Limited menu. For lunch you can chose from three different Paninis; a salad or a bowl of soup. That's it. I opted for the soup du jour, which on Saturday is black bean and quinoa. The portion is so small and the amount of quinoa is microscopic. Doshi offers a limited breakfast until 11am and three different entrees for dinner starting at 5pm. Great place to eat, very unique flavors and atmosphere. I would recommend the yachea gogi. Also had the Mumbai streets which is definitely a taste of India! Great staff and prices. Unique coffeeshop located in a more run-down side of town. The decor is super random and the furniture is also clearly run-down, but it's all a part of this place's quirks. Whatever the manager is going for, it works. I ordered the mumbai sweets (aka samosa in sandwich). It was spicy but tasty. The berry smoothie + plaintain chips were also good. We went on a weekday afternoon for lunch so it wasn't too busy. But, the sandwiches took forever to come out. We waited for about 30 minutes. I thought about actually opening up the backpack I had brought and studying. But sometimes socializing is more important than cramming for school. Ample parking. What a gem. The area is a bit sparse. You may accidentally pass it if you haven't seen the entrance before. Parking is limited and could get muddy. Upon walking in you can tell there's regulars. A few on their laptops. Place is quiet to do work. We were greeted well and we went for their popular Mumbai streets panini. Their pistachio latte is amazing and another must try. First off, Doshi House is NOT closed. Woohoo! Yes they are open for business out of a small trailer in front of the construction mayhem. The trailer has running water for all of us who were concerned about cleanliness. There is only one food item on the menu and it is a good one - TACOS!!!!! Yummy in my tummy! My family owns some real estate not far from here. It's not the greatest of areas when I last visited the piece of property. So when I saw a place near it getting good reviews I got excited! Good businesses means possible rise in real estate value! I drove by and I did street parking. The area is greatly underdeveloped currently so lots of spots to be had. Upon entering the place was packed. I found a small table in the corner to put down my bags and order food and drinks. I had one of the mumbai streets panini, it was very light and had great flavor. It came with an order of banana chips, another great addition. To top off the meal I had a hawaiiano, I thought it was going to be sweeter, but that's on me. They have free wi-fi and outlets throughout. I got some good studying done. The owner is usually there and a very nice guy. Glad this area is starting to develop. Couldn't possibly be a more questionable part of town but it brings the corner of Dowling and Holman to life! Ample parking, nice big patio with an "interestingly" decorated interior. Everything screams "triple cutie"! He makes all his syrups from scratch which is evident in his lattes. Very robust espresso and rich vanilla flavor. Now. The Cha. Traditional Punjabi Tea with milk and sugar. Deepak slips in a little green cardamon in there and livelies it up! All the stories you've read about this place are true. The food is amazing! The neighborhood is definitely on the sketchy side but if you have to brave your life for one of their cupcakes, then so be it. Fyi, the inside is far better than the outside. Dolshi seriously has some of the best vegan food I've tasted in Houston. The Mumbai Panini is good, as well as the soup and deserts. I've always heard amazing things about their expresso drinks and it was confirmed when I heard a women telling her friend that Deepak makes the best. Is this Coca Cola circa 1890 all over again? Are they putting coccaine in all their food to make us go nuts for it? Because if they are, it's working. The last thing I like is how they price their food. Unlike other similar places, this place doesn't make you pay triple the price for organic, vegan food. The prices are no more than you would pay at any other restaurant. I like Green Seed as much as the next person but I'm tired of paying $15-$20 eveytime I go in there. **I took off one star because of the neighborhood and outside decor but besides that, it's A+ with five stars. read more

OMG! This is what came out of my mouth after trying their Cortado. Many people who know me know that I judge a coffee place on their Cortados, and I nearly shed a tear after my first sip. I met Deepak (awesome dude & my NEW bff, lol), and all I could say, after sipping my Cortado and really thinking about it, was that it reminded me of the espresso sold at Revival Market in the Heights. He immediately commended my palate & informed me they use the same espresso; FANTASTIC because Doshi is not even a mile from my loft! This, many people have heard my rant, is THE ultimate espresso experience. I absolutely love the strong, tartness this particular espresso has; it carries over even with milk where other espressos are kinda drowned out. I had a really nice conversation with Deepak also who explained to me what the Karak Chai & Nasta is (which I am dying to try now cuz I love Chai also) and also discussed the Hawaiiano (which has coconut milk) & Mughal Spice (saffron in espresso). I am definitely up for a different coffee experience and plan on trying these out soon. As I had already paid and was waiting for my drinks (I pretty much always order in 2s, one Cortado as what I call a 'prelude to a kiss" (lol) and an iced one for afterwards), I noticed they have a soup of the day; yesterday happened to be Coconut Thai which I immediately