Yes, the transmission need's it. To deciding to rebuild, or purchase a new transmission for a '92 Jeep YJ back in '11(?) I think? We went with a refurbished one & she is still running smoothly. They quoted me $630 for a basic transmission flush when the dealership quoted me $350 after taxes. That type of price gouging is ridiculous.

My transmission in my Nissan Sentra went out today out of no where. We were suggested to go to Crom by Firestone because Firestone doesn't do transmission work. Got my car towed there and a mechanic mentioned that my car (due to year and mileage) might be under Nissan warranty. He was correct and saved me a bit of money. They didn't personally work on my car but I felt like they deserved recognition for trying to help someone out. Very friendly staff and kind people. Tried to get a transmission/ torque convertor fluid exchange do e was told to bring it in on friday. Then om friday they coild not complefe the service not worth it. This is the same shop that did not install the gasket in my rear differential as required per the manual during a rebuild. read more

We had a 2008 Nissan Rogue that had the transmission seize. Crom looked at it for free, and gave us a pretty fair quote- $3100 and some change. Unfortunately, the cost of that repair was just out of budget for us and wasn't worth it with as old as the car is. We shopped around for a buyer and had an offer for about $900; we called Crom to ask if it was alright for the buyer to pick the car up from their shop or if they'd rather us have it towed back to our home. Owner of the shop took a look at the rest of our car and offered to write a check and buy it for personal use, at a little bit higher than the original offer we had. Signed over the title, left with a check. A family run business, sweet people and the process was so easy. I'd recommend them to anyone around the Jacksonville/Camp Lejeune area. read more

I wanted to write an honest review about my experience at this transmission specialist Bob and his team at Crom. I showed up with a transmission that had been, at quite an expense to myself been rebuilt in a faulty manner which no one wanted to touch. I had been ripped off and after spending 4.2K on what was supposed to be a 'high performance' transmission from Monster Transmission I couldn't even use first gear out of the box from Monster, and had a blinking O/D light. I am about to deploy and I didn't have time to wait another 6 weeks for a turn around to send it to FL and then get MAYBE a non-defective product. Bob sat in the vehicle with me and saw the codes that I was getting and that the gear shift solenoids were shifting properly. After pulling the valve body and determining that it wasn't the valve body that was faulty, I made the decision to have him pull the transmission and rebuilt it AGAIN.  This was after I saw how many other customers had been ripped off by monster transmissions. I mean I had to REALLY dig to find it on the internet and I regretted I didn't see the reviews sooner.  What he found was absolutely unbelievable.The clutch packs which was out of tolerance of .01 x4 which was the main culprit preventing first gear from working but also a blown out valve plug a broken, deep pan bracket which he had to fabricate a fix for, corrosion on the 'replaced high performance shims', There was another section that had been installed 180degrees from Ford Specifications as well. Bob felt so bad for me after 3 days of troubleshooting and rebuilding even though he replaced all the rusted pieces and parts that they had 'replaced' at monster free of cost to me. Can you believe that Bob found that monster transmissions had put in rusted components into a transmission!? SMH for monster trans. I digress, He re-shimmed everything else back to spec and the transmission is very nice.  He had pictures and showed me in person all the replaced components as well. There was no mystery as to what he had installed and it was an honest and transparent experience.  I wish I had the sense to just have sought out Crom from the beginning! I would have been back on the road within 2 weeks with his 2 year unlimited mile warranty and not spent twice that for a piece of junk that was just painted nice! It now has positive firm shifts and it operates as it should. I don't know if I'll be re-funded by monster but I now trust Crom transmissions to rebuilt my transmissions. I know that Bob rebuilding my transmission and unraveling the problems was tough but he solved it and I'm as happy as I can be and I know that he could have charged me much more for the parts that he had to replace. he loves what he does and the whole shop was awesome to work with as well! I came out 500-800 ahead and only paid for labor.  I trust these guys they are professional and love what they do! Happy to do business with them again in the future. Now a loyal customer! read more

