We were looking for somewhere fun and different to go for New Years. We ended up choosing to come here based on the live entertainment . This bar is really different from the usual type of place we would go, but we loved it! It is super laid back. The decorations are fun and the staff was really friendly. They had a DJ, a singer, a drag show, and a pole dancer. The Easy Slider food truck was there serving burgers, and they had a free photo booth trailer with lots of props. They also had a midnight toast and hats and whistles. They have fun drinks that are a twist on some of your childhood favorites, and everything was pretty affordable. We had a great time, and it was a fun way to ring in the new year! read more

Came on a Friday night and it wasn't busy at all. I think it's that the location is at the end of Commerce that sets it apart from the rest of the barhopping scene closer to the heart of deep ellum. I love me some double wide! From the trailer-chic decor, to their Tang drinks. The place is located in an awkward spot, pretty close from Fair Park. The parking is limited and the inside space is limited as well. This place is perfect for sitting in the patio on a beautiful day because the inside inly has 1 table and the seating in the bar. Their prices are reasonable and their signature drinks are delicious! I tried the Hurritang and the Twisted Tang, both super refreshing. The crowd is very mixed and the bartender super friendly. I know all about trailers since I grew up in small-town Tennessee and because my parents own trailers in a trailer park that they rent out to people. Those double wides have cars on blocks, guys named Bubba, fried Bologna, Koolaid, and people drinking moonshine; this Double Wide has bands, cool people with tattoos, and festive drinks. I have only been to the Double Wide one time before the Yelp party. I liked it, but I just never seem to be going anywhere near Deep Ellum that would justify stopping in here. But when I do come here I have to admit that I like it. I like the tongue-in-cheek trailer park decor. I like the bartenders. I like the specialty drinks made with things like Yoohoo, Tang, and Boone's farm. I really like that the bartenders make these drinks very very strong - this makes me very very happy. I like that you have the option of sitting in the main room (the "trailer"), the patio, or seeing a band in the back room. Overall it is a chill place to have a strong drink and hang out and see a band play. read more

Double your pleasure! I have long been a big fan of Singlewide, so coming to double wide should be twice as good right? Well, yes, it was! Same cool vibe as Singlewide, with trailer trash decor by Dolly Python and dim lighting. Plus a big patio complete with toilet seat seating. Came in on a Thursday for a few drinks and karaoke. I came alone at first and was able to strike a conversation with no problem with some of the local patrons. Wow, let that sink in, because in Dallas it's hard to find a places where people will just chat you up. People and the bartenders were so friendly and the whole place was so low key. I guess when you lower the decor, the usual barriers to conversation go away too. Karaoke was great fun, Good Luck Karaoke was an excellent KJ team. They did a mock Karaoke Olympics for the night, complete with mock commentary and medal awards. I had so much fun. Thanks Double Wide! Double your fun! read more

Everyone else has pretty well explained the concept and charm of the Double Wide. Velvet paintings of cats and naked chicks, zombie murals, animal heads, Blue Moon on draft, PBR in a can... what's not to love? The staff and the people watching are stellar. I also have to say the Double Wide knows how to throw a mean theme party: 1. Double Wide Anniversary complete with mechanical bull. Sure, the bull kept blowing the power but it was super fun. The bruises lasted for weeks. 2. Orphanage Fundraiser raffle with kickass music and kickass raffle prizes. I won tickets to see the English Beat. 3. 4th of July Parking Lot Pool Party, complete with kiddie pools, water guns, grilled weiners, and fireworks. Sure, I came close to getting my hair caught on fire, but isn't that what the 4th is all about? Celebrating our freedom to act like fools? I can pretty much recommend Double Wide for any night, but the big bashes are not to be missed! read more

Frozen yoohoo yeehaws, twisted tang, Boone's farm martini are the reason I love this place. I took a nice WP who lives in a nice suburban area and had never been here. The bar was slow that night but it still served up some stiff drinks and was really fun. The bartenders were very friendly and it was fun to step in have some stiff drinks and check the place out. I wish they had a little more seating outside. I have a hard time plopping down on the toilet while people are watching. I know I'm shy like that but oh well maybe after a few drinks who knows what will happen. read more

