The local bands that frequent the back stage area usually suck, but hey, they look like the Killers, so they rock, right? The inside has a jukebox and plastic covering all the furniture. They certainly go with the theme . . . all this being said, it's a great dive bar. It's popular with the cool kids, and I mean the COOL kids, not the uptown kids who are too busy poppin' collars to notice they are being overcharged for whiskey that's probably not what they claim it is. And they have a fake tornado on the roof . . . yeah . . . I said it . . . God bless the Double Wide. This is just a fun cool bar to go to with an outdoor patio. It is exactly what you would expect from a place called the "Doublewide" the patio is just a fenced off area on the side, pretty much in the parking lot, and they play outstanding old school country music. The beer is always ice cold and the bartender is super friendly. The Doublewide has turned into one of our favorite places to stop after work on a sunny Friday afternoon. I dig the separate trailers - one for live bands or DJs and the other for a chill dive bar for the regulars. The staff is also friendly and pretty funny. Sound system is really good and the music played in the regulars bar is borderline amazing. Cheaper-ish drinks and outdoor area for your fresh-air needs. After living in Chicago with a smoking ban in place for over a year now, it was an adjustment going back to smoking indoors. Not that I smoke (anymore) but smelling like ass in the morning is definitely not something I miss. And listen up darlings, it's only a matter of time before you get your very own smoking ban. This is the bar that never ends. Yes it goes on and on my friends... Went here for a concert a few weeks ago, and literally, the place never ends. You enter, see a bar, grab a drink. Turn left and you find yourself in a hallway...then magically in some sort of courtyard...then in another building? And there's another bar? And a stage? All in all, pretty cool, laid back venue. As a first-timer, being greeted with hanging severed heads and limbs, made me love this dinky little dive bar even more. God knows what little character about 90% of the places here in Dallas have... it's good to know there's a great place like Double Wide to rely on when you need a place to forget about why you live here... or how much you miss Austin. (I mean honestly, I know I'm not the only one who doesn't call Dallas their favorite city on the planet) $10 minimum on credit cards really isn't too bad. The bartender was pretty cute. There was a good mix of tall biker dudes w/ braided beards, the tatted sorts, PBR hipsters, and normals... Really like Double Wide. Everything seems to work well together. The main bar is dark and intimate and decorated as you would believe given the name. The bartenders are cool as hell. Bowie playing overhead for almost an hour-SWEET. Beer selection is not fantastic but they have Franconia-good local brewery and Boulevard Single Wide IPA. IF you need anything more you may be a little too beer snobby. The patio is very nice. Mural art on the walls(check out Manilow at San Quentin) and a very laid back feel. Cool place to spend an evening when the temps allow. The patrons run the entire gamut and all seemed to get along well-again everyone was laid back. Parking can be problematic and it is hard to find your first time out but these are minor complaints that you will forget shortly after entering. This was picked by a couple friends in town from Michigan. They thought the concept was hilarious. Which it is, but after reading the reviews for it I was equally as curious to check it out for myself. It was much smaller inside than I had envisioned. Came here around 6 on Saturday. Only a couple patrons at the bar. I ordered a beer and I also tried the Old Timer (similar to an old fashioned) It was strong and tangy. All drinks pretty much around $6. Decor reminds me very much of Forest Room in Denver. Strange taxidermy covers the walls. Dark dim lighting and kind of grungy feeling but it's all part of the experience so you enjoy it. There was a girl doing nails in the corner. The patio was cool. I was obsessed with the cactus potted into toilets along the wall that greets you when you go outside. Boone Farm and Tang drinks? Great, unique concept! From the mobile home decor, tornado on the roof, toilet seating, and sleeveless cut-off shirt dress-code - it's definitely not boring! We took the advice of our Yelp friends and tried the Yoohoo Yeehaw drink - it did not disappoint. The night we were in town, they had a huge blow up pool and slide. Unfortunately, we weren't equipped with bathing suits. They had a small cover charge of $5, which was due to the band playing that night. Apparently, they don't typically have a cover charge. Such a fun dive bar tucked away in Deep Ellum. Tons of funky, tacky decorations. It looks like a scene straight out of the Bad Santa movie. My most favorite part of this dive bar are the frozen Yoo-hoo Yeehaws. I definitely didn't expect to find these little drinks of heaven here. This place could be much better but I get the vibe they (and the general clientele there) are content with simply being mediocre. There is a $15 min on credit cards which I couldn't quite comprehend, the prices were a tad on the expensive side for what this bar is (a dive in Deep Ellum) and the bartender was a bit surly for a nice Thursday afternoon. Oh, and one can only take so much ska-punk until it gets pretty annoying. The kitchy decor was fun and the beer cold but that's about all the Double Wide has going for it as far as I can tell. This might be some peoples thing (shitty service coupled with expensive drinks and crap music) but it definitely isn't mine. Decor = great, everything else = needs vast improvement. read more

