Located in strip mall off of Quivira and 75th. We stopped here because I had to make a trip to JoAnne. We were initially greeted at the door and directed to our booth. The first woman who attended to us was unfriendly and seemed to be preoccupied. She did bring us our drink order quickly and brought menus. The second woman who attended to us was much more pleasant, attentive and professional. When our orders came out, a pleasant young man delivered them but my order was incorrect and had to be sent back. I believe this was due to the fact that the first server was preoccupied about something and not paying mind to our orders. The second server was very apologetic and my order came out perfectly. I had the cazuelada and it was remarkable. A mixture of shrimp, carne asada, chicken, chorizo served with sour cream, pico, rice and beans and tortillas...it was enough for two people and I took some of it home. This used to be my "go to" Mexican restaurant. I ordered Tacos Pastor. The menu description & what I received were VERY different. I had the waiter bring me the menu to point out the issue. The manager joined us & admitted the menu was incorrect. Turns out, the 1 year old menu is full of errors & they've done nothing to correct them. I finally got the meal as described in the menu description. About half way through, I was very surprised to find PINEAPPLE mixed in with the meat. A very small amount, but nowhere was pineapple listed as an ingredient. I'm mildly allergic to pineapple. This is NOT the place to go if you have any food allergies!! The manager also didn't comp my meal despite the error being their fault! Very sad to cross this restaurant off my list. Poor management, training & mediocre food. Thumbs down!! read more

This place has top 3 best queso in Kc. Someone I know orders from them weekly. Margaritas are affordable, strong, and has quality Tequila. The outdoor patio has flat screen tvs outside. Watching the game at the bar is also a treat because of the inviting atmosphere. read more