"OMG we had that lamp at home growing up". Hrm. We didn't live in a doublewide, but I can definitely relate to this place. Talk about feeling at home! First time I came (years ago!) it wasn't long after they first opened and the "beautiful 500" had taken residence and, well, at 30 I no longer have the patience to jockey to the bar around skinny girls wearing 2 yards of fabirc. They seem to have moved on, thankfully, and the bar appeared to be full of laid back, cool folk. Beers are purty cheep, decor is fun, interesting reading on the bathroom wall... See all those Christmas lights and that tornado fixture on top of that Double Wide? If you have, you've arrived! This is a local low-key favorite of mine. I can arrive in chucks or heels and still feel fine. People from all walks of life and age groups show up so don't worry about "fitting in." The decor is a fun funky mish-mash of random retro finds like velvet paintings, deer heads, tinsel, graffiti, & Christmas lights. Seating is limited inside and out. Definitely check out the cool murals on the patio while you sit on a porcelain throne and sip your PBR. Speaking of drinks, order one of their trailer themed drinks. Yahoo Yoo-hoo, Yoo-hoo yeehaw, yanky doodle dandy...call it what you want and you'll get a frozen bevy that tastes like a tootsie roll, topped with a cherry. Be careful, you don't taste the alcohol, but they pack a punch. Sometimes there's live music playing in their building adjacent to the patio. There's usually a cover, but you can go in and out once you're stamped. Parking is tight around here, but I usually don't drive here. read more

Double Wide is a good dive bar. It's perched right between Fair Park and Deep Ellum off of Commerce. The Double Wide is a great Deep Ellum alternative. Actually, considering that Deep Ellum is a complete pit these days, it's no longer just an alternative -- it's a destination. Frequented by tattoo-clad hipsters, service-industry people who don't want to drink with the people they serve and liberal, creative, loft-dwelling locals alike, Double Wide has an eclectic crowd of down-to-earth people who like beer in a can and and a shot of Bush Mills. The douche count is low. The decor is country, but it's done in a quasi-ironic way. You'll find plenty of country hits on the juke box, but you'll also find a mix of other great stuff. This isn't like Adair's on Commerce. That's a country bar - a young country bar at that. That's right, I know the difference. So what? You can come into Double Wide with boots and leather on, but you're far more likely to be the front man of a local rock band than a cowboy. Speaking of which, they have a pretty decent venue with lots of solid acts. I've seen a few different types of bands here, but I think they lean towards modern southern rock / rockabilly. The only downside is the shit neighborhood that surrounds Double Wide. I've heard of friends' cars broken into when they've parked up the street and one time I saw a smashed window in the parking lot! Always keep your guard up in this part of town! Double Wide is a bit far out of my way for me to visit all the time, but when I'm hanging with friends who live around the Swiss Ave. area, we like to hit it up. Three and a half stars. read more

Thursdays til 10pm, $2 wells, and at 10pm, wonderful karaoke. Sundays, $3 you call its. Mondays and Tuesdays seem to be cheap nights too. The bartenders are really nice, and are willing to talk to you if you're there alone (definite plus for a single girl who likes to drink), and the people who frequent the bar are mostly locals who are also friendly. The bar interior is usually freezing cold due to blasting air conditioning which is great in the summer months. The outdoor area, while it could use a few more tables and chairs for nights when the whole patio isn't standing room only with hipsters, has a row of toilets you can plop down on if you get really desperate for a seat. The inside has a really long bench seat along the wall which is great for watching karaoke, making your butt happy, and watching the locally-filmed or themed movies they show sometimes. The yoo hoo yee haw is amazing, tasting nothing like booze yet containing enough alcohol to topple you over with relatively few drinks. It is also addictive: If you have one, you will definitely contract the yoohoo hunger, and I have personally yet to succeed in sating it. Every time I try, I wake up with a hangover and a desire for a yoohoo based coffee drink. Even if you don't like yoo hoo or frozen drinks, DoubleWide is a great place to meet up with friends, drink alone, watch a movie, or sing karaoke. On popular nights they also have a food truck parked out front. Lately it's been hypnotic donuts (delicious chicken biscuit sandwich) and tutta's pizza, though other trucks seem to show up sometimes. Their facebook page usually indicates whether there will be a food truck, and what. This is by far my favorite bar in the area, and it should be yours too, especially if you live nearby. If you're from uptown, come on down, but don't leave electronics and valuables visible in your front seat or your car will definitely be broken into. They do have a sweet bike rack made out of bikes in case you like to transport your thirsty mouth around that way. read more

