I am back at SusieCakes, Costa Mesa during Mother's Day weekend 2026. Their cakes and staff did not disappoint! They were busy with a lot of Mother's Day weekend rush, but the staff was friendly to everyone with big smiles and they were moving the line along as quickly as possible. I picked up my usual favorite slices: Carrot Cake Slice ($8.49), Tropical Coconut Slice ($8.99), and Old-Fashioned Chocolate Slice ($8.99). They were moist and delicious! Sometimes, the Tropical Coconut can be slightly dry, but it was perfectly moist when I had it this past weekend. They had a really cute May 4th Grogu cake on display and I just think that they not only make delicious cakes, but their cake decorating skills are on point! I picked up a gender reveal cake and received a level of attitude that none of your customers should experience on Mother's Day. After waiting for someone to help me, I walk up to the counter and ask if it was possible to pick up a cake that I ordered. The result was the male sales representative with a beard rolling their eyes and yelling at me - what's the last name! I'm positive Mothers Day is a very busy day for you all, but no one should be on the receiving end of that type of sass from anyone, especially after paying close to $100 for a 6" inch cake. It definitely killed the excitement for the gender reveal with this cake tainted with attitude. read more

Heard so many good things about this place and was able to try a cupcake at one of my friend's birthday party! I was hooked! I kept hearing about this place also from TikTok and knew I had to come in and try it! We got the 8 cupcakes variety and wow. They were so moist and the frosting isn't overly sweet! We took a bite and then left it overnight and the next day it was still yummy!! Really enjoyed their chocolate and mocha cupcake. The peanut butter was a surprise and yummy. Enjoyed the lemon but wish it was a bit more lemony but still yummy. I was even surprised with their coconut! Wasn't overly coconutty! The shredded coconut was a nice touch. I came to pick up an Uber Eats order, but instead of receiving it promptly, I had to wait an excessive amount of time while the staff continued serving walk-in customers, even though the Uber Eats app clearly states that couriers can skip the line for order pickups. The situation became even worse when I found out that several items in the customer's order were out of stock. The restaurant never contacted the customer to inform them that items were unavailable or to discuss possible substitutions before I arrived. Instead, I was forced to wait even longer until the staff had time to assist me. They then expected me, the delivery driver, to call the customer using my own phone and explain which items were unavailable and what could be substituted. This is not the responsibility of a delivery driver, especially since I am not familiar with the restaurant's full menu or available replacement options. As a result, I wasted a significant amount of time waiting for the staff, making calls that the restaurant should have made, and delaying the customer's delivery. This place is so cute! They sell cakes, cupcakes, and mini cupcakes as well. Prices were not listed so I had to ask the person at the register. Its a small place but efficient and clean. One staff managing the register and orders and someone else in the back making the menu items. I chose two cupcakes that were a little under $6 for each. I got the red velvet and the lemon. The lemon cupcake was really good but the red velvet cupcake frosting hasn't completely set. After I refrigerated it, it was fine though. I am just still soo happy to celebrate my birthday with Susie Cakes today (2/26) with Heidi who helped offer choices on slices of cake to redeem my birthday reward. There was a limited edition cupcake, but I was unable to get that one bc it the frosting contained whiskey, and I am 27 weeks pregnant so didn't want to risk it. I stopped by this weekend to get banana pudding since they were going to have it for a couple of days. There was so many good options and will be coming back later to get a slice of coconut cake. Lemon- The cake base is nice and rich. The frosting has a thick cream cheese base that is lemony and sweet. It also has touches of citrus tanginess. Strawberry- I love strawberry desserts and this did not disappoint! You can really taste the fruit in the frosting and it was a lovely flavor profile. I ate the lemon cupcake with this and turned into a strawberry lemonade cupcake! Chocolate- This had a deep chocolate flavor in both the cake and frosting. You get fun sprinkles to add some texture. Coconut- If you're looking for something mild, this is the way to go. The cake base has a nice vanilla flavor. The frosting gets the coconut and is really creamy. Tooped with frosted coconut flakes. I just wanted to write a review about how they are scamming people at this location. I've been involved and have had the two good to go app for some time now. I've always picked up a bag and got two boxes usually would also get a cookie. One box would have six mini cupcakes and the other box would have either four regular size cupcakes or a slice of cake. Just recently the past two times that I've got the orders they've only given one box with four