Ny husband and I have been to Kasa a couple of times and have been happy with our orders. We normally get their Thali plate or their roti kati roll. Their food comes out fresh and has such great flavor and spices to delight the palette. I particularly like their grilled chicken tikka and channa masala. A light fall breeze blew through the streets of beautiful California. After the San Mateo Historical Museum (I have a review about this place) we went for a walk, enjoying the weather and the atmosphere around us. We were thinking of getting something to eat, and Kasa Indian Eatery caught our eye. Since, I have little experience with Indian food, and I don't really know how to tell the difference between well prepared and poorly prepared food, I wanted to expand that field. So, we went in. + the place looked spacious enough and clean (I liked their napkin roses on the tables); + the food was ready fairly quickly, and an employee brought our dish, also serving two glasses of water (I felt the kindness and sincerity in that woman); + prices=size, affordable. - the Tikka Masala lost out to the one I tried at Pakwan Restaurant (you can also find my review on it); - the Naan was okay, but not as fresh as I would have hoped (especially since I don't eat bread products every day, so when that happens, I want to enjoy the taste). I visited this place with a small group on a Saturday morning when we couldn't get into the Zareen's located right next door. We found their service and food to be pretty good. In terms of options, I'd highly recommend the Samosa Chaat, Aloo Tikki Chaat and Kathi Roll. The world NEEDS more casual Indian eateries like Kasa.. It might not look like anything special from the outside, but this restaurant presents a healthy Californian spin on Indian food while maintaining the bold flavors and spice level (especially with their sauces: hot and super hot)! The menu is as simple as can be--you pick from a thali, wrap, or salad, along with a choice of entrees. Although salad is definitely by no means a typical Indian dish, the Yogi salad here was just amazing--on a bed of baby kale and other greens came a mix of kidney beans, corn, carrots, cucumbers, and chopped red cabbage, along with a thick citrus lime dressing and fried chickpeas on the side! This generous, colorful salad was crunch galore--the toppings reminded me of cole slaw, and the acidic dressing paired so nicely with everything! The Thali combo platter is a must-order--each one comes with dal (lentils), rice (the brown basmati was nutty and delicious), roti (oily but tasty), and several condiments: creamy raita yogurt, red cabbage slaw, cilantro chutney, and pickled onions, all of which added a refreshing tang to balance out the spicy curries! Speaking of which, the lamb curry with potatoes and the aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes) were both delicious, but my hats off to the keema muttar, a mixture of spiced ground free-range turkey with peas! This might have been the first time I've had turkey with Indian food, and the flavors were simply amazing! Finally, I tried the samosa chaat, a new dish they were offering, made of a broken samosa topped with chickpeas, yogurt, tamarind chutney, herb chutney, and pickled onions. This was a fantastic combination of crispy and soft textures and sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors, all in the same bite! One of my favorite Indian restaurants in San Francisco (circa 2009) was the original location of Kasa in the Castro District. Other than sharing a name, a logo and a menu, the Redwood City version of Kasa is literally nothing like it's namesake. The best items we ate were the potato samosas and chai, however we live in Silicon Valley and its not hard to find these items elsewhere because there is so much Indian food. All the curries tasted frozen, the nan and roti breads were clearly pre-made/preserved, and microwaved upon ordering. Even the rice was clumpy and mushy. My dining partner got a stomach issue right after this meal, so we will not be back. read more