It really feels weird to type this out, but I think that I prefer the Single Wide to the Double Wide. Maybe it's the size or the layout, but I prefer the Single. With that out of the way, let me say that the drinks here are amazing. Parking? A whole other thing, but the drinks are the type of low grade, dive bar exploitation awesomeness that you will come to expect from the type crowds that flood this gem at the end of Deep Ellum and Expo Park. I will say that the stage here is pretty great if there's a local band that you want to check out. The Double Wide is populated with an interesting crowd of young (20s) hard core hipsters (lots of tattoos, a punk rock edge, throw back Daddy-os and Mary Janes). There is a really unique flavor and atmosphere to the place. Strong pours at the bar. A great mixture of patio, indoor, and music venue spaces. A great place to venture out to see the local wildlife. Much fancier than the double wide trailer you remember from summer trips to your Uncle Jim Bob's place as a kid, this Double Wide is barrel-o-fun with wood paneling to match! It's got all the essential elements a trailer should have... couches covered in plastic, a window air conditioner unit, paintings of naked women, and a faint smell of cat pee. All of course add to the mass appeal which is the Double Wide. The specialty drinks taste like... ok well most of them taste like tang and all of them are sweet, but they are the best drinks I've ever had in a bar posing as a trailer posing as a music venue! Nice hipster bar in downtown Dallas - I come to Dallas often for business so I always stop in for a drink, and while I like it, I'm always struck by how many severely porky, over-tattooed girls are in here, the large number of male slobs in shorts, and lately how many gorgeous transexuals there were. (I think it was their weekly "Transexual Tuesday" night if memory serves) I felt inclined to warn a couple of the boys who were hitting on them but kept my mouth shut. Maybe they were into it. As you all probably know, my hubby and I are fans of dive bars, and the Big D has it's share. One of the diamonds in the rough is a dark beauty friends have been telling me about for years, but I just recently had a chance to enjoy. The cocktail list is truly glorious with frozen drinks made from Yoohoo chocolate dink and Tang orange breakfast drink. Of course you can get generic drinks like Rum and Coke, but why would you when you could live huge!? The night I attended was street taco night for all night Happy Hour. They were actually pretty tasty. Why I was surprised, I'm not sure since the drinks were of a higher caliber than one would expect from a "hole in the wall" like the Double Wide. After nearly a year of passing by this place I finally managed to make it over to the Double Wide. I had been wanting to try it out as I heard it was a really quirky atmosphere that one truly needed to experience. I really enjoyed the dark/mood lighting and trailer accessories placed around the bar area. Random paintings, couches, TV's, and many other things unique to this place lend itself to a fun time or a place to relax and listen to the jukebox. My initial reason for going over to Double Wide was to watch a coworkers band play. I wasn't totally happy with paying a cover to listen, but I guess that's just me wanting it to be free. Either way it wasn't very much and there is a bar in the listening area as well. After witnessing a coworker wearing extremely tight white pants I decided it was in my best interest to begin blacking that from my memory. Drinks are of a relatively decent price. Very comparable to most places around. I would say that some of them weren't as strong as I would have preferred but it did depend on which bartender I ended up getting. I think the main bar area poured better drinks than the venue area but its hard to say as I had many, many, drinks that night. I didn't spend much time on the patio but it was pretty large and on a nice evening a group of people could sit outside and enjoy one another's company very easily. There was a parking lot off to the side of the building that you can park in. A security guy was walking around checking things out and as far as I know the parking was free. We didn't pay and our car wasn't towed so I guess you can take that as free. You should be able to find a spot but if not you can drive around the corner and park on a side street. Like most places in the Deep Ellum area you could have a little walk if you park far away. You shouldn't have to though. I will definitely spend more time over at the Double Wide and try out their custom drink concoctions, as I hear they are very good. read more

