Finally got to check out this long awaited Passion Fruit Pie at Doubting Thomas and it did NOT disappoint! The Banoffe Pie was Ridiculous! I believe they both have this amazing macadamia graham cracker crust. I'd go back for just these Pies! I also had their signature breakfast burrito which had pulled pork in it. Everyone had it at there table. Loved the Jammie egg inside, the house made Salsa Verde and Pickled Onions! Staff is super nice, street parking and cards are accepted. Mad that it took me this long to go!
UNDOUBTEDLY one of the best breakfast spots in my humble opinion. Not sure why this is spot is called Doubting Thomas but it would be more appropriately named "Undoubtedly Amazing". The menu is legit. It has a nice assortment of traditional breakfast plates along with more modern items like the lomo saltado bowl--my favorite! Do not skip out on the carrot cake. Ugh. So good. The icing on top of the cake is that the place has some of the best seating vibes. Lots of windows for the indoor seats and plentiful outdoor tables giving this a chic urban feel.
Their baked goods are good, but not mind-blowingly amazing. That said, I absolutely love that they use a lot of seasonal ingredients. Their breakfast and lunch menus are just okay. I've tried their burrito and burger, and while both were loaded with ingredients, they were surprisingly lacking in flavor. Don't get the Thomas Breakfast--I was extremely disappointed, especially considering the price we paid. Giving it 4 stars for the variety of food and baked goods, the focus on seasonal ingredients, and the ample indoor and outdoor seating.

Beware of street parking, main road doesn't have day restrictions but the residential streets near by have street sweeping (No Parking) is from 10am-1pm Monday on one side and Tuesday on the other side. We visited on a Monday around 12pm and they were quite packed for brunch, we didn't dine in but really only stopped by to grab some pastries. Might need to come back to try their food another time. Passion Fruit Pie -really good, if you love tart this would be up your alley. Fresh passion fruit topped helps balance the sweetness of the pie. Almond Croissant (White Chocolate Strawberry Garnish)- seems like their croissant flavor rotates. Wasn't expecting the filling to also be strawberry, would have loved the filling to be almond. Croissant is more of a flaky dense bread texture not buttery fluffy pastry. Not the best I've had. Chocolate Chip Oat Cookie -amazing cookie, love a good oat cookie without raisins. This one did just that, would grab this again if we come back and they have it. Strawberry Rhubarb Hand Pie -seems like a permanent item, saw them prepping a ton more when we were there. My favorite item we got, pastry was fluffy and buttery. Not too sweet, filling was the strawberry preserve and some sort of custard. Seasonal Citrus Vanilla Danish - the citrus was charred with a torch which added too much burnt flavor. Not sure what citrus it was but also too strong and overpowering, slightly bitter as well.
Great food and service. Waited in a short line to order - it got pretty busy but nothing out of the ordinary. Neat brutalist interior if you enjoy that kind of aesthetic. Sooo many amazing pastries to choose from!
What an excellent breakfast/brunch spot! I've visited three times, and each time has been positive. The staff are welcoming and nice! My favorite is their Thomas Breakfast. It's a simple breakfast plate with two eggs, a biscuit, some bacon, a small salad, and jam. The salad is well dressed and cuts through the richness of the yolk. The biscuit is buttery and perfect with the jam. I gave my husband the bacon, and he said it was good because it wasn't salty. I enjoy their regular drip of coffee with a side of cream and sugar. It goes perfectly with their Passionfruit Pie! There is indoor and outdoor dining. There is free street parking. I highly recommend!
Shouldn't have doubted and delayed my visit for so long to this place. Sunny yet breezy LA last weekend was certainly perfect time to get some sun kisses sitting in the outdoor patio in front of the venue. They did have plenty indoor ones and worry not if you saw long line since it moved in a blink. They seemed to be super efficient with the system of having people placing orders before finding seats. Their pastries and cakes were the first ones hooking my attention, and surprise surprise people actually loved their brunch menu especially their burritos. We went for the #1 favorite, the Doubtless Burrito, following the attendant reco for a first timer. Oh my word, tons of shredded pork shoulder stuffed in the burrito with perfectly cooked egg and all the seasonings were on point! The filling portion surely worth the price. Never ever skip their Passion Fruit Pie and do hear everyone's reco about it. The graham cracker crust people were bragging about was indeed dabomb! The slice was such flawless combo of freshly tangy fruit flavor with sweet and slightly salty base. YUMMMM!!