I've really come to enjoy Kasa the more I eat there. Fast casual has been an awesome choice during the pandemic. Kasa's menu is pretty simple. There are 3 different kinds of rolls/burritos. They vary in size. The super kati roll is the biggest, and is equivalent to a burrito (includes rice). The other two are smaller and wrapped with naan or roti (no rice). The super kati roll is very large, so I usually ask for it with less rice. You can also get a salad or a thali meal, and items a la carte. I like Kasa because of their variety of "fillings". On top of the typical chicken tikka masala you would expect, they have interesting ones like aloo gobi (one of my favorites) and lamb curry. They have plenty of vegetarian options, which is awesome. I stopped by during the holidays for lunch (two adults shared one thali, which was sufficient for moderate hunger). After ordering, you take a seat and the staff will bring your oder to you. We were the only party there, so it was very quick. I like Indian food and have had a lot over the years (mostly in Sunnyvale / South Bay, as well as in India), and the flavors here seem standard. Service was quick and the staff was nice and polite. The food we were served was good. Not exactly run of the mill. Served in clean utensils. We had good outdoor street side seating. The street is cordoned off so we only had pedestrians walking past us. The location is good. Convenient parking is available close by in walking distance. Prices are just slightly on the higher side. Higher prices + lower portions = not worth your time I have been here many times in the 4 years I've lived in RWC, and have always liked it. I don't know when the change happened, but as of January 2022 the prices are higher - which is OK, I get it. However, on my last order, the size of the naan roll was dramatically smaller than what I remember. Put these two things together and you're better off going across the street. read more

This place was ok, not amazing. I can see they are trying to go for similar format as Zareen's in Palo Alto but the food is just not as good. Very kind people at the counter but the meal wasn't the greatest. Given its central location downtown there's a nonzero chance we'll be back from convenience but not to go out of my way for it. Order: Chicken tikka masala and Saag paneer platter (includes yellow daal, rice, small salad, yogurt dip and roti by default, extra to upgrade to naan) Lamb curry roti roll Pros: Downtown location Platter is a good deal for the price, and allows you to choose 2 entree dishes. A lot of outdoor seating and indoor seating. Cons: The food was verrrrry salty IMO, to an unnecessary level. Mango lassi is very heavy on the cardamom if that might bother you. Rolls are small for what I expected. Indoor seating area was really hot and this was at night. Yogi salad was very good. But the ground turkey dish was way too salty. Not healthy.

I sort of felt like I was tricked into coming in here with that strangely simple, but also confusing menu. It's the fact that the main menu items say they include one or two entrees, but the entrees are listed in a separate part of the menu. And that usually one doesn't expect that roti or naan are used as a wrap. And that the daily specials have drink and non-drink items listed side by side. From having sat inside the restaurant for half an hour or longer, it seems their primary customer base are regulars who order takeout, so they already know what they want. The passersby like me might have just been confused, since no one came in to order. One guy came in to ask if the meat was halal, only to be met with a firm "no". With the Indian/Pakistani place across the street being super busy though, I decided to take the road less traveled. So I ordered a Naan Stop Flavor, which was a naan wrap with a mango lassi. I don't have any complaints about the naan wrap. The naan and the chicken tikka masala were exactly what one would expect them to be. The chicken was never dry, and the sauce was well seasoned and balanced. The chutney was good as well. The mango lassi, I should warn, has a somewhat strong component of cardamom. The drink is typically made of mango, yogurt and cardamom spices, but I somehow expected it to be sweeter to balance out the main dish. Yet the drink tasted distinctively spicy, almost like it had ginger in it. I had to ask them if it did, which they confirmed it did not. I must've bit into the cardamom seeds then. One complaint I had was that the napkins were all arranged in an Instagrammable folded rose display -- cute, but impractical and potentially unsanitary. After the tikka masala dripping from the wrap, it was impossible to pull just one napkin from the arrangement with one hand, and very difficult to just use one without accidentally touching another, since each napkin was folded in between their neighbors on the bottom. It wasn't that the food or service were bad. In fact, I quite enjoyed the naan wrap and the menu was fairly priced. Perhaps the menu design could be restructured, and the napkins could be simply stacked as they should be. read more

I moved to the Redwood City area about a year ago, and since then I have frequented Kasa as my recent go-to Indian joint. It's located in downtown Redwood City on a corner, so unless you're able to snag a parking spot in one of the garages nearby, parking can be a little challenging. It's a very small establishment, and you go up to the counter to order the precooked food on the other side of the glass counter. Pros: It's fast - the food is already cooked. They have the most common Indian entrees (Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Palak Paneer, etc). The price is hard to beat, easily the cheapest I've seen in the bay area. $5 for half-order, $8.50 for full-order (full-order looks like 8-10oz of curry maybe?). Cons: The quality of the food is probably equivalent to the price-point. Don't expect the best thing you've ever eaten. The taste is average at best. If you do take-out or delivery, the naan and curries can get cold by the time it makes its way to your mouth (I live 10 min away). I would say if you want quality, this isn't it. You want to pay less for okay-ish/decent Indian food with a very limited (but popular) choices, Kasa will be right up your alley. read more