Dos Reales has a permanent spot in my heart. The food is consistently great - especially the tacos on Taco Tuesday. It's basically a dollar a taco for dinner. I love the atmosphere here. Large restaurant with brightly colored walls, Mexico-style decor and an indoor fountain. The service is friendly and fast and they always have great specials. Margaritas are tasty too! Have had the regular queso, spinach dip, and ay chihuahua, all great. My husband always gets the burrito bravo, which he loves. A friend gets steak fajitas, also good. I have had the enchiladas suizas - not my favorite. Too cheesy (I never even though that was possible?!) but the pound of melted queso on top of the strong Swiss cheese flavor was too much. Guadalajara Special was ok if you like lots of fried food. Tamale and nachos were good, deep fried flautas were too bland and over-fried. Tacos de carne asada are awesome - love the fresh flavor of corn tortillas, cilantro and onion. My go-to favorite is the Habanera - roasted pulled pork cooked with green peppers, onions, and tomatoes topped with cheese sauce and served fajita style with tortillas. AWESOME and perfect flavor combo! Pork is good enough to eat all by itself. Rice and beans here are both good and come with most meals. I find it hilarious that they have a menu section titled "Healthy Salads." Judging from the descriptions, they are not healthy whatsoever as they come served in a fried tortilla shell. I'm surprised this place only had 3 stars. I come here fairly often and always leave satisfied. The place is pretty big so we always get a seat right away. Once sat, the chips and salsa are usually pretty fast to be delivered to the table. Their salsa has a great flavor, not the disgusting marinara tasting salsa that a lot of places have. Service is usually good, but can be hit or miss. It's never been horrible service, but just something to keep in mind. I'm typically more concerned with the food anyway.. Although I usually only stick to a few items that I like, the things I do get are always fresh and tasty and always come out lickety-split fast. I typically go for the Burrito Chipolte. Awesome with the side of sour cream is comes with. They don't skimp on the chicken either, so it's quite a big portion. Rice is pretty good, and the beans are...well..beans. My wife and I ate at Dos Reales last night, taco Tuesday. We were disappointed with the food quality and service. The refried beans were literally burned, had black scorched beans mixed throughout. This had to be obvious when when the beans were plated. The taco shells were overcooked. The Modelo on tap was the best part of the meal, really cold and refreshing! Our server barely spoke English so we didn't complain, even gave her a nice tip despite poor service. There are too many great Mexican restaurants in KC that don't disappoint. We've eaten here for years. Earlier in the summer, I visited for lunch and ordered a taco salad that consisted of a cup of brown lettuce and a few chunks of tomato sprinkled with cheese and meat. Not impressed, but everyone deserves a second chance. We went back last night and without a doubt, it's the worst restaurant experience in my recent memory. I ordered the enchiladas supremes; they were cold. Not lukewarm....cold, as if they'd just been pulled out of a refrigerator and under-warmed in a microwave. But the sauce, oh gawd. It tasted like straight tomato paste out of the can, and was that thick. It was spread on top of the enchiladas, not poured. No idea how this place has 4-5 stars from folks! Ordered: chorizo fundito, Carne asada tacos, verde enchiladas. The enchiladas were edible, but weak in flavor. The tacos were made with low grade beef. Some of the worst I've ever had. The meat even looked cheap. Little to no flavor aside from the lime juice they put on top. The fundito was NOT made with the cheese they advertise. Fundito should be elastic and delicious. This waste like white canned nacho cheese with a huge pool of oil from the chorizo. First, let me say that both stars are for their food. Their food is truly excellent, and deserves 4-5 stars. But, I've come to the conclusion that Dos Reales doesn't want my business, and that really bums me out. So, I work in the same strip center that this DL is located in, which makes it really convenient for lunch, except, due to poor management...it's not convenient, at all. I've been ordering from here for 5 years, at least 20x per year. Out of the 100 plus times I've ordered, I can count on one hand how many times I've gotten exactly what I ordered, for the price that was shown on their menu, and not been argued with, by a server or management, about what my order comes with. Here are just a few examples... *About six months ago: I stop in to grab a TO GO menu, since mine was pretty old, and they'd occasionally have issues with their website being down. I take the TO GO menu from the server, go back to the office, and the next day order my lunch. I go in to pay, and my food is over $2 more than what the TO GO menu shows. I told the server about it, and they were like "Oh yeah, the TO GO menus aren't right". Okay, so why did you give me one when I came in yesterday? If you change your prices you HAVE to change them on the menu. *Last week I call in a pickup order for my regular lunch entree. The server asks if I want beans or rice. I say "It comes with both." she says "No, it's one or the other" I say "I'm looking at your online order menu (the ability to order online is fairly new), and it clearly states rice AND beans". She says "I'm sorry but it's wrong, which do you want?". So, I go in to get my riceless order, and the manager is in there. I say "Hey, it shows online that it comes with both" and she says "Oh well, we can't control all the websites that show our menu...they could be wrong" and so I say "It's literally on YOUR OWN SITE!", and proceed to whip out my phone and show her where it says rice and beans. She acts like a complete, and total jerk, but...I get my rice. *Today, I ordered online (which is so much easier than calling). I ordered the same meal I always do. I go to pick it up, and firstly...it still wasn't done 25 minutes after I ordered (over 10 min after I actually arrived). Okay, no biggie. Then they bring it out, and I walk outside, and realize the container with the lettuce and sour cream isn't inside. I go back in and let the (extremely sweet) bartender gal know. She tells a male server (who's there all the time and might be a manager...not sure). He opens a menu, looks at it, and starts to walk toward the kitchen saying "Oh the kitchen must have forgotten". Again...no biggie. Then he comes back and says "It doesn't come with it". I say "Yes it does. It has every single time I've ordered it." He says "No, just the dinner." I say "Listen it shows it right on your online ordering site, that it comes with lettuce and sour cream!". He reluctantly goes to the kitchen and get the sour cream and lettuce. While he's doing so I say to the (again, very sweet) bartender gal "Hey, every time I come in here I have to argue with someone to get what I ordered, if you get the chance maybe mention this to your owner.". She remembers me from the beans and rice thing, last week, since she was working the bar that day, and says laughingly "Yeah, my manager says every time you come in you're a problem". OH MY GOD! I couldn't believe she said that. Apparently asking for what the menu states comes with my food makes me a "problem". The server dude comes back with the container, and I reach out my hand to take it from him, and say "Thanks!", and he tosses it onto the counter and walks away. ...these are just a few examples out of MANY. P.S. I'm always super duper nice when mistakes are made, but I'm really tired of having to plead my case to get what I ordered. I really, REALLY love the food here, but if they don't start treating their customers better, they're going to lose a very faithful one, forever. read more