cupcakes. They've also raised the price from $6.99 to $10.99. So not only are they giving you less cupcakes? They have also raised the price. I have not experienced this at any other Susie cakes. Not sure what to think. I was in the area and happened to see Susie's Cake. I was excited to try some of their desserts. The service was really friendly and it's a cute bakery inside. I'm docking off stars because the cupcakes are really way too sweet. The worker recommended the chocolate since it would be bitter to balance out the sweetness. It was still very very sweet. I'm normally a strawberry cupcake type of gal, so I wanted to give that a try. The cream was too thick and sweet-- and I don't think this cupcake had any strawberry flavor at all. Like another review said, it tasted quite chalky. The cupcake was almost like a cornbread consistency. I also tried the chocolate chip cookie. At least this one was thin, soft and chewy. This was my first time at Susie Cakes - I had heard about it but I didn't realize how close it was to my office. I was in a pinch and needed some cake for a little get-together for my son's 'early' birthday celebration, but I definitely didn't want grocery store cake. I'm actually a baker, so the bar is set high for my family when it comes to cake - they are used to having fresh baked cakes that aren't dry or that have been in the freezer for who knows how long. But since this little celebration was pulled together kinda at the last minute, and it was during the week, I really didn't have any time to bake. Thank goodness SusieCakes popped up on my Yelp search! I picked up a few slices - carrot, marble and celebration vanilla - which were perfect for 5 people. We actually had some leftover. Everyone really enjoyed them - they weren't dry, you could tell tbey were fresh baked, and they tasted really good. The only one that someone commented on was the vanilla celebration cake - that it was too sweet. But I have to admit that this is a great option for me when I'm in a pinch. It's hard to find bakeries that I'm ok with buying cake at when I'm not able to bake myself. We're actually having another get-together tonight, so I'm going back after work to pick up some treats we can have for dessert. Just a note - they have an app which you can earn points towards I'm not really sure what - but if you like earning points with your purchases, be sure to load the app and create a profile before going there - their wi-fi is REALLY slow so it'll take you forever if you do it there - that's what happened to me. My wife and I discovered Susie Cakes by accident and we're glad we did! We just had dinner nearby and decided to take a look in the store. All the cakes looked amazing and we decided on a slice of lemon cake. The cake was great! It had Madagascar vanilla cake with fresh lemon curd and frosted vanilla buttercream. Moist, rich, indulgent ---- just a really good slice of cake. The store itself is very nice: simple and stylish in decor and completely focused on the colorful cakes and cupcakes. What I love most about this location is that even though they may not know me by name, I know they recognize me and always give me the best greetings. Not for me. Truth be told, I am not a cake guy. I am into pies. The exceptions are bundt cakes or carrot cakes (without raisins). Someone at work brought a FUNFETTI white vanilla celebration cake in for a birthday. I think I had seen the name on a grocery store cake box mix but never had any interest. The idea of mini sugar discs mounted onto a semi-moist or dry cake with frosting that might be a sugar bomb never appealed to me. So many grocery store cakes have super sweet frosting where flavor is absent and all you taste is table sugar. Since this came from a bakery I crossed my fingers. Although, I have found other items at SusieCakes far too sweet. This cake was no exception. It was dense and somewhat moist but not overly so. The vanilla was pretty up front. The FROSTING was a full-on sugar bomb where the sugar was relentless. I am not sure how I picked up the vanilla with the sugar stealing the show. If you love sugar, by all means "sniff in". They also have tasty cupcakes, including gluten-free chocolate cupcakes. On this occasion we enjoyed the Old Fashioned 6 Layer Chocolate Cake. It is so tall! And is my recommended go to for that chocolate lover's birthday. So good, and tastes even better with milk or coffee. Their Berry Cake in the summer is wonderful, and the Carrot Cake is amazing. The incredible frosting makes it taste so good and the cakes are always moist and perfectly made. It was my husbands birthday and I got slices of carrot cake, German chocolate cake and coconut cake. The cake was very dense and wasn't as fluffy. The banana cupcake was also very dense too sweet. The chipset chip cookie was by the far the best. Each slice of cake was about $8. I probably wouldn't return back just because the cake was too sweet and too dense. I absolutely love SusieCakes. Their cakes and frosting are fresh and delicious. But what I love more than anything and wait all year for are their seasonal Pecan pie. The crust is crispy and the pecans are toasted to perfection. It is my yearly go-to to kick off the holidays. My kids enjoy picking out a cupcake from their cupcake selections.