I have been meaning to review the DW for a long time, but after the last couple of weeks, it's been on my mind more. Maybe because Showtime is currently showing "The Night of the White Pants," a movie that was shot in part at the DW a few years ago. Maybe because my latest experience at Club Dada was so incredibly disappointing, after which I showed up at the DW for a decent drink and air conditioning! I've been going to the DW since it opened many years ago. The drinks are good, the staff is friendly, and generally everyone in there is nice. During the week, it's mostly regulars, but I've seen strangers from out of town stumble upon it and have a great time. The bartenders will take the time to introduce out-of-towners to other patrons, offer them menus of good restaurants that will deliver, and just generally make them feel welcome. There's always live music in the venue side on the weekends, and the great part about having the venue separate is that you only have to pay a cover charge if you're going in that side. You never pay a cover charge just to go in the bar for a drink. Also, since the smoking ban has taken effect, you don't have to worry about smelling like smoke, but smoking is allowed on the outdoor patio. On the weekends, parking can be a little tricky, but they always have someone walking around the nearby lots to ensure the safety of everyone and their vehicles. The Double Wide is located on the outskirts of Deep Ellum, on Commerce St. Atop the bar, which is literally a double wide trailer, sits a large rotating Tornado. I know right, classy. The double wide takes its partially cheeky, partially genuine affection for all things trailer park, and runs with it. Inside the suprisingly large trailer (i only got me a single-wide) is a couple of small bathrooms, a jukebox, a long bar, and some plastic covered furniture. The decor is classic 20th century redneck chic, with velvet paintings of half naked women, wall-mounted fish, and taxidermy. They have one small television in the corner that is usually playing tornado disaster videos. Classic black and white films have also been known to feature. They have a few beers on tap, shiner included. But if you want to really get in the spirit of things, or are needing some supplies for your meth lab....they have a nice collection of canned beer. Adjacent to the trailer is a small open area with outdoor seating. Accross this patio space is the entrance to the stage area that features mostly local mostly rock artists. For a weekly listing of who's playing there, see their ad in the Dallas Observer, or checkout the website. Its a small little venue, with not much in the way of room, or ventilation, or acoustics...but that just makes it perfect for a small imtimate set. There is also a small bar in the back so you dont have to skoot on back to the trailer for a refill. Overall i love this place. Double Wide is hands-down one of the best dive bars in Dallas. There's always some mischief afoot at this place: karaoke, bands, DJs, you name it. This is one of the greatest places to see local DFW bands rock out. The venue side is nice and intimate without being too small. It's pretty much perfect to catch that new buzzband you've been hearing all about. The bar side is full of fun and character. You could spend an afternoon just checking out the cool decorations. It's trailer chic, y'all! There's even a great patio between the two sides where you'll find the smokers, or folks just wanting to catch some air between sets. There are murals on the outside walls, really giving it some urban Dallas charm. Oh, and the drinks are cheap. You can't beat their prices or specials. The bartenders are all cool and serve you promptly & fairly. This isn't going to be one of those bars where you wait forever to get a drink while all the hot chicks get served before you. Yes, we all get it. It's a trailer with a tornado on top. We can all pretend to be rednecks in a trailer. Unless there's a band playing, there's really not a lot going on. They might have a DJ. They might have a theme night. If trhere's not a lot of cars out front don't bother stopping. I'm not sure if it's a dive bar or supposed to be mocking the dive bar. Either way, there are better places with beer and music. I do go for the occasional show. The venue set up is pretty good, but not as good as Lola's in Fort Worth. read more

This place is molded after a Doublewide Mobil Home and exudes Trailor Park Kitch decor right down to the Tornado on the logo! The male bartender was wearing an American Flag wife-beater tank top and Daisy Dukes that were barely there. What a Hoot! (I don't think I've ever used that phrase in a review) They even have a signature "White Russian" cocktail made with chocolate YooHoo! Mason Jar glasses and plastic cups are the standard serving vessels. Right on the way to the Deep Ellum art district, truly a classic Dive Bar! Austin. Shit; I'm still only in Austin. Every time I think I'm gonna wake up back in the jungle... Yeah, so Austin certainly does come to mind when I think of this place. But that is a bit of a cop out. What does it mean?? Mismatched, kitschy decor? Check! Equally mismatched, eclectic tunes? Check! Live music in separate but connected venue? Check! Varied crowd? Double-check! This place definitely follows all the Austin rules, but at the same time makes them their own. The dark interior of the main bar is small and intimate, with a small-to-moderate beer selection that includes a wonderful IPA that kept the cerevisaphile in our group happy. The staff was friendly, and the small crowd early on a Saturday was relaxed. Very relaxed. There is an attached patio with a few scattered tables that hit the spot on a mild fall evening so we headed out there to sip our drinks. My mixed drinks were well done and decently-priced. There were all types here, including hipsters, music lovers, and their parents (yes, parents...but hell, who am I to talk). There was a small music venue attached to the other side of the patio, but a cover was required, so no go for me. Keep in mind that there does not appear to be any cocktail waitresses, so if your sitting at the patio don't make the mistake of waiting for your order to be taken like I did. D'oh!! Although the place is a little hard to find, and the parking out front was minimal (you can park on the side-streets, though), this was a perfect spot to dip one's toes in the water and start a long evening bar crawl out slowly. Maybe it was a little too slow (I was on the fence for awhile about a three-star or four as a result), but I will definitely be back again to try and find out! read more