This place has been here for years, so maybe my experience was unusual? The location is in a strip mall, in shawnee, but otherwise isn't awful in that respect. The decor is ok, nothing too "authentic" but appeared clean. Service was ok. We weren't understanding much of what each other said. This made asking about menu items and preparation a little difficult. The food was ok. I had a lunch combo with beans and rice, tacos and burritos. In a town with some great Mexican food, this was just average. Better tacos at Taco Bell. The burrito was a little better. My blue margarita cost the same as everywhere else, but was served in the smallest glass I've ever seen for this type of drink. Can't say I'd go out of my way to go here. We were extremely happy with the fact they were running a drink special and on a Saturday night! We are all about saving some money while also enjoying dinner with adult beverages. Not only that, but we were pretty pleased with the food. The queso was delish as I wanted to smother everything on my plate with it! I paid more for chicken but when I got home, instead of one chicken taco, a chicken enchilada and a chili rellano I received two ground beef tacos, one ground beef enchilada and not sure what the pile of ground beef represents. I don't eat red meat so tonight will be a bowl of cereal I guess. I called and they said the manager would refund my money in the morning. If I wanted my dinner I could go pick up another "correct" meal by driving 30 minutes there and back. To add injury to insult, my online order was taken back to the kitchen when I walked in. Well, it has gotten better over the last few weeks. I go here once a month because my girlfriend likes it. For me, I have had better but they did change things around. Last time the food was pretty good. They make a great cheese dip but way to expensive for a small bowl. Chips and salsa is good. Had tacos and burrito. It was much better than a few times before. I have had the taco salad and it too was good. Service is always hit and miss and so are the drinks so if your looking inexpensive Mexican this place works well. But no wows here. read more

How dare they call themselves "Authentic Mexican Food"? When I ordered a Guacamole appetizer, and they brought me store pre-packaged guacamole??? And it was $4. The tacos stunk of old oil and the carne asada had an awful flavor. I asked if they had a hotter salsa than what they usually serve, and the waiter was kind enough to go to the kitchen to whip a really hot salsa (very good by the way), so that was a plus. Ive always had a great experience here till last night. A friend and I went up for beers and tacos. We sat at the bar which I have never done, it took the bartender 10 minutes to get us a beer, we then ordered hard shelled tacos and got soft shells, had to order another round of beers 3 times just to get 1 round, asked for the tab and it took him another 10 minutes. There were only 5 other people at the bar but he was on his phone most of them time laughing and talking. This was my second visit to Dos Reales and it was just as good as the first. It has a fun decor to it and a small outside seating area if you like to eat out in the elements. The free chips and salsas come out shortly after you're seated, and they'll keep coming as long as you want more. The house salsa is good on its own. Their hot salsa doesn't pack much of a punch, but the flavor is there and I like it chunky. The cilantro is what I really liked about it. There's red and green hot sauce on the table if you want more kick to the salsa. The red hot sauce has a pretty good bite to it. We had the Huervo Con Charizo and the Carnitas. You can have them with flour or corn tortillas, and the tortillas arrive at the table nice and hot. Straight forward plating, but two delicious menu selections. I don't know if the charizo is made in house, but it reminded me of Supremo Charizo, which is my choice when I fix it at home. It was fluffy and not oily. The carnitas were cooked perfectly and they weren't shredded to bits like some places do. There was still texture to them. I liked my sides just as much as the mains. I'm nit picky about my Spanish rice and refried beans. These were very good, definitely in my top ten thus far. Service was good. A bit of a wait on the check, but not long enough to irritate me. I look forward to my next visit and trying out a margarita. They have some good drink and cerveza specials, and the prices on everything overall are reasonable. read more

Not just the meatless options, but a lot of Mexican restaurants have all their veggies drenched in oil and overcooked For both fajitas or vegetarian plates and this place is much better.