Quite possibly the best Auto Repair shop in Onslow County. Always explains the problem and solution in easy to understand terms even the less expensive options. Had my transmission rebuilt here with excellent results and guarantee. If you always think that car repair shops will take every opportunity to rip you off- you have to go see Bob and his family at Crom. You will leave feeling like really cared about you and not the Dollar. I have been there twice and the last time what I thought would be a major repair turned out to be the tightening of a bolt or two- And to my surprise! NO CHARGE!!! Came here for an opinion on a noise so Bob jumped in and we took it for a drive. He hooked it up to the computer and didn't get any codes and didn't think anything was wrong with it, so his advice was, "I wouldn't spend any money on it until it codes on the computer". I'm female. He could have told me something was wrong and I would have believed him. His honesty made me feel so comfortable, I came back to get the transmission fluids/filters changed since my mileage was due for it anyways. Bob is great, the staff is great and their waiting room is perfect if you have to bring in a little one since they have a table-top train track and toys for them to play with. I have had my car serviced here twice. I needed my transmission replaced and they went over all my options from the most expensive to the least expensive. I was happy that they answered all questions. The new transmission has been working great for months and I don't feel like I overpaid. Talk to the owner on a Saturday. Describe to my problem and he assured me that his recommended repair would more than likely take care of my issue. He ordered parts on Monday and install them on Tuesday. Took him less than 30 minutes to do the repair. Charged me $250. As soon as I drove away the problem was not only still there it appeared to even be worse. I immediately called and now my transmission needs completely rebuilt. To the tune of 2895. I feel I was taken advantage of and wasted $250. He didn't listen to my original problem as when I explained it to him again after the repair he said those are two totally different things. I assure you I will never go back and I will make sure everyone I know also knows not to take their car there. Horrible service. read more

I went to Crom's because my check engine light came on and I needed it off so I could get my car inspected. $2500.00, 4 days, and a new transmission later, I go to pick up my car and find out the check engine light was still on. I was livid. Chad checked my car and found an O2 sensor was faulty and before he handed me the keys he popped my hood and messed around with some wires and sure enough, my check engine light came off. I was upset that they were going to return my car to me with the problem not fixed after spending $2,500.00 on the repairs. Then they told me I had a clamp under my transmission that rusted off and that they can order me a new one and fix it along with my grounding wires and fix my battery cables. Chad told me it would take about an hour or two but that their schedule was booked so i would have to come back. I returned on saturday to drop my car off so they can work on it monday. I called monday morning early to make sure the right work would be done on my car in case they forgot, and told them to call me with a price quote. It was almost 3 pm that day and i hadn't heard from anyone from there, despite me calling at least 4 times. Finally they told me the price quote but Chad told me he would have to order a new clamp $25.00 and can install it tomorrow. I was upset because if he ordered it that same morning, it would be done. Annoyed and just wanting it to be over, I told them to keep it one more day and install it tuesday. Today is Tuesday. I got back from work and called at 3:45 and found out they didn't touch my car! I was ready to pick it up! I feel like they forgot and then lied to me about it. It was very unprofessional and I no longer trust this business. They seem like good people but are unreliable. I called Crom's Transmission as I was having an issue with a loud grinding noise every time I put my mini-van in reverse. I was nervous about the possibility of it being my transmission as now was not the best time financially to replace one. They said to bring it in so they could take a look at it, I had recently had my brakes done and apparently one of the fittings in the rear had popped off and was trapped in the cavity of the braking system which was causing the horrible sound. There was also a leak in the brake lines and made sure to inspect the ones in the front as well with also needed repairing. I love that they were very thorough and concerned for my safety, they even brought out the fitting to show me and kept me informed with everything going on. I knew that my van's transmission had not been serviced in a while and had them take care of that as well so there would not be an issue later on. It is a great peace of mind knowing that I was in good trustworthy hands, when I picked up my van the next day she ran like a dream.