I strongly like this bar (I reserve love for few). They have creative libations involving yoo-hoo and tang, good specials and decent pours. The bartenders are nice and the crowd is laid back. One thing that is different, but awesome, is that the venue is in a separate building from the main bar, so you don't have to pass on going here if there is a show. There are nude velvet paintings on the wall and the furniture has seen better days, but these are not bad things. read more

This is my favorite dive bar in Dallas. It has so much character (including the staff!), is grimy yet cozy, always has a diverse crowd, and offers awesome drink specials, as well as a basic but solid beer list on tap. They have karaoke during the week and a DJ on Sunday nights, and possibly other nights, as well. There is also an interesting outdoor patio area with all sorts of random decorations. Double Wide is open on the weekends, but the last time we visited during the day, they were not open until 7 pm. read more

"Takes reservations"...when I saw that on the review form for Double Wide, I started laughing. Reservations...Double Wide...yeah, right. I am something of an aficionado of the dive bar. There are several varieties of dive bar. There is the legitimate dive bar, the wanna be dive bar, and the faux dive bar. Examples of legitimate dive bars can be seen in Lee Harvey's, Adair's or The Tradewinds Social Club. The Katy Trail Ice House is a wanna be. The Ivy Tavern is a faux dive bar....weathered wood does not a dive bar make! Double Wide fits somewhere in between the first two categories, but it pulls it off and does it pretty very well. Some people think the trailer park theme and kitsch are overdone...I respectfully disagree. Coasters reading "Our drinks hit you harder than your daddy!" ...cocktails made out of Tang and Yoohoo, year round Christmas lights and Velvet Elvis paintings...it all fits and fits well. The staff displays the perfect degree of disinterested and crabby attitude. The drinks are reasonably priced and quickly supplied. The music can be whatever the bartender has on his/her phone or iPad plugged into the sound system, so it can be really good (Lefty Frizzell) or it can sometimes suck (I will refrain from naming anybody so as to not offend). During my recent trip there on a Friday night, they played some pretty good 70's stuff (well, that's something of an oxymoron). The best part of Double Wide is the eclectic crowd. Professionals, people with neck tats, faux bikers, authentic bilkers, freak, geeks, sneaks....you name it, they got it. I have shot the shit with a felon, overheard the conversation of computer dorks (not for long, believe me) and scratched the cinder block sized head of Pit Bulldog that was allowed to sit with its owner on the couch along the front wall. The age range of the crowd is a good mix, though at times it can be a bit overloaded with hipsters, mostly of the dreaded Fashionista variety. You can't go to Deep Ellum without going to the Doublewide. It's either your first stop or your last. I never really know what kind of people I will find here and that's sort of awesome. Drinks are cheap and the people you meet are always entertaining. Not the best place to catch live music in Dallas but definitely my favorite. I was told that I needed to edit my last review for Double Wide because I can't "draw conclusions about the broader business practices of the business you reviewed based on your own experience." Well, this is my experience and I'm not going to change the story. My group of 4 decided to spend our New Years Eve at Double Wide. Paid $10 to get in, had some drinks, danced a lot and had a great time until --- my friend was waiting on the line to use the restroom and an employee started to push her out of the way and told her she said to clear the space. He put his hands on her and aggressively shoved her out of line (she was next to use the restroom) and told her that she had to leave the facility. After being handled aggressively by a man, she hit him and was pushed out on to the street. I got our 2 friends and we all went outside with her. 2-3 employees were outside yelling at us all in front of the crowd saying we needed to leave (meanwhile we were waiting for a LYFT) and that we needed to get off property (we were in the street on public ground). The employees kept yelling at us and I went up to the man who pushed my friend and told him he was wrong because she was next in line and was not blocking any traffic. He refused to listen and kept yelling over me to her. I will not be going back to this facility- especially one that allows a man to put his hands on a woman. The party was great and I enjoyed my time there but they need to do a better job at hiring their employees. I'm highly disappointed and hope that people realize how trashy this spot really is. read more

