You come here for the cakes. I was hoping that the other cafe items were up to par, but the food quality was mixed. The passion fruit meringue pie was perfection as always. I was hoping that the coffee program was up to snuff. I got the apple pear cider latte. It was overly sweet and creamy. You could barely taste the espresso. For the food, we got the seasonal dishes. The winter bean soup was pricey for the size, but it was packed full of flavor. I never had such a tangy and salty umami bomb of a tomato in a soup. The other food was a salad (too plain and simple-dressed leaves) and the pork burrito (supposedly, this is the cafe favorite but was forgettable). There's not a lot I can say that others haven't already raved about. Great pastry case. Diverse enough menu with something for everyone. Not expensive. Not cheap. Very pleasant/modern interior and exterior. I think my favorite part of this cafe/restaurant is how much it celebrates natural light. And plenty of seating. Easy going and cordial staff. The line moves (short the Sunday we went). My pork belly rice bowl was REALLY good, but didn't blow my mind. Which is fine. That atmosphere more than compensates. And points for the pickled radish. Passionfruit pie was fantastic, but I could only eat it once or twice a year if I want to keep my figure. I want this place to stick around for a very long time. I was really impressed by this brunch, especially since it's a relatively small cafe with a very casual atmosphere. But their menu definitely packs a punch! We tried 2 of their burritos because they just sounded delicious. And indeed they were. The pastrami breakfast burrito was the standout for me. Thick cut pastrami pieces were nestled inside a soft burrito shell with eggs, cheese & hashbrowns and it came with a side of Russian dressing. 11/10. The lomo saltado burrito was a close second, layered with skirt steak, rice, veggies, and French fries, and served with a chimichurri-like sauce. Everything just had so much flavor and I savored it all til the last bite. I saw so many other good options on their eclectic menu that I can't wait to try when I come back, like their pork & mushroom rice bowls, breakfast sandwiches, and even their pastries. The passion fruit pie looks amazing, I was eyeing it through the glass at their baked goods station. The cafe itself is a bit small, but they do have both indoor and outdoor seating. It seems like a great place to bring your laptop and get some work done while eating some delicious food. Run, don't walk. Their passion fruit pie is incredible! It's more tart than sweet, which I personally prefer, and the crust is perfectly crisp. Food portions are generally smaller but they use high quality ingredients. I like the pork belly rice bowl. The slow braised pork belly tastes tender, egg yolk is orange, and the greens are fresh and well dressed. Street parking can be hard to find depending on when you come. I really wanted to like this place, but it falls short and I really don't ever plan to go back. The place itself is aesthetically pleasing with a cozy chic vibe. Oddly most of the tables were wobbly and not the correct height to seat level. So the table hits at your knees when you're sitting hence bending over your table more if eating. The only 2 things I semi-enjoyed were the dirty chai latte and the carrot cake slice. And the semi is because the latte was room temp at most but flavors were there, and the carrot cake itself was really good but the frosting was too sweet. Biscuit was dry. Jam was watery. Bacon and Eggs were just okay. Quesadilla was good but nothing great. And then we get to the danish pastry... as someone who bakes and has a family of chefs, I know when dough is underbaked. Cutting into this danish, I knew right away it still raw dough in the middle. When we brought to the girl's attention at the counter, she seriously tried to gaslight us and tell us that "oh that's the way it is because that's how it bakes with the custard." BS. I've been to Doubting Thomas twice now. It's a hipster cafe, as is for most places on East side. First time I went, we ordered to go. I got the doubtless breakfast burrito which was quite hearty/filling, and I think the cashier had said it was their most popular one. After coming again for anothwe burrito, I can agree this is the winner. This time, I got the Rob's pork belly lunch burrito, which while it was good, it simply reminded me of asian pork belly rice bowl wrapped in a tortilla and it wasn't well stuffed. I also got a the Espresso Old Fashioned, which was certainly delicious but quite a small drink as it was filled with mostly ice. It felt like there was almost more sparkling water/citrus than caffeine, so I was missing the caffeine kick that I needed . I would also say this meal ran me $30 which is steep as the drink itself was almost $10 and not worth it, and I needed to end up ordering another Americano as I didn't get the caffeine kick I needed. All in all, it's a cool spot, but I'd say more on the pricier side for brunch as a cafe given the location, but worth checking it out read more

I really liked this coffee shop in historic Filipinotown. The main issue is parking is hard to find. The streets are busy, so jay-walking takes patience. I wish I got a pastry, but this just means I need to make another visit. I got the doubtless breakfast burrito $16, and it was so so good. I got it take away, so they packed the salsa in a separate little container. I thoroughly enjoyed this burrito. The coffee I got was the fig leaf cream cold brew. I'm obsessed with any and all pastries and cakes there, as well as the veggie burrito and quesadilla. Ambiance wise, it can get busy during peak hours. Deceptive menu prices / practices. We stoped by the restaurant and a few days ago. It's an order at the counter kind of place. There is a sign that clearly states that any card transaction incurs a 4% fee. Fair enough, but there is another sign that states that the restaurant is cashless. This issue makes the fee mandatory and can't be avoided. This is deceptive as it forces everyone to pay the card fee. This is deceptive and potentially illegal, but let the city figure this one out. The lomo saltado was a typical rice + protein burrito. $20 is a little steep for this one (I'd assume due to the skirt steak? in it). Banoffee cake slice was definitely good, but it did not amaze me. The bananas just felt as if it was just cold banana and then a coffee cake / cream. I didn't think it meshed too well, but still definitely good. The highlight of this place looks to be their desserts. All their cakes look amazing, but their passionfruit cheesecake is definitely the highlight. I'm not typically a fruit, cake type of person, but I was in awe on how good it is. The crust is perfection, and the richness of the cheesecake just paired perfectly with the passionfruit whipped cream. Words wouldn't do this justice; if you see it, it's definite must try!
