Double Barrel is a great spot to catch drinks after work. They have a massive selection of drinks on tap. I order up at the bar and the pours are turned over fast. Been coming here over the years. The positive is that the food and beer is good. I like the layout and tiny gaming area. They'd knock it out of the park except for one thing. This year, when we've gone, there is literally ONE person tending bar AND cleaning tables (With the exception of one other time there was briefly 2 - or the cook came out of the back to help). So, Last night (a Saturday). was the last time and we won't go back. One person again. A huge line at the bar (& if she's stuck making a cocktail- it's painful for everyone waiting). We walked in and the place was less than half full, 10 people standing in line (THEY DONT have waitstaff - you gotta go up to the bar and order - then you still tip?). There were 4 empty tables stacked with dishes and dirty. So we waited for a few to watch what was going to happen then we left and went down to the 99 Saloon. Sorry Double, you're done. I guess we're at a place in time where you can't attract enough folks to work there & if that can't be fixed - then it's only downhill from there. I stop here each time I swing through Vancouver and normally rate it 5 stars. Though owners kind and personable. The staff do a good job. The food is great , though portions look smaller than last time. but the reason for 4 and not 5? The travesty of what the bartender called an old fashioned. Definitely whiskey forward. Highly recommend DBT! Was visiting family friends in the area and glad we stopped by here. Atmosphere was great, food was delicious! I had the chicken strips and French fries, I liked that they cooked them nice and crispy! Waitress was attentive and we really enjoyed the variety of food options here. Stopped in on a whim, we found a coupon for all day Happy Hour in the WA Payback Book so we decided to grab lunch and a drink. The service was great! We showed up around 1, ordered at the bar, and sat outside on the warm, sunshine filled patio. Our drinks were strangely delicious (vanilla vodka, strawberry puree, lemonade, and soda water), it reminded me of a smoothie because it had a creamy taste, for some reason. I believe they were called Light Rails? Idk, anyway, try it. It's really good. We also ordered loaded tots (nicely topped with all the good things that belong on tots), a chili dog, and a grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was actually very good! The bartender forgot to order the chili dog when she ordered the rest of the food, so she apologized and comp'ed us a round of Hefeweizens. Super cool, I really appreciated her doing that. Taco Tuesday was a good deal. $3 per small soft taco. We sampled four beers and found an Ale that was similar to drinking Hefeweizen. One bartender was handling about 20 people. It was one of our last sunny days and 70 degrees. We sat outside in their covered area. Cars passing on 99 are the only thing you hear. They could play music in the back to liven up the atmosphere. Decided to come here since I heard it was not a bad place. We sat towards the front of the place and the place had a few people there who were well into their evening of beers and whiskey. They were really loud but just having a good time. I got an IPA and she got a red wine. The drinks came out pretty fast considering there was only one waitress/bartender in the place besides the cook. She got the pulled pork hotdog with coleslaw and I got the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with onion rings. She loved her coleslaw as it had kind of a sweet pickle flavor and she really liked her hotdog. The pulled pork was delicious too. My cheesesteak sandwich was just ok and the onion rings were not too bad. We had to ask for more water and it took few minutes for her to come get my credit card to pay. Overall it's not a bad place. It's always sad when a place that you have supported pre and post pandemic changes, not for the better. One of the draws for me and my spouse is a friendly bartender who takes the time to get to know you and makes it feel like home. When you drop around $100 a week at the business it means you are invested in the welfare of the business. Sadly, we have not been back to this bar other than random visits in the last 3 months. It is definitely a sports bar. When you go in and the bartender helps you and then becomes enticed to visit with friends or is on their phone and you feel ignored it is not good. We know drive out of our way to another bar that has a more friendly atmosphere and spend our $$ there. read more

