It seems our little hangout has finally been affected by inflation. Company-wide changes are being made in Tartine's kitchen and I can't say I'm happy about them. For years our go-to dish has been the omelette. The intense flavor of dill used to be prominent and oh-so delicious! The herb mix has now been altered, leaving the omelette quite tasteless. We've also noticed that the omelette is now greasy, whereas it wasn't that way prior to the changes (perhaps they're trying to add back flavor by cooking it in twice the butter?). Additionally, the Romaine side salad has lost its zesty, lemony flavor and is now bland. Truly disappointing! God Bless the Morning Bun!!!! I'm also a fan of the plain croissant, and their fresh bread. This location is always very chill (to be fair, I don't usually go during the lunch rush) and parking on side streets is totally doable. This is such a detail, but I'm a temperature freak when it comes to hot drinks. Bums me out to pay for a coffee treat and it's not hot enough! I just got a latte from Tartine this morning and could tell the barista was taking care with making it- and to my delight, it was *perfectly* hot. It's the little things! read more

An update from my 2020 review....things have settled in and Tartine has become a neighborhood spot...although it never seems that crowded. The pastries are uniformly good, but I do wish they'd switch the menu up a bit. My main issue is that they have one person on their staff who is the most unfriendly server in the neighborhood. i brought a friend and ordered with this guy...afterwards, the friend asked me what I'd ever done to this server...it was apparent that he doesn't love being there and doesn't extend himself at all. I thought maybe it was me but after tallking to two other friends who go there, we all realized we had similar experiences. Look, you work there..I have to order coffee or lunch...can we at least exchange some pleasantries instead of the look that you are quietly judging me and everyone there. If you follow me, you know I am on a mission to find the best bakery for a range of pastries in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. I may have found one. On a popular stretch of Sunset Blvd in Silverlake, Tartine is where you can expect the unexpected. That is, you can eat in, take out, and find the largest inventory and range of baked goods that I have seen in the years since I began this floury quest. I was able, best of all, to get both sweet and savory scones (pronounced, "skons"), big ones. They are scarcer than scarecrows' teeth in LA. Even the ones that list "scone" in their name. The websites are poor, the listing confusing, and if they show scones at all, it will be one kind, plain and always sweet. America is addicted to sugar, so that is no surprise. Luckily for me, Tartine is not constrained by pedestrian tastes. This was takeout this time, for an event. Next time we will be going there for a late lunch (check out the great hours). Oh, and it is clean, pretty, and friendly. To say nothing of efficient. I ordered online late one afternoon and my two beautifully prepared boxes were ready and bagged early the following morning. Was really impressed by both dishes I got! The ham and gruyère sandwich was definitely the highlight. The flavour had so much depth and the bread was to die for. The hype for Tartine is real. My only slightly negative takeaways were the higher price point and the ambiance lacking slightly compared to cheaper alternatives in the area. read more

All overlooking their Sunset Blvd in Silverlake, Los Angeles, Cali patio + entrance. Traveling in from a day of fun in the area with a posse of four... I let my friend Shaun take the wheel as a Tartine aficionado. We were very full from brunch... Too much so to enjoy the offerings of soups, salads, sides, soups, bites or breads... But not too much so for desserts and a cold brew or two. I notice they carry wine and had we not been going to a happy hour within walking distance *insert all those heart eye emojis here* this wine loving enthusiast (former wine specialist) would've jumped at the chance to enjoy some pours here. Shaun told me to pick out a vegan friendly pastry as they had several. The girl up front was helpful in helping us narrow down choices. I don't typically go out for baked good or sweet things, though I enjoy them (savory is my default). Beyond glad with my scrumptious vegan raspberry tea cake. A nice b-day week treat and the caffeine fix I didn't know I needed for the road was superb! Q-Tip: Tartine has their own parking lot in back, but you can find street parking wherever you can grab it even if it's a few blocks over... TAKE IT if you know you'll be in the area for a while and not just at this warm inviting trendy cafe. Additionally to a great food and beverage menu, you can also enjoy beer here, teas, juice and a handful of breakfast items - all to your delight. I wanted to hate this expensive, gentrifying "French" café and boulangerie, but I can't. It's too damn good. The pastries are so buttery and flaky and cooked to perfection. Even if they look a little overdone, they aren't. And sure, it's pricey, but honestly not horribly, and is worth the quality. And sure, it's not super authentically French, but the unique twists on classic items is fun and delicious. And they still do have the classics like a croissant and chocolatine. read more

The latte came with very little coffee for me, so I politely asked if I could add an extra shot and of course I was willing to pay for the additional shot. It was my first time at this location. Great interiors, lots of indoor seating, but outdoor setting is limited. Loved and enjoyed my cappuccino as always and the ricotta toast was jut perfect. Good sourdough. Nothing outstanding though. Of course, it's gonna be better in San Francisco at the original location. This location feels more like a grab and go type cafe. I wouldn't necessarily say it's the best brunch spot, but it's still a great addition to the silverlake neighborhood. There's not too many sour dough bakeries in the area. read more

Both items were good, but my favorite was the tender and moist blueberry cornmeal cake. I don't recall, but there may have been an additional flavor such as lavender. Tartine is a must have anytime your near one! I dream and crave the ham and cheese croissant. It's the best of the best! I actually even pack stuff with me to make sure I pack some back! The crispy potatoes were actually crispy and delicious. I probably would have picked to have no green sauce on mine and just eaten them plain, but my guest would have licked the bowl of green sauce. So I say to each their own but if your like me that just likes a good crispy seasoned potatoes ask for the sauce on the side! The breakfast Sammy was also very tasty, the eggs were super fluffy and that's saying a lot from some who isn't a fan of scrambled or omelet eggs! Bought one of your Apple Pie the other day for Thanksgiving. In the past your pies were very good. The apple pie that we picked up, the apples were not even peeled. Many of the apples still have the peels attached. Paying you guys $60+ for this, can't you teach your pie workers to at least peel the apples. The taste was really off.
