Hard pass. Walked into the store and was hastily greeted and they didn't have the daily flavors in stock, only the cupcakes sitting uncovered at the front. I picked the raspberry lemon cupcake, for them to give me the obviously cracked cupcake. When I bit into it, it was dense and hard, almost like a muffin. It tasted worse than a muffin, actually. The lemon was too sour and the raspberry flavor was barely there. I would not recommend anyone who wants to compare these cupcakes to Sprinkles.

First time visiting this place after shopping at Whole Foods. Grabbed a few mini cupcakes they were so cute and bite sized! The service was good cute little shop will come Back

The Chocolate Mint cupcake at Dots is a winner. The cake is rich and moist, and I loved that the frosting isn't overly sweet. The frosting is refreshing and light, which is exactly how I like it. My only critique is the size. It's a bit small for a "regular" cupcake, but the high-quality taste makes up for it. Highly recommended if you want a treat that focuses on flavor rather than just sugar.

Oh how disappointing! After a large meal, close by, this cute little shop caught our eye. We love a good cupcake, so we bought a 6 pack variety of mini's to take home. The young man helping us was very bored, and though he answered our questions, he didn't care if we bought something or not. We shouldn't have. When we got home I tasted the peanut butter chocolate one. No taste. No peanut butter and minimal chocolate. My daughter tasted the strawberry cupcake and it had no flavor either!!! Were we punked? We live 2 hours away, so no recourse.

Delicious cupcakes that come in mini or regular size. There are lots of different flavors that are all great. The interior is beautifully designed and clean. The owner is super friendly and sweet, came in close to closing and the owner gave me some extra cupcakes for free. Great place for a little treat or celebration.

I am extremely shocked that people have given this cupcake shop 4 1/2 stars. These cupcakes are by far the worse cupcakes I have ever tasted. I hate to be a negative Nancy because I love desserts and always love to give little shops their dues but unfortunately not this place. I had to run into the ups store next door so decided to stop in this cute little cupcake shop and bring home dessert. I bought 6 "Regular" sized cupcakes for $28! $28 for 6 ACTUAL little tiny cupcakes. They look like minis but are not. It seems like they were trying to make them super moist but all that moisture made the cupcake attach itself to the wrapper. Truly took away half the cupcake. (See photos) also because of this forced "moistness" it made the cupcake very dense. The icing is your typical sugary icing (not my fav) but understand most people like it. Save yourself the $28 and buy your cupcakes from Ralph's bakery. So much better tasting, bigger and cheaper unfortunately. I am giving this place two stars rather than one because of the very sweet young girl at the counter that was helpful and kind.

They have a lot of variety for their full size or mini cupcakes. The icing was great, but the cake itself was lacking some flavor. Perhaps the idea is to create a neutral base so the whole cupcake is not too sweet. The employees were friendly. Parking is tight, with few spaces with the amount of restaurants and Whole Foods in the shopping center.

I was so excited to try this place as every time I try going they are always sold out but I was very disappointed :( i got the marble and strawberry shortcake. When I cut into it, I can tell the cupcake was not fresh and seemed as if it was stale. The cupcakes themselves were just okay. Uber sweet and the strawberry shortcake one seemed to not be fully baked. $10 for 2 cupcakes is hefty especially for the quality unfortunately

We finally spotted Dots Cupcakes yesterday as we drove around this plaza looking for parking, and we are so glad we did! My husband was a wicked sweet tooth and after we ordered some food across the lot, he was being pulled by the siren song of the illuminated Dots Cupcakes sign from across the way. We made our way over and the lovely manager Iva was kind enough to stay late to make sure we got our cupcakes! She was so warm and gracious and helped us pick out the perfect assortment of tasty cakes, I seriously think we got one of each flavor they had left! Every single flavor we sampled was delicious, moist, and packed with flavor. And not overly sweet, which is the best compliment I can give ;) We can't wait to come back and see Iva and hopefully sample some coffee next time and whatever other new flavors they roll out (they have new flavors all the time!) Thanks so much Iva and Dots! We will be back soon.