This place has potential. But given the competition in the area with popular Zareens & Broadway Masala, this is not people's first choice. Masa needs to differentiate themselves here if they want to do well. Some suggestions: Focus on North Indian dishes like Dosas, Chaat, etc which the others don't offer. Food needs to taste more fresh. And don't make it too spicy as the population here doesn't prefer that. Things Kasa is already doing well: Decor/ambiance and service. read more

So grateful to this business! My husband placed an order for takeout but I misunderstood and placed a second order. We ate our food and left. Later that day, we realized our mistake and I called to ask if the food was still there. They said no, it had been thrown out. Understandable. But they said they'd remake it at no charge! Amazing! It is always good to have options for Indian cuisine and Kasa is a worthy challenger to Zareen's within RWC. Both places have their weaknesses and strengths but I like Kasa for its generous thali servings and the food is delicious. In contrast Zareen's seems to be less generous compared to years past. So why the 3 stars? I felt like when I ordered over the phone, the person answering was hardly clear in speaking and so I was upcharged for naan and lamb. Additionally, at the cashier, the baseline tip is set at 18% (!) when most places let you set the base or it's 10% at most. Hence with our order, I was estimating the price would be $40 and bit more and instead it came out as over $50. My partner was about to pay but I can still do math in my head so I stopped him and asked why the charge was so high. That's when I found out the upcharge for naan and lamb and the high baseline tip. I told them to recalculate it and this time it was fine. I don't mind giving a larger tip/ paying more for food but it's concerning to me the baseline is set so high, upcharges are not made clear and if one is not careful, you could end up paying a lot more than expected. It's not outright deception but it doesn't make one feel like the place can be trusted. read more

It's not bad! Redwood City really needs more Indian food and I think this is a good addition to the area. I got the thali to share with my husband. I did think the portions were a bit small even for a thali (only like 3-5 bites of each food) so if you're hungry I would order a side too. I thought the flavor was decent. I got a chicken curry and a Saag paneer. The saag was a little on the watery side but I would still eat it. Chicken flavor was good. I would try other dishes next time. The optional spicy sauce on the side is incredibly spicy and I didn't even get the spiciest one. I felt like a hole was burning in my tongue! read more

