Update: we got roti and it clearly wasn't properly cooked. The manager was quick to point out that it was cooked well and didn't even apologized. We were regulars there but no more. If you can't treat customers with professionalism, we don't want your food. And neither do all other people. Unexpectedly delicious! The decor was most definitely not something to write home about, and if I came later than brunch, I'd be ominously concerned by the disproportionately sized PA for the room. However, the three of us sat down for brunch and ordered three dosas. My pondicherry dosa was delightfully spicy without being overpowering. My girlfriend's mysore dosa, also delicious. Our friend Reg got a paper dosa that was, as appropriate, the size of the friggin' table. The chutneys provided (mint, mango, a delightful sun-dried tomato thing and a spicy orange thing) were an excellent compliment to the dosas, and the sambar was tasty, but not particularly memorable. Overall, if it's a wider dosa selection that you want, this is a good alternative to other exceptional joints in the neighborhood (like Delhi Palace), and for the price ($6-8 a dosa), you can't beat it. However, you'll be able to eat your way through the whole menu pretty fast... and I intend to try! read more

Best authentic South Indian food I found during my stay in NYC! Their chutneys were incredibly tasty and so were their dosas and pakoras. Their papdi chat was also very good. I purchased the $20-for-$30 worth of food deal off of Yelp and dined in with 4 others. We were seated promptly and given much attention. Dosa Delight so near and dear to my heart! Not too far from work, I can hop on the 7 train and eat some dosas and go back to work full and happy. The staff are friendly and the kitchen always customizes my dosa the way I like it. "Paper dosa, extra crispy, little oil, tarmarind sauce on the side!" My mouth is watering as I type this review. The masala dosa is good too with the curried potatoes. Starch heaven haha. The dosas are gigantic, the super thin ones, and so perfectly curled. I don't know how they do it, but they know what they are doing in the kitchen! If you're in the mood for a thali (literally means plate), that's tasty and filling too. Dosas take time, at least 5 minutes to make so patience is a virtue. You can call in ahead of time if you're doing a take-out order. Clean restaurant, good vibe, all vegetarian! This place has gone down hill fast. I have frequented this dosa joint for 4+ years and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the dosas were crisp and vibrant, and the delightful coconut chutney and spicy rasam stood out as well. I don't have high standards for service, but in the last six months the faces have changed and I've started getting very slow and indifferent servers. The orders took a long time and there were sometime mix-ups, but I lived with it because the food made it worthwhile. Today was the kicker, though. I didn't recognize a single server--a whole new crew. I had to remind the servers three times about the lassis we ordered--took 20 minutes. Appetizers took 30 minutes. Then the main courses: One dosa brought to the table--wrong dosa; next they forgot about the vegetable thali and the other dosa (40 minutes). Asked them to just give us the check and forget about missing two dosas and the thali. After 7 or 8 more minutes, I just walked to the front counter and got the bill myself. Finally, the negligent service now outweighs the benefits of the food. I won't go back. Really?! Yes, and what a shame. read more

Today was my first time visiting Dosa Delights (by the recommendation of my friends). The food was absolutely amazing and the service was impeccable. We were greeted warmly by staff and our waiter was quite patient and helpful in explaining the menu to my strictly vegan friend. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jay, who exerted the extra effort to ensure my friend's dietary means were satisfied and that we both enjoyed our meal. Just ate a quick meal here, I've eaten here before and thought it needed a mention. I had a mulligatawny soup which hit the spot, perfect comfort food I also had some upma which was served with my favorite coconut chutney (which I could drink by the glass). I usually get the thali which covers all the tastes from sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami and makes a perfect meal. The chefs at Dosa Delight treated me to BEST Indian food I've ever had - the flavors were sharp and nuanced, and the heat did not nearly outcompete the other flavors. Yeah, they're slow. But the food's good and it's one of few places to get a decent dosa or utthapam in J-Heights. Also, it's pretty cheap. Came in for lunch and glad we did. We ordered paper masala dosa, which they roasted in ghee for me without additional charge. My husband ordered special onion rava masala dosa which was AMAZING!! I just happened into this place randomly, but I really enjoyed the food here, the service was fine and the prices very agreeable. The portions are generous too, so I was quite impressed. Indian food is often vegetarian, so even though I prefer the veggie stuff, I won't give them extra points for their commitment to the vegetable. Once I got back to my computer to check out the yelp reviews, I was shocked to see the bug bugaboo raise its head. I had just had a place I liked ruined by a roach experience, so this struck me as disturbing. But the bug reviews are all rather old, and I didn't see anything that indicated an infestation, I'll suggest this place to anyone who is in the Jackson Heights area until I see the bug issue raised again. read more

Everything was good; the rasam(tamarind based soup), masala dosa, the mango lassi. What wasn't good was the pani poori. It was so stale. They have good sauces though. read more

I came here for the first time and experience was really great. I would say one of the best place in NYC to eat Indian food. They had almost every I item in their menu including drinks at decent price. I had Samosa chaat (10/10), Masala dosa (10/10) and Masala Chai (8/10). While the restaurant recently changed management, it has only gotten better. I went to Dosa Delight with my aunt and we had the steamed dumplings, Puri Bhaji (Puri with Aloo tarkari), and the lime soda and everything was absolutely DELICIOUS!! I did a double take on the dumplings and had to remind myself this was a pure vegetarian restaurant because the soy inside the dumplings mimicked minced chicken so much. The dumplings were 10/10 and I would absolutely order them again. The Puri Bhaji was also very delicious, however, I did need to ask for the salt as I like it with a bit more salt but it tasted like something my mom would make, I would rate it 8.5/10, 1.5 points off for the ratio of puri to aloo. For amount of puris we had, sadly the aloo tarkari was not enough. The last thing we had was the lime soda and that was a 10/10, it tasted EXACTLY like the homemade lime sodas they made in South India, especially in Tiruvannamalai (where I had these homemade lime sodas first). I have become a regular at this place. They have the best vegetarian options and the food tastes delicious, just like homemade Indian food! I have tried their dosa, bisibela bath and dal makhani. Loved all of them. The only suggestion I would have for improvement is the coconut chutney, it tasted a bit bland for my (Indian) liking but not the worst. Their Dosas are spot on! I appreciate the fact that they have south indian food and are a good representation of what S. Indian food tastes like. Most Indian places you can find have only N.Indian options.. My bf and I went to Dosa Delight. We went on a Sunday afternoon, Parking is a pain but it was worth it. We had a groupon for a dinner for 4. I read some reviews from Yelp and was a little nervous but the gentlemen and our waitress were very very good. I didn't get her name. She was patient and explained everything and made suggestions. Great service. Very deceiving from the outside. Pretty nice size and clean on the inside. We had the spring rolls and samosa's. The rolls were fantastic. 3 were just enough. The ketchup like sauce was good with them. The Samosa was good but the spice catches you off guard. The cilantro sauce was amazing. For our entrees we had the Thali with Roti and it had a lot of different sauces and the rice was great. The pickles were spicy. We also had the butter dosa, Huge, we couldn't eat it all but it was okay. Then for dessert we had rice pudding, Yummm and Milk and honey balls. Super yumm.