For my main, I got the chicken katsu bowl. The katsu sauce is peanut based, which added a unique twist, and when I asked for hot sauce, they brought out one that was absolutely incredible. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying moist and tender inside. Even the rice and salad that came with the bowl were flavorful and clearly made with care. My boyfriend ordered the pastrami burrito, which he loved, along with a vanilla cold brew. Both were gone in no time. Great food, great flavors, and plenty of menu items I'd come back to try. We'll definitely be back.

Braised pork shoulder, potatoes, white cheddar, smoked chili, cilantro, onion, eggs, tomatillo salsa. I need to reiterate that I don't like breakfast burritos because they're usually greasy and heavy, and one-note. But this has such a wonderful variety of tastes and textures -- the pork shoulder is juicy and flavorful, not heavy or greasy. Tomatillo is house-made, zesty and refreshing. - Bread + jam: seasonal jam (blueberry) and sprouted rye. 7.5/10 because the portion was so small, but everything is housemade and it tastes that way. - Passionfruit pie: 10/10. Macadamia graham crust, passionfruit custard, house whipped cream, fresh passionfruit. On par with the passionfruit pies I had in Hawaii. Wonderfully tart, not too sweet, whipped cream is clearly fresh. Crust is nutty and not too buttery. - Matcha latte: 3/10. Matcha is low quality, tasted bland and weak.
Lovely cafe in Historic Filipinotown. Light seating indoors and out. That said, I wouldn't work from here for more than an hour or two. Don't be that person who sits there for more[1]. Doubting Thomas roasts their own product right in Los Angeles. Got their batch brew and was pleasantly delighted. It was bliss! The kitchen is an *operation*: multiple folks baking, prepping, plating. Between the line of customers waiting for coffee and staff delivering orders and bussing, there is a happy whirlwind of activity. Love the vibe. Besides coffee, they have sweet and savory items. One of the best cafe/restaurants/bakeries in HiFi. Their passion fruit pie is a must try. The macadamia nut crust has the perfect crunchy buttery bite to it. The pie is slightly tart but not too sweet, and has a hint of condensed milk. Tastes like a dessert you would get in the Philippines. This can be ordered by the slice but whole pie requests are done online. When ordering you have to give them at least 3-4 days notice however I put in a last minute Christmas Eve pick up order (placed on the 23rd) and someone named Ana reached out via text to confirm my order right away. Super friendly. Their breakfast burritos are pretty good too. They used to have a earl grey pastrami burrito that was super tender, juicy, and almost aromatic. Haven't seen it on the menu in a while though. Decent amount of seating inside but parking can be tricky. Super busy during the week.
I always passed by this place, never knowing how good of a breakfast menu they have! I came here last week with a friend after thinking of what we wanted to eat that morning. Since it was 8:30, I tried my luck and sure enough, I found street parking down the street. The cafe is fairly big with patio seating available as well. I got the doubtless burrito with cold brew and my friend got the pastrami breakfast burrito. Both were out of this world! I can easily say that this place might be up there as one of the better breakfast burritos in LA, maybe even one of the top contenders. Definitely bringing company when I come back next time!

Absolutely loved the passion fruit pie. It was just as good as people described it, although a bit on the sweet side. Personally, I thought it was even better after being chilled. Also loved their carrot cake and black sesame twist. Their breakfast burrito was hearty and nice, although a bit greasy. I couldn't even finish half of it. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning. With the weather being around 90 degrees, it was honestly brutal sitting inside without AC. Parking was plentiful on the streets, which was a nice bonus. read more