The decor is graffiti chic and sort of reminds you of a country junkyard. They have specialty drinks for cheap prices that won't leave you crying in your beer. Hit the Double Wide for the first time on a Wed about 10pm...wed is half priced drafts = $2.50 for a pint of Boulevard, Stella, Dos Equis and a couple others. Arriving alone I found some elbow room at the bar and ended up having a great conversation with a regular patron and the bartender, Dave, who is really chill. Had 4 pints and for the novelty factor had a can of Lone Star for $4. Definitely a locals spot with alot of walk-ins from the apartments near-by. And it has one of my favorite two-player video games ever--Buck Hunter--for $5 bucks you and a friend can compete for about 15 minutes to see who can nail the most bucks and other critters with your fast pump shot-guns. And I call myself a pacificist? Only negative would be that IMHO a jukebox is spendy at 50 cents a song. But with cheap brews, guess they have to make some $ somewhere. A friend and I found this place in yelp and I'm so glad I did. This place is awesome! We went for Happy Hour on a Wednesday. I wasn't expecting much of this place hence the name. It's trashy yet in the best way possible. Happy hour was dirt cheap and they had free tacos! Can't turn that down! The music that they played was really different (also in a good way) they had a record player with some indie rock. The Ash Blonde bar tender made really good drinks. I can not believe I have not written a review about this marvelous Dallas destination. Truly, a cherished gem of Big D, the Double Wide expresses everything one looks for in a good time. With literal potty humor in a form of toilets for seats to downright awesome and original cocktails - this place has got it all. Oh, and not to mention, it's in an actual Double Wide. Don't be alarmed when you walk into the space and first see a bright pink, upside down Christmas Tree: it's all part of the fun...the uninhibited fun that takes over you and lets you know it's okay to get crazy sometimes. The Yoo Hoo Yeehaw, a frozen concoction made with vodka and, yes - that's right, Yoo Hoo has to be my favorite. As a play on the whole double wide community, each specialty cocktail or should I say, Mama's Mixes, resonates with that country, low-key feel. Ingredients like pixie sticks, Tang, and Boon's Farms are integrated with liquor to make one stellar drank. I implore you to stop by Double Wide. After hearing about this place, I was excited to stop in for a pre-concert drink when in Deep Ellum. It did not disappoint. It has a kitchsy charm that brings you back to a 70s trailer park. The decor is eclectic...love the decorative toilets in the courtyard. The music was awesome and the service great. We had their signature drink, the yoohoo yeehaw and they were surprisingly good. The local bands that frequent the back stage area usually suck, but hey, they look like the Killers, so they rock, right? The inside has a jukebox and plastic covering all the furniture. They certainly go with the theme . . . all this being said, it's a great dive bar. It's popular with the cool kids, and I mean the COOL kids, not the uptown kids who are too busy poppin' collars to notice they are being overcharged for whiskey that's probably not what they claim it is. I dig the separate trailers - one for live bands or DJs and the other for a chill dive bar for the regulars. The staff is also friendly and pretty funny. Sound system is really good and the music played in the regulars bar is borderline amazing. Cheaper-ish drinks and outdoor area for your fresh-air needs. After living in Chicago with a smoking ban in place for over a year now, it was an adjustment going back to smoking indoors. Not that I smoke (anymore) but smelling like ass in the morning is definitely not something I miss. And listen up darlings, it's only a matter of time before you get your very own smoking ban. And it's not all bad, ok?? Have mercy on the ex-smokers!
