasting appt., they had both GF and non-GF yellow cake available with all GF fillings. (I am not GF.) The consultant, Kendall was so patient in spending 90 minutes with us for the appt. She made sure to write GF all over the bakery's copy of the receipt. We went with a totally GF round single tier of lemon custard filling and two plain, and undecorated sheet cakes- one with strawberry and one with buttercream. All of them tasted great! No one, including the guests could taste the difference! The cake decorator also did a wonderful job. They copied the plane on the side of the cake to keep it with the travel theme just as we wanted it. Also the flowers matched my bouquet exactly. What a success! We would highly recommend this bakery for any occasion in the area. read more

I live in Port Jefferson Village and frequent this bakery often enough. If you're looking for any bakery that's affordable, this is not the place to go unless you're picking up some bread. If you're looking for better than average bakery goods and don't mind paying for that, I'd recommend LBB. They used to be more true to the idea of a French bakery, however, many years ago they were bought by another very successful and long standing bakery in Nassau county. However, their French bread is still more true to a real baguette than 90% of other places that simply form any number of different types of bread into the shape of a baguette and call it a baguette. It's supposed to be crusty and airy inside and theirs are. The cookies and pastries are quite good and they also offer a selection of meals and sides (offered cooled to reheat later) from the Messina Market. Their cakes are pricey but from the selections I've tried, are worth it. I ordered my wedding cake here and come back ever year for a smaller version of it (the cake with fresh berries with Chantilly cream filling is delicious but I believe it a special order). They will also fulfill custom orders for cookies and other goods like cupcakes if you call with some notice. read more

The worst experience ever! I ordered my wedding cake OVER the counter...they didn't even take time to sit down with me (I should have known right then it wasn't going to be good) I gave them a picture, they gave me a price. When I ordered they said "fondant" was more money, BUT assured me they could create my cake with buttercream. THEY COULD NOT... it was exactly what I said I did NOT want. After the fact they said it should have been made in fondant...why was I given a price for buttercream when it should have been made in fondant and why was I told they could make it in buttercream when they clearly could not. When I called to speak with the owner he admitted he didn't even see the cake before it was delivered. He dismissed what I told him and only listened to what his part time employee told him regarding our conversation. I'm NOT a complainer...I was very clear with what I wanted and they did NOT DELIVER!!! BEWARE. When all was said and done after paying $800 for a cake for 100 people Rich Messina offered me a $100 credit or a cake top done correctly...seriously??? They couldn't make it happen on my wedding day for $800 when I have 100 guests but offer it 1 year later done as I originally asked or $100 credit after I paid $800... I ordered 1dozen chocolate covered strawberries this morning.When my husband brought them home, my jaw dropped. The tray was half empty .. I called the bakery and spoke with a manager. She said the strawberries are used for fillings and fruit tarts which means they were not dipping strawberries. Why didn't the girl tell me that when I placed the order? We selected La Bonne Boulangerie as one of the cake vendors for our wedding. Props to their timeliness and quick response, because our fault, it was nearly one month out before the wedding and we totally forgot to set up a cake tasting and order the cake (I know, I know!). I immediately called and they had us come in that following weekend to set everything up. I really appreciated their accommodating customer service and helpfulness in what felt like a semi-urgent situation. We went to taste fillings and cake in their store, which felt a bit awkward because you did this off to the side, while the rest of the bakery filled up with customers on a busy weekend. This is not something that bothered me, but just wanted to note. We worked with Angela, who was warm, friendly and helpful in guiding us on our selection. Angela went back to speak with the owner, and then she returned to tell us that what we selected was more money. This was never mentioned while we did the tastings. She is just the messenger and a lovely woman, so I am calling out management and the owner. There should be prices provided beforehand or at least a "heads-up" during the tasting as to what may cost less or more because we then had to revisit the entire cake to determine if it was worth the money. Why they tell you afterwards is beyond me and it comes across as a tacky customer service fail. The owner came out and explained why what we selected cost more and he was willing to slightly negotiate after seeing our disappointment. As for the cake itself, we had our florist decorate it with fresh flowers, so I can't speak to the talent of their design team.
