This place should be kept a secret and limited to invitees only. I almost didn't want to review for that reason as I'm not sure everyone should check it out. It has a special, magical charm of the perfect dive bar. I'm ignoring my previous trip there as, well, I should not have brought that person to this place. This place is not for pretentious people. Thus I was at home at this spot. It looks camouflaged by plain wrapping with a boring exterior. Open the door and it is a world of more things to explore than you have time to. You are treated like family as a stranger. Be ready to be among people who want to know you. I guess I fit as some there knew my friends from other dive bars. I never realized how small the Dallas Dive bar world was. I have some cool friends. The music is good on the video jukebox. The tears came to my eyes as a few post 9/11 patriotic songs were played (I bleed Army green and so did some that didn't return home to their moms intact.) Glad none there saw my eyes or noticed my toast to my memories. The couple dancing on the next song made me feel more at home. Good thing a good 2 step or waltz never played or I might have had to find a partner. The decor is somewhat Green Bay Packer-ish. Okay, a lot of Green Bay love in the decor. Heh, yes, I still carry a grudge from the 1967 Ice Bowl as a life long Cowboy fan should! But, I respect a bar owner who has actual stock in his/her team and displays it proudly! We arrived on a Wednesday and there was a potluck spread that we were invited to partake if, then summarily criticized for enjoying...I think it was the difference between the people who run the bar and the people who brought the food...regardless, there was enough to go around. I love love love dive bars, and this is a true one by all means. The place looks like a dump from the outside and not a place I would have ever thought about going in to. Luckily, I have cool friends and they found this bar a few months back and I finally got to go check it out! The place looks old, and has that old true dive bar character to it. The owner is really nice and there is a bartender named Kristi that kicked butt. There are plenty of TV's around so we got to watch the Rangers game. The juke box is pretty good too. It's the folks that really make this place, how down to earth, drinks, and some of the fun things to do. Came here to meet up with some folks for a fun event. Great music juke box on hand. Yelp keeps recommending that I review Fireplace Lounge. Even thought I don't feel that I should, because then it will publicize what only a few select people know about this place. What I really want to say is to stay in Uptown.. stay in Deep Ellum.. Don't go south of Mockingbird Lane. But for those who live outside the box and experience the greatness of the Fireplace Lounge will never look at life the same. Fireplace will never cave in to be a trendy spot. It will be true to you and all your friends. The drinks are fairly priced. The juke box is stacked with good music. Lots of classic soul and country hits to keep you dancing for a month of Saturdays. There is ONE pool table to help pass the time, if you're the restless type. I recently met a couple Cowboy cheerleaders there. They look better on TV and the hair on their legs were a bit stubbly. This place gets ALL 5 stars for personality and inexpensive liquor- ON NEW YEAR'S EVE, no less!!! They had a couple pot luck snack tables set up for patrons to place shared food they had brought. There were some really good bites. The bartender came around making sure everyone was kosher on drinks. We spent most of our time at an outdoor DIY firepit. It was a cold night, but the fire made it bearable. I had 2 Honey Cokes with double the Jim Beam Honey. and a Coke, while my hubby had one of the double alcohol Honey Cokes, another drink and a Shiner. Our tab was only $17! Seriously!?!?! "Yes, our prices are cheap!" the bartender said. No kidding!!! I found my favorite new dive bar!!! I still like the Grapevine, and Lee Harvey's is still on the list, but the Fireplace Lounge my have raced to #1 on my dive bar list! read more

Fireplace Lounge is a dark dive with friendly bartenders and patrons. The outside is a nondescript white wooden structure resembling a house. Inside is cozy with bar stools that hark back to the '80s. Beer is offered in cans and bottles only, which is a bummer since I dig the draft beer. I do get to use my koozie, which is cool. The offering of liquor is just right both in selection and price. Hang out there long enough and you're bound to be having some good ol' fun. read more

You will either love or hate the FPL. I personally love it. The owners are from Wisconsin, which doesn't seem to be a state a lot of people in Dallas are from. They are a Packers bar, but they don't really have a lot of TVs like a regular sports bar. There is a jukebox with a nice range of different kinds of music. The regulars and bartenders are some of the sweetest folks you'll meet in a bar, and the drinks are cheap. Sure, the bathroom is a little sketchy. For the ladies, the toilet is sort of jammed in a corner at an angle that makes it a bit awkward to use. For the gents, there's a urinal covered in plastic and duct tape signifying its serious out-of-order-ness.
