I think this dosa restaurant deserves more than three stars. The customer service was excellent- the cashier must deal with so many difficult people. The lady in front of me took five minutes to order two samosas. I also felt like a difficult customer because I had at least 10 questions about different menu options. She was so patient and helpful. I ended up ordering the onion masala dosa and the poori saagu. I thought the flavor of the dosa was good, I love the sour flavor of the fermented dough. I thought that the chopped onion was a little bit over the top, and the masala was mediocre best. I really enjoyed the poori sagua. It came with a delicious curry potato that I loved, I would definitely order this again. Seems like a few menu items that I missed which looked tasty like the masala puri. Will return! read more

I had the mysore masala dosa here and although the spicy spread on the dosa tasted good, I was severely disappointed by the sambar's taste. Maybe it just lacked salt or something very crucial to its very definition :( The place is in a nice spot in the mall. I could maybe give them one more try but feel that the sambar let me down too much now. read more

We got the samosas, a paneer dosa and a onion rava masala dosa. The dosa were good. Samosas had good flavor but they were cold. Chutneys are watery and prices are a bit high. Lots of tables and seating in the restaurant which is inside the mall. Service was fine. read more

This is the best bangalore style dosa.. hands down the best.. all negative reviews are false.. freshly made dosa , idli and other street food are available. Great ambiance and it's always busy .. they recently added bisibele bath and masala puri chaat as well. The cheese and Pav bhaji dosa are phenomenal. Service is excellent very friendly staff , I have seen ppl taking forever to order they are very patient. Food is freshly prepared which is why there is a short wait time. I've been hyped for this place since the coming soon sign months ago but they're finally here! The first time I came I made the mistake of getting it to go because it's so much worse. The dosa will get soft and it's just not good to go. I have to say the paneer masala dosa vs masala dosa is really not that different. They don't really put a lot anyways so just opt for the cheapest option cus you won't really taste it. My second time coming, my experience was much better. The dosa is crisp and delicious. They take card and there's lots of seating. My only complaint is this place is pretty expensive. Its like $16 for a dosa and there's not much stuff inside. The mango lassi is like $7 so I didn't get it but.... it's pretty small too so... lol. I think if this place was cheaper I'd def come back more often. read more

Ordered idli dipped in sambar. It comes in a plastic container. There is no chutney with it. I have never seen any place serve idli without chutney. The idli were not soft. Sambar was not as warm. I would not recommend this place. read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant for Bangalore style snacks. I have even given them 5 star ratings in the past. The last time I went there, I Paid for my lunch (it is quite pricey I should say), but my dosa was not ready even after 25 minutes of wait. The waiters kept fooling me saying the next dosa was my order - but, right after that, they would give it away to someone else. This happened 3 times. I was so frustrated that I just walked away after paying for my lunch. I spoke to the owner over the phone immediately (who never bothered to call me back after his investigation). One of my all-time favorite spots when the dosa craving hits the fan! They started with a food truck in the Newport, Jersey City region and developed such a dedicated customer base that they promoted their business to a permanent shop on the first floor of the Newport Mall. They specialize in different types of dosas which is a South Indian dish that consist of a savory crispy crepe rolled and stuffed with spiced potato mash. It comes with a cup of sambar (hot spiced lentil soup) and coconut chutney, both of which are great for dipping and eating the crepe. I generally go for their mysore masala dosa, which has a special gunpowder chutney lining inside their dosa that adds a kick of additional flavor. We are also a fan of their uttapams, which are like savory pancakes where the batter consists of onions, chili's and tomatoes. These also come with a cup of sambar and coconut chutney. Another favorite appetizer of ours is their somaso chaat, which is a crushed samosa (fried potato pastry) covered with spiced chickpea gravy, yogurt, tamarind and mint chutneys. It's very tangy and filling! They have a great selection of beverages as well, and our favorites are the buttermilk (savory salted fermented yogurt drink - great for hot summer days) and their filter coffee (specially brewed piping hot sweetened South Indian coffee - great for a freezing winter day). One thing I'd love to see more is a bit more tanginess to their sambar as well as more availability of rasam (another delicious hot tomato/tamarind soup). Their ambiance is neat, and it's always bustling with people due to high popularity. Their service is also prompt and quick. Overall, one of our favorite comfort food spots, and we are so glad to have our own Dosa Spot in Newport! read more