This is the cutest little cupcake place in Irvine! I would get some but nothing is gluten-free yet. They're working on a gluten-free formula I was going to lick the topping off of the coconut cupcakes after lunch at Puesto

    I was here at 6:46pm

My favorite cupcake place but hours are inconsistent. Adding a review because it's not the first time and I just drove 20 mins to come here.

Walking into Dots Cupcakes, you immediately know this team understands the fundamentals of great customer service. They greet you at the door, walk you through the flavor profiles with genuine enthusiasm, and let the product do the talking. No fluff, just execution. And the execution? Flawless. The chocolate cupcakes are made with what I'm 99% certain is Valrhona cocoa powder, one of the most premium (and expensive) options in the pastry world. You can taste the difference. The depth, the richness, the lack of that bitter aftertaste you get from lesser cocoa powders? That's what investing in quality ingredients looks like. But here's the real winner: the red velvet. I've had Sprinkles. I've had the "best" cupcakes in multiple cities. Dots' red velvet is better. Period. The texture, the balance of cocoa and buttermilk, the cream cheese frosting that doesn't overpower, it's what red velvet should be. The star of the show is, as it should be, the cupcakes themselves. Everything else, the quick service, the warm greeting, the flavor explanations, supports that main event without getting in the way. I'll absolutely order from them again. When you find a team that understands both craft and customer experience, you support them. Recommendation: Start with the red velvet. Thank me later.

I ordered 3 mini cupcakes to satisfy my sweet tooth craving. I got 2 strawberry shortcake and the chocolate coconut. Omg! So moist and delicious! I could've easily ordered more since I ate it in store but also watching my sugar intake. These cupcakes were a little piece of heaven in your mouth I would definitely come back whenever I'm in the area. Plenty of parking, minimal seating inside, but friendly and welcoming staff. Oh btw, they even have doggie cupcakes, so I bought one for mine and he loved it!

Long story short, I realized the cake had actually been ordered at the Newport location instead of Costa Mesa. Dennis was helping me, and he was absolutely wonderful. He was so kind, patient, and accommodating. He went above and beyond by providing me with the same cake and even offered to call the Newport location to explain the situation. I've worked in customer service for over 25 years, and unfortunately, exceptional customer service like this can be hard to find these days. Dennis truly went above and beyond, and I was incredibly grateful for his kindness and willingness to help--especially on a busy Saturday. A huge thank you to Dennis and the entire staff for making what could have been a stressful situation so easy and pleasant. Your kindness and customer service did not go unnoticed! I will definitely continue coming here and purchasing all of my cakes from you. Thank you again, Dennis, and the entire team, for such a wonderful experience!

He was so excited seeing the cake designs on Spiderman and Minions. We enjoyed our desserts inside. They only had 1 high top table with 2 high top chairs. I would say service was ok. I just didn't feel greeted with the most excitement by staff. Staff didn't care to know if we enjoyed our dessert, offer stickers to my kid at all. For a single parent with their young toddler, I think its important to make sure all customers enjoyed the dessert and the children have a good experience so that they always remember this place to request us coming back again. Thats just my advice when it comes to customer service for adults and kids. Though, I will try my best to be back for the raspberry vanilla cupcake, bc that did taste really good when I ate it elsewhere. Please keep this seasonal dessert permanently on the menu.

The old adage "You can't judge a book by its cover," is true here. This place looks forgotten, ignored, unassuming, but produces the finest bakery items in Orange County. You enter and have to immediately get into a line. Inside, it is like a aged cafeteria of your childhood. You have to wait for a young lady who can't even look over the top of the counter because there is so much stuff piled high. She stands on tip toes to see you and you have to shout at her and point what you want. The problem is when she sees you, you are near the cash register, so you must say excuse me and walk in front of a line of people to point and shout out what you want. It is so poorly designed and complicated to order. We all endure because like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, the product is worth it. They sell the world's best Olive bread, scones, and strawberry crossants. If you survive the line, you make it to the cash register, pay, get a bag and leave. There is no where to sit. There is no internet. They shuffle you through and on to the next one. The pastry items are incredible and worth the trouble.

When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!