Staff was great and very friendly! We ordered the Pork Belly Rice Bowl, Doubtless Burrito, Banoffee Pie, and one of their seasonal cakes with olive oil. The Pork Belly Rice Bowl was just okay. The portion was a little disappointing because there was a lot more salad than I expected, only about two bite-sized pieces of pork belly, and a small portion of brown rice. I also wish the to-go packaging was an actual bowl - it would make it much easier to eat. The Doubtless Burrito was really good and very filling! It could easily be shared between two people. For dessert, the Banoffee Pie was good, and we also enjoyed their seasonal olive oil cake (I can't remember the exact name). Overall, the staff was great and we enjoyed most of what we ordered. I'd definitely get the burrito and desserts again, but I wish the Pork Belly Rice Bowl had a better balance of pork belly, rice, and salad. read more
Doubting Thomas gets an overall 4 stars because of the passion fruit pie. The pie's salty and crunchy crust contrasted extremely well with the sweet and tart flavors of passion fruit custard and whipped cream. The pie is the only reason I would return. Otherwise, the flavors of the food were relatively okay, but the Doubtless Breakfast Burrito was shockingly greasy and not well-constructed; wait was long; and AC was not very strong especially during the heatwave. There's an online ordering option, but they charge an automatic gratuity. read more

Well...Ordered the Corned Beef Hash. I had my order to go and at first, I was like where's the rest of it. However, this is a very upscale version of CBH and it was delicious! Everyone i came in contact with were very friendly. The line stayed out the door but, you weren't in line long. A-1...would def come back. read more
Stopped by Doubting Thomas for brunch and ended up really liking the place. It has that relaxed neighborhood vibe, and it's super close to Dollar Hits (Filipinos know that spot!), so it's easy to swing by before or after. We ordered the Chai ( Muddy? Dirty? forgot) and the Seasonal Cream Top Cold Brew. Both were decent--not amazing, but not bad either. The cold brew cream top was the better one of the two. The desserts were the real highlight. The Passion Fruit Pie was bright, creamy, and had that tart kick that makes passion fruit so good. The graham + macadamia crust was buttery and crunchy without getting soggy, which is rare. The heirloom apple, blackberry & vanilla custard hand pie tasted like a warm, cozy fall dessert. Crispy outside, soft and fruity inside, and not overly sweet. You can tell they really care about their pastries. For food, we tried the Veggie Breakfast Burrito, and honestly it tasted like something you'd get at most breakfast spots..sorry to say..nothing special, but very fresh. The Thomas Burger was the stronger pick. Juicy patty, melty cheese, a soft sesame bun, and the thick-cut fries were super crisp without being greasy. Service was quick, and the cashier had a cheerful, friendly vibe, which always helps start things off right. Overall, solid brunch spot. The pastries are the real reason to come...the passion fruit pie with the graham macadamia crust is absolutely worth stopping for. read more

Lunch meeting set now where to have it? Doubting Thomas came up, I did the menu check for decent vegan items. Success meeting location set! I ended up arriving first and scoped the place out. It can be easy to miss the signage is easy to overlook and the facade outside is brutalist simple and unassuming of the fair within. On driving by I would have never known it existed. But that is not holding this place back because it was packed! While I waited for the rest of my party I scoped the baked good and a better look at the menu. I settled on the vegan adobo burrito and golden milk latte with almond milk. The atmosphere is chill interspersed by some greenery, the servers cashiers and staff are polite and wonderful! Excellent balance of service that's patient non intrusive and respectful! The burrito!!! OMFG was delicious! It had flavor spice and everything was NICE! Perfect pieces of vegan adobo spiced goodness in every bite! Well worth the price! The golden milk latte was delightful and I enjoyed every sip! I look forward to going back when I'm in the area! read more

We had high hopes after seeing the good reviews online, but we were pretty disappointed. We ordered online for pick up, but they had not received the order when we arrived. They were very accommodating and had the kitchen start in our food ASAP, but we ended up waiting 30 minutes for our food when we were wanting to be in and out quickly. Vegan adobo burrito (3/5): not bad! I enjoyed the crispiness of the mushrooms and the flavor. However, I wish the potatoes were cut up into smaller chunks and seasoned better. Very generous with the avocado but maybe a little too generous because every other bite was completely avocado. Veggie breakfast burrito (1/5): we really didn't care of this one. Similar problem with too much avocado and large pieces of under-seasoned potatoes. I believe you can ask for your eggs different ways, but we made no modifications so it ended up being a fried egg which we didn't really love. Just overall not very flavorful and quite disappointing. Chocolate chip cookie (3/5): loved that there were large chocolate chunks within the cookie, but the actual texture of the cookie was more sandy rather than chewy or crispy. Lots of seating available. Street parking close by! read more