Popped into this restaurant with high expectations but sadly I didn't have a good experience. Maybe it was an off day but from the one time I was here I don't think I will return. Ordered Mysore masala dosa and onion rava dosa. Mysore masala dosa was cold to touch ! And Rava dosa was lukewarm. Even Sambar was on the cold side. Imagine going to a dosa shop and being served a dosa that is not freshly made ! Perhaps It wasn't made to order, it was sitting there for sometime or it was just bad service. i never checked out the food truck before but was excited to try dosa spot when it opened in the mall! i got the masala dosa for takeout. the store seemed very popular and lots of couples and families were sitting inside to eat. for the amount of filling inside the dosa and at nearly $13 after tax, it was pretty sad - i dont know what the prices usually are for dosas but i had higher expectations. there wasn't a lot of potato filling in general. for the little it did have though, it was pretty decent tasting. i also wish there was some explanation of what the sauces were, i don't eat indian cuisine that often and had no idea what they were. dipped the dosa in them and did NOTTT like them at all overall a very sad experience for me, wondering if there are other things that are "must try" items and i just ordered the wrong thing. read more

This has been our favorite place for South Indian food(they had a food truck before) and now that they have a restaurant in the mall from noon till night, it's literally the best thing to have in the neighborhood. I like the chutney they make and their mysore masala dosa and crispy vada. Their filter coffee is great and also jamoon. The new place is nicely done and their service is good, there are good number of tables to dine in. They have chats on their menu and lot more options. Good to see a dosa joint here in the mall. It was much needed. However, if you don't have a tolerance for hot green chillies, this spot is not for you. The Dosa are very good but the Coconut Chutney is way too spicy and so is the Sambhar. The sambhar has also deteriorated in quality over the last couple for weeks- a bit too watery now. Very good dosa, ambience and South Indian coffee! Good customer service, and appreciate kitchen cooking in open setting.

1) Time taking: Takes a loooong time to serve. We missed 30mins of movie due to their "delay"; 2) Poor customer service: We wanted to withdraw our order as they were taking time and our movie was running out. They refuses to help us. Finally, we managed to convince them that we ll take food after the movie. (billing person and dosa maker was making faces!) All in all, very bad experience, spoiled our movie, made us miss lunch. Authentic, simple South Indian dosa/idly/vada spot. Chutneys are to die for! Food tastes good for sure. I loved their kesari (dessert). Ambiance has Indian vibes all over. Wait time is reasonable. Cashier and workers are courteous. Some tables are rickety. Some aren't spotless clean. They could improve at that end. We used to go to the dosa spot food truck and used to love it. Was Very eager to try it out in the mall. After "opening soon" sign delayed by months, when it finally opened and we went there, they said they are "closed", despite clearly shown as "open" on google and their timings showed as "open". First disappointment. Second time we called and confirmed that they were open before we went. Ordered paneer mysore masala dosa and mysore Masala dosa (ghee roasted). The prices are very expensive, each dosa almost costed $18, and the sambar was thin and tasteless. The chutney was watery and had no substance. While the dosa itself tasted good, it's not worth $18, especially when the side chutney and sambar tasted bad that we ate the dosa alone. The "mysore masala" was barely put on. It was like a good basic plain dosa but for $18. I really hope they can turn around and make it similar to the food truck for I miss it !! read more

Mediocre food. Popped into the Dosa Spot restaurant in the Newport Mall for lunch while at work. Got the Mysore Masala Dosa and was not too impressed by the quality. It tastes ok, but I can certainly make better dosas at home. I also thought the prices were on the higher side for South Indian food - paying $16 for a Mysore Masala dosa that was just average is not something I would want to do again. If you are craving South Indian food, try A2B (Adyar Anand Bhavan) - their quality is consistent and never disappoints. read more
