I have eaten all of the BBQ Milwaukee has to offer frills to no frills and this is top notch! My husband and I ordered the bacon ball appetizer- worth it, delicious! We both got the combo plates, such a value! I got the St. Louis style ribs, he got baby back. I know it preference but mine had such better caramelization on the outside, and less fat. I got the burnt ends as one of my meat selections it was a special for the night- GET THEM IF YOU CAN!!! Holy amazing! The brisket was also perfection! Corn bread, delicious. I don't even really like baked beans- they had a smokey flavor best I've had. The Texas and Carolina sauce out shined the Kansas and Picante. The coleslaw and macaroni and cheese were also good but because the greatness of the rest of the food I think they just didn't stand up to the rest. Our server Teagen was attentive and knowledgeable on all of the food. The owner came over to ask about our experience and shook our hand before we left. Overall amazing food, service and experience. Couldn't tell if it was a restaurant/bar or not with a small sign. I saw it from across the street. Great to know it had real BBQ with the smoker out back. I had the Brisket plate with beans and fries. Great baked beans, fries were good too and the brisket was fabulous. Went back and had the "burnt ends" sandwich which comes with sauce which was OK. I am not big into sauce as I like to taste the meat. $2 Micros till 5 and they do run 2 for 1 specials after 5 on food. I am in West Allis once a week and I will eat there once a week. read more

My Wife and I have come in on numerous occasions usually for dinner and the food a service is pretty spot on. On this particular visit. Friday 5/11, we came in for lunch, we realized quickly that may have been a mistake. It was a fairly busy lunch, we grabbed a seat as our server told us to sit where we'd like. We ordered drinks pretty quickly, however this is when things started to unravel. The server also went to a couple other tables to get drink/food orders. She then proceeded to go get the drinks and serve them, but to the tables seated after us. About 2 minutes after she served the other tables she looked at us and must have remembered then to go get our drinks. She came back fairly quickly with the drinks and said she'd be right back to take our order. At this time she went to the 2 tables that arrived after us and took their orders before coming to take ours. Our food, naturally, came out after the other tables as we ordered after them, though we were there about 5-8 minutes before the other tables. we required refills twice, once we went up to the bar, the other time the bartender grabbed us refills as she was checking on her table next to us. Food was good, Baby Back ribs tasted hot and fresh and the coleslaw was especially cold and crisp absolutely delicious. We understand this is a small restaurant of about 12 tables but it just felt understaffed or someone didn't show up as our waitress was the primary person on the floor and just seemed frazzled. As mentioned earlier we usually stop in for dinner, where there are 2, sometimes 3 servers taking care of their tables, as well as the other's tables like a team. Our recommendation is to definitely stop in but maybe wait for dinner. If we do stop in for lunch again we will update this review accordingly. read more

I Love this place. Food has been perfect most times. A little disappointed with the fish fry not crispy enough and greasy doughyish, Other friends of mine, said it was wonderful, so maybe it was just a thing that happened that evening. Wow! Really good BBQ and fair prices. I had the brisket sandwich and mashed potatoes; my boyfriend had the Double B burger with brisket and fries. I've been to Double B's NUMEROUS times. I love bbq. Not every BBQ joint has a smoker. F****s D***s, no smoker. If you ever sit out on the patio, its right there. You can smell it as soon as you get out of your car. Food is amazing, serving size is more then enough. Sides could be bigger. Still, enough for what you pay. Which is more then fair. IMHO. The wings are AMAZING. I hate sauce. I believe good bbq. Good smoked meat does not need sauce. Thats my opinion. I'm not a wing fan, love Double B's wings. I've turned many of my friends on to Double B's. And at 53 years old. This is the ONLY restaurant I've ever gone to alone. Service is always top notch. I've only had one mistake on my order, and it was beautiful!!! Somehow they brought me and my wife(we shared an entree) burnt ends instead of brisket. Burnt ends are now my favorite thing on the menu. AND they did bring us an order of brisket to correct the order. First time we went the owner came to our table to make sure everything was alright. very friendly man. knows his food, and bbq. I've been to bbq joints in Memphis. Double B's is my favorite go to place. Every review should have SOME negative.... Its a small place and fills up a lot of times. Can feel very cramped . Perhaps a second location????? I am in town for the weekend and was recommend to go here! It's a cute little place but we were most impressed with our waitress. Caitlyn was phenomenal. I really liked this place! We sat at the bar and had very good service and food. Their staff makes some very fun mixed drinks, too. I'm a vegetarian, but I did try the chicken and it was wonderful - smoky, but flavorful. My partner loved the brisket and ribs (I did not try them). Double B's barbecue is a great choice, all around, for barbecue. Great food & service. Fun atmosphere. The wife had pulled pork, I had a half rack of spare ribs. Dinners come with sides.The ribs had a corn muffin, cole slaw and I got a side of fries. My wife got a side of sweet potato fries. All was good-to-excellent. Very reasonable prices. Caution: be aware that the portions are ample. The waitress diplomatically noted that a full rack would be a big pile of meat so I went for half rack. Good call, I still was plenty full. On top of that, we shared a bread pudding desert between the two of us. Again, good call or we would have been taking some home in a box. I'm already recommending Double B's to friends. My family and I met some friends and their two teenage girls for dinner. The food was amazing!!! Three people had the pulled pork, very tender and flavorful, two people had the brisket, the best I've ever tasted, I had the St. Louis style ribs, fantastic, and our two little boys had the kids meals. Everything tasted wonderful. Our friends are from out of town and they weren't sure what kind of place I had chosen but they were all very happy. We will be going back. Give it a try. Went for lunch and ordered the burnt ends platter with Mac and cheese and the Double B's burger with brisket. We waited 30 minutes for our food to come out and did not see our waitress once in this span of time. We did however, see the table next to us order and get their food during that same 30 minutes. When we asked the other server about our food, he said he would check on it and about a minute later our food showed up with the explanation that burgers take longer to cook when they are ordered well done. I normally would accept this but the rest of our food was just warm, so I have to assume either their timing is way off when making a table's food, or it was sitting there for a while before it came out to us. I can't believe that a burger would take 30 minutes to cook. The food, besides being luke warm, was tasty and I would probably be making this a routine stop if we hadn't had such mediocre service. read more