In addition to a full bar, the 30 rotating taps offer beer drinkers the IPAs, ales, stouts, lagers, pilsners, and ciders you and I like. The local crowd was into the sports and MMA on the TVs while I focused on my beers. Double Barrel Taphouse seems to take a shotgun approach to serving everyone as a neighborhood pub, sports bar, restaurant, and tap room. Besides beer, I like food. I really really really like food, but I wasn't really impressed with the pub grub at Double Barrel. A Memphis Hot Dog with Bacon and BBQ sounded like meaty wow. It wasn't. Outrageous prices on food and tap beers! 17 bucks for a shot of tequila? I understand it's a bar and they have to make a profit but all been said you can buy a bottle of tequila for $45 and you can get 12 2oz shots which is the size of their shots. $8 bucks for a beer? $15+ for a burger, 15 for 6 wings? We have come here to watch a couple games, most recently the Super Bowl. Great spot with plenty of TVs! They always have a great selection of local beers. The chicken wings we got for the big game were massive, we were so full from them. They weren't amazing taste-wise and wish they were crispier, but were definitely a good deal. It was a Thursday night. Not very many people. Maybe four separate couples. A mixed crowd. Plenty of room. Older and younger folks. Pool table. Beers were written on a chalkboard behind the bar. Decor was very pleasing to the eye. Menu was easy to read. Waiter was a nice gal. I had gotten the pulled pork sandwich with a side salad. A shot of Jim Beam and an Boneyard IPA. The keg blew, so she only charged me half. The pulled pork sandwich was really good, but it was smaller than I thought it would be. Along with my salad. My bf and I agreed we might need to eat more later. He had the pulled pork hotdog and chips, but also eats a lot more than I do. All and all, I'd come here again. The food was good. The space was nice. But the portions are smaller (probably normal person size) and I wont be leaving with leftovers. read more

We decided to try a new to us place on the other side of town from where we usually go, partly because it was still happy hour and we figured that's a cheaper way to test out something new. Location, ambiance, decor, and the fact that it was busy all offered hope that it would be a good experience, although it did eventually get too loud to hold a conversation due to a larger group of people nearby. That's partly due to acoustics, and not really the fault of the bar itself. My husband ordered at the bar and said the ladies were relatively nice. I had the bartender's cocktail special, which ended up being a tequila-heavy Ruby Paloma, for $7, and he got a beer that was very good. We ordered from the happy hour menu--a pretzel with beer cheese and Freedom Fries (French fries with cheese), each $6 (usually $10 for the pretzel and $7.50 for the fries) and then ten minutes later, saw that it was Taco Tuesday, so we added two street tacos with beef on flour tortillas, for $2.50 a piece. The pretzel and fries were decent in flavor, but not worth $6 for the portion size (the pretzel was about the size of a bread plate and the fries equaled about a cup or so). The tacos came out and at first looked very full, with sour cream drizzled on top of some green onion. But when we bit into them, we found the beef was really just chili. Who puts chili in street tacos? They weren't worth $2.50 each. My husband paid and as we were walking out, exclaimed, 'I can't believe that was $36 plus the tip!' I stopped, pulled out my calculator, and realized we had been over charged somehow. My number one pet peeve is when a restaurant charges the wrong price. I used to bartend and know that it's not that hard to pay attention and make sure you're not ripping off your patrons, and it breaks trust when you overcharge the customer. I also know it's a pain in the butt to have to go through the process of a refund for both the restaurant and the patron. My husband went back in and came out, saying they charged us regular price for the pretzel and so they gave him a $5 gift card. I looked again at the receipt and told him they overcharged for the fries also. So he went back in, and came out with a $10 gift card (which was more than what they owed us). I left frustrated that I was now forced to go back to a place I didn't trust and that had overpriced food that wasn't super good, just to get my money back. Initially when leaving, we had decided it was 3/5 stars. After the money mishap, I give it 2/5 stars all around. I'm willing to try it again, only because we have to to recoup our money. When there's so many great places around to try, the food really has to be worth what is paid AND we should pay what the actual price is. But I highly recommend double checking your receipt. My husband isn't as particular about that as I am and he wouldn't have even caught it, and I'm sure that's true for a lot of people. I hope when we try it again, our experience is different and I can update my review. read more

The beer selection was respectable and the server was courteous and prompt. My father and I both ordered the Reuben and when they came out they were over peppered to a near practical joke level. We were both pretty beat up and tiered from the day and hungry enough that we didn't want to wait for more food so we just powered through. But really we should have sent them back and would have had we not been absolutely ravenously hungry. Now I like spicy food and actually grow exotic peppers so it's not that I can't handle some spice. But thing is it didn't appear an intentional flavor note as much as the damn lid fell off the black pepper when they went to add it or what not and it got 5x the intended dose. Might try the food again some time since we'll likely be back for beers anyway as there was to issue with those. read more

The Taphouse is an awesome little place; although they are expanding next door. We celebrated a birthday there and we've been there occasionally to have some drinks and play pool.