I generally don't leave reviews because good restaurants already have good reviews and no restaurant has been bad enough for me to take time out and write a bad review for them. That changed when I ordered from here (#OD054 Grubhub) By any definition of the term, this is not Indian food. Any Indian entree has a base of onion and/or tomatoes and/or yogurt with spices for flavor. The quantity of spices may vary, but they are ALWAYS there. They are indispensable. Just like Olive oil is indispensable to Italian cooking. We ordered vegetarian Thalis from here and EVERYTHING in it was bland. Karahi paneer had boiled veggies and large raw pieces of paneer. Paneer Masala was cooked in store bought tomato paste without spices. (Masala literally means spice). The only saving grace was that the quality of ingredients was good and may have resulted into magical food in the hands of a good chef. The spiced infused tomato gravy was rich, creamy, and satisfying. Yay for using thigh meat, it was so soft and moist. (+) Lamb Curry is worth the small surcharge. The lamb is stewed to a fork tenderness and the curry is robustly spiced. (+) Samosa was deliciously flaky with a soft, creamy spiced potato filling. The accompanying chutney was tangy and sweet. (+) I like it HOT and they weren't playing with their "super hot" hot sauce made with Thai bird chili. It's a nice burn. (+) Warm, welcoming staff. The sweet cashier who also prepared our order insisted on helping me bring our order to the outdoor patio (there was no line at the time). I've become an instant fan of this place. Was walking around downtown R.C. and saw this nondescript place along Broadway street but decided to pop in to see what it was all about. Just wanted to look at the menu (a menu posted by the entrance would have been nice) but ended up ordering because everything on the menu looked scrumptious. The cashier was friendly and offered to help with questions, so that was a good start. We ended up ordering a thali with saag paneer & chicken tikki masala (a platter of various food items served on a compartmentalized metal platter) and an aloo gobi kati roll (cauliflower & potatoes wrapped in a roti). The food was really, really good. Some indian places have an overpowering use of spices (which could be a good thing), but for me, I enjoyed their toned-down use of spices, but not lacking flavor in anyway. Watch out for that green monster of a hot sauce. It really packs a punch! Another benefit of a newly opened establishment (2 weeks now) -- I get to read ALL the reviews to date. What's refreshing about this place is that the owner/operator responds honestly - apologetic, admitting shortfalls and all - and appears to genuinely take reviews into making their business better ... well, at least here on Yelp. Love, love, love the way their restaurant turned out. I always enjoy a place that has a lot of gray tones to their atmosphere. Kasa is the newest place to grace downtown Redwood City, located right in the middle between a pho restaurant and a coffee shop. There's a good amount of tables inside and all the way towards the back is their kitchen and menu. What I like most is that their menu is super straightforward and simple to navigate so you're not left wondering what you want for a long time. I had a craving for samosas this morning so I popped by for lunch and got 2 orders of samosas ($8) only to come back about 10 minutes later because my cousin wanted to try them out, too. She opted for their roll with paneer chicken tikka masala and their far far munchies which are these cool bright colored chips dipped in sauces. For $2 you're able to get a good amount and their sauce is fantastic. Service is also very welcoming. Both times we were greeted upon entering and given ample time to shift through the menu. Food comes out relatively quick and you're sent on your way with no issues. Can't wait to see how they end up doing in the long run! read more

Good grab-n-go Indian spot in RWC. Have tried the ones in SF so wanted to make sure this location was up to par. Took a thali today and was a great mix of flavor and portion size. Nice presentation, the items were separated beautifully and many different, tasty flavors. Got the tikka chicken masala & curry lamb. Both were very good, but the lamb stood out. Also the dal was awesome. Did the naan substitute for the roti - great decision for $1.50. Big enough that one is fine for the whole meal. Only reason it's not 5 star is price. With naan, tax and tip the thali comes out to $20. Not horrible, but not a deal either. Overall, very good meal and for sure will come back. read more

First the good. The samosas, chutneys and chai are awesome. That's about it. The chole dish was raw, roti seemed to lack flavor almost like a frozen chapati and the chicken quite forgetful. Out of total support for a good neighbourhood Indian place, a prospective "Adda", I thought maybe giving feedback would actually help. So I let the owner know about the raw chickpeas. She was quite defensive. I was open and hopeful to give it a second chance and I ordered the Kati roll. This experience was even more disappointing than the first. Really good food, but the portions are a bit small for the price. I had a 2 entree combo. You can see on the large shallow plate that the main entrees occupy the smallest parts! I mean it was hardly one tablespoon full. However, it was really tasty with nice flavor and spice. Also all the sides provided a nice variety. Finally, the rice was fluffy and perfect to soak up the sauces. I also added naan which drove my lunch to near $20. So overall a bit expensive, but nice presentation. And great flavor. read more

The "chickpea puffs" is basically boondi lol, I was expecting something fancy :) For the entree I ordered alu gobi. It was slightly bland and had a lot of turmeric. I couldn't get much flavor. Was hoping to get something that has been missing in the Bay Area ... authentic rolls ... albeit, while I was excited and drove a long distance to experience the rolls at this place ... supposedly their speciality & focus item ... I have to admit, it was a disappointment. Maybe my expectations were high but still, roll with raw dough and big chunks of chicken (my definition of stuff inside the roll is bite size) did not meet my expectations at all. I will try this place one more time before I lose hope since I am a rolls fan and want to encourage authentic places that want to specialize in certain items. Delicious Naan burritos! Most Indian places will have these in a regular tortilla. It is 10x better in fresh naan. My favorite filling is the Chicken Tikka Masala. They actually give you a ton of chicken in there. I also love the Samosas & cold chai here. read more