thought about Tom Kha Gai soup so I HAD to order this to go also. When I got home, boy was I stupendously surprised at how fantastic and flavor-packed this soup was as well as very hearty and full of veggies. Today is Goan Lentil soup, and I decided I MUST have this (Deepak, be ready for me, lol!) My only problem, which I discussed with Deepak, is I wish they were open on Sundays (which he said they may be soon) and also at 7:00 am so could stop on my way to work. Also, the parking lot is a little scary but won't stop me from coming back again & again. I am SO glad I live very close to the EADOs hidden gem. REALLY confused why this place has such good ratings. The ratings are so good that I feel like I got conned into coming here. I roll into the area and my first thought is, "is this the right address?", it looked quite dilapidated. The day I came was slightly rainy and I ended up parking in a ditch which I believe is their parking lot. When I walked in, I saw this gigantic bucket catching their roof leaks, and then had to switch tables when I noticed the area near me flooding was from a different leak. Someone please just get this place a new roof. The chairs were so raggedly (think broken fake leather, stuffing coming out, what you'd find in your grandmother's attic) that I can only believe that this must be part of their 3rd ward look. I was already here though, so I decided to get a drink and study anyways... maybe the drinks are so good they make up for everything! Wrong. My friend and I got different drinks (a tea and a coffee I think), and both tasted like poorly flavored water because it was so diluted. And then we got kicked out at 5pm even though the online hours say that the places opens until 8pm! (??) I am so confused why people like this place so much. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to try their food because the kitchen closed early as well... but the food must be straight from the heavens if it can make up for the rest of the poor review. read more

By far the best chai tea latte I've had in Houston - and I've had quite a few CTLs (so many that I just abbreviate "chai tea latte" into "CTL" like the totes obnox bish I am). Doshi House is in a less than desirable location for most food-related establishments (not anywhere trendy + just quite far away from me heh), but you know what, I'd come back here on a regular basis for their CTL. It's just a perfect hot blend of spice, sweetness, and creaminess. On my subsequent visit, I ordered the Mumbai Streets panini, which has curried potatoes and peas with onions and cheese, served with banana chips and baby spinach (it's not dressed, so I dunno why they just don't put this in the sandwich). When I was asked to check out The Doshi House, I asked, "What is a doshi?" I soon came to find out. A group of friends and I had met up to have dinner and proceeded to Doshi House after dinner. As we pulled up to the place, I thought I was being punk'd or something. The place, from the outside looked a little scary to me. As we approached the building, I was able to see the inside of the place and how it looked as a unique little coffee shop. When we went inside, we were greeted by no other than Mr. Doshi himself. We began talking and he explained the drinks and answered whatever questions we had. Great customer service and overall good guy. I had ordered two drinks, first was the Affogato, very delicious drink, just make sure to stir the ice cream in. Second drink I ordered was the coconut frappe, it was really good, definitely a different experience to a frappe. Overall, its a good coffee shop with good customer and great drinks. Doshi was a cool little gem in the heart of the Third Ward. A girlfriend and I visited this place on our lunch break for a cup of joe and a Panini. Upon our arrival the place was empty with just the owner Deepak working and the stray puppy deepak had been providing shelter that is now at the home of a wonderful new owner!!! All Doshi items are vegetarian and very healthy. This is very much a "make of it what you will" type place. And I say that because you could utilize this venue for just about anything from a meeting with a donor, a quiet place to study or a private party. Doshi is BYOB but I did see some beer available. I ordered the Mumbai Street Panini and it was great, it comes with plantain chips. I also order a Chai Latte and a Zen smoothie! The walls of this place are adorned with works from local Houston artists that rotate out each month. Some of the pieces were truly beautiful. Very cool..chill..spot. The doors to Doshi will be closed from Sunday (8.5.12) - Sunday (8.12.12) - as they will be preparing for more traffic as school starts. I can't wait to see how it looks once the doors open and they began to rock-n-roll. I see myself being a staple here, especially since it's so close to my job! read more