I came here for brunch with my friend and really enjoyed the simple ambiance. It is a chill place to work or catch up with friends. I got a breakfast burrito and it came with so much pork! It was pretty tasty but a tad messy and greasy! (Kind of wish the tortilla was toasted longer to hold its shape...) I also got a hojicha latte and thought it was very tasty. I didn't get desserts this time but I've had DT's desserts before in the past and have always found their pies delicious! There is a single bathroom that's available for customers. :) Parking was easy to find around the block near the neighborhood. Or you can do metered street parking out front. read more
Today's goals, drink iced coffee and be merry. Because it's bloody 85 degree in LA. Without further ado let's tango. :D lol Doubting Thomas is a nice local coffee shop nestled below an apartment building in the Historic Filipinotown. They serve handcrafted pastries, pour over specialty coffee, tea, fresh squeezed drinks and breakfast/brunch food. Its contemporary architectural design in a spacious layout was well conceived: interior has abundant of natural light thanks to their large front glass windows. Furthermore, their mix 'n match seats and tables were robustly comfortable. I arrived today to grab lunch and coffee. I was warmly greeted by a young male staff. I adroitly grabbed their quaint menu and ordered an Iced Coffee and Chicken Katsu bowl. The cold drink was smooth and refreshing; food was bloody amazing. It's very flavorful, crisp and delightful. I dig the rice & dipping sauce that came with it. By far it's the BEST chicken katsu I have ever tasted. I had a Butter Croissant to go. It was good especially when warmed up; it's flaky on top and soft on the inside. From the moment I stepped inside, I sensed a good vibe as well as the service staff. Service was spot. Prices were competitive. Tax well it's LA (9.75%) lol. Free street parking is available as well as wifi. Collectively, it's a good coffee shop with amazing products and service. And to top it off I had a missed connection with cute woman in a red tank shirt x jean shorts with bunch of books; should have said hello. :D Overall, I had a joyful dine-in experience and loved the food/coffee drink. Came to this place before going to the airport. I got the croissant sandwich, and it was awesome. It looks like just a coffee shop, but it actually has a full menu + pastries. The croissant was very good and flavorful with bright orange eggs! You can definitely taste and see the quality they use. We also got breakfast burritos, which were good, but pretty ordinary. Why -1 star? We ordered coffee with all the food, but ended up waiting 15 minutes for it. We went up to them to ask why it's not here yet, and they said they forgot. That's why. The restaurant is very appealing to the eye with a very modern look and big glass windows all around. read more

Everything at Doubting Thomas that I've tried is delicious. The veggie burrito, the Thomas breakfast, the Croissandwich, the carrot cake....all delicious. It's the details that count. The crispy roasted potatoes in the the veggie burrito; the best tomatillo salsa and pickled onions in recent memory ; the perfect balance of complementary ingredients like arugula and avocado and buttery croissant in the croissandwich; the creamy and not overly sweet cream cheese frosting on the carrot cake; the intense flavor of the sparkling berry lemonade... these make for a perfect brunch. The service and wait staff are friendly and the indoor space is nice. The only downsides... 1. the seating is limited to mainly small tables for two. A party of three or more will find it challenging to procure a table when it's busy. There are only the small tables outdoors. 2. This place was good! Cute set up, kind and helpful staff, efficient considering there was constantly a line. I got the vegetarian breakfast burrito and a slice of the passion fruit tart/pie. The passion fruit cake pie was incredible. Super unique. I don't typically like "fruity" desserts but this was sooo good. The breakfast burrito was also pretty different from other ones I've tried. It was a nice flavor profile but probably would get something else or be okay with half next time. read more