I came in for lunch today with a coworker, based on reviews, expecting a quick delicious lunch. We came through a plastic curtain to enter the patio. We sat down right away, I acknowledge that this was my mistake for not checking in with a host or employee. We came in and let a guy know after a few minutes. At this time there was one other table on the patio, the guy we spoke to inside, was serving them, he seemed to know them as he was discussing something about their friend's band that will be playing on the patio, which sounded interesting. A couple of minutes later our waitress arrived and we ordered our drinks and food. Just after this another family sat on the patio by our waitress. They ordered drinks a few minutes later, by the time we saw their drinks come out 15-20 minutes had gone by and we were already eating. The food was pretty good, fresh but the service seemed a little slow. I'm not sure if our waitress was drinking on the job or before her shift, but the smell was prevalent when she was speaking to us. After we got our bill we waited a few minutes and then took it up to the guy at the bar, as we had to get back to work, he took it and said that he couldn't take the payment but would give it to our waitress, which he did. Overall good food, but lackadaisical service, at least for a business lunch hour. May try again for dinner and will update then. read more

Absolutely wonderful. Brisket was better than big name bbq restaurants all over the country. Brisket platter $16.00. Excellent taste. Had 4 different bbq sauces that tasted great but no need to mask the taste of the brisket right out of the smoker. Came with really good coleslaw, a small muffin of cornbread topped with butter which was perfect and a choice of sides. I picked mac n cheese but was salivating for the vegi choice of the evening, brussel sprouts. Also ordered a 1/2 lb burger with cheddar cheese, grilled onions , sauce ,and more BRISKET and a side!! It was the best burger we have ever had. Dessert: 3 choices. Chess pie...you'll have to ask them what it is but it sounded wonderful. Bread pudding with a bourbon sauce or a pecan pie with house smoked pecans and some whipped creme. We chose the pecan pie. The sweetness of the pie was tempered by the in house toasted pecans. Great decision. I don't think any choice would have been wrong. Can't wait to go back for the the bread pudding at $5 each read more

Terrible. We ordered carry out which consisted of brisket, an Angus burger,smoked chicken and a kids chicken tender meal. First off all of the brisket was fatty to the point it was barley chewable. I chose the Mac n cheese as my side which was actually pretty awesome. It comes with coleslaw and a sweet cornbread muffin. The muffin was good while the coleslaw was dry and had no flavor. The chicken tender meal came with two chicken tenders, applesauce,fries and cookies which all was approved by my child. The only problem with that was we were supposed to have two kids chicken tender meals and only received one. The burgers were okay nothing special that you couldn't get anywhere really. Now the smoked chicken...also came with a side(mac n cheese), cornbread muffin and coleslaw. You receive half a Chicken. While pulling the pieces apart there was pink meat along with blood. When I called the restaurant they proceeded to tell me smoked chicken can be pink. Okay....but not bloody! They asked me to bring the chicken back in. When I arrived they had a printed paper stating things about smoked chicken. I know the difference between pink and bloody as I took a white paper towel and pressed it on the chicken and it turned red...hmmm pretty self explanatory. Anyways the greeter was very nice about handling my complaint while the cook is the one who found the time to print something off in his favor from the internet which we all know we can find anything on the internet. The manager attempted to offer me other things on the menu which I don't eat pork so my choice was limited . I already knew the brisket was sub par so I didn't want that and the burger was nothing special so I told them there was nothing on the menu Id eat and for the price you pay its even worse. So what does the manager do...gives me a gift certificate to come back and eat after I stated there was nothing there I'd eat. Overall this place is nothing special...lets just say dickies BBQ has better meat and that's not saying much. Customer service needs some work as well. Ill never order from here again even though I have a gift certificate. Your money would be best spent somewhere else. read more