I visited this place with a friend who loves vegetarian food. It's literally like a house inside. It has a cozy atmosphere and antique things for display. The food is really good. I tried the one with the beans and it filled me up. Price is pretty cheap for its portion, too. They also have a mini bakery which is pretty good. It's not too sweet or plain. I must start off by saying that I have been taking my time to write a review on Doshi House because I hear vegans and vegetarians alike talking about what an awesome place this is while I don't get the hype. Then again, first impressions are everything. My first time here, I guess I came a little too early because lunch was not ready yet. No problem. I asked what the employees here would recommend based on my tastes at the time. They recommended their Masala pocket pies. I had somewhere to go, so I could not wait until lunch and ordered three of these to go. Three came out to around $8. I am not sure they are worth that much, but whatever. The service was okay, I get my order, I pay, and I'm out the door. As I have somewhere to be, I'm driving and eating. This is where it gets ugly for me. As I take the first pocket pie out of the container, there is a very large piece of hair in my food. Not only is it there, but as I pick it off part of it breaks off because it is stuck in the dough. EWWW! Now, I paid a good amount of money for this food, don't have time to go back, and so I break off the part around it and try to enjoy eating the rest. Of course, now I am just thinking about the hair as I am eating the rest of the pies. Geez! I didn't know how much I could be weirded out by a hair in my food until this. My next time here, I came with a friend on a Thursday. I ordered the Artisan Grill and the Coconut Thai Soup. It was all good this time. We had a good time here. The service was alright. I found the menu selections rather limited, but I believe they pride themselves on this. I came back one Saturday and ordered the Creamy Garlic & Mushroom Soup. Not bad at all. Service was alright. That's just the feeling I get about this place; service is alright. They don't do anything out of the ordinary. It's just alright. The food is good, but they don't offer a lot of options. That works here. I can't lie, the hair gave me a bad impression of this place, and I most likely still think little of Doshi House because of it, but every time I have been here I just feel that they are an alright place but nothing special. I just know other vegan places that their customer service is great and they don't have hairs in the food. read more

Owner and staff are highly motivated and down to earth people who serve their patrons very well (don't expect quick service though). The quality of the drinks and food is amazing! Absolutely love their Chai tea (now they make it from scratch on-site)! :D Free WI-FI, clean bathroom, a cool piano surrounded by local art and varying furniture, and good for vegetarians (i'm not one). Great hole in the wall! I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 only because of two things: (1) parking is sparse and (2) order-to-table turn-around time is slow so don't expect to walk in and walk out in a hurry...NOT a Starbucks type of crowd, more of a chill at the coffee house with no time obligations type crowd. Doshi house epitomizes effortless cool. It does not try to be anything it doesn't want to be. Gone with the overused aesthetic of hipsterism gone mainstream, doshi house is a breath of fresh air with its quirky charm, mismatched furniture, untraditional art, and its boycott of meat products through its vegan/vegetarian cuisine. Not exactly the most cozy, but definitely a very welcomed change of pace from the typical coffee shop. I ordered the hawaiiano and a vegan empanada. The hawaiiano had a tropical coconut flavor dressed up in caffeinated flare. It finished with a slightly tangy aftertaste that I couldn't really definitively label as something i loved or hated... it was just simply a far departure from your typical vanilla latte. The empanada was heavenly though. I definitely can label it with "loved it" as it was warm, flaky, and plump with ingredients. Went on a whim with my orders here, and left doshi house preeeetty satisfied with my somewhat adventurous experience. HOWEVER, my only setback is the location and parking situation. This place looks shady and run down. But don't let the appearance fool you! The menu looks amazing. This is the first time in a long time where I've wanted to try EVERYTHING. And the fact that it's a vegetarian is nice too. I tried the mumbai streets and tuscan red panini. I really enjoyed both paninis. Very flavorful. I also got the affogato which was espresso with ice cream. It was good. Nice antique vibe. I love Indian food and once I walk in, I can smell the smell of curry mmmm. But I came for coffee this time. I wanted something coconutty so I ordered the Hawaiiano iced. (Coconut frappé is no longer available). It was pretty good. I usually like hot than cold so I wasn't too excited but the coconut milk taste was smooth and pretty good. Not as good as catalina in my opinion but again, I tried iced. I will definitely come again to try some of their soup and hot cup of latte. Good wife signal and I didn't even have to search for wifi. Other lunch options include vegetarian panini (which can be veganized). Each night they serve a different vegan dinner dish starting at 5 PM. I've heard the Vegan Not So Butter Chicken is the best dish, but I can personally recommend Monday night's Creole red beans and rice. At $6.95, their dinners are a really good deal! I have been wanting to try this place for years and I've FINALLY made it there! I hear Doshi House Cafe is a good place to take your vegetarian/vegan friends so I was instantly intrigued. I visited Doshi during the middle of a work day. Parking wasn't a problem for me but I could see it being a problem if I came during a more popular time. The outside of the cafe could use some work but the inside was pretty cute. It reminded me of a small coffee house in Seattle. I wouldn't call it "hipster" but more so quirky. I just needed a "pick-me-up" so I ordered a cappuccino and a vegan cupcake. The cappuccino was delicious! And the cupcake? Well after a quick bite to satisfy my sweet tooth, I boxed it back up and put it in the fridge for later. The hubs came home and polished it off without even suspecting it was vegan!!