I'm not a bar regular anywhere, but there's a pretty good size crew that shows up every week, and they're totally willing to accept you as one of the group. The crowd is crazy mixed - bikers, tortured artists, hipsters, lawyers and accountants, all in the same place and nobody cares. Okay, so the location here is perfect, outskirts of Deep Ellum and close to Amsterdam Bar and Meridian Room, etc... As what Debz said, "kitchy trashy cool" is a perfect description of this place, sounds like an album name. Come here, park yourself at the bar, and order a PBR...always a good equation. The lighting here in dark and has a bunch of random accessories all throughout...very relaxing feel. The courtyard is my favorite, especially with the "Barry Manilow Live at San Quentin" mural! The courtyard is a place where you can find you and your friends talking for hours. And the music room on the other side is where the live music happens, cool place. They have a cool, small stage for live shows and the bar itself has a lot of room (so if organizing a group, there's bound to be enough space). Cheap drinks, good bartenders, fun atmosphere. Rockers, indie kids, hipsters, bums, snobs, geeks...you name it I've seen them here. Grab a $1 PBR and head the outdoor patio...there you will see things. Scary things. Funny things. Disgusting things. Don't forget to take a photo of yourself on the toilets outside....makes for great Facebook photos. Seriously. The location isn't the best and parking can be scary/or not exist....but you'll have a great time here for sure. Bands, cheap beer, lots of comfy places to hang out, a great jukebox and friendly staff make this bar one of my favorites. I came to Double Wide about a week after single wide so I am going to try my best not to compare the two. The parking wasn't a fun experience. At all. Your options are a oddly shaped, packed lot with a high risk of getting your car hit or a few blocks away on the street. We chose the street. There were almost three sections to this bar. The actual bar, the patio area and a place for musical acts. Musical acts had a small space with limited occupancy and was an extra charge so I didn't partake. The patio was nice but super crowded...picture a lot of smokers and no heat on a cold, cold night. Inside the bar was nice...not too packed and adorned with white trashiness like naked lady pics, light up Christmas lawn decorations, taxadermy, etc. When at Single Wide I was questioned why I didn't try the YooHoo Yeehaw so we did just that. It was actually really good. If I weren't driving I would have had another. It would be extra perfect on a warm night. Now for the comparison of Single vs Doublewide: the people. I felt that single wide was more laid pack and that double wide was more for the hipsters...I mean, my skinny jeans just didn't feel like enough. I would go back though, close enough to Deep Ellum to hit up a few places in one night. read more

I was skeptical at first to come to this bar because I thought it was going to be just another bar that relies on their schtick to get by. Was I surprised when I went and visited a few weeks ago!! Very exciting place! A friend of mine invited me out to see a band that she knew so to appease her I went out. WAS I SURE EXCITED TO SEE THIS PLACE!! It is like a little slice of redneck heaven in the heart of Dallas! There is a velvet Elvis poster, and more wall knick knacks than you can throw grandma's wooden leg at! It's fantastic how realistic this bar is. It is dead on a trailer park!! There was such a great vibe here everywhere you go! either in the bar or where the band plays. EVEN outside!! It literally took me the entire time that I was there to see half of the visual orgasm that was this place! I am almost certain that there was a blasty blast had by all that night! either that or just me... All I have to say is that I have found a new favorite drink and it is called: THE HURRI-TANG!!!! I asked the bar tender what was up, as I thought it was live music on weekend nights. In retrospect I think he took my comment as homophobic, which was not my intent. I was disappointed, nothing more. Fast forward a couple of rounds, I order a drink from another bar tender. He says "that will be $9 US". I give him a $10 and as he's turning around, I joke to my friends "what, did he think I was gonna pay in Pesos?" At that time he turns back and shouts at me "hey I heard that and you just said it cause I'm Mexican". He then comes out from behind the bar, rushes me and grabs me by the shirt. My girl friend jumped between us, causing him to back up and he rips my shirt in the process. Needless to say, we left and I will never go back. First, it's not a given that there will be a band on Saturday night like I assumed. Second, and most mportant, I can see how my comments could have been construed as homophobic and even racist, although that was certainly not my intent.