All good are good! We especially like the pork belly rice bowl. It comes with Chinese marinated tofu sauce with chili, very tasty. Drinks are a bit too sweet, matcha is powdery. Service is fine. It's hard to explain this... but the pastries taste far better than they look. I had the chocolate oat cookie and clementine danish as pictured. They honestly don't look like much and I was kinda doubtful of my choices, but they taste amazing. Truly makes me excited to try other pastries with how good these tasted read more
Popular spot that seems to have waves of lines on and off. We waited about 10 minutes on a Sunday for lunchtime to order and then find a seat to wait for our food. Everything tasted good though the Thomas breakfast platter was just ok (eggs weren't cooked great). The hojicha latte was very good - can definitely taste the hojicha. Doubting Thomas is a must visit. This isn't just a one time visit either. You want to come over and over again and try the amazing menu items they have to offer. You have a selection of breakfast items and lunch items that feel like a hug when you eat it (comfort food). The passion fruit pie might be the best pie in the city. Try it, you'll thank me later. It sells out fast so you want to get there early. The service is always top notch. You have the owner there with her mother which makes going there even better because you know you're supporting a mom and pop shop. The restaurant has lots of seating with street parking readily available. I love the ambiance. You have plenty of inside and outside seating. read more

For a cafe, it was a tad loud and difficult to hear my brunch compadres despite there being no music. I appreciated the effort to change up the breakfast burrito as there were many different styles on the menu. Even so, I got the most classic one and ngl I had doubts. It was like having a pulled poker slider (a sweet pineapple tang) but just the sandwich insides. The tortilla wasn't enough as opposed to a slider's usual bun. I wish the green salsa was regular salsa verde but I liked the daintily pickled onions. Their pastries looked incredible and perhaps next time, I'll do that. read more

I was in the area at lunch time and stopped by on the recommendation from a friend. I had the pork belly bowl and it was absolutely amazing. My friends had a vegan burrito and a regular burrito and everyone was impressed with their food. Service was quick and the space is beautifully designed. read more

I was really looking forward to trying the breakfast quesadilla here, but my experience was incredibly disappointing. When my food arrived, it was completely soaked in grease. It wasn't just crispy or slightly oily, there was literally a puddle of oil sitting on top of the tortilla, making the whole thing incredibly soggy. I had to use a literal mountain of napkins just to attempt to dab off the excess grease so it was even remotely edible, but it was just a completely greasy plate. When I took it up to the front to politely bring it to their attention, I showed the man taking orders a photo from their Google Maps page to show him how different it looked from what I was served. The photo online shows a perfectly golden, crisp quesadilla. Instead of being helpful, he immediately tried to brush me off by claiming the online photo was a "veggie quesadilla" and that the carnitas version is just supposed to be that greasy. I pointed out the caption on the photo literally said "Doubtless breakfast quesadilla" (which has carnitas). Even if it is a meat option, there is no reason a dish should be swimming in that much oil, and the photos shouldn't look like two completely different items. Super disappointing food quality and even worse customer service when faced with a valid complaint. Won't be coming back. read more
I wanted to update my review and include food since I came here for breakfast! My friend and I enjoyed our dishes a lot. The eggs had a good texture I just wish they were more flavorful I had to add salt. The sauce inside the sandwich on top of the greens was really good! The biscuit was good too with the jam. The service was good the employees are nice and there's a decent amount of seating. I also tried the banoffee pie and one of the danishes and they were just okay. The star of the show will forever be the passionfruit pie! read more

This place is very much for the Instagram vibes. I got the doubtless burrito, and unfortunately it really was a let down. The meat itself didn't have much flavor. And the salsa it came with was just ok. It' also is clearly put together to be aesthetically pleasing but not maximal for flavor. The potato is on one side and the egg is on another side - it made it hard to get a bite with all the flavors at once. Also for $20 it was a small burrito. I will say they clearly use high quality ingredients when I looked at the bowl my friend ordered. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing: but I went with what was most popular on Yelp and it was a let down for me. Especially since I love trying LA breakfast burritos. The service was very friendly! The parking can be tough, but we found a spot a block away. Overall I'm sad to say this was a very forgettable experience. read more
